There is no person in Russia today who has done and is doing so much to preserve its folk musical heritage as Vladimir Sergeevich Devyatov. Thanks to him, descendants will recognize Russian culture not only through frivolous unprofessional songs, but through real folk art, filled with original Russian music.
It is impossible to overestimate the services of the Artist from the People to the Motherland. Founder and director of the country's largest Center for Russian Culture and Art, founder and founder of the Institute of the Higher School of Arts, Culture and Show Business, curator of the International School of Vocal Excellence for young opera and song talents.
With the help of the Maestro, a “Children’s Singing Studio” and a “Children’s Music School” were organized at the Central Regional Culture and Culture Center. And finally, this is a magnificent tenor, bringing the light of Russian songs to his contemporaries from the stage. And also a diligent father, husband and grandfather.
“Along, and along the river”
Vladimir, the son of Sergei, was born in Moscow on March 15, 1955. But his first acquaintance with the Earth took place in Vologda. Dad - Sergei Ivanovich Devyatov - was seconded to this fabulous city as a young captain of justice. His family - his wife Ekaterina Stepanovna, an economist by training and the mother of little Volodya, and his son Volodya himself - followed his dad.
Vologda truly was and remains fabulous. Here is the residence of the Russian Father Frost, here is the center of Russian lace-making, the center of masterpieces of wooden architecture. The city on the river bank is surrounded by Russian churches, temples and greenery. Perhaps it was precisely this atmosphere that instilled in little Volodya Devyatov a special ringing love for the Russian soul. The boy with brown hair spent the first carefree 6 years of his life here, and from an early age he was drawn to music.
Kindergarten, eve of March 8th. The children of the junior group of the kindergarten are preparing to congratulate their mothers on the holiday. The song was chosen to the accompaniment of xylophones: all children of the Soviet Union remember this instrument well. 2-year-old Volodya Devyatov was chosen as the soloist. Then he experienced for the first time what it was like to speak in front of a large audience. The little singer performed his number with a bang. The listeners were delighted, and the parents showered their son with praise.
Since then, music has not left the Devyatov family. My parents loved this art before, there were always the most fashionable gramophone records in the house, and my dad played the accordion. But after baby Volodya’s debut, songs were constantly heard at home. At first, adults played records by Shulzhenko, Chaliapin, and Kozlovsky for the boy, but he quickly got used to doing it himself, climbing onto a chair.
He didn’t break a single record, and his favorite songs were all the songs of Lucy Gurchenko from the movie “Carnival Night” and Sergei Ya. Lemeshev, “At Dawn, at Dawn” and “Khutorok”. This is how the Vologda childhood of the future revivalist of Russian song in Greater Russia passed.
Biography
The hometown of the future artist, oddly enough, is Moscow; he was born here on March 15, 1955. Vladimir’s mother worked in the economic sector, his father was a military man. At the age of 6, he had to move to Vologda with his family. At that time, my father was sent to this region for a year, so the time spent outside the capital flew by very quickly.

The future artist studied at a secondary school, which was no different from all similar institutions. As for Vladimir himself, he was always an obedient and exemplary guy. I easily learned new things and studied quite well. At the same time he received an education at a music school.
He was constantly praised by his teachers because he showed really good results. He played the accordion very well and had a unique voice.
The personal life and biography of Vladimir Devyatov is a vivid example of the fact that you should always move forward towards your dream, without stopping at anything. A young guy, after graduating from school, thought for a long time about what professional field he should choose.
In his youth, the future musician studied at the Military Academy
Thus, the choice fell on the Military Academy. Not many people know, but Vladimir Devyatov is a chemical technologist by training. At the initial stages of his career growth, he had to work by profession. But he always knew that he could become a creative person and a professional musician.
“A young fellow is walking down the street”
In 1961, military investigator Sergei Devyatov finished his business trip, and the whole family returned to Moscow. My son just started first grade. Muscovite Vladimir Devyatov studied in the 249th, on Voikovskaya. He brought good grades, was capable and responsible. But he was never quiet. I drove through the streets, played hockey and football with my friends. Therefore, when his parents sent their son to music school, he was not delighted at first.
