Vladislav Yuryevich Kotlyarsky: biography, career and personal life

Biography

The performer of the role of the unbalanced Lieutenant Colonel Vladislav Kotlyarsky is associated primarily with the serial hero. Even Sergei Ursulyak mistook him for a real policeman. Another actor would consider this a compliment, but Vladislav is worried about becoming a hostage to one image. However, the artist has no desire to prove that he is capable of much more.

“I value this role very much. Even if nothing else happens in life, I will be satisfied. And if I were given a choice: to play Hamlet or Karpov, I would choose Karpov without hesitation. I don’t need Hamlet!”

And Kotlyarsky advises producers to watch him on the theater stage.

Childhood and youth

Vladislav was born on a warm summer day on August 2, 1972 in Moscow. The family had nothing to do with cinema, but Vlad was determined to become an artist from an early age. His parents did not approve of his choice; his father saw his son as a factory worker, although he himself worked in the Ministry of the Automotive Industry, and his mother also worked in the ministry, only in aviation. The actor has a half-brother Pavel, born in his father’s second marriage.

When the time came to enter university, Kotlyarsky applied to the theater school. But the future actor failed the exams, due to the lack of knowledge and basic experience in acting, which applicants receive in children's amateur clubs. The upset guy entered a prestigious educational institution - Moscow State University, the Faculty of Geology.

Although Vladislav was not famous for his good grades at school and preferred to sit back, he had enough knowledge to pass all the exams except mathematics. Kotlyarsky was helped with the exact science by his cousin, who took the future artist’s passport and went instead of him, despite the fact that the brothers look absolutely different.

The guy’s studies were not inspiring, and after 2 years Vladislav left the university and went back to the theater. Once again he was refused, then Kotlyarsky returned to Moscow State University again, but to the Faculty of Psychology. Finally, in 1998, the young man managed to enter the Russian Academy of Theater Arts in the directing department of Andrei Goncharov, where the competition was much smaller. After 1.5 years he transferred to the acting group.

After graduation, Kotlyarsky became an artist of the theater troupe “At the Nikitsky Gate”. The roles in the plays that he played on stage seemed insignificant to him, while the actor’s ambitions required something more. He changed his place of work to the Art House Theater, but even there he continued to be haunted by a feeling of dissatisfaction.

At one time, Kotlyarsky even thought about changing his profession and starting a business with his friends, despite the crisis. Everything changed when Vladislav found his niche in Russian cinema.

Vladislav and Victoria Kotlyarsky. Imperfect marriage

After Karpov, the most important event in my life was my marriage to Vika and the birth of my daughter Elina. Actually, filming the series turned out to be fateful - it was there that I met my future wife.

Interviewed by Ekaterina Boyko

Vlad: We met Vika when we were working on one of the last episodes of the first season, I even remember the exact date - August 1, 2012, on the eve of my birthday. I saw an attractive girl on the site and began to do everything to make her pay attention to me. It was possible because she agreed to go to the restaurant. Vika is an actress, in “Karpov” she played a small but very important role. Prostitutes, of course. Who else could a beautiful girl be in this series?

Vika: He always talks about it with such pleasure! Of course, this was not how I dreamed of starting my career; I thought playing a prostitute was somehow low, so I refused for a long time. In the end, after thinking everything over, I decided to come to the shooting. By the way, I didn’t know anything about the series “Karpov”. I heard about “Glukhar”, which was breaking television ratings, but I didn’t have time to watch it; at that moment I was studying at the institute. I also didn’t know who Vladislav Kotlyarsky was or what he looked like, so initially he didn’t make any impression on me. Moreover, I was sure that the person who was looking at me so intently was the lighting designer on set. I also thought: “Wow, what a bastard!” And she agreed to go with him only because he asked him to help him choose a restaurant to celebrate his birthday.

Vladislav is wearing: Banana Republic jacket, T-shirt and trousers, Premiata sneakers

Vlad: Yes, I'm resourceful! This is the clever way to drag the girl you like into a restaurant.

Vika: This is where our communication ended. That is, they played a scene together, had lunch and went in different directions. And to be honest, I didn’t plan to continue our acquaintance if it weren’t for the persistence of Vlad, who constantly called and asked for dates. After two weeks I finally gave up. He looked after me beautifully - gave flowers, said compliments... Although the person is completely unromantic, I understand this now. At that time, all this was not very interesting to me, which was precisely what attracted him. A couple of months later we went on vacation together. The story seems banal, but it seems to me that in this banality there is happiness.

