At the beginning of the 2000s, many young shocking performers appeared on the Russian stage, whom the public received with great love. Among them was the group “Brothers Grim,” whose hit “Eyelashes” was sung, it seems, by the whole country. Even now, fifteen years later, you can easily recognize the familiar motif. But what happened to the brothers and why are we not hearing new hits? We will tell you about this.
biography, childhood
On June 6, 1981, the Burdaev twin brothers were born in Samara. Kostya is 15 minutes younger than Bori. Their parents are ordinary people with no musical education.
Despite their external similarities, the brothers had different characters. Borya grew up a real hooligan and restless. Kostya was a modest and quiet child. The twin brothers often fought over toys and clothes. The mother made a lot of efforts to calm and reconcile them.
The only thing that united Kostya and Borya was a love of music. They liked to listen to tracks of various genres - from disco to hard rock. The brothers often organized home concerts, posing as famous performers.
At the age of 8, Kostik and Borya began attending music school, where they learned to play the piano and guitar.
History[ | ]
1998—2004
The history of the group began in 1998, when twin brothers Boris and Konstantin Burdaev created the group “Brothers Grim” in Samara (the group’s name has one letter “m”, unlike the Brothers Grimm). The first lineup of the group included Boris Burdaev (vocals, guitar), Konstantin Burdaev (bass guitar, backing vocals), Maxim Malitsky (guitar) and Anton Sharonin (drums). In 1999, Katya Pletnyova (guitar, backing vocals) also played in the group - the first wife of Boris Burdaev, and also, subsequently, a member of the third line-up of the group. For a long time the group was in Samara and performed in local clubs and concert venues. The first concert took place at the Samara Medical-Technical Lyceum.
2005—2008
In 2004, the group met producer Leonid Burlakov and signed a cooperation contract with him. In the same year, the group moved to Moscow and formed a new line-up. Anton Sharonin is replaced by drummer Denis Popov and keyboard player Andrei Timonin.
In 2005, the Brothers Grim performed at the MAXIDROM festival, after which the group was talked about in the media. In 2005, the group recorded their debut album, Brothers Grim. The song “Eyelashes” appeared on radio stations in June 2005 and took high positions in many charts[2]. Another famous hit was the song “Kusturica”.
In the fall of 2005, the group starred in a commercial for Chupa Chups Yoghurt lollipops.[3]
At the end of 2005, the Brothers Grim established the E-volution grant for young musicians. Since the beginning of October, anyone could post their song on the group’s website, and visitors voted for their favorites. In just eight months, 616 teams took part in the competition. In mid-April, the results were summed up, and the winning team, “Brothers Grim,” was awarded a grant of $5,000[4].
In 2006, the group recorded their second album “Illusion” in Auckland (New Zealand) with the singles “Breath”, “Bee” and “Amsterdam”. The album was appreciated by music critics[5]. In the same year, the group starred in the TV series “Don’t Be Born Beautiful,” where the artists played themselves.
In 2007, the Brothers Grim parted ways with their producer and became an independent group. In the fall they will release their third album, “Martians.” The singles “Fly”, “Sea Off Season”, “In the Morning” are included in the rotation of radio stations. The record was recorded in Kyiv with sound producer Vitaly Telezin.
In the summer and autumn of 2008, the group underwent changes in its lineup: guitarist Maxim Malitsky and keyboardist Andrei Timonin left the group. Dmitry Kryuchkov becomes the new guitarist of the group.
2009—2010
On March 6, 2009, due to disagreements between the brothers, the group “Brothers Grim” announces its dissolution[6]. It should be noted that the message about the breakup was published on the group’s website solely on the initiative of Konstantin. Boris himself learned this news only from the Internet[7]. After the breakup of the group, Konstantin continued to work solo. On March 8, 2 days after Boris left, Kostya Grim plays his first solo acoustic concert on the stage of one of the Moscow clubs.
From August 2009 to March 2010, Konstantin Burdaev with a new line-up of musicians performed under the name “Grim” and released new singles “Laos” and “Planes”[8].
Since 2014
In the fall of 2014, the vocalist and founder of the group, Boris Burdaev, announced his intention to again use the name “Brothers Grim” and created the project “Boris Grim and the Brothers Grim”, whose repertoire includes both old, “classic” songs of the group, and new compositions[9] .
The beginning of creative activity
In 1998, our hero and his twin brother created the group “Magelan”. After some time, the project received a different name - “Brothers Grim”. The guys gave their first concert at the Samara Medical-Technical Lyceum. The local audience received their performance very well.
In 2001, the Burdaev brothers went to Moscow. They presented their Bossanova Band project to the capital's listeners. Katya Pletneva, who later became Boris’s wife, performed with them.
In the spring of 2005, the Brothers Grim group found its niche in Russian show business. And it all started with a secret. For a month, the largest radio stations played the single “Second Half”. The name of the group was not specifically mentioned. This piqued people's interest even more.
And so in the spring of 2005, the red-haired twin brothers were presented at the Theater. Then they performed at the MAXIDROM festival.
The first video clip of the Brothers Grim group was filmed for the song “Eyelashes”. The debut album went on sale in June 2005. Fans sold out the entire edition in 2-3 weeks. The brothers did not expect such success.
In 2006, the second album, “Illusion,” was presented to listeners. The author of the lyrics was Kostya Grim. The songs "Amsterdam", "Bee" and "Breath" did not make much of an impression on the audience. The album turned out to be a failure. But the brothers were not going to give up. They changed the sound producer.
The third disc (“Martians”) is the fruit of their collaboration with Vitaly Telezin. The following tracks were included in the rotation of Russian radio stations: “In the Morning”, “Sea Season” and “Fly”.
Group success story
The musical group “Brothers Grim” was formed back in 1998 in Samara. For three years, Boris and Konstantin Burdaev tried to conquer local listeners, and in 2001 they went to Moscow. According to the performers themselves, the group was their graduation project, which they defended at the Samara State Pedagogical University.
