early years

Kesha was born in Los Angeles and was raised solely by her mother, Pib Sebert,[6] who was also a singer and songwriter. She was also involved in raising Kesha’s older brother; at that time, their family was not in the best financial situation.[7] In 1991, the Sebert family moved to Nashville, Tennessee, the legendary capital of American country music. Kesha spent her childhood in local studios, and at one time she was very surprised that other children grew up in some different circumstances[8][9]. At the age of 17, Kesha returned to Los Angeles to continue her musical career, which she was convinced of by Lukasz Gottwald (Dr. Luke) and Max Martin[7][9][10]. Kesha's musical material impressed Lukash[9][10] so much that he and Max Martin immediately offered to collaborate with her[6][11].

Carier start

At the beginning of her journey, Kesha had a difficult time, she earned little[12] and in order to make ends meet, she had to work part-time as a waitress, while recording in studios, collaborating with various producers[7] and creating songs for other artists[6]. One day, Kesha wanted Prince to produce her music. Having bribed the gardener, she entered his mansion and met the musician in person. His bodyguards threw Kesha out of the house, but not before she handed Prince her album.[6][7][8][11]

Between 2006 and 2009, Kesha's music appeared in many television series and shows.[7][13][14] At the same time, she participated in the creation of the single “This Love” by the Australian group The Veronicas[6][11], and also recorded backing vocals for the song “Lace and Leather” by Britney Spears[15] and starred in Katy Perry’s video for the song "I Kissed a Girl"[9]. Such collaboration became possible thanks to Kesha’s friendship with Katy Perry and their frequent meetings in Los Angeles[16].

The main success came to Kesha after her recording in the single “Right Round” by American rapper Flow Ride[12]. The song was produced by Dr. Luke, he suggested Cash Flow Ride when the latter decided that the single lacked female vocals[7]. Flow Ride liked the result so much that he invited Kesha to work on the song “Touch Me” from the same album[5]. However, Kesha did not take any money for her participation[6][12] and refused to star in the “Right Round” video because she wanted to make it through her own strength[15]. Soon it became known that she had signed a contract with RCA Records[12] and that the producer of her debut album Animal

will become Dr.
Luke[6][7]. In the USA, the album was released on January 5, 2010[17], in Russia - on January 25[18]. On November 22, a re-release of Animal
entitled
Cannibal
.

The song “TiK ToK” became the most successful digital single of 2010. This was reported in the annual report of the International Federation of the Recording Industry (IFPI). In 2010, the track “TiK ToK” was downloaded a total of 12.8 million times.

2010–2011: Animal and Cannibal

Work on the material for the album took six years. After failing to sign with Lava Records and Atlantic Records in 2009, Kesha signed with RCA Records through Dr. Luke. Kesha wrote 200 songs for the album. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Animal

It was certified platinum in the United States,[19] and received mixed reviews from music critics.[20]
Rolling Stone
magazine called the album "obnoxious and ridiculously catchy." Four singles were released from the album - Tik Tok, which set a first-week sales record, "Blah Blah Blah", which featured 3OH!3, "Your Love Is My Drug" and "Take It Off". A music video was also shot for the song Backstabber.

Animal

was re-released as a mini-album.
The re-release was called Cannibal
, and the EP was released in connection with Kesha's desire to extend the sound of the album.
Cannibal was released in two versions - a deluxe version containing tracks from the Animal
and video clips for the songs "Stephen", "Animal" and "Take It Off" (K$ n' Friends Version). From the re-release, Kesha chose "We R Who We R" and "Blow" as the singles, and "Sleazy" as the promotional single.

2012-2013: Warrior

Working on the Warrior

Kesha started in 2011 during her first tour, the Get Sleazy Tour.
In an interview with V Magazine
, Kesha said that most of the songs on the album will feature less auto-tune.[21]
The album featured key co-writers and producers Kesha, Dr.Luke and Max Martin, as well as Wayne Coyne, lead singer of The Flaming Lips.[22][23] The first single from Warrior
, "Die Young",[24] debuted at number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100, eventually peaking at number two.[25][26] In addition, the single entered the charts in Europe and the top ten in Australia, Canada and Belgium[27]. The second single, "C'Mon", was less successful than "Die Young", reaching only 27 in America.

Along with the release of the album, the singer presented the book My Crazy Beautiful Life

, and after some time presented the autobiographical series
Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life
, which was broadcast in April 2013 on the MTV channel[28].
In 2013, Kesha and The Flaming Lips were supposed to release a joint album, called Lipsha
[29]. However, the album was never released.

