In 2011, the actress received offers to star in one of the main roles in the teenage mystical television series “Teen Wolf” (another name is “Werewolf”). The girl got the role of Allison Snuppy Argent, an archer, gymnast and hereditary hunter, with whom a werewolf falls in love. The same year, Reed starred in the horror film Taken, playing a modest schoolgirl named Bess, who has long been in love with the main character Scott (Lucas Till). Crystal Reed in the film “Obsessed” Even before filming began on the 3rd season of the acclaimed series about werewolves, Reed decided to try herself in other roles. She approached the series' executive producer, Jeff Davis. He talked to the writers, and they included changes in the plot of the series. So in March 2014, Reed left the series - according to the plot, her character Allison died saving Isaac (Daniel Sharman) from Oni (Craig Heningsen). Crystal's next work was the leading role in Dennis Hauck's thriller "Too Late", which did not gain much success, although it received good ratings from critics and viewers.

Crystal Reed left the series "Teen Wolf" because she did not want to be a hostage to one role

In February 2020, the actress reappeared in the TV series Teen Wolf, but not as Allison, but as Marie-Jen Valet (Maiden of Gevaudan), the very first huntress from the Argents. The creators of the series explained the complete similarity of the heroines by the fact that Marie-Jen is the ancestor of Allison Argent.

The Art of Dance by Crystal Pite

Scene from the song “A Picture of You Falling”. Photo - Todd Rosenberg In the winter series of the anniversary, fortieth season of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, there are three compositions by choreographer Crystal Pite.

Crystal Pite is one of the biggest names in contemporary dance. She was born on December 15, 1970 in Terrace (accent on the first syllable, a city in the Canadian province of British Columbia). From the age of eighteen she performed with the British Columbia Ballet. There, in 1990, she made her debut as a choreographer. In 1996, a new period began in Pite’s life. She moved to Germany and became a member of William Forsyth's Frankfurt Ballet. The list of ballet companies with which Pite has collaborated is impressive: Netherlands Dance Theater, Swedish Dance Company Cullberg, National Ballet of Canada, Jazz Ballet of Montreal, Cedar Lake Company, Alberta Ballet, Jorgen Ballet. In 2001, Pite founded Kidd Pivot, where she works as a choreographer and dancer. The troupe actively tours around the world. Since 2010, Kidd Pivot has received permanent residence in Frankfurt am Main, becoming a resident of the Mousonturm Art House.

Piet is a guest choreographer at the Netherlands Dance Theater and a guest artist at the Ottawa National Arts Centre. Her work has received numerous prizes and awards at international ballet festivals. In 2011, Pite became a recipient of the Benois de la Dance prize, and in 2020 she became a laureate. In 2015, Pite was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for Excellence in Dance.

We've seen some of Crystal Pite's work in past years. In 2009, on tour in Chicago, the Netherlands Dance Theater showed her ballet “The Second Person” (2007), a parable about a dream coming true. Remember? Twenty-four ballerinas, dressed in men's suits and formal glasses, brought to life a doll lying in the center of the stage and danced with it.

In 2020, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago presented the American premiere of the ballet “Solo Echo” to the music of J. Brahms. The ballet was created based on Mark Strand's poem “Lines for Winter” especially for the Netherlands Dance Theater. Pite says: “The person in this ballet looks at himself from the outside. His character is portrayed by seven different dancers through both male and female bodies. Each performer shows certain nuances of character.”

A few words about the program.

The eighteen-minute composition “A Picture of You Falling” explores differences between cultures and generations through body language. Pite demonstrates how the simplest gestures can convey deep meaning and allow us to recognize ourselves in others. The composition premiered at the Canadian Dance Festival in 2008. Performers: Kidd Pivot artists. Elements of dance were used by Pite in the composition “Second Man”. “A Picture of You Falling” features music by Owen Belton and lyrics by Pite performed by actress Kate Strong. Fragments of the composition were first performed by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago in March 2014.