In the capital, the brothers met Leonid Burlakov, who by that time had already established himself as an experienced producer (under his leadership, Zemfira and Mumiy Troll developed their projects). He organized a performance for the guys at one of the largest Russian music festivals, Maxidrom, after which the Brothers Grim drew the attention of radio stations.
On the wave of increasing popularity, the group gave a name to the musical style in which they performed their songs - “Grimrock”. According to the artists, they were tired of the depression and monotony that reigned on the Russian stage. Therefore, the slogan of the new direction was the phrase “Stop being sad!”
The Brothers Grim group was one of the first in Russia to use both the Internet and various interactions with fans in its promotion. For example, to get to the band’s first concert in Moscow, fans had to work hard. Tickets were not widely sold; to obtain them you had to go through a special musical quest. Surprisingly, the audience received such a game with delight - the Stas Namin Theater, where the concert took place, was packed to capacity.
The peak of the group's fame came in 2005, when the Brothers Grim released an album of the same name. “The Second Half” entered the top five songs according to the “Hit Parade of Two Capitals” on radio “Maximum” and confidently stayed there for several weeks. And then “Eyelashes” was released as a single, which a week later topped all the main charts in the country. The song became the calling card of the performers; concerts of artists throughout Russia began with it.
In 2006, the Brothers Grim recorded a new album, called Illusion. Despite the fact that they failed to achieve their former popularity, several compositions still managed to become hits: “Breath”, “Bee”, “Amsterdam”.
In 2007, the group parted ways with producer Leonid Burlakov and set off on an independent voyage. The result was the album “Martians,” which included songs such as “Fly,” “In the Morning,” and “Sea Off Season.” The group recorded this record in Kyiv.
Career continuation
In March 2009, the Brothers Grim group ceased to exist. Boris learned this news from the Internet. He did not sort things out with his brother, but simply packed his things and left for Samara.
From August 2009 to March 2010 Konstantin performed with a new lineup. He shortened the name of the group - it just turned out to be “Grim”. By this time, a lot of musical material had accumulated. However, the project was not as successful as Kostya Grim had hoped. The “Laos” video was viewed by thousands of people. However, this cannot be called a masterpiece.
In March 2010, Konstantin Burdaev returned the previous name of the group. The updated lineup recorded the 4th album, “Wings of Titan.” That's not all. In 2020, the team released two records. They are called "Zombies" and "Most Favorite Music".
As for Boris Burdaev, he returned to the stage in 2011. At various times he performed in such groups as Octopus Maiden, Ufology and Lirrika.

Personal life
In the late 1990s, Konstantin met a charming girl, Olesya Khudyakova. She came to Samara to build a career as a radio host. She succeeded. The beauty took the pseudonym Lesya Krieg. In a short time she managed to become a famous radio host.
For four years, Lesya and Konstantin were good friends. He had a beloved girl, and she had a young man. And when both couples broke up, our hero looked at Olesya differently. He surrounded her with care and attention. As a result, the guy and the girl started dating, and after a couple of months they were already living under the same roof.
In 2004, the lovers formalized their relationship. Kostya Grim and his wife made grandiose plans for their future together. But our hero and his twin brother had to urgently leave for Moscow. They began developing their musical careers. Why didn’t he take his beloved Kostya Grim with him? Zhenane immediately decided to quit her successful radio career. After all, she had been achieving this for so long. And yet the girl found the strength to move to Moscow.
The lead singer of the Brothers Grim band got married!
On August 15, at Wedding Palace No. 3 in Tekstilshchiki, 37-year-old musician, lead singer of the Brothers Grim group Konstantin Burdaev officially got married. The artist’s chosen one was Tatyana, a fan of his group “Brothers Grim”, whom he first met 13 years ago. By the way, the newlyweds chose a beautiful day and time for the wedding: the ceremony took place on August 15 at exactly 15.15.
“Tanya has a creative profession,” Kostya told 7days.ru on the eve of the wedding. — My wife is a choreographer; she danced in the famous children’s ensemble “Moskvich” from the age of four. She has two higher educations, and now her wife works as a teacher of additional education at school: she teaches modern and classical choreography, rhythmics and Pilates.
And we have known each other for a long time. Tanya is a long-time admirer of the work of the Brothers Grim group. The first time we met was back in 2005, when she was still a little girl. Tanya says that she met me on the street then, which, of course, I don’t remember. But she claims that then I even looked at her. We really met on March 8, 2011, when Tanechka came to one of our Moscow concerts. After the performance, she came to the dressing room to take a photo with me. I remembered it then. I thought: “What a sweet, intelligent girl...”
That photograph - our first photo together - has been preserved, and Tanya has hardly missed our performances in Moscow since then. And one day she dared to send me her poem dedicated to me on Twitter. Then Tanya will say that I inspired her creativity. Then I thanked and praised the girl, because it’s very rare when a fan sends something like this, and I liked the poems. But we didn’t start a romance. Tanya had platonic feelings for me. She managed to carry them through the years until they grew into love - real, bright, mutual...
Tanya is 26 years old and she is getting married for the first time. As she herself jokes: “I’m marrying the man of my dreams, whom I’ve been waiting for 7 years...” This is not my first marriage. I divorced my previous (second - editor's note) wife Tamara in 2020. The reason is simple and banal - “they didn’t get along.” She and I are very different and it was difficult for us to be with each other. I am even grateful to her for the fact that it was she who found the strength to cut the “Gordian knot” of our relationship with her. And at that moment Tanya seemed to feel my mental pain. She began to appear frequently with comments and questions in my online interviews and public pages of the Brothers Grim group. As if to remind you of yourself...
When I was left alone, when I realized that it was all over with Tamara, I wrote to Tanya on social networks. I decided to brighten up my loneliness by communicating with a smart girl so as not to go crazy. Tanya, by the way, also almost went crazy - only for a different reason. At first she didn’t even believe that I wrote to her. We started talking on the phone, and a couple of days later we met. From then on, things went very quickly: after a couple of weeks, she already moved in with me and we began to live together. And a month and a half later we submitted an application to the registry office!
