Polina Filonenko was born on the outskirts of the northern capital into a family of factory workers.
The girl grew up very pretty and her parents sent her to the theater department of the Okhta Center for Humanitarian and Aesthetic Education. Here, in parallel with her studies at school, she learned the basics of acting for seven years. By the end of school, Polina had confirmed her intention to become an actress. But already in her fourth year at the institute, the aspiring actress had luck in cinema - she took her photographs to Lenfilm, and two weeks later they called her and invited her to audition for two films at once: “Crime and Punishment” based on Dostoevsky and “Yar” based on Sergei Yesenin.

Polina Filonenko accepted the invitation to audition for “Crime and Punishment” with delight. However, the girl didn’t really believe that she would be approved for such a serious role. But director Dmitry Svetozarov, already at the first meeting, saw in the actress what he was looking for - the image of a modest, slightly timid girl with a meek expression and blue eyes. The real Sonechka Marmeladova! Polina auditioned in tandem with actor Vladimir Koshev, and both of them were approved.

Polina Filonenko admits that the image of Sonya is very close to her: “This is a difficult role, but I can’t say that I can’t resist it. At that time, Sonya was especially close to me. I am a believer, although not to the same extent as Sonya, I don’t know prayers, but I believe in God, and I don’t understand atheists like Raskolnikov. Her role as the rebel Katya in Valeria Gai-Germanika’s film “Everyone Will Die, But I’ll Stay” made her an idol for teenagers. The film was successfully shown at international festivals in Cannes and Munich. And at the European Film Festival in Brussels, Polina Filonenko, together with her co-stars Agniya Kuznetsova and Olga Shuvalova, was awarded the Prize for Best Actress.

At the beginning of her career, Polina categorically refused offers of work in TV series. True, I later realized that there are good films among them. Her work in the 12-episode film “I’ll Be Back,” which tells the story of the fate of the three Rostopchin sisters during the Great Patriotic War, turned out to be successful. We were all covered in dirt, but they were clean, I felt terrible there: there was forest everywhere, there was nowhere to go. Once I saw soldiers walking past, apparently they had a military unit nearby, and I was so happy, I thought: “Russians!!!” It felt like everything was real.”

In 2009, Olympius Inferno was released, a film about the war in South Ossetia. Filming took place in Abkhazia, with the participation of people who survived their war. “You can’t beat them,” says Polina.

With a challenge I don't have a specific clothing style. I dress comfortably for filming: sneakers, trousers, jacket. I love high heels. I was a rapper at school. Then we had a very fashionable “Baltic Clan” - St. Petersburg musicians. Now all this is not very interesting, but then it was kitsch, a challenge. I went to school with my pants lowered, so that half of my butt was visible, and my jacket was short. I was called to the director and scolded. And I put on my brother's pants.