Kesha's case. Why is everyone discussing him? The singer accused the producer of mental and physical violence.

American singer Kesha has been suing her producer Dr. for the last year and a half. Luke, accusing him of sexual and mental abuse. Kesha's career, according to her, is over, but the singer demands justice. Among those who support her are Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Lorde and many other stars. Meduza tells why Kesha is suing the famous producer and what she wants to achieve.

28-year-old Kesha has two good and quite successful pop albums and a loud hit “TiK ToK”, which only those who spent 2010 far from civilization have not heard. In the last four years, Kesha has not released a single song and seems to have disappeared from show business. In fact, the singer has been in a legal battle with producer Lukasz Gottwald, known as Dr., for a year and a half. Luke: Kesha is demanding that the court terminate her contract with Gottwald because the producer, according to the girl, subjected her to sexual and mental abuse.

Kesha and 42-year-old Gottwald have known each other for more than ten years; the singer signed a contract back in 2005, when she had just turned 18. Her first success came four years later thanks to a single recorded together with rapper Flo Rida; a year later, Kesha’s debut album “Animal” was released, executive produced by Dr. Luke. In addition to him, one of the most influential producers of our time, Max Martin (who collaborated with many stars, from Katy Perry to Taylor Swift), worked on the album. Dr. himself Luke is also a well-known person in the industry; Together with Martin, he wrote “I Kissed A Girl” for Perry, worked with Pink, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and dozens of other stars. In fact, it was he who launched Kesha’s career, “created the singer” - and completely controlled the recording of her discs.

In October 2014, Kesha, who by that time had not released new songs for two years, sued her producer. Kesha demanded to end her contract with Gottwald's Kemosabe label and accused the co-writer of raping her and giving her drugs. In particular, Kesha claims that Gottwald once gave her a pill, which he called “sobering”, after which she lost control of herself and woke up naked in the producer’s room.

Important point: Cash's sexual assault allegations against Dr. Luke did not make but used these arguments in a civil suit to terminate the contract. According to Kesha, Gottwald has complete control over her career; she doesn’t want and can’t work with him, although she is obliged - the producer’s label, part of the major Sony Music, owns full rights to Kesha’s music. "I know I can't work with Dr. Luke. I physically can't. I don't feel safe with him. He threatened me many times,” the singer explained her position.

Sony claims that Kesha is not actually obligated to work with Gottwald and can make music without him, but the singer's lawyers say that the reality is completely different. Exactly how the contract is structured is not known for certain, but as Slate suggests, it appears to be structured so that all music Kesha produces must eventually go through Dr.'s label. Luke and bring him profit. Her contract is for six albums.

This is not the first time Kesha has accused the producer of pressure. In 2012, she released a single from her second album, Warrior, called "Die Young", in the chorus of which she sang: "Let's take everything from this night, as if we were going to die young." After the Sandy Hook school prank in December 2012, radio stations began to pull the song, and Kesha tweeted that she was forced to sing those exact lines; the tweet quickly disappeared. That’s when the hashtag #FreeKesha appeared (now it’s popular again), and the singer’s fans began to demand that Sony rid her of the producer and let Kesha record what she wants.

On Friday, February 19, the court refused to temporarily suspend Kesha's contract with Gottwald. This means that the contract will remain in force during the trial, but the final verdict is still a long way off.

Much more serious forces in the world of show business came out in defense of Kesha. Kesha is supported by many popular artists, including those who worked with Dr. Luke - Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Lorde, Ariana Grande and many others. And also Taylor Swift, who donated $250 thousand to Kesha as support during difficult times.

Dr. Luke denies Kesha's accusations and claims that he never had sex with her, did not give her drugs and did not limit her right to creativity. Gottwald says that Kesha herself spoke about this on the record in 2011 - referring to the transcript of Kesha’s interview in the Dr. trial that was leaked to the press. Luke with another label; it follows that the singer answered negatively to questions about whether Gottwald gave her drugs and whether they had sexual contact.

On February 24, Kesha commented on it on her Facebook page for the first time after the court decision was announced. According to Kesha, all she wants is to make music without the fear of being abused. She does not want a new contract on different terms, and is also ready to continue to remain at Sony Music - just not with Dr. Luke.

“This matter is not just about me. "I'm thinking about all the young girls out there and I don't want my future daughter, or your daughter, to be afraid to talk about abuse, especially if the perpetrator is in a position of power," she wrote.