I have never met such an affectionate and gentle, sweet and intelligent girl. I immediately fell head over heels in love. I didn’t feel so easy and comfortable with anyone, so I didn’t think long about whether to go to the registry office... Tanya and I love the same music (except, of course, “The Brothers Grim”), we have similar tastes in food , in books, in films. And she and I are both very soft, non-conflict people. In this sense, we found each other: during the entire time we lived together, we did not have even a shadow of misunderstanding.
We are celebrating the wedding in a small circle - we invited only our parents, Tanya’s closest girlfriends and my colleagues in the Brothers Grim group. We organized everything ourselves. We will not have a presenter: I will take on this role. There will be no “first dance of the newlyweds.” In our opinion, this is all unnecessary. But they decided not to give up some traditions. A limousine (a vintage Rolls Royce without any decorations) will take us from the registry office; the bride bought a white dress, I bought a tailcoat. Tanya took my last name - she will become Burdaeva. The wife is convinced that everyone in the family should have the same last name. After registering the marriage at the registry office, we will go to the Moscow region, to a very beautiful palace on the banks of the Moscow River, to relax in nature - fun and without unnecessary ceremony ... "
New love
Konstantin had a hard time with the death of his first wife. He often looked at photographs in which Lesya was healthy and beautiful. The musician did not want to believe that she would no longer hug or kiss him.
However, life does not stand still. At the end of 2011, Konstantin went to a law office on business. There he met one of the employees, the slender brunette Tamara Belotelova. She is 8 years younger than the musician. He immediately liked the girl. Our hero invited her on a date. After this, they began a romantic relationship. After 2 months, Tamara moved into her lover’s apartment.
Producer of the ex-lead singer of the Brothers Grim group: Boris is going to change his gender!
In the 2000s, the hits of the Brothers Grim group sounded literally from all directions. Millions of Russians sang the songs of the red-haired twins, “batting their eyelashes” and “walking barefoot through the streets” near Kusturica. Overnight, the Burdaev brothers quarreled. Konstantin became an exemplary family man, Boris made headlines: the ex-soloist of the Brothers Grim group started a drunken brawl; shocked hotel guests with his exposed private parts; attacked his producer. On top of that, the outrageous artist came out (a person’s voluntary recognition of his belonging to a sexual minority. - Ed.). However, the loud statement did not help the singer attract attention and regain his former glory. Now Borya Grim is promoting rock to the masses, giving concerts more often in the provinces than in the capital. Now the singer’s producer is making another scandalous statement: 35-year-old Boris Burdaev is soon planning to change his gender.
— Now Borya travels abroad very often. Even at the moment he is in Madrid. I don’t know exactly what he’s doing there. But he has thoughts about gender reassignment. If he does this, I will stop working with him. He is gay, and this is already a deviation. If he also becomes a woman, he will ask to be called not Borey, but some Natalie... The public will no longer perceive him.
The producer also spoke about the problems that constantly arise during work due to his artist’s gayness.
— The fact that Borya is gay creates big problems for our cooperation with him. I believe that personal life should be a personal life, and not intersect with work issues. He can easily come to the city on tour and sit endlessly in special chat rooms for gays: call someone or stupidly look for someone to spend the night with. This is unacceptable for me,” Andrei Borodin told Life. — Instead of preparing for the concert, he thinks about which boy he should sleep with. You come to work, and you only have to think about it. If you want to have sex with someone, you do it at home, not at work. He very often disrupts interviews, especially if he is not physically satisfied. On top of everything, our production center is engaged in children's creativity, and here Borya is gay. This is not good.
However, the singer himself cannot yet provide specific information about a possible gender change. Instead, Burdaev prefers to indulge in philosophical reasoning on this matter.
- Firstly, in principle, I will not be able to give birth to a child, this, of course, would be good, but it is not yet possible. Although they would pay me a million dollars, because the man will finally give birth. Secondly, it doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing. Imagine, you will film a video of me giving birth to a child. How should I do this? Do you know that men during childbirth faint when they see what is happening there. And here I will give birth... This is incredibly ugly, comrades. So science will help us,” Boris Burdaev told Life.
Wedding
In September 2012, Russian print media reported that Kostya Grim had married a second time. And it turned out to be true. First, the couple signed in one of the capital's registry offices. Then they, along with numerous guests, went to celebrate the wedding in an elite restaurant, where the spouses were treated to fun competitions, touching congratulations and delicious dishes. Lovers will remember this day for the rest of their lives.
The funny thing is that Tamara’s mother did not know until the last moment who her famous son-in-law was. The woman immediately found a common language with him. Kostya’s mother also liked her daughter-in-law. But Bori’s twin brother was not at the wedding for obvious reasons.
After the celebration, the newlyweds went on their honeymoon to France. Konstantin and Tamara sunbathed on the beach, explored local sights and took a lot of photographs.
The couple have been legally married for 4 years. During this time, they never quarreled or uttered such a big word as divorce. Kostya and Toma are sure that they are made for each other. Love and mutual understanding reign in their relationship. The only thing the Burdaevs lack for complete happiness is children together. The couple hopes that there will be a new addition to their family very soon.
Group “Brothers Grim”: “It’s not hard to sing in Belarusian!”
From the recording studio comes the familiar timbre of the Brothers Grim, only in the Belarusian language. And there is only one soloist.
Kostya Burdaev came to Minsk for three days. During this time, he is going to sing in Belarusian with the group “U Neskladovae”, shoot a new video for the song “Hallelujah” and perform together with the Belarusian group with the presentation of the single “Stansyya” at the Moulin Rouge club.