The duet “The Other You” shows contrasting images of man and beast, raising questions of domination and submission, love, loss and loneliness. Crystal Pite is passionate about history. She connects different time layers, flies from one space to another, and uses the bodies of dancers as an object. The audience is drawn into the dance: Pite invites the audience to join in the play, to tell their own stories and dramas through physical body language. The duet “The Other You” was first produced by Kidd Pivot in 2010 as part of “The You Show”. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago premiere.

The composition “Grace Engine” is a multimedia project in which video projections are an integral part of the performance. Owen Belton's electronic music and dramatic lighting highlight the tension of the dance.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago artistic director Glenn Edgerton is optimistic: “Crystal Pite is a visionary. She is the person who moves our company forward. Her sense of creativity brings a new perspective to the art of dance.”

Let me remind you that each season Hubbard Street Dance Chicago presents four programs - each named after a season. On March 23-24, 2020, for the first time in twenty years, the troupe will perform in the cozy Auditorium Theater. The program includes old compositions by resident choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo and the world premiere of his new work.

From June 7 to June 10, 2020, the Harris Theater will host the troupe's summer series of performances. We will see the ballet “Minus 16” by the artistic director of the Batsheva ballet ensemble, Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin – one of his most popular works. The ballet was created in 1999 and was first performed by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago in 2000.

Throughout the season, the Dance Institute at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (Professional Development Institute) conducts seminars, lectures, master classes for dancers and choreographers, and classes for improving ballet skills. Excerpt characterizing Reed, Crystal

“You have 43 thousand behind you, Count,” said Dolokhov and stood up from the table, stretching. “But you get tired of sitting for so long,” he said. “Yes, I’m tired too,” said Rostov. Dolokhov, as if reminding him that it was indecent for him to joke, interrupted him: When will you order the money, Count? Rostov flushed and called Dolokhov into another room. “I can’t suddenly pay everything, you’ll take the bill,” he said. “Listen, Rostov,” said Dolokhov, smiling clearly and looking into Nikolai’s eyes, “you know the saying: “Happy in love, unhappy in cards.” Your cousin is in love with you. I know. "ABOUT! it’s terrible to feel so in the power of this man,” thought Rostov. Rostov understood what blow he would deal to his father and mother by announcing this loss; he understood what happiness it would be to get rid of all this, and he understood that Dolokhov knew that he could save him from this shame and grief, and now he still wanted to play with him, like a cat with a mouse. “Your cousin...” Dolokhov wanted to say; but Nikolai interrupted him. “My cousin has nothing to do with it, and there is nothing to talk about her!” - he shouted furiously. - So when can I get it? – asked Dolokhov. “Tomorrow,” said Rostov, and left the room. It was not difficult to say “tomorrow” and maintain a tone of decency; but to come home alone, to see your sisters, brother, mother, father, to confess and ask for money to which you have no right after your word of honor was given. We weren't sleeping at home yet. The youth of the Rostov house, having returned from the theater, having had dinner, sat at the clavichord. As soon as Nikolai entered the hall, he was overwhelmed by that loving, poetic atmosphere that reigned in their house that winter and which now, after Dolokhov’s proposal and Iogel’s ball, seemed to thicken even more, like the air before a thunderstorm, over Sonya and Natasha. Sonya and Natasha, in the blue dresses they wore at the theater, pretty and knowing it, happy, smiling, stood at the clavichord. Vera and Shinshin were playing chess in the living room. The old countess, waiting for her son and husband, was playing solitaire with an old noblewoman who lived in their house. Denisov, with shining eyes and tousled hair, sat with his leg thrown back at the clavichord, clapping them with his short fingers, striking chords, and rolling his eyes, in his small, hoarse, but faithful voice, sang the poem he had composed, “The Sorceress,” to which he was trying to find music. Sorceress, tell me what force draws me to the abandoned strings; What fire did you plant in your heart, what delight spread through your fingers!
