Denis Shvedov: “I can’t imagine life without my children”

Denis Shvedov's childhood

Denis grew up in an ordinary Moscow family, far from the theater stage.
After the birth of her younger sister, the father left the family, and all financial burdens fell on the mother’s shoulders. While his mother worked late at two jobs, Denis spent time with friends in Moscow courtyards. Neither in childhood nor in his youth did he even think about an acting career. His main interest was different - playing rugby. Thanks to his good physical shape and tall height, success in this sport was guaranteed to him. After graduating from school, Denis submitted documents to the Institute of Tourism. Perhaps this was a tribute to the desire to travel, or perhaps studying at this institute was no worse or better than studying at any other educational institution. One thing can be said for sure: student Shvedov was not interested. That is why he listened with such interest and - a little - with envy to the exciting stories of his childhood friend Sasha, who entered the theater. Interesting lectures, renowned teachers, non-standard assignments - Denis did not have all this at the university.

First, Denis Shvedov studied at the Institute of Tourism

A friend, Alexander Serov-Ostankinsky, the son of the actor of the Russian Academic Youth Theater Sergei Serov, advised him to try his hand at an audition for the Shchepkinsky School. Waiting in queues for many kilometers, Denis arrived at the school building a few hours before the start of the selection. Excitement did not prevent him from passing the first audition with dignity, which became final for him. Unexpectedly for Shvedov himself, he was immediately offered to submit documents for admission and begin studying acting under the guidance of Nikolai Afonin. Denis Shvedov on a skateboard Unlike many of his fellow students, Denis had to make up for childhood years without reading and theater. Persistent preparation, many books read in a short time and theater productions watched yielded results - even before graduation, Denis was offered a small role in the film “The Weaknesses of a Strong Woman” (2006).

“The Weaknesses of a Strong Woman”: Denis Shvedov’s first role

Immediately after graduation, in 2006, the director of the Russian Academic Youth Theater, People's Artist of Russia Alexey Borodin offered Denis a place in the theater troupe. The actor proved himself on stage in classic productions: “The Cherry Orchard”, “The Idiot”, “Martin Eden”, “Erast Fandorin” and “Don Quixote”.

Acting career of Denis Shvedov

For several years, Denis gained experience by playing small, episodic roles, and only in 2008 he received his first leading role in the romantic comedy “A Good Friend for Everyone.” The film turned out to be warm, sincere, with a real New Year's mood, which was undoubtedly Shvedov's merit.

The following year, Denis met screenwriter and director Yuri Bykov and starred in his debut film “Live” as Andrei, a young man running away from death in the face of three pursuers. As the plot progresses, his partner in misfortune becomes an elderly hunter - the complete opposite of Andrei. The acute psychological drama received the Grand Prix of the Russian film festival in Sweden “Kino Rurik”, and Denis Shvedov and Vladislav Toldykov received prizes for best actor.

After the film “To Live” Denis Shvedov truly declared himself

The joint work turned out to be successful, and therefore Bykov invited Denis to play the main role in the multi-part film “Collectors”. An excellent team of actors such as Denis Shvedov, Daniil Strakhov, Alexey Komashko and Yuri Tarasov managed to create a high-quality criminal detective story.

In 2011, Denis played a small but memorable role as the excellent security guard Boris in the continuation of the comedy “What Else Men Talk About” by the Quartet I Theater (Rostislav Khait, Kamil Larin, Alexander Demidov and Leonid Barats).

Movies

The creative biography of Denis Shvedov began with roles in performances of his native theater. He surprisingly easily transformed into a variety of characters, playing either Don Quixote, Martin Eden, or Nyunin in the play “Chekhov-GALA”. Most of all, theatergoers remember his work in the production of “The Red and the Black,” where he played Count Croisnoy, and the comedy play “A Purely English Ghost” (played Mr. Hiram B. Otis).

But Denis Shvedov was destined to become recognizable and popular precisely in cinema. The actor’s debut film work was a small role in the film “The Weaknesses of a Strong Woman.” After this episode, Shvedov starred in a number of films, but still in minor roles.

2008 was a happy year for Denis in terms of film work. The actor was invited to play the main role in the film “A Good Friend for Everyone.” But this tape did not become widely known.

Recognition came to Denis Shvedov in 2011 after appearing in the thriller “To Live” directed by Yuri Bykov. This work brought the young artist a fairly large award: he became a laureate of the international festival “KinoRurik” in Sweden. The artist played the main role wonderfully and was soon invited by Bykov to another of his films called “Major”. For this work, the artist received many awards. In Vladivostok, he received a prize at the Pacific Meridian International Film Festival. The film was also highly rated at Kinotavr and Cannes. And in Shanghai the film received three prizes at once.

Once again, actor Shvedov and director Bykov met on the set where the 8-episode crime film “Collectors” was filmed. Denis played the collector Sergei Khromov.

A new wave of popularity lifted Denis Shvedov up after the release of Anna Melikyan’s arthouse melodrama “Star”. The series “Stanitsa” and “Major”, in which the actor also appeared, added to his popularity, although the artist prefers not to act in melodramas and agrees to do so extremely rarely. The success of the detective-crime film “Major” was such that the creators decided to extend it for a second season. The second part was released in November 2020.