“It’s not hard to sing in Belarusian,” Kostya assures. — I have always been interested in the common roots and origins of words in Slavic languages. In this way you begin to understand your own language. And turning to the Belarusian language, where there are so many Slavic words that have already been lost, but you still have, is very interesting. And for the future, I would still like to translate it into Russian.
— There have been global changes in your group - have the Brothers Grim split up? Are you trying a solo career?
— Global changes have occurred a long time ago. The Brothers Grim remain as they were. All people are brothers. The group was founded in 1998, and to this day it is alive, blooming and smelling. After a long break, after 2007, we released a new album of the group - it’s called “Wings of Titans”. But there was no solo project. For me, the Brothers Grim project is not a project of two brothers, it is by no means a duet - it is a musical phenomenon.
- What is your brother doing now?
- What can I tell you about him? I have already answered questions about my brother so many times (sighs. - Author) . It happens that one of its founders leaves the group. We can say that we are pioneers in Russia in this regard, I can’t remember any of my colleagues, but well, we are the first. Margulis left in The Time Machine, but he returned again.
- Can my brother come back?
- I don’t know (Kostya takes a drag on his cigarette. - Author), ask him. Maybe or not? Or maybe the earth will collide with the celestial axis? Well, probably, it can, if you think about it theoretically. I can say - maybe, and then I will be in the mood to say - it can’t.
— Why did you go to Samara? Tired of Moscow social life?
- So wanted. I vomited uncontrollably towards my homeland. And there he took up completely different music, which, it seems to him, is more relevant. Maybe he will release something in the near future, but not within the framework of the Brothers Grim. He gave up on this phenomenon within himself and decided that he had already done everything he could for this group.
- But you don’t like his departure?
“I may or may not like it, but it doesn’t change anything, because Borya really at some point stopped matching the image of the Brothers Grim.” He stopped liking what was happening with and around the group. He became a slightly different person, changed his worldview. Music is a disease for life. As they say: “The entrance is a ruble, and the exit is two.” He makes music, but a little different. She's good in her own way... she must be. He cannot express himself in a group, he expresses himself on his own. Already on my own.
— Aren’t you going to change anything in the sound of the Brothers Grim?
- Well, yes, I like it. The mood that we set initially is our specialty. And if we were able to do this and people like it, then it seems to me that it should be continued.
— Was the revival of “The Brothers Grim” your and your wife’s idea?
— Creativity is driven by love, as a rule. Today is a significant day - June 20, and filming for the song “Hallelujah” has just begun. I wrote this song for my wife and gave it to her on this very date. And it so happened that I started filming the video on the same day.
— Have you survived your crisis... Have you heard anything about the crisis that Belarus is going through?
“I am for there not to be a crisis in the soul of every person.” If there is a crisis in the soul, you need to get out of it, but socio-political, economic crises - all this can be overcome, all this can be experienced.

Relationship with brother
After Boris left the group, he and Kostya practically did not speak to each other. They can only say hello when they meet. Even the closest person, the mother, fails to reconcile the brothers.
Perhaps the whole point is that they are similar to each other on the outside, but different on the inside. What does this mean? They have different ideas about music, love and life. For example, Kostya Grim is an exemplary family man. And Borya, being married, did not feel like a happy person. That's why I got divorced.
In 2009, Boris Burdaev admitted to having a non-traditional sexual orientation. After that, he “went into all sorts of troubles.” The former lead singer of the Brothers Grim group often changed sexual partners. He was no longer interested in serious relationships.
In October 2020, it became known that Borya wants to change his gender. Kostya Grim does not comment on this news. He was already accustomed to his brother's quirks. But the mother will probably worry about the fact that her son will become a woman.
Reason for breakup
The reason for the collapse of the Brothers Grim group was disagreements between the participants. Officially, the team with its previous composition ceased to exist in 2009. By that time, their fame had already subsided and most of their performances were at corporate events.
According to one of the twins, Boris Burdaev, the active touring schedule drained all his strength. For three years, the group was constantly traveling, which did not have the best effect on the emotional and physical state of its members. Therefore, Borya wanted to take a temporary break, with which his brother Konstantin strongly disagreed, who, as a sign of protest, suddenly changed all passwords overnight and closed access to the site where offers of performances were received.
Then Kostya continued his work, but under a different, slightly changed label - “Grim”. Less than a year later, the group returned the word “brothers” to its name, although only one of the twins remained in the group.
Boris won the right to also perform under the name “Brothers Grim” and made attempts to revive fans’ interest in the group. The relationship between the soloists was never restored. Even in difficult life situations, Konstantin continued to ignore his twin, but Boris told him “thank you” for providing him with the opportunity to grow and not degrade.
The last time both brothers came together again was to compete at the World Cup in Samara, which took place in 2018.
Childhood and youth
Jacob Grimm was born on January 4, 1785, and a year later - on February 24, 1786 - Wilhelm Grimm was born. Their father Philipp Wilhelm Grimm worked as a lawyer at the Court of Justice of the city of Hanau. In 1791, he was appointed to the position of head of the Steinau district, where his entire family had to move. The man worked day and night, and as a result of fatigue and overwork, a common cold developed into pneumonia. He died in 1796, he was 44 years old.
Of course, this was a tragedy for the Grimm family. Dorothea Grimm, the brothers' mother, was left alone with six children. At this time, their father’s sister, Charlotte Schlemmer, moved in with them; it was she who provided financial assistance to the family and saved them from eviction from the house.
But trouble came to Grimm again - Aunt Schlemmer suddenly fell ill and died suddenly. Jacob and Wilhelm were the eldest children, and they had to take on some of their mother's responsibilities. But Dorothea understood that the boys were smart and talented, and the only thing she could give them was an education.
Her sister, Henriette Zimmer, lived in Kassel; the woman agreed to host her beloved nephews so that they could continue their studies at the highest level lyceum. Students studied at the gymnasium for 7-8 years. But the brothers were so hardworking and diligent that they managed to master the material many times faster than others. Therefore, they graduated from the lyceum after four years.