— You had a huge number of fans. Why did they seek Vicky’s attention with such enthusiasm?

Vlad: Well, this is nature! It seems to me that the main characteristic of a real man is to be a hunter. That is, we see “prey”, we track it down and strive to get it by any means. But when a woman starts hunting, it’s scary. At least, it definitely repulsed me. It’s true about the huge number of fans. I can remember a million stories when I literally had to get away from being chased. Some followed me after the performance and rushed after my car. After a while I started taking a taxi, but that didn’t really help. But I’m Karpov: in collusion with a taxi driver, I evaded prosecution. Particularly devoted fans found out where I lived and stood guard under the door of the apartment. This is one of the reasons why I had to move to rented housing.

But there is a story that pleasantly surprised me. I was leaving the apartment one day and there was a couple at the doorstep - a husband and wife, quite decent people. The woman started the conversation:

— Hello, Vladislav. We are waiting for you.

- Something happened?

“The fact is that our daughter is eager to meet you.” She’s embarrassed to come up on her own, but this is her biggest dream.

I look and understand: sane, well-mannered people simply came in the hope of making their child’s dream come true. I couldn’t refuse, I invited the girl to the filming, she’s even an extra in the TV series “Capercaillie.” But this is an isolated case. I am very respectful of my fans, but pushiness can be very annoying.

— Vika, weren’t you scared by Vladislav’s success with women?

Vika: I didn’t scare you, and everything was fine until they started writing unpleasant messages on social networks. Nowadays this rarely happens, but at first I was literally inundated with threatening messages. Okay, they wrote that I was not a match for Kotlyarsky, I took away the love of their life - this can be understood, but when insults were used... If I complained to Vlad, he answered: “You should be above this.” Over time, I got used to it and began to treat attacks with humor. Well, how can you take seriously a person who doesn’t know me at all and writes: “Die, you creature!”?

Vlad: In fact, these are just mentally unbalanced people. Now I’m only talking about those who write nasty things. It is useless to talk to them or explain anything. I had a fan who behaved more than strangely. One day he comes up after a performance and asks:

- What's wrong?

- And what is wrong?

- What's wrong?!

- What’s wrong?!

- Why don’t you marry me! What's wrong? I’ve been writing to you for six months now!

She didn't just write for six months. I received two messages per minute! I got five hundred thousand messages from her. Five hundred thousand! I gladly accept messages from fans and viewers, even if they criticize. But when a person has such mental problems, one can only sympathize. By the way, other fans saved me from this annoying young lady. I already knew what she looked like. And so I go to the car after the performance - it’s worth it! Trying not to pay attention to her, I open the door to get in, but she performs the same manipulations at the speed of a sprinter, lands on the passenger seat and commands:

- Go!

Ask:

- Please leave, we are not going anywhere.

She continues to sit. I’m still a man, I can’t drag a woman out of a car by her hair. But at the same time cunning! I think: I’ll go out now, she’ll follow me, and I’ll lure her out. No such luck - he’s sitting!

Fortunately, other fans observed this picture. They quickly dealt with her and pulled her out of the car. True, she did not calm down immediately, she tried to block the passage. But they talked some sense into her.

- So Vika was completely different?..

Vlad: Yes, she had to be conquered. And even when this finally happened, not everything in our lives ran smoothly. We are not such a happy and ideal couple as it might seem at first glance. There were some difficulties. They separated several times, and for a long period. We didn’t communicate at all for six months - now I don’t even remember why. I think in the end I just matured and realized that relationships are something different than what I pictured for myself. There are some romantic ideas about falling in love, about how everything should look. For example, that true love is an extravaganza and a continuous holiday.

On Victoria: cardigan, T-shirt and Cop skirt. Copine, Premiata sneakers, Benetton necklace; on Vladislav: bomber jacket, T-shirt and Benetton joggers

I was somewhat childish in my fantasies, but was faced with normal human life. And one day it seemed to me that our relationship had become somehow ordinary and that something was missing in it. “Everything should be different!” - I thought, and it was a mistake. Thank God, not fatal. Only recently I realized that simple human happiness does not lie in stunningly romantic dates. Naturally, at first we all experience strong emotions, but they cannot boil constantly. Then a normal, calm life begins. This is where happiness lies. By the way, children help us better understand this simple truth.

Vika: We just met on and off for four years. They didn’t live in the same apartment, but they spent almost all their time together. I respected Vlad’s freedom, he respected mine. There was no such thing as frying chicken together in the kitchen.

