Dmitry Lysenkov: “My civic position is in my roles”

Already in his first year at the Academy, Dmitry began acting on the stage of the Lensovet Theater, and after receiving a diploma in 2004, he was enrolled in the troupe of this theater.

For the first time, theater audiences saw the actor in the production “The Eldest Son” based on Vampilov’s work of the same name, where he brilliantly played Sarafanov. This was followed by the play “Cabaret,” staged by director and Dmitry’s university mentor Vladislav Pazi. Both roles brought the talented actor his first awards. For his portrayal of Sarafanov, Lysenkov received the Vologda Governor’s Award, where “The Eldest Son” was shown at the “Voices of History” festival. And for his work in “Cabaret” Dmitry was awarded an honorary prize by the festival jury.

For his role in the production of “Conspiracy of Feelings” based on the work of Yuri Olesha, he became a laureate of the independent acting award named after Vladislav Strzhelchik. Successful and memorable were his roles in the plays "Woyzeck", "Bullfinches" and "Measure for Measure", staged on the stage of the Lensovet Theater. For these works, Dmitry Lysenkov was nominated three times for the Golden Soffit. This is the highest theater award in St. Petersburg.

In 2007, the artist agreed to the offer to go to work at the Alexandrinsky Theater. His debut on the famous stage was the role of Yakov Golyadkin in the production of “The Double” by Valery Fokin. Next was the play “Marriage” based on Nikolai Gogol, where Dmitry appeared in the image of Kochkarev. This role brought him another Golden Soffit.

In 2008 - a new production: “Man=Man”. The play was staged by Yuri Butusov based on the novel by Bertolt Brecht. Loader Gali Gay, performed by Dmitry Lysenkov, received many positive reviews from theater critics. His performance was called vital, brilliant and meaningful.

In 2009, Lysenkov’s repertoire included the roles of Poch and Andrei Fedorovich in the production of “Ksenia. Love Story", Ilya Ilyich Telegin in "Uncle Vanya".

In addition, Dmitry played Hamlet and Khlestakov. For these roles he was nominated for the Breakthrough theater award as the best young actor.

The following year, 2010, Lysenkov received the Sberbank of Russia Prize, which is awarded every year based on the results of the last theater season.

Another Breakthrough Award was received by Dmitry Lysenkov for his role as Petruchio in the production of The Taming of the Shrew based on Shakespeare.

In 2012, he resumed his collaboration with the Lensoveta Theater: as a guest artist, he played the role of Neschastlivtsev in the play by the young Moscow director Kirill Vytoptov based on the play by A.N. Ostrovsky "Forest".

In 2013, the artist appeared in a theatrical project called “Nevsky Prospekt. Urban Etudes", which premiered at the 7th International Theater Festival "Alexandrinsky", and then at the International Festival "Baltic House".

In 2014, he played the role of Evgeny Arbenin in Valery Fokin’s play “Masquerade. Memories of the Future" based on Mikhail Lermontov's drama "Masquerade" and Vsevolod Meyerhold's 1917 play. Critics and spectators praised Lysenkov's performance.

In 2016-2017, Dmitry Lysenkov was introduced into the plays: “Crime and Punishment” (Svidrigailov), “Optimistic Tragedy. Farewell Ball" (Siply), "Bathhouse" (Director).

“Theater is when you manage to create something invisible, barely perceptible, that cannot be explained in words; this magic is unattainable in cinema, it is only possible between an actor on stage and a spectator in the hall, when something suddenly happens between them...”, Dmitry said in an interview.

Personal life of Dmitry Lysenkov

The actor prefers not to talk about his relationship. What is known is that the young man is married to a colleague, theater actress Maria Zimina. Now she has paused her career and devoted herself to her husband.

Dmitry Lysenkov’s family has two children growing up. He raises his daughters in strictness and does not want them to follow in their father's footsteps. In one interview, the artist revealed the secret of a happy relationship.

You just need to love each other - I don’t know any other recipe,” the man said.

Despite his popularity and constant filming in the capital, the actor is in no hurry to move from St. Petersburg to Moscow. In one interview he admitted:

I am not from St. Petersburg, but from Leningrad. In my understanding, this is a person with a high level of culture.

In her free time, the star does not miss a moment to spend time on social networks. On his Instagram page, Dmitry Lysenkov shares only work photos. The actor’s reticence does not attract fans - only seven thousand subscribers follow his blog. But this does not mean that the celebrity ignores his fans. Despite being extremely busy in the theater, Dmitry quite often appears on movie screens. The actor made his debut in the crime series “Deadly Force” in 2000. Then there were roles in the popular films “The Princess and the Pauper”, “Streets of Broken Lanterns”, “Rush Hour”.

The artist was remembered by television viewers after the release of the mini-series “The White Guard,” filmed in 2012. Here Lysenkov played together with the stars of Russian cinema Sergei Garmash, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Alexei Serebryakov, Ksenia Rappoport and many others.

In 2013, Fyodor Bondarchuk’s war drama “Stalingrad” was released, where Dmitry played the role of sniper Chvanov.

Then there were works in famous projects: “Sherlock Holmes”, “Investigator Tikhonov”, “The Duelist”.

On November 7, the Rossiya TV channel will launch a new eight-episode film by the famous film director Vladimir Khotinenko, “Demon of the Revolution,” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution.

The artist pleased his fans with another high-profile premiere at the end of October 2020. Channel One has started showing the 3rd season of the series “Major”. Dmitry Lysenkov again transformed into the hero Ilya Semenov. The leading roles were played by Pavel Priluchny, Karina Razumovskaya and Dmitry Shevchenko, already familiar from previous seasons.

Lysenkov is currently starring in the historical drama about the Decembrists “Union of Salvation” and the thriller “The Ninth”.

Childhood and youth

Future actor Dmitry Lysenkov was born in St. Petersburg in July 1982. There were no theater or film artists in his family, but already at school Dima decided for himself that his adult life would be connected with the acting profession. He was prompted to this idea, as he himself said in an interview, by the vanity caused by the applause at the school plays in which he participated. Before that, he was thinking about entering the shipbuilding institute.

For some time, Lysenkov even attended preparatory courses and had every chance of becoming a shipbuilder, gaining the score required for admission. But life decreed otherwise.

After graduating from secondary school in 1999, 17-year-old Dmitry Lysenkov becomes a student at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theater Arts, where he takes the course of Vladislav Pazi.

First successes

After graduating from school, the future actor Dmitry Lysenkov almost entered the Marine Technical University. However, at the last moment he changed his mind and became a student at the St. Petersburg Academy of Theater Arts (SPGATI). The course the young man was enrolled in was taught by the talented teacher Vladislav Pazi. Dima is still grateful to this man for helping him believe in himself.

While still a student, actor Dmitry Lysenkov began acting at the Lensovet Theater. He continued to collaborate with this theater after graduating from SPGATI. The young man performed his first roles in the productions “The Thief”, “Wait and See”, “The Eldest Son”, “Cabaret”, “Conspiracy of Feelings”, “Bullfinches”, “Woyzeck”, “Measure for Measure”.