At school, boys studied natural science, geography, ethics, physics and philosophy, but the basis of teaching was philological and historical disciplines. Jacob still found school easier than his brother. It is possible that the reason for this was his good health. Wilhelm was diagnosed with asthma.
In 1802, Jacob entered the University of Marburg to become a lawyer, but Wilhelm had to stay behind to undergo treatment. The following year, Jacob moved his brother to Marburg, and he also entered the university. True, he required regular medical supervision.
In their free time, the brothers loved to draw; one day their younger brother Ludwig Emil saw the paintings, and was so inspired by this work that he connected his future with the artistic craft, becoming a popular engraver and artist in Germany.
Why did one of the brothers leave the Brothers Grim group?
Concert of the group "Brothers Grim" at the STV Star Ring. The group "Brothers Grim" was created in Samara in 1998 by twin brothers - Boris and Konstantin Burdaev. In Moscow, with the help of producer Leonid Burlakov, they achieve real popularity. After the release of the third album, the group unexpectedly broke up and was re-established only in 2010, but without Boris Burdaev. To date, the group's discography includes 4 studio albums.
Nina Bogdanova: Is it true that your work was also influenced by the work of the Syabry ensemble?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”): Everything in music is continuity. When Syabry started playing, I was still walking under the table. In childhood, the perception of music is much sharper; what we hear in childhood is wrapped in our brain and remains for the rest of our lives.
Nina Bogdanova: What changed in your music after Boris left?
Konstantin (Group "Brothers Grim") : Absolutely nothing, our notorious grim-rock remains, it will continue to exist, just like the group "Brothers Grim".
Nina Bogdanova: Aren't you tired of the songs from the first album?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : It’s the same as asking parents if they’re tired of their children.
Nina Bogdanova: Hasn’t their relevance decreased over time?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : The relevance of good songs never decreases if they are still heard on the radio and are loved by people. A good song plays at any time in any place, even after 30-40 years, they always remain relevant, time passes, someone begins to cover them, revive them. This is a normal topic. I hope this happens with our songs.
Viewer from the audience: In 2009, your group broke up due to creative differences. What didn't the Grim brothers share?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : The fact is that our group did not completely break up. The group "Brothers Grim" is not two twin brothers; two twin brothers were the founders of this group. And since one founder left, the second remained, the group continues to exist. We recorded the fourth record “Wings of Titan”. The group exists, the group continues to write songs, there was a slight castling. Instead of my brother, his ex-wife Katya Pletneva joined the group.
Spectator from the audience: You recorded your second album in New Zealand, was there really no high-quality recording studio in Moscow?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : There are many high-quality studios, but in music a lot is decided by the mood. When you come to the studio in New Zealand, in a completely unfamiliar and unusual country, you begin to approach the composition and the songs themselves with a different mood. The result is different.
Spectator from the audience: Weren't you afraid that after your brother left you would be loved less?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : The eyes are afraid, the hands are doing. Naturally, many fans took this situation with hostility, then they realized that there could be no other situation, because my brother had left the group forever. He goes about his business in the city of Samara, and we continue to move on.
Spectator from the audience: Who is easier to sing with, alone or with your brother?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : Of course, it’s easier with a brother.
Viewer from the audience: What is your brother doing now?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : He is engaged in a new trend of downshifting, this is when Don Corleone, in retirement, plants tomatoes. About the same.
Nina Bogdanova: Doesn’t it annoy you that people always ask about your brother and not about you?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : No, it doesn’t annoy me at all. it's quite normal. I have a brother, there is nothing surprising in these matters.
Spectator from the audience: Your album “Wings of Titans” was recorded with a new line-up. What did you find and lose in your work when your brother left?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : Creatively, I gained myself, because before that my brother was the main writer and vocalist. I had to take this burden entirely upon myself. I doubted and looked at myself from the outside for a long time. But I succeeded.
Dmitry Wrangel: Katya, how does your husband feel about the fact that you spend more time with his brother?
Katya Pletneva (Group “Brothers Grim”) : In principle, we never discussed this with him. After the divorce, we don’t communicate with him at all, I heard that he allowed it and somehow isn’t particularly upset.
Konstantin (Group "Brothers Grim") : We are old friends, because Katya Pletneva participated back in 99 in the group "Brothers Grim", she played acoustic guitar, sang backing vocals, that's why she didn't come to the group, she returned . Katya is like a sister to me, I have known her for a long time, and we are connected by the same musical karma.
Katya Pletneva (Group “Brothers Grim”) : And I call Kostya father.
Viewer from the audience: What do you sometimes feel ashamed of in your relationships with loved ones?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : I am now ashamed of what happened to me in 2005. We hit the copper pipes quite hard, but this is normal, I have not yet seen a single person who calmly went through star fever, because for us it was a surprise, it fell on us from above like an anvil. I remember myself at that time, I treated people differently, for some reason I decided that it was my fault that what happened. In fact, this is the merit of the Lord God. I am ashamed that I said something wrong somewhere, looked at someone wrong. I'm ashamed of this.
Spectator from the audience: Please accept my condolences for the loss of a loved one. What changed in your life after Lesya's death?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : It’s no secret that my wife, with whom I was together for 9 years, has passed away. It was the sudden death of a young girl, her heart could not stand it... I still don’t know what has changed, because too little time has passed. I feel like she's helping me now.
Spectator from the audience: Some consider your group to be rock, others - pop, and still others - something in between. Tell me, what end result are you aiming for?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : Whatever they call it, the main thing is that we play these songs. Pop, rock, what difference does it make, we are the Brothers Grim group!
Spectator from the audience: In March 2009, you decided to return the name to the group “Brothers Grim”. Have you thought about changing the name of the group to Brother Grim?
Konstantin (Group "Brothers Grim") : "Brothers Grim" is a well-known group and a well-known brand. Confusing people, listeners, fans, program directors is a completely stupid thing to do. All the same, no matter where we went, even when our group was called simply “Grim”, they wrote “Brothers Grim” on the posters, we could not fight it in any way.
