Larisa Malevannaya in 2020
The main premiere of the year in the artist’s filmography was the screening of the historical film “Union of Salvation.” The film is dedicated to a secret political society, whose members became participants in the 1825 uprising. The film brought together a galaxy of Russian cinema stars: Leonid Bichevin, Maxim Matveev, Pavel Priluchny, Ivan Yankovsky, Anton Shagin and others.

Opening your own theater

In 1984, Larisa Ivanovna returned to the institute, which she herself graduated from. She works as an assistant professor in the acting department. In 1985, Larisa Ivanovna Malevannaya received the honorary title - People's Artist of the RSFSR. And four years later she graduates her own acting course. Malevanna had such a warm relationship with the students that when they offered to organize their own theater, she could not refuse them. So Larisa Ivanovna became the head of the Drama Theater on Vasilyevsky Island and worked here for five years.

Film roles

The actress gained enormous fame after the release of Todorovsky’s film “Intergirl”. In the film, Larisa Malevannaya played the role of a teacher - the mother of the prostitute Tanya. Malevannaya's participation in the filming of this film was received ambiguously. In addition to delight, the actress also had to endure impartial, rude comments. Despite the fact that the role played by Larisa Ivanovna was positive, many viewers condemned her. The actress admits that participation in this film helped her reconsider her own views on life and become more tolerant of people.

In 1999, Larisa Ivanovna became a laureate of the Petropol art prize for achievements in art and culture. Collaboration with Pyotr Efimovich Todorovsky continued on the set of the film “Anchor, More Anchor.” In this film, Malevannaya talentedly played the tragic role of the abandoned general’s wife. Then, after almost a ten-year break, Larisa Ivanovna flashed a bright role in the TV series “Black Raven”. In the multi-part television film based on Dostoevsky “The Idiot” by Vladimir Bortko in 2003 she appeared in the role of Nina Alexandrovna. In the 2000s, Malevannaya came to St. Petersburg to accept Larisa Gergieva’s offer and teach acting at the Academy of Young Singers. During the same period, the artist was awarded the Pushkin Medal and also became a laureate of the Tsarskoye Selo Art Prize.

Movies

In the first film, the melodrama “On the Wedding Day” by Vadim Mikhailov, Malevannaya played the main character, a strong-willed woman who is trying to arrange her personal life. Interestingly, not all scenes made it into the final film. At the insistence of the artistic council, footage was cut out in which the bride, abandoned on her wedding day, breaks bottles from the festive table in despair.

Larisa Malevannaya as Alla Sergeevna (still from the film “Intergirl”)

In 1970, the actress brought to life the image of the revolutionary Commissar Maria in the film “Call the Hurricane Maria.” A tall, slender woman (Larissa’s height is 173 cm) managed to organically fit into the image depicted.

The 1970s–1980s became stellar years for the actress. Larisa Malevannaya played poignant, complex, multifaceted characters in the films “Allow Takeoff!”, “Behind the Clouds is the Sky,” “There, Beyond the Horizon” and “The Only One.” Larisa Malevannaya’s heroines Vera Ivanovna in the film “Late Dates” and Sofya Andreevna in “Teenager” still serve as a standard of excellence for current students of theater universities.

Larisa Malevannaya (still from the series “Personal Space”)

The projects that brought Larisa Malevanna real fame are the films of Pyotr Todorovsky. The intelligent teacher Alla Sergeevna, Tanya’s mother in “Intergirl” and the tragic role of the abandoned general’s wife in the film “Anchor, more Anchor!” - this is real gold in the actress’s creative baggage.

Critics and viewers call Malevanna’s roles in the TV series “Black Raven” and “Idiot” talented and impeccably played. These films were released at the beginning of the new century. After filming the black comedy “Decent People” and the crime melodrama “Our Happy Tomorrow,” Malevannaya began working on a new project, the melodrama “Personal Space,” where she appeared as the mother of the main character, Professor Koloskov (Yuri Baturin).

Theatrical life of an actress

In 2007, the famous actress and director Larisa Malevannaya left the walls of the BDT. By this time, a kind of stagnation had continued in Malevannaya’s theatrical life for several years - no roles were given, and the actress had already devoted more than thirty years to this theater. After parting with the Bolshoi Drama Theater, Larisa Ivanovna left for Krasnoyarsk to brilliantly and happily play “The Strange Mrs. Savage” at the local Youth Theater. And a year later the artist was invited to the Krasnodar Municipal Youth Theater. On the stage of this theater, Malevannaya staged such performances as “The Doll” based on Arkady Averchenko’s “The Patron’s Joke”, as well as “The Eternal Husband” by Dostoevsky and “Freaks” by Shukshin. The production of “The Doll” was awarded first prize at the prestigious Kuban Theater festival.

At the Bolshoi Drama Theater, Malevanna was immediately entrusted with the main role, and then she was one of the favorite actresses of director Georgy Tovstonogov, who entrusted her with the most important roles.

In this theater, the actress had the opportunity to work together with such outstanding artists as Kirill Lavrov, Evgeny Lebedev, Oleg Borisov, who greatly helped her get used to her new place of work. She starred in common films with Borisov more than once and played in the same performances.

The year eighty-eight became significant in the creative biography of Larisa Malevanna, when she was the director of the theater that she created together with her students, and Larisa Ivanovna held this position for five years. These years were some of the most difficult in Malevanna’s career, and today Larisa Ivanovna calls the idea of creating a theater her big mistake.

Nevertheless, thanks to this, in the difficult nineties, the theater helped many young artists, who then found it difficult to find work, survive.

After leaving the Bolshoi in 2007, where the actress had been little involved in recent years, Vyacheslav Pinchuk, with whom she studied at the pedagogical institute, invited her to work at the Krasnodar Youth Theater. Malevannaya staged several performances in this theater, and she had the best memories of working there.

After working in that theater for three years, she returned to St. Petersburg again.