On Victoria: Benetton shirtdress, Cop T-shirt. Copine

Vlad: It’s true that we didn’t fry the chicken together, but I suddenly remembered how Vika cooked carbonara pasta for me for the first time.

Vika: I will remember this pasta all my life!

Vlad: I ask her:

— Vic, can you cook?

- Yes! - answers. “I’m a master cook, I have a black belt in pasta.”

I cooked it... It was something terrible. Maybe, of course, because I ate them three hours later? Seriously, Vika is a really great cook and I like everything. But although the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, before going to the registry office we broke up four times. Therefore, I can say with confidence: our marriage is an absolutely conscious step. Everything happened when both were ready for it.

At the last breakup, Vika said: “If you want to come to me, only with serious intentions. If you don’t have them, don’t worry.” I left and didn’t bother her for a year. Well, I didn’t bother you... Periodically I wrote some messages on social networks. That is, it bothered me, but not much. He didn’t appear in line of sight, but not a day went by without thinking about Vic. I remembered every day! I didn’t hide it, all my friends knew. But I still endured it for a year until I realized that I couldn’t live without her. And I decided to return.

I did it in an original way. While we weren't seeing each other, I continued to keep in touch with her close friend. Once I gave her two tickets to Zemfira’s concert in the hope that she would take Vika with her: we both love this singer very much. Naturally, I also bought a ticket for myself. It was at a concert that took place on April 1st that we “accidentally” met. Since then, with the exception of tours, we have not separated.

Movies

Vladislav Kotlyarsky began his path to fame in 2002 with a small role as an emergency doctor in the unremarkable TV series “Russian Amazons.” They were in no hurry to call the RATI student for serious roles in films, preferring to use his artistic abilities in episodes. He appeared in the TV series “Penal Battalion”, “Doctor Zhivago”, “Airport”, “Firefighters”.

On vacation in Crimea, Vladislav played the role of a classic Odessa impresario in Alexander Stefanovich’s film about Alla Pugacheva “Courage”, and turned into a plumber in the melodrama “The General’s Granddaughter” with Alexander Porokhovshchikov and Irina Apeksimova.

Gradually, the number of films with Vladimir’s participation increased, making his acting resume more solid. The roles of a security guard, battalion commander, collector, and even a police captain appeared on his track record, giving the artist a stable role as a law enforcement officer.

When Kotlyarsky was invited to play the role of Major Karpov in the television series "Capercaillie", he had a dozen images of police officers behind him. At first, Vladislav even refused to participate in the project. The actor was offered two roles to choose from: Karpov, who was part of the main plot, and the episodic role of a swindler, who, as planned by the scriptwriters, was supposed to steal a passport from a traffic police representative. Kotlyarsky wanted to choose a swindler, but the director of the film, Timur Alpatov, insisted on the role of the major and was right.

The series starred Maxim Averin, Victoria Tarasova, Denis Rozhkov, Maria Boltneva. The role turned out to be difficult; the character was the complete opposite of the actor’s character. To authentically play Karpov, the artist plunged headlong into the life of a policeman for some time: together with real law enforcement officers, he went on interrogations and duty, and caught villains.

By the way, the skills he acquired came in handy not only on the set: during the New Year’s rush, a couple of guys stole documents from Vladislav, but thanks to long-term work with the police, the artist managed to return the property and independently detain the criminals.

The image of Major Stanislav Karpov was extremely popular among television viewers after he appeared in several episodes of the series in 2008. In the next season, he already became a regular character in the film, and 4 years later he was awarded his own television project under the same name “Karpov”, in which, in addition to Kotlyarsky, Victoria Tarasova, Yulia Mayboroda, Maxim Shchegolev and others starred. This character also appeared in the series “Pyatnitsky”.

The directors of the popular TV series “Cop in Law” invited Vladislav to play the main role in a series dedicated to a kind of Robin Hood. It would be a sin to refuse a project in which the artist was offered 9 images at once, said Kotlyarsky.

In 2020, the man admitted in an interview that he does not act anywhere, although he regularly attends castings. To some extent, he is even glad that he is not taken. According to Vlad, after the role of Karpov, he cannot afford to act in a sitcom. When asked whether Karpov’s role could be considered a model, Kotlyarsky replied that he once met Sergei Yursky in a restaurant, and he called the role of the former head of the police department “great.”

