Biography of Kit Harington
Christopher Catesby Harrington was born on December 26, 1986 in London, into a distinguished family. His parents called him Keith from birth. Only at the age of 11 did the future actor learn that according to his documents his name was “Christopher”. Mom Deborah, a talented playwright, instilled in her son a love of theater. Dad David successfully developed his business.
Little Keith attended Southfield Primary School. In 1998, the family left London and moved to Worcester. The boy moved to Chantry School. He loved performing in school plays, but never seriously thought about an acting career. The production of Waiting for Godot made a huge impression on Christopher.
Young Harrington saw his future in journalism, cinematography or correspondent work. After school, he thought about it for several years, and as a result, he finally decided that he would become an actor. In 2005 he entered the prestigious London School of Performing and Dramatic Art. Keith's older brother, Jack, found himself in the fashion industry.
Christopher's debut took place on the stage of the Royal National Theater in 2008. Kit Harrington played Naracotta in the production of War Horse. Keith earned praise from critics for his performance in the role. The young actor was considered a rising star. Other performances followed, the most successful work being the performance in the play “Dude” in the role of Montgomery.
In 2010, Keith was cast for the film adaptation of the fantasy A Song of Ice and Fire. His first film role made him a world celebrity. The image of the illegitimate Jon Snow from the family of Lord Stark fell in love with the audience. A selfless bastard with a piercing gaze conquered girls from all over the world. It’s not surprising, because nobility is in Keith’s blood. The Harrington family tree dates back to the 16th century.
In 2012, he made his debut in a feature film, but the second part of the horror film “Silent Hill 2” was a fiasco. Harington was criticized for his unconvincing performance. In 2014, Keith starred in the historical dramas Pompeii and Memories of the Future. He was also invited to the fantastic film “The Seventh Son” directed by Bodrov Sr.
The audience admired Jon Snow, but did not want to accept the actor's other roles. Films with his participation were called insipid. Harrington was practically “branded” as a one-role actor. The comedy “7 Days in Hell” about the events of our day aroused the interest of the public and calmed the situation a little.
A flurry of negative reviews hit Keith with the release of the spy thriller Spooks: A Better Destiny (2015). Disappointed fans spoke out sharply: “Jon Snow can’t do anything!” The actor continued to work. He took part in the dubbing of the sequel to the film How to Train Your Dragon, and gave his voice to the cartoon character Eret.

Kit Harington became a major star when he co-starred in HBO's Game of Thrones, which premiered in 2011. Since then, he has been nominated for an Emmy Award and several SAG Awards. When he wasn't playing Jon Snow, Harington lent his voice to the character in How to Train Your Dragon 2, starred as a gladiator in the 2014 film Pompeii and appeared in the miniseries Gunpowder.
Even though Game of Thrones will air for the last time in April 2020, Harington's popularity likely won't diminish. He showcased his comedic talents in the audio for the next film, How to Train Your Dragon, and is currently playing the role of Austin in the British theater production of True West. In honor of the actor's 32nd birthday, check out five things you didn't know about him.

Harington didn't know his name was Christopher until he filled out test forms at school.
"I wrote 'Kit Harington,' and they [the teachers] looked at me like I was crazy and said, 'No, you look like Christopher Harington,'" Harington told Interview magazine. “Only then did I find out my real name.” It was kind of a weird existential crisis for an 11-year-old, but at the end of the day, I've always used Keith because that's how I feel. I'm not Chris."
2. His favorite book is “1984”

Harrington's favorite fictional character is Winston Smith, the protagonist of George Orwell's best-selling dystopian novel. The book was published in 1949.
3. If Harrington hadn't become an actor, he probably would have pursued a career in journalism or photography.

Harington told Esquire UK that he enjoyed "creative professions" but had also considered becoming a war correspondent.

The actor told Conde Nast Traveler that he used to enjoy flying on planes, but became afraid of flying after doing a lot of flying while filming Game of Thrones.
“I used to love it, but now I imagine myself at 9,000m,” he said. “Every time I fly, it seems to me that this position is unnatural.” I'm really nervous".
To cope with this, Harington always carries with him a “lucky hand”, which he has had since childhood, and performs a certain ritual.
“Every time I board a plane, I have to touch the outside of the plane with my handle three times before I board.”
5. Before he got his Game of Thrones role, Harington hated George R.R. Martin.

In England, he worked at Waterstones bookshop, and often had to carry novels by a popular author.
“I used to have to carry books, and George’s books always sold like hotcakes, so I constantly had to move them, and they were very heavy because they were so bulky,” the actor told Zap2it.
“I remember cursing him,” Harrington continued. “I told him this many times. I couldn't stand that I constantly had to carry and rearrange all these damn books. I stocked the shelves and they sold out in one day.”
Personal life of Kit Harrington
The details of the actor’s amorous adventures remained a mystery to fans for a long time. The tabloid media wrote about his affair with Emilia Clarke, his Game of Thrones co-star. They often appeared together at public events. They laughed off all questions: “We are just good friends, like everyone else in Westeros.”
The second contender for Jon Snow's girlfriend was Rose Leslie. She played the role of the savage Ygritte in the famous series. The actors were often seen together. The young people did not comment on the public’s assumptions. In April 2020, a long-awaited event occurred: the engagement of Rose Leslie and Keith Harrington. They have been dating for over 5 years.
Together with his girlfriend Rose, Keith purchased a house with a swimming pool and stables for $2.2 million. It is located in the eastern part of Great Britain. The couple comes there for the weekend. In London, the actors are not allowed to rest due to their busy schedules.