Spectator from the audience: When you were a child, were you and your brother friendly?
Konstantin (Group “Brothers Grim”) : We constantly quarreled and fought among ourselves, but this happened as a joke.
Literature
The Brothers Grimm have always been interested in literature. Despite the fact that they graduated from the Faculty of Law, they were attracted by German poetry, which Professor Savigny discovered to them. Jacob and Wilhelm spent hours studying old tomes in his home library.
All further activities of the Grimm brothers were directly related to German literature, philological problems, and research work. Fairy tales are only part of the incredible amount of work that the brothers have done in the fields of literature and linguistics.
In 1808, Jacob went to Paris to help Professor Savigny collect materials for scientific work. Wilhelm remained to finish his studies at the university. Since childhood, they were so close to each other that even at this age they experienced unprecedented melancholy in separation, as evidenced by their correspondence.
In 1808, their mother died, and all worries about the Grimm family fell on Jacob's shoulders. Returning from France, he spent a long time looking for a job with decent pay and eventually got a job at Kassel Castle, managing the royal personal library. Wilhelm's health deteriorated again, and his brother sent him to a resort. At that time he did not have a permanent job.
Upon Wilhelm's return from treatment, the brothers got to work - they began to research ancient Germanic literature. They managed to collect, process and record dozens of folk legends that had been passed on from mouth to mouth for hundreds of years.
Many women from Kassel participated in the creation of the first volume of fairy tales. For example, next door to Grimm lived a wealthy pharmacist, Mr. Wild, with his wife and children. Frau Wild knew countless stories, which she gladly told Wilhelm. Sometimes her daughters, Gretchen and Dortchen, joined them. Many years will pass before Dortchen becomes Wilhelm's wife.
A housekeeper, Maria Muller, lived in their house. The elderly woman had a phenomenal memory, and she knew thousands of fairy tales. Maria told her brothers the story of the beautiful Sleeping Beauty and the brave one. But, remembering these fairy tales, it immediately comes to mind. As it turned out, it is extremely difficult to find the true author of the fairy tale. In essence, these are European folk tales.
Each compiler, including Grimm, interpreted these stories in his own way. Here, for example, is the fairy tale about Cinderella. In Perrault's version, her fairy godmother performs miracles for the girl. And for the Brothers Grimm, it’s a hazel tree on her mother’s grave. Later, based on this story, the movie “Three Nuts for Cinderella” will be made.
In 1812, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm had their first success - they published the collection “Children's and Family Tales,” which included 100 works. The writers immediately began preparing material for the second book. It included many fairy tales heard not by the brothers Grimm themselves, but by their friends. As before, writers reserved the right to give fairy tales their own language edition. Their second book was published in 1815. True, the books have been reprinted.
The fact is that some fairy tales were considered inappropriate for children. For example, a fragment was removed where Rapunzel innocently asks her godmother why her dress was so tight to her rounded belly. It was about her pregnancy, which occurred after secret meetings with the prince.
He became the first translator of the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales for the Russian reader.
In 1819, the brothers published a volume of "German Grammar". This work became a sensation in the scientific community; it took about 20 years to write - it became the basis for all subsequent studies of Germanic languages.
But still, the brothers’ main work was the “German Dictionary”. They began working on it in 1838. It was hard and long work. 100 years later he called the Dictionary a “heroic deed,” a “philological monument.” Contrary to the name, it was essentially a comparative historical dictionary of Germanic languages. Since the writers did not have time to finish work on the dictionary, their work was continued by subsequent generations of philologists. Thus, the work was completed by 1960 - 120 years after it began.
"Brothers Grim": To create, you need to be permanently in love
If you tried to bat your eyelashes and take off, but nothing worked... If you walked barefoot down the street after Kusturica's film... Then, you, like no one else, will understand which musician the Vox Populi journalists prepared an interview with. You are welcome: Konstantin Burdaev, lead singer of the Brothers Grim group, about love, music and values.
Konstantin Burdaev, lead singer of the Brothers Grimm group
We have such a diverse range of songs on every album that one critic once said, "The Brothers Grim will never have crazy fans, due to the fact that they have such a diverse range of music for all ages."
VOX: You had a fairly long break...
- It never existed! Most people are accustomed to thinking that we have disappeared for a while, but this is not so. At the moment, the group has five albums, the sixth will be released this fall. We didn't disappear anywhere. In addition to our famous songs “Kusturica” and “Clap Your Eyelashes,” which became popular hits ten years ago, other songs were also released, for example, “Come Back” and “Hallelujah.” Many people probably want to think that popularity is when you appear everywhere. Now we have moved into a calm touring and working direction. The courage of popularity, as a rule, only happens once... And thank God!
Performance on August 14, 2020 in Almaty
VOX: What about the breakup of the group?
— There was no breakup of the group. In general this is a very bad term. In two years our group will be 20 years old. We formed in 97, and throughout this time we have been together. People come and go to the group, the composition changes. Analyzing this situation, I somehow caught myself thinking: “The Brothers Grim group is a creative and musical laboratory, where various musicians come, and each of them brings something of their own.”
VOX: Do you keep in touch with former band members?
- Naturally. From time to time I invite many of them to record. For example, four guitarists worked on the album “The Most Favorite Music”. One guitarist from the 2005 lineup. We already have a concert band, and for recording we invite different musicians, starting with the violin section and ending with guitarists.
Concert in Almaty, “Under the sky of Ushuaia”
VOX: What kind of music is the band making now?
- Always the same, but always new. It is quite difficult to change the concept of songs, because it is a laconic genre. When you produce creativity, it is impossible to change its perception within yourself. For example, I cannot start singing like Yuri Antonov. We have such a diverse range of songs on every album that one critic once said, "The Brothers Grim will never have crazy fans, due to the fact that they have such a diverse range of music for all ages." We try to be positive. People are tired of negativity. If you suffer while listening to music, think about bad things, such events will be attracted. Those dashing 90s when people suffered have already passed. Now everything is somehow easier and more optimistic.
