Roza Syabitova defends the business reputation of her marriage agency In the Butyrsky Court of Moscow today a hearing was held on the lawsuit of the co-host of the TV program “Let's Get Married” Roza Syabitova against her former assistant Ivan Frolov and Express Gazeta. The plaintiff demands to recover 1 million rubles from the defendants and to refute the article in which Frolov spoke impartially about the activities of her marriage agency, as well as about her personal life.
Roza Syabitova came to today's court hearing in person. She did not hide her resentment towards her former manager and said that she did not understand why he slandered her. The plaintiff suggested that the scandalous interview was made by her former employee for self-PR purposes.
“I won’t allow him to promote himself! - the plaintiff was indignant. —This is not a reality show, this is real life, where there is a real judge, lawyers and everything else. Now the spotlights won’t turn off, we won’t turn off the sound and we won’t go home.”
Publication of discord The reason for Rozya Syabitova’s appeal to the court for the protection of honor and dignity was the article “Deceived brides sued Roza Syabitova” published on February 28 in Express Newspaper. The publication, with reference to an interview with Rosa Syabitova’s former nurse Ivan Irbis (real name Ivan Frolov), stated that the matchmaker’s marriage agency “Rosa Club” (Syabitova is its general director) did not actually search for grooms for its clients. In this regard, several clients allegedly even filed a lawsuit against Syabitova. The material also provided colorful details of the TV presenter’s personal life.
In a lawsuit filed in the Butyrsky Court of the capital, Roza Syabitova demanded to refute the widespread information, which, in her opinion, is not only untrue, but also undermines the business reputation of her company. The applicant assessed the moral damage caused at 2 million rubles and demanded to recover 1 million in compensation from each of the defendants.
During today's hearing, the plaintiff submitted the updated claims to the court. As Oleg Tsukanov, a lawyer representing Syabitova’s interests, told BFM.ru, at the request of the court, his client named specific expressions and phrases that cause damage to her honor, dignity and business reputation. Along with the lawsuit, a linguistic study of the publication was submitted to the court.
“The information that was disseminated by Irbis was conditionally divided into three categories by linguists. The first of them is openly negative information on 20 positions, which, in our opinion, is subject to refutation, since even linguistic experts came to this conclusion,” the lawyer said. — The second category is information that is subject to verification. Frolov and Express Gazeta will have to prove the accuracy of this information. And the third category is information that is based on rumors.”
According to the lawyer, the article is a “creative piece” that affected not only Syabitova’s personal life, but also her case. “Today, the defendant cannot name either the brides who filed the lawsuit, or the brides who were deceived,” Tsukanov emphasized. “The article does not contain a single name of a woman who could say anything negative about Syabitova.”
The defendants intend to bring in the deceived brides
However, lawyer Sergei Zhorin, representing the interests of Express Gazeta and Ivan Frolov, is ready to argue with this opinion. He stated to BFM.ru that the defendants do not recognize the claim and are ready to prove in the process that everything that was written is “the pure truth.” The lawyer noted that at the last court hearing, the defendants brought to court five witnesses at once - deceived brides. “The court refused to question them because it considered that the deceived brides had nothing to do with the article, even the title of which speaks specifically about them. This is, of course, very funny,” noted Zhorin.
He promised that at the next meeting, which will take place on September 23, the defendants will again bring even more deceived brides and will insist on interrogating them. “I made a public statement asking all cheated brides to contact me. As a result, 20 more girls wrote to me by email, enclosing contracts and receipts for payment for Syabitova’s services,” the lawyer said. According to Zhorin, most of those who applied did not want their names to become known to the general public, but there are also those among them who are ready to speak at the trial.
To be fair, it is worth noting that there were precedents when Roza Syabitova was brought to court by her client. At least one such case is known. So, in 2010, a certain Tatyana Malkova was suing the marriage agency Rozya Syabitova “Rosa Club” in the Lefortovo court of the capital. The woman complained that the matchmaker did not find her a groom, and demanded that the company recover material and moral damages in the amount of 112.5 thousand rubles from her. However, the court rejected the claim.
The TV presenter herself, leaving the court today, assured that despite the negative publication in Express Newspaper, she continues to work in the field of matchmaking. “I can assure my clients and my potential clients that I am working, have been working, and that everything is fine,” she said.
Future plans
Syabitova noted that she has been engaged in her activities for 20 years, and although she does not keep accurate records. According to the matchmaker, the 500th wedding she has arranged is “just around the corner.” “People stop me on the street and say, look - this is my son, he was born thanks to you and he is going to first grade. This is what is most valuable to a matchmaker,” the plaintiff noted.
Syabitova's lawyer said that he does not intend to stop at one trial. According to Oleg Tsuknov, he has already prepared and intends to file a similar claim against Express Gazeta on behalf of his trustee’s marriage agency in the near future in the capital’s arbitration court. There it is no longer Rosa Syabitova, but Rosa Club LLC that will defend its business reputation.
In addition, the TV presenter plans to prosecute her former assistant under the article “libel.” She has already written a corresponding statement to the Savelovsky police station, where a pre-investigation check is currently underway.