Kesha's fans are demanding the singer's release from her contractual obligations to producer Dr. Luke

Kesha is a singer from the slums. The young performer, literally, was able to get out of rags to riches.

Biography of singer Kesha

Kesha was born on March 1, 1987 in one of the American cities, namely, in the city of hopes and desires, Los Angeles

According to the documents, the singer bears her mother’s surname - Sebert, and stylizedly signs simply “Ke$ha” and does not force fans to “familiarize”.

Kesha and her older brother were raised exclusively by their mother. Even after becoming famous, singer Kesha never mentions her father, but maintains the warmest relationship with her mother.

It was very difficult for a fragile, single woman to survive with two small children in an expensive city to live in, so the Seberts moved to a small town in Tennessee. There, the mother of the future singer signed a contract with one of the recording studios - Pib Sebert wrote lyrics for other performers.

Almost all of Kesha’s childhood was spent at her mother’s work. Every time, coming to these stuffy and smoky studios, little Kesha dreamed more and more of becoming a singer.

Like all American children, little Kesha was educated in a public school. After lessons, the future star went to music classes.

At the age of 17, Kesha finally realized that she definitely wouldn’t have a musical career in Nashville. Decisive and ambitious Kesha drops out of school and returns to her native Los Angeles. The girl never ceases to hope that she can still become a super star.

The thorny path to glory

Kesha's success story is not so colorful. Arriving in the metropolis, the young girl quickly realized that talent alone will not satisfy you. Therefore, Kesha, without any embarrassment, took the position of a waitress in one of the city cafes. In her free time from work, Kesha looked for new acquaintances and established contacts with producers.

One day, waking up in the morning, for some reason Kesha decided that she wanted to entrust the release of her first record not to anyone, but to Prince himself, an outstanding American singer and producer.

The brave beauty decided to visit the producer right in his mansion. By paying the gardener $5, she secured easy access to the territory of the star’s house. Entering the house through the back door, Kesha went up to the second floor, where the recording studio was located. Of course, as soon as the future singer was noticed, she was immediately taken out by security. However, Kesha miraculously managed to leave the disc with her recordings at Prince’s house.

The desperate operation failed, the singer waited for a call from the producer, but it never came.

Kesha was unable to immediately go on the big stage and sing for the respectable public, and she decided that she needed to achieve her dream in other ways. The girl sets off to conquer television.

Filming in television shows and series brought Kesha useful contacts. On the set of the video, Katy Perry, the aspiring singer Kesha and the star of modern pop music became very attached to each other, and a friendship began between the girls.

Kesha photo No. 3

Soon Kesha began to receive many offers of cooperation - Katy Perry did a great job for her friend.

In 2009, Kesha recorded a single in a duet with rapper Flow Ride. Immediately after the presentation of the track, Kesha felt the first surge of fame and popularity. By the way, during the recording of this song, Kesha had another pleasant and fateful acquaintance with the famous Doctor Luke. The girl amazed Luke with her unique timbre of voice.

“At that time, I desperately needed just such a performer. I asked a lot of girls to audition, but in none of them did I find what I found in Kesha,” recalls Dr. Luke.

In the summer of 2009, singer Kesha’s song “Tik Tok” was released. After the presentation of the single, the girl finally secured her rock star status. This song turned out to be very successful: the first lines of the charts, millions of downloads and sales.

After such stunning success, RCA Records offers Kesha a contract. Already in 2010, the singer released her first solo album. It is worth noting that Kesha’s first album was re-released and edited several times; in total, it took about 6 years to create the “ideal album.” The work of the singer and her producers was justified - the record received platinum status, and the songs from the album have long been subjects of discussion for critics from all over the world.

A couple of years ago, the singer presented another album with the militant title “Warrior and Lipsha”.

Singer Kesha today

Kesha has absolutely no time to deal with her personal life. Having finally achieved her dream, the girl does not stop and devotes herself entirely to music.

“I simply don’t have time for empty romances, but true love is yet to come,” Kesha is sure.

The singer tries not to talk about past love relationships. Although, some details of the star’s personal life can still be found in the autobiographical film “My Crazy Beautiful Life,” the trailer of which Kesha recently presented to a wide range of viewers.

Rumor has it that the autobiographical film will show the singer from the other side and convince others of Kesha’s seriousness. But while the film is still in the process of creation, the singer continues to play pranks: most recently, the shocking Kesha, following the example of many Hollywood stars, appeared in front of camera lenses with... an attached gold-colored iron crown. True, it is still unknown whether Kesha carries real gold in her mouth...