VOX: What inspires you to create?
— Inspiration is, first of all, love. When you fall in love, magical things happen. To create, you need to be permanently in love with something. For many creative people, inspiration ends when something happens in their personal life. Thank God, everything is fine with me, so inspiration has a place. Thanks to this, we are releasing two albums this year.
VOX: What action are you most proud of?
- There is such an act, I did it recently. Three years ago I proposed to my future wife, and we got married!
VOX: What can cause negative emotions in you?
— I really don’t like pretentious, pompous, fake people, because this is how they compensate for some of their problems, lack of upbringing. This actually irritates me a lot. Probably everyone will not like this behavior.
True creativity is not measured by charts or the amount of money earned, but by the unit of people's love. And if the songs you performed ten years ago are still loved, then we probably managed to do something in this life.
VOX: How do you cope with stress?
- I try not to hit him. If something happens, I say: “It is God’s will.” Everyone must experience and understand this.
VOX: What is your most vivid childhood memory?
— Childhood is one continuous vivid memory. It’s a little difficult to pick out some individual scraps and frames... I remember my wonderful, happy Soviet childhood. It was just such a good time until the Soviet Union collapsed. Life was not easy for everyone in the 80s, but my childhood was light and bright. I managed to catch a time when there were honest relationships between people, life flowed very measuredly and calmly, ideals were preserved.

VOX: How much does a person need to be happy?
- Very little! For example, communication. I communicate only with those people with whom I work, with those closest to me, with my family. A person needs little: healthy parents, happy loved ones and the woman who is next to you.
VOX: Can you describe the work of your group in one word?
— Probably, describing creativity is the lot of critics. Most likely, this is “sunny joy”, but even if there is sadness in the songs, it is also bright and kind. Because this is exactly the mood that we try to give listeners at concerts. To some extent, this is our mission.
VOX: What kind of music is there more today: high-quality or commercial?
— Now there is a huge amount of any commercial product, be it art, music or cinema... This is the time now, apparently. But even in this world of the “golden calf” there is always room for something real. True creativity is not measured by charts or the amount of money earned, but by the unit of people’s love. And if the songs you performed ten years ago are still loved, then we probably managed to do something in this life.
VOX: What musical genre is most in demand today?
- You know, there are so many of them now, for every taste. Music is either good or bad. If a song hits straight to the heart, then the genre doesn't matter. Genres exist precisely in order to somehow frame music and sell it deliciously.
Band "Brothers Grim", concert in Almaty
VOX: Is there a recipe for creating hits?
- If only someone knew this... All the best and most important things happen by chance. When you think about how to find that opportunistic path for people, nothing works out.
VOX: How to stay on the wave of popularity?
- First of all, don’t think about it. Secondly, just do what you like, what you consider necessary and honest. I prefer the word “demand”.
VOX: Do political situations somehow influence your work?
— Politics generally influences the life of every person, not only creative ones. We cannot be outside of politics. As Pericles said: “If you are not interested in politics, this does not mean that she is not interested in you.” Our destinies and lives depend on any decision of the person who is at the helm of power. Music reflects the mood of society at a certain point in time. For example, the group “Brothers Grim” appeared when people wanted something light.
VOX: What could you do besides music?
- Lord, my God... I don’t know... If this really happens... I once prepared to enter medical school, but literally a month before the entrance exams I changed my mind. I just realized that music brings me the greatest satisfaction, and it is in it that I can realize myself. It’s good that I didn’t become a doctor, otherwise deaths would have become much more frequent.
Avoid unnecessary mistakes from a young age, don’t indulge in stupid ideas, don’t be naive, trust people less and trust yourself more!
VOX: Are you interested in anything besides music?
— To be honest, no, because music is a hobby and work rolled into one. It's wonderful when you find something like this to do. You could say that I am engaged in a paid hobby.
VOX: What are the creative plans of the Brothers Grim group?
— Now we are actively touring, releasing our sixth album. It will be a completely different record. The penultimate released album contains very “sweet”, lyrical music that suits “girls”, and in the fall there will be a rock album suitable for the mood of “boys”. Let's see what comes of this.
VOX: Do you have any wishes for our readers?
- Avoid unnecessary mistakes from a young age, don’t indulge in stupid ideas, don’t be naive, trust people less and trust yourself more! Love and create families, live to a ripe old age. That's all I can wish for!
Personal life
Wilhelm Grimm met his daughter Dortchen in the house of the pharmacist Wild. At that time she was still quite a baby. The difference between them is 10 years. But, having matured, the young people immediately found a common language. The girl supported him in all his endeavors, becoming first and foremost a friend to him. In 1825 the couple got married.
Soon the girl became pregnant. In 1826, Dortchen gave birth to a boy, who was named Jacob, and Jacob Sr. became his godfather. But six months later the baby died of jaundice. In January 1828, the couple had a second son, Herman. Later he chose the profession of art critic.