At the beginning of 2020, the series “Method” with the participation of Shvedov was broadcast on Channel One. But the artist attracted the greatest attention to his person after appearing in the film “The Elusive” that same year. In the plot of the film, Denis plays the villain - oligarch Sergei Polyansky, who, having hit a girl with his car, abandons her and runs away from the scene of the crime.

Fans of Denis Shvedov's talent are waiting for new interesting works. The actor is starring in the film “Eternal Cold”, where he plays along with Ivan Shakhnazarov, Ravshana Kurkova and Lyubov Tolkalina. This is a fantastic project about a team of hockey players who are forced to fight evil ancient spirits who were accidentally awakened.

Significant career milestones

In 2013, the Russian “Jason Statham” (and this is how Denis was dubbed by fans) played the difficult role of a police major in Yuri Bykov’s film “Major”, for which he received the award for the leading male role at the XI International Festival “Pacific Meridians”. Some critics believe that the prototype of the main character was the tragically famous Major Evsyukov, who shot at visitors to the Ostrov supermarket in April 2009.

In the same year, Denis played the role of Gennady Kireev in the series based on the sensational story of the mass murder in the village of Kushchevskaya (series “Stanitsa”, 2013). Unfortunately, even the famous acting team (Nina Usatova, Maria Shukshina, Evgeny Sidikhin and others) could not bring success to the series - the audience received it coldly.

Denis's next work received more positive audience responses. The series “Major” (2014) was loved by people for its original, well-developed plot and bright, three-dimensional characters. The story of the drama is built around the tragedy of Igor, the son of a high-ranking man, a typical playmaker played by Pavel Priluchny. After another offense that almost became fatal for the guy, his father deprives his son of his livelihood and sends him to work in the police department, where the young man must learn to survive. Denis Shvedov played a character named Danila Korolev. Like all the characters in the series, he appears to the audience from two opposite sides. On the one hand, as an excellent employee, an honest person and a devoted friend. On the other hand, as a jealous, vindictive man, unable to separate his personal life from his work relationship. There has been an intense confrontation between Denis and Igor since the first episodes.

In 2015, he was invited to the filming of the military detective story “Snow and Ashes” for the role of Colonel Yampolsky.

Also notable was the role of traffic police captain Nikita, the lover of the heroine Elena Lyadova. The series itself received wide publicity thanks to its non-trivial plot. The director moved away from the “tradition” in cinema, according to which it is usually men who cheat, and showed the other side of the coin - a woman with three lovers, revealing the fates of those who cheat and those who are cheated on.

In 2020, Denis Shvedov was busy filming several promising projects. Firstly, of course, this is the second season of “Major”, which Russian viewers were so eagerly awaiting.

Secondly, the full-length post-apocalyptic blockbuster “Dancing to Death,” where the heroes of Lukerya Ilyashenko and Ivan Zhvakin were supposed to compete in a deadly dance duel.

In addition, in 2020, he was busy filming a series about the relationship between a patient of a rehabilitation clinic and a psychologist “The Exes”, the serial comedy “Perverts”, the criminal saga “Raid” about the adventures of judicial police officers, as well as the detective series “What We Needed to Prove” , where Denis Shvedov got the main role. Denis Shvedov reads fairy tales In the press, “What needed to be proven” was dubbed a worthy response to the British “Sherlock”, and in the heroes of Shvedov (police captain Shiryaev) and Timofey Tribuntsev (mathematics professor Shtoppel) allusions to Holmes and Watson were visible.

Personal life

The personal life of Denis Shvedov at one time fit into a laconic form: “In search.” Previously, the artist’s relationships with women were difficult. As he himself said:

Denis Shvedov spends most of his time in the theater and on the set. On rare occasions, he likes to travel with friends to Bali, where he goes surfing. Then Shvedov admitted that the desire to have a family has increased greatly. He had a girlfriend, RAMT actress Alexandra Rozovskaya, daughter of the famous screenwriter and director Mark Rozovsky. It’s still difficult for an actor to decide to get married, because the habit of traveling and living without looking at anyone keeps him from taking such a responsible step.

And indeed, changes have occurred. Shvedov’s common-law wife gave birth to his daughter Miroslava in July 2020. Perhaps Denis will soon decide to take the next step and register a relationship. Although it is possible that the couple does not think that the stamp in the passport will change anything, because they are already happy together.

In April 2020, there was another addition to the family - Alexandra gave Denis a son. The actor had long dreamed of an heir, and after the birth of their daughter, the couple did not delay the birth of their second child.

Shvedov is partial to tattoos. He has several tattoos on his body, including on his arms and chest. Denis often displays photos of these images on his personal page on Instagram.

He shows interest in the medical history of his patient, the spoiled daughter of wealthy parents, Yana Morozova (Lyubov Aksenova), who is hooked on hard drugs. Gradually, the doctor becomes closer to the patient, and a new feeling arises between them.