Singing and playing the accordion at home is one thing, learning notes and practicing under the direction of teachers is another. And the first turned out to be much more to my liking than the second. Volodya, however, graduated from school well. And now the 21st Moscow music school can be proud that it once graduated a future star in the accordion class. However, the school was unable to instill further interest in academic music-making.

Devyatov, already a teenager in tenth grade, was listening to completely different music by that time. Jethro Tall, The Beatles, Deep Purple, Grand Funk occupied the minds of Vlad and his brother. Without thinking twice, the brothers created a school rock ensemble, where Vlad also excelled as a drummer. His school years flew by merrily; Vladimir was preparing to enter the Military Academy of Chemical Defense.
Childhood and youth
The famous artist was born on March 15. 1955 in the capital of Russia. His father was a military man and had the high rank of captain of justice. The artist’s mother was an economist and had a higher education. Due to his father’s service in 1961, the family had to move to Vologda for a short time. A year later they returned to Moscow again.
Devyatov Vladimir Sergeevich
Vladimir Devyatov studied at the Moscow secondary school. Teachers considered Vladimir a model of diligence, so they often set him as an example to other children. He not only mastered knowledge well, but also actively participated in the creative life of the school. In parallel with his studies at a comprehensive school, he studied at a music school. Devyatov mastered playing the most popular musical instrument - the accordion. Vladimir Devyatov’s family supported his hobbies in every possible way, thereby he was inspired by his achievements.
Creative talents manifested themselves in his youth; the young man dreamed of becoming a famous artist. Along with this, he realized the need to receive another, more fundamental education. Therefore, after graduating from school, Devyatov entered the Military Academy, where he studied as a chemical technologist.
"Untie my wings"
Despite such an unusual choice, it was not worth worrying for a minute that Vladimir Devyatov’s musical career might pass him by. Yes, Maestro graduated from a military university, and even served for several years as an engineer-officer in one of the defense research institutes in Moscow. But music constantly accompanied him at any free moment. At first it was the Moscow rock project “Old Arsenal”, in which Vladimir spent his youth playing drums and providing vocals. Then folk motifs began to come to the fore. The soul asked for a dear one.
The group began to experiment, combining fashionable techniques with folk melodies. It turned out so interesting and fresh that gradually Volodya completely switched to the new format. Yes, and the case finally pushed me. Once I was relaxing in a bathhouse with friends, and Vladimir Vinokur happened to be next door. After listening to the singer, he declared with all his authority that the younger namesake definitely needs to study professionally, he has a real gift.
Vladimir Sergeevich thought and decided that music is everything to him, which means he needs to take his dream to a serious level. At the age of 28, the musician confidently applied to the capital’s Music Pedagogical Institute, known as Gnesinka, easily entered there and received a real musical education.
The Maestro studied brilliantly and cheerfully. My classmates were two lively Nadezhdas - Nadezhda Babkina and Nadezhda Kadysheva. Often everyone celebrated student holidays together and took part in skits. And Devyatov’s teacher was Lyudmila Shamina herself, a famous professor, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences. The talented singer graduated from the institute in 1987 with an even better voice and rich plans. By that time, his eldest daughter was already 11 years old.
Creative activity
Vladimir was not going to give up his old dream - to become a famous singer. His idols were such groups as Jethro Tull, Chicago, Deep Purple, Beatles and others. In the 70-80s, he himself performed as part of a musical group called “Old Arsenal”. Vladimir Sergeevich not only sang, but played percussion instruments.
In 1983, Devyatov entered the Musical Pedagogical Institute named after. Gnesins. Our hero was enrolled in the faculty of solo folk singing. In 1987, he completed his studies at the university.
V. Devyatov began his creative activity as a student at Gnesinka. In 1985, a talented guy created the Russian Tunes ensemble. The team performed at festivals held in Moscow, Tbilisi, Krasnodar and other cities. “Russian Tunes” has repeatedly won prestigious awards.
Between 1985 and 1995 V. Devyatov’s professional and public recognition was being formed. This singer has occupied a certain niche on the Russian stage. His person aroused more and more interest among listeners.