And yet, Kotlyarsky had one role in 2020: he starred in the short film “Just a Game,” where a computer “shooter” turns into reality.

In the same year, the film “Reverse” with the participation of Vladislav Kotlyarsky was launched into production. The project, announced as a mystical film about time travel, has not yet come to its logical conclusion.

Filmography

Kotlyarsky’s film debut took place in 2002, when he played the role of an emergency doctor in the Russian TV series “Russian Amazons”. Afterwards there were several more episodic characters in such popular TV series as “Doctor Zhivago”, “Penal Battalion”, “Firefighters”, “Airport”, “The General’s Granddaughter”, “Courage”. So his filmography was regularly replenished, but the main roles were still not expected.

Later he was invited to the cult TV series “Capercaillie”, but Vladislav stubbornly refused. His track record already included many police roles; he didn’t see anything special in the image of an aggressive major. And yet the director insisted and made the right decision. Stas Karpov was so loved by the audience that an offshoot of the series was created called “Karpov”. He didn't wear a police uniform, but he represented the law until he lost his temper. His character was demoted, and this is where Karpov appears in a new image.

Personal life

Vladislav Kotlyarsky talks very little about his personal life. After filming the role of Stanislav Karpov, he gained numerous fans who associated the actor with his on-screen image. The status of an enviable bachelor did not give the girls peace, and they tried to attract the artist’s attention by any means. Vlad had to hide in a taxi, like in a movie, and then rent an apartment in another area.

Vladislav Kotlyarsky and Victoria Tarasova

The media reported that the former lover broke the actor's heart by committing treason. After that, Vladislav didn’t even want to think about a new relationship. Against this background, he began to be credited with an affair with actress Victoria Tarasova, who played Irina Zimina in the TV series “Capercaillie” and “Karpov.”

Tarasova, the tabloids wrote, could be an excellent match for Kotlyarsky, because she is divorced and has also faced betrayal from loved ones in her life. Be that as it may, the on-screen friendship between the characters in the series did not develop into anything serious in life.

Elena Morozova and Vladislav Kotlyarsky

In 2012, there was a rumor about the imminent marriage of Vladislav Kotlyarsky to Elena Morozova, a shocking actress who changed her first, patronymic and last name in honor of a distant relative of Savva Morozov. But, judging by further events in the life of Kotlyarsky, who remained a bachelor, the rumor again had no basis. And the two actors have a friendly relationship.

Later, the media caught on to Kotlyarsky’s appearance with the young actress Victoria Boldyreva, who starred in the TV series “Soldiers”, “Students” and in the episode “Karpov”. The actor appeared together with a girl at the awards ceremony of the Association of Television Film Producers. Rumors immediately spread about a romance between the then 40-year-old Kotlyarsky and the 26-year-old Boldyreva, who communicated warmly throughout the evening.

In the winter of 2020, the artists entered into an official marriage. Before deciding to take this step, Vika and Vladislav met and diverged more than once, and the man took the blame for the problems upon himself, because sometimes he acted wrongly.

“It is natural that at first we all experience strong emotions, but they cannot boil constantly. Then a normal, calm life begins. This is where happiness lies. By the way, children help us better understand this simple truth.”

Vladislav Kotlyarsky with his wife and daughter
Soon a daughter, Elina, appeared in the family. Marriage and the birth of a child are the main events in Kotlyarsky’s life, but in second place after “Karpov”.

Vladislav is a passionate person who is no stranger to windsurfing and snowboarding, paragliding, and skiing. Kotlyarsky is not the tallest for a man at 176 cm, but this did not stop him from playing hockey as a defenseman in the KomAr artistic team. I had to give up my hobby due to a knee injury.

In his youth, a business streak awoke in the actor: Vlad worked as a personal driver for a German businessman and received his salary in foreign currency. Together with friends, he sold books and magazines in passages. Now Kotlyarsky has gone into the IT business, and has come up with a program for those who spend days on the Internet and are unable to limit virtual communication. Vladislav himself said that he uses Facebook; on Instagram, photos of the actor are published on fan pages.

In Kotlyarsky’s creative biography, there was a place for his youthful passion for psychology: the artist entered the master’s program and even receives a scholarship.

Karpov forever

The actor first appeared on the set in 2002. He was invited to play episodic roles in the projects “Russian Amazons” and “Russians in the City of Angels.” This was followed by several more episodes in little-known films - and again a blind corner.