The British media got wind of the fact that the wedding will take place on this Saturday in June. The Game of Thrones stars decided to get married in the family castle of Rose Leslie in Scotland. Yes, not only does Kit Harington have very high origins (the actor is a descendant of King Charles II), but so does his fiancée.

Rose comes from the ancient Scottish clan Leslie, and is the great-granddaughter of Simon Fraser, Lord and Baron Lovat. Her ancestors include military and political figures. Their family, among other things, owns two family castles: Lickleyhead in Aberdeenshire, built in the 15th century, and Wardhill in Aberdeen, dating back to the 12th century.

Rose's parents provided her with Wardhill Castle as a venue for the celebration, which the family, scary to say, has owned for 900 years (the family lives in the second castle). This estate has everything you need for a ceremony. No one will disturb them - around the field and land. There are two ponds nearby. Plenty of space for a tent. There is also a church for weddings.
This castle is the best thing you can imagine for getting married. Rich and lucky people pay a lot of money to have a ceremony there - in recent years, the estate has been rented out specifically for weddings. And Rose herself grew up in this castle, so everything is symbolic.

Leslie’s neighbors, who have been watching the active preparations for the celebration for several days, let it slip that everything will take place here. In addition, the paparazzi have already caught the Game of Thrones actors at the local Aberdeen airport. Among them are Sophie Turner, Jack Donnelly, Malin Akerman, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage.

For the sake of this wedding, Keith, who continues to play Jon Snow, even asked the creators to pause the filming process for a while, because it was important to him that everyone he wanted to see at the wedding could come.

Latest news about Kit Harrington
The actor admitted that it was very difficult to get used to the fame that suddenly washed over him. It is difficult to force fans not to perceive him within one role. Keith intends to overcome the stereotype that has developed in the hearts of the audience. He managed to combine filming the sixth season of Game of Thrones with several major films. New films starring Keith Harrington include “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan” and “Underworld.”
Keith doesn't consider acting his only calling. Together with Dan West, he wrote three scripts for serial films. Two of them have already been sold. Dan is the actor’s best friend, whom he met in school for stage performances. Friends rented an apartment for two and created scripts. This is how their creative union developed. Today Keith plans to begin his producing career.
Kit Harington: “I’m the same as I was ten years ago, just a little bolder”
“Has such stunning success gone to his head?” — I thought on the way to meet Keith. But in life, the stern King of the North turned out to be not only a pleasant person to talk to, but also a gallant, incredibly charming man. It immediately became clear why the selective Italians Dolce & Gabbana invited him to become the face of the second fragrance of The One line - Gray.
ELLE After the collapse of fame, did any symptoms of star fever appear?
KEITH HARINGTON I was once given advice that still works: “Don’t try to be the best version of yourself.” Popularity hasn't changed me at all - I'm the same as I was ten years ago. Well, maybe he became a little bolder.
What do you think is why the series took off?
Everything is obvious - it appeared during the financial crisis, when people needed a break from the oppressive reality. And “Game of Thrones” became a breath of fresh air: it lured viewers into a fantasy world full of twists and turns. And it still doesn’t let go.
But nothing lasts forever—the final season is just around the corner. Are you sad?
Of course I'm a little upset that the show is ending. Imagine, I've been playing Jon Snow for seven years now. I’m very proud of this role and as an actor I gave myself completely to it. But when we filmed the last episodes, suddenly there was a lot of time. I'm free creatively, so now I can take on new projects.
Which ones have you already subscribed to?
Until the end of February, I'm busy with playwright Sam Shepard's play True West in London's West End. My colleague on stage is Johnny Flynn.
What is more difficult - theatrical performances or film roles?
It's definitely more difficult in the theater. Some performances were a real challenge for me. For example, the role of Doctor Faustus, which I played several years ago. This is a very deep and difficult character to understand. Unlike the same Jon Snow, with whom I almost became close. In general, acting in the theater is exhausting, often frightening, and you have to put a lot of effort into the role. But this only makes the work more exciting.
Have you always wanted to be an actor?
As a child, I thought about becoming a journalist or writer. I still write poetry. But I don’t show them to anyone - they are very personal. And I chose acting at the age of 15, after going to the theater with my mother, where I was touched to the depths of my soul. I wanted to learn how to delight the audience with my acting.
Do you know anything about Russian theater?
While studying at drama school, I had a summer internship at the Moscow Art Theater. I really enjoyed watching Russian actors, but I was especially captivated by Moscow - an incredible city with crazy architecture and spacious streets. What kind of metro do you have? You go there every day, but for me it was a real museum.
