Ivan Mulin: now I love snowboarding no less than hockey

Ivan Mulin Actor Ivan Mulin is known for his role in the famous TV series “Molodezhka”. In life, Ivan is the same as his movie hero - open, cheerful and a little eccentric. Mulin spoke about his love for winter sports, active recreation, as well as his future creative plans in an exclusive interview with Argumenty Nedeli.

— Ivan, you recently returned from a trip to the ski resort in Sochi - have you ever been there before? What impressions did you have from the trip?

— Yes, I already went there a couple of years ago, but the trip was short. This time the vacation was eventful: I went snowboarding, did crossfit, and went paragliding... And I also managed to miss the transfer to the airport. Well, my friends helped out - they picked me up in a car, so I eventually caught the plane. True, the car was a convertible, my suitcase did not fit in it, so I had to hold it on my lap the whole way. Because of this, they couldn’t let go of the convertible’s roof, so they drove with the top open - when it’s cold outside, it’s even more fun! But it was fun and there is something to remember! (Laughs).

— Do you generally like winter sports?

— To be honest, before this trip, I loved hockey from winter sports - during the filming of “Molodezhka” we were trained so much that now in my free time I enjoy playing with the guys. But when I got on a snowboard, I, as they say, fell in love with it. At first I wasn’t sure that I could skate, but on Rosa I realized that I felt confident enough on it - I maneuver, control the speed, drive where I need to go... Apparently, my skating skills affected - I’ve been skating on it for many years. So now I want to continue training. You get pleasure from sports when you do it, when you spend time on it. My friend, Denis Bonus - one of the most famous pro-riders in Russia - has his own school, so I plan to come to him in the near future to take a couple of lessons. I don’t have my own board, but I want to buy one, even if not a new one, but a used one.

— In general, how do you like to relax? Actively or with a book on the beach?

I believe that vacation should be different! You can’t rush around the sights for a whole week - you need to lie on the beach with a book so that your feet get sunburned. Because without burnt legs, what kind of vacation is this? (Laughs) But seriously speaking, I don’t like just lying on the beach and sunbathing. In principle, I don’t like sunbathing.

— Can you go on vacation alone or do you definitely need a big noisy company for a good rest?

— Somehow it turns out in my life that I never went on vacation alone - it was always trips either with my girlfriend or with friends. Either I was carrying someone or me! (Smiles) I remember there was a period in my life when I didn’t go on vacation anywhere for six years. Somehow, within myself, I came to terms with this circumstance and didn’t even think about changing my geolocation. It’s good that my friends finally pulled me out of the house!

— Can you currently call yourself an avid traveler? Or do you travel more for work - filming, touring?

— I would like to call myself an avid traveler, but so far I have only been to five countries: Thailand, the Czech Republic, Spain, Latvia and Indonesia. I planned to go to Spain again this spring, to Barcelona. I dreamed about it since childhood, and when I arrived there last year, it turned out that my ideas and fantasies about it completely coincided with reality! To say that I liked it there is to say nothing! It seemed to me that my heart simply merged with this city, I felt its rhythm and pulse... Since I have a valid Schengen visa, I wanted to go to Barcelona again this year, but because of the coronavirus, naturally, I won’t fly anywhere. Well, of course, I travel around Russia a lot for work.

— Do you quickly get into a working rhythm after returning from vacation? Especially if it's a long trip?

— Previously, when I was young, this happened almost instantly for me, but with age I felt that the acclimatization process was still necessary. So, for example, after returning from Bali, it took me three days to just lie in bed, get used to Moscow time, the weather, get into a working mood...

— When choosing a country for a holiday, what do you pay attention to first?

— Since I, by and large, have never been anywhere, any country is suitable for me purely from a research point of view. Countries that I will never go to do not exist for me. I am not afraid of poverty or any everyday inconveniences - the more extreme, the better! So that in old age you will have something to remember!

— When you returned to Moscow, what did you do? What new works can fans of actor Ivan Mulin expect?

— I finished filming the projects “Be My Kirill” and “Dyatlov Pass” - the dubbing process is now underway. I play with the guys from Molodezhka in the play “Biloxi Blues”. As a DJ, I am sometimes invited to play my favorite music in clubs or restaurants. There are some other plans regarding music, but I won’t reveal all the secrets just yet - you’ll soon find out for yourself! (Smiles)