But Jacob Grimm remained a bachelor; the man devoted his life to his brother’s work and family.
group "Younger Brothers"
LeningradThe Younger Brothers group, created in 1984 by brothers Viktor and Alexander Lushin, represented one of the most striking examples of the new wave. Initially focused on modern musical aesthetics, in search of their identity they went through almost all directions: ska, reggae, neo-romanticism, new jazz, guitar minimalism, etc. The group's songs were distinguished by a recognizable melodic language and good lyrics, and its concerts included elements of theatricality. The group included: Alexander Lushin - vocals; Sergey Berezovoy - bass guitar; Dmitry Shubin - guitar; Sergey Kononov – drums; Viktor Lushin - keyboards. The group's first performance took place in the winter of 1984 in the dormitory of the Vaganova Choreographic School and after that the Younger Brothers group disappeared from view for a whole year. During this period, the group worked in Andrei Tropillo’s studio, tried to record their material, but without finishing the album, they quit their job, feeling a lack of experience and professionalism. By that time, S. Berezova had entered the Mussorgsky Music College and the composition of the group had changed, Alexander Zaitsev came - bass guitar and Denis Savin - drums. In the summer of 1985, D. Savin was replaced on drums by sixteen-year-old Andrei Kudryavtsev. A little later, the group was strengthened by guitarist Andrei Kordyukov. At the end of 1985, the Younger Brothers group joined the Leningrad Rock Club. In the spring of next year, A. Zaitsev left the group, and Viktor Ivanov took up the bass guitar. Since the fall, the group began performing regularly both on the stage of the rock club and at other venues in the city. Recordings of three concerts from this period formed the basis of the album “Live'86”. He received a review on the pages of RIO: “Musically, “Younger Brothers” easily fits into the framework of the new wave song tradition. There are probably no special discoveries, but most of the songs have a well-recognized riff or melodic phrase that can hook you. The arrangements converge towards the fashionable electropop style, although they lack the gloss of a record, and rapid passages of the guitar sometimes break through the isolation of the bass-keyboard formula...” The author of most of the group’s lyrics was the young poet Evgeniy Myakishev. At the beginning of 1987, the energetic A. Kordyukov left to form his own group, and Denis Medvedev, a tenor saxophone, and Maxim Shirves, a music school student, appeared in the Younger Brothers group - keyboards, guitar, trumpet. The group played at the Rock-Niva 87 video festival in the spring, organized by Andrei Tropillo. And soon after this, A. Kordyukov returned to it, and the brass section was strengthened by trumpeter Kirill Vasiliev. The group's performance at the Palace of Youth at the V Festival of the Leningrad Rock Club, which took place in June 1987, turned into a slight scandal: the musicians' friends, brought in as a show band, got so excited that they arbitrarily pulled a fire extinguisher onto the stage and, opening it, poured water on everyone and everything. around: as a result, the clothes of the spectators in the first rows and a couple of amplifiers filled with foam were damaged! During the summer, the discouraged musicians of the group went on vacation. In the fall, the group got together, but without horns, and musically its style from electropop and new jazz began to drift towards guitar minimalism. In this music there was room for the guitarist to develop, however, there was no room left for keyboards, so Viktor Lushin, who until that moment had been the de facto leader and main author, felt superfluous. In June 1988, after the group “Younger Brothers” successfully played at two stages of the VI festival of the Leningrad Rock Club at the Winter Stadium, he left and created the studio group “Punctuation Marks”. In November 1988, A. Lushin also parted with the group, reuniting with his brother, who was recording his debut album at that time. On the December tour, Eduard Nesterenko sang instead of him. In January 1989, the Younger Brothers group broke up. Based on materials from Andrey Burlak.
Death
Wilhelm Grimm died on December 16, 1859. The fatal disease was caused by a boil on the back. He had not been in good health before, but no one expected such a sad outcome this time. Every day Wilhelm became worse. The operation didn't help. The man had a fever. His suffering ceased from pulmonary paralysis after two weeks. Jacob continued to live with Wilhelm's widow and nephews.
Until the end of his life, the writer worked on the dictionary. The last word he wrote down was the word "Frucht" (fruit). The man felt sick at his desk. Jacob died of a stroke on September 20, 1863.
The world-famous storytellers were buried in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Berlin.
Biography
The Brothers Grim are a Russian pop-rock band. Created by twins Boris and Konstantin Veniaminovich Burdaev (brothers were born on June 6, 1981, Samara).
The history of the group began in 1998, when twin brothers Boris and Konstantin Burdaev created the group “Brothers Grim” in Samara (the group’s name has one letter “m”, unlike the Brothers Grimm).
The first concert took place at the local Medical-Technical Lyceum.

The singles “Fly”, “Sea Off Season”, “In the Morning” are included in the rotation of radio stations. The record was recorded in Kyiv with sound producer Vitaly Telezin.
In the summer and autumn of 2008, the group underwent changes in its composition, and on March 6, 2009, due to creative differences, the Brothers Grim group suspended work.
Boris decided to take a sabbatical, and Konstantin continued to work. On March 8, 2 days after Boris left, Kostya Grim plays his first solo acoustic concert on the stage of one of the Moscow clubs.
From August 2009 to March 2010, the group changed its name to “Grim” and, with an updated lineup, released new singles “Laos” and “Planes”.
In December 2009, the group “Grim” took part in a tribute to the anniversary of the group “Time Machine”, performing the composition “Candle” in its variation.[6] In 2009, Konstantin Grim and Katya Pletnyova (ex-wife of Boris Burdaev) took part in the recording of the rock musical “Heroin” (a project of the VIA group Hagi-Tragger).
The presentation of the rock musical took place on March 24, 2010 at the Moscow club “Chinese Pilot Zhao Da”.
In March 2010, Konstantin Grim announced a return to the name "Brothers Grim".
Brother Boris did not return to the group and we are talking about a new composition of the group under the old name. That same month, the group presented a new single, “Come Back.”
On October 14, 2010, the group “Brothers Grim” with an updated lineup released their fourth album, which was called “Wings of Titan”. The presentation of the album took place at the Moscow club "Radio City". In total, the album includes 11 new compositions and three bonus tracks.
On December 16, 2010, at the age of 30, Lesya Khudyakova (wife of Konstantin Burdaev), known under the pseudonym “Lesya Krieg,” died in the Sklifosovsky Hospital from heart failure.
On June 12, 2011, the group represented Russia at the Russian-German Friendship Festival in Berlin.
In the fall of 2011, news appeared about Boris Burdaev’s return to the stage with a new creative team called “Lirrika”.
The group's first appearance took place on November 15 at the 16 Ton club (Moscow).
This fact dispelled rumors about the possibility of a reunion of the original composition of the Brothers Grim group.