Disillusioned with his profession, Vladislav Kotlyarsky was about to go into business, but then fate wanted to sweeten the pill - the actor was invited to the Kulagin and Partners project. This series was followed by filming in:

  • "Detectives";
  • "Judicial Column";
  • "Volkov's Hour";
  • "Penal battalion";
  • "Firefighters";
  • "Doctor Zhivago."

In the growing series Capercaillie, Kotlyarsky was invited to play a small role as one of the policemen. The audience and the creators of the project liked the actor’s performance so much that they decided to make his hero Stas Karpov one of the permanent characters. In the second and third seasons this was already one of the main roles.

To get used to this role, the actor spent some time going to arrests with real police officers, being present during interrogations, and studying protocols. The skills he observed were useful to Kotlyarsky not only on the set. When one day thieves tried to steal documents from him, he independently detained and brought the criminals to the police station.

In the image of Stas Karpov, who became dear to the actor, Kotlyarsky continued to act even after the end of “Capercaillie”; there was a place for this character in film scripts:

  • “Caercaillie. Come, New Year";
  • "The Capercaillie in the Cinema";
  • “Caercaillie. New again."

He was one of the main figures in the series “Pyatnitsky”. The character of Vladislav Kotlyarsky was so loved by the audience that the producers decided to film a separate series telling about the life and work of this police officer. As a result, three seasons of “Karpov” were filmed.

The actor is constantly surrounded by crowds of fans, writing letters to him, standing under the windows of his apartment, giving him flowers. But he continues to live alone. Sighing sadly, Kotlyarsky tells reporters that young ladies lose interest in him when they find out that in ordinary life he is not at all like Stas Karpov.

Some media outlets attributed the actor with an affair with Victoria Tarasova, his partner in “Capercaillie,” but Kotlyarsky asked journalists not to mix work with personal life.

When things didn’t work out with Tarasova, journalists began to match the actor with Victoria Boldyreva. They were prompted to such conclusions by the joint appearance of two actors at one of the film awards ceremony. But this “love story” was not continued. However, the actor believes that he will still meet a good woman in this life.

Remaining an eligible bachelor, Vladislav Kotlyarsky devotes a lot of time to his hobbies. He plays hockey for the KomAr artistic team, flies paragliding, snowboards in winter, and prefers windsurfing in summer. The actor feels confident behind the wheel of any car, and in his SUV he is ready to go even on risky expeditions. Kotlyarsky is a passionate football fan and is friends with the goalkeeper of CSKA Moscow and the national team, Igor Akinfeev.

In order not to become an actor of one role, Vladislav Kotlyarsky takes part in other projects.

He starred in Courage, where he played the role of an impresario, and became a plumber in The Elder Daughter. Having gone beyond a police officer in these films, he received an invitation to the main role of Arseny Feltsov in “Clean Water at the Source.” In the near future, the actor should appear on screens in the project “Bailiffs,” which is still in production.

Vladislav Kotlyarsky now

In 2020, the short film “Civilized People” with the participation of Vladislav was awarded the “Silver Jean-Luc” prize at the international film festival “Kinolikbez”. This award goes to projects that most closely meet the requirements of experimental, avant-garde auteur cinema. The awards are named after films by Jean-Luc Godard, and Civilized Men received the Special Gang prize.

The detective drama “Bailiffs” is again dedicated to the work of law enforcement agencies, this time to bailiffs. As in "Glukhara", the characters in the film understand that the law is not always fair, and help those involved in cases to find a way out of a difficult situation. Vladislav’s partners in the film were Alexey Chadov and Natalia Antonova.

The next film in Kotlyarsky’s filmography appeared in 2019. This is the series “SMERSH” directed by Oleg Fomin. In addition to Vladislav, the acting ensemble included Alexey Makarov, Mikhail Dorozhkin, Svetlana Stepankovskaya. The plot centers on a state security officer transporting a shipment of emeralds from Germany to the Soviet Union.

Fans of theatrical art will delight in the play “Dangerous Boys.” Together with his colleagues from “Glukhar” Vladimir Feklenko and Alexander Bobrov, they play the roles of brothers, one of whom wants to adopt a child from an orphanage, and the dark past of the other two prevents this.

The same trio of friends are involved in the play “Egoists” with an age limit of 16+. In the project of the production center of Vladimir Smolkin “I Hate. Zhanna” Vladislav and Victoria Tarasova play spouses. The husband is an official whose personal interests and financial gain from scams come first. His wife tolerates his lies and betrayals.
