Igor Yasulovich: family

The hero of this article was born in the Samara region, or more precisely, in the village of Zalesye. This happened in September 1941. His ancestors were Belarusians. Until the seventh grade, Igor studied at a boys' school, which was then combined with a girls' gymnasium. Yasulovich recalls with nostalgia the time when, as a boy, he ran to the girls’ school for the evening and danced rock and roll and boogie-woogie under the gaze of strict teachers.

As a teenager, Igor joined a drama club led by the leading actor of the local drama theater, Ivan Rossomakhin. Thanks to him, young actors had the opportunity not only to often attend Russian Drama, but also to show their amateur performances on the professional stage. From this same circle came such famous actors as Vladimir Korenev and Vitaly Konyaev.

Contrary to his father’s wishes, Igor Yasulovich “became an actor”

The father really wanted his sons to follow in his footsteps and choose a “marine” profession. Boris did not disappoint him, but Igor decided to choose the acting path, since he did not feel confident in the exact sciences. After graduating from school, he went to Moscow and entered the acting department of VGIK, taking a course with the legendary Mikhail Romm. Twelve years later, he again became a student of the great master, this time he decided to master the basics of the directing profession.

Choice of profession

The family hoped that Igor Yasulovich would follow in his father’s footsteps and become a military man. The young man was forced to disappoint his relatives because he did not feel a calling to serve. Even in high school, he firmly decided that he would connect his life with the acting profession. The parents tried for some time to convince their son, and then came to terms with his decision.

After graduating from school, Yasulovich set off to conquer the capital. He attempted to become a student at GITIS, but his plans were not destined to come true. The young man was eliminated in the second round. As a result, Igor became a student at VGIK, and Mikhail Romm took him to his workshop. The young man graduated from the acting department in 1962.

Theater

After graduating from VGIK, the aspiring actor joined the creative team of the Experimental Theater and Pantomime Studio. In 1964, the Theater-Studio of the Film Actor opened its doors to Igor Yasulovich. Such a specific “personal theme” did not imply any special demand for acting and, accordingly, employment - and Igor Yasulovich became one of the most frequently filmed actors.

Appearance deceived, it turned out to be a trick. A special homeliness: nothing noticeable, sharp, but imprinted in the memory instantly. The special transparency of deep-set eyes: you can’t read in them what’s going on in your soul; the gaze is not inclined to “express”, but ideally “reflects” what is dictated by the task of the role. He can be incorruptibly naive, like a rural projectionist who enthusiastically shoots amateur exposé films (Zudov, you’re fired!), or he can reveal a corrosive tenacity, like in the role of a Pole bartender, a mysterious liaison of the criminal and “under-the-law” worlds (St. Petersburg Secrets). A lean, even bony figure with a slight stoop, which, again depending on the character being performed, conveys to the character something sinister (Kings of Russian Detective), dirty-slippery (Unexpectedly) or, on the contrary, touching (The Little Princess).

His face can be transformed beyond recognition with makeup, but I. Ya. prefers not to resort to such a means. Over the years, this face, ascetically thin and narrow, became less and less owl-like. intellectual and the properties of the “non-Soviet” breed emerged more and more clearly. It is obvious that shaggy sideburns and primly licked temples, tight starched collars, expensive trinkets and “delicious” accessories, in general the good old surroundings of the past suit him (Uncle’s Dream, The Adventures of Count Nevzorov, The Little Princess - the list of films that used him in this capacity threatens tire). But even in the role of some long-nosed eccentric from the “lower classes,” I. Ya. does not seem like a mummer, and he will find a provincial upstart in himself, and even an outcast homeless person.

The genre field has been traversed by I. Ya. far and wide: from fairy tales to action adventure films, from revolutionary epics to comedy musicals; even such a hybrid as a heroic production drama was tasted. This dizzying kaleidoscope is only possible for an artist whose skill has been brought almost to the point of automatism, allowing him to polish the surface of each, even the most insignificant role, to a matte shine.

Bright debut