What is so unique about Vladimir Devyatov? The songs he performs were written dozens, even hundreds of years ago. Each of his concerts is a kind of excursion into the past. Where else today can you hear ancient romances and Russian folk songs? This is extremely rare.
Currently, Vladimir Devyatov is known and loved in Russia and the CIS countries. His creative repertoire includes hundreds of concerts, dozens of compositions and bright duets (including with his daughter Marina).
"I met you…"
Vladimir met Natalya at the age of 20. We worked together. At first, the personal life of the young people was a civil marriage, in which Katyusha, the Maestro’s first daughter, was born. This was in 1977, and the girl had to be registered under her mother’s last name, Lyakhov. But by the birth of their second daughter in 1983, the couple had already registered their relationship, and little Marina had already received her father’s last name. This did not affect the attitude of the sisters in any way.
Vladimir Devyatov in his youth with his family
Today Ekaterina runs her own business as a grooming specialist. Before this, the eldest daughter of the famous dad made a serious career in sociology, although in childhood she also successfully graduated from music school. The second daughter, Marina Devyatova, followed the hereditary line and by 2020 had become no less famous singer than her father. I chose the same genre, folk. The daughters are very friendly with their dad.
In the photo the singer with his daughter Marina Devyatova and son Vanya
Unfortunately, the marriage could not be saved, although it lasted 14 years. When the youngest girl was 5, Vladimir Sergeevich began to look at another woman. The wife did not want to forgive this and immediately showed her husband the door. Volodya left. And he married his new love - Olesya.
Beautiful, smart, candidate of technical sciences, Olesya was the Maestro’s wife for 3 years. Today he remembers that he loved the smart girl, but did not feel the same strength of feelings in return. There was coldness and alienation in the relationship. A man with a sensitive soul could not accept such a scheme. We also broke up with Olesya.
Then there was an even shorter marriage, this time only a civil one. The chosen one, Svetlana, delighted the heart for 2 years, until she got the hot idea of emigrating to the USA. Devyatov did not intend to leave his homeland under any circumstances, even for the sake of love; Russia is his only home. Svetlana left, taking with her baby Nikita, Vladimir’s third child and his first son. The boy was born in 1995, has the last name Dubnov, and, unfortunately, today his contacts with his father are minimal.
The singer lived again for 13 long years with Irina, his fourth woman and third official wife. He calls this marriage a good business partnership; the couple were able to make a decent fortune for themselves. But no children appeared in it, and this was very important to the artist. Gradually the relationship became friendly. And soon the Maestro met his fifth and final woman.
The beginning of a creative career
Vladimir Devyatov successfully completed his education at the Military Academy, becoming a certified specialist. Of course, there were no difficulties in finding employment, since the young man’s specialty was in great demand. He began serving at the Moscow Research Institute, specializing in defense equipment and research in this area.
However, the dream of becoming an artist never left Devyatov. While studying at the academy, he continues to study music. Foreign rock bands were especially popular in those years: the Beatles, Deep Purple.
Vladimir Devyatov At that time, many musical groups were created in Russia, imitating their idol. Vladimir Devyatov, together with other guys, also create a similar group and call it “Old Arsenal”.
Vladimir was both a soloist and a drummer at the same time. The guys are actively experimenting in various musical directions, combining folk motifs and bold rock music. The young man begins to study folklore more thoroughly.
The turning point in his career occurs after meeting Vladimir Vinokur. The artists met at a party for a narrow circle of people. Vinokur, appreciating the young man’s talent, advised him to get a professional musical education and continue to develop a career in this particular field of activity.
Vladimir Devyatov with his musical group
The words of the famous artist made a great impression on Vladimir Devyatov, and he decided to follow his advice. For many, the biography and personal life of Vladimir Devyatov is an example to follow. This is exactly how performers should be formed. In fact, Vladimir has said more than once that everything he achieved happened only due to his decisions.
"This paint fair!"
However, before this, Vladimir Devyatov had gone through a long creative path and won enormous fame on the Russian stage. While still at the academy (institute), he put together a folk group “Russian Tunes”, where he led and was a soloist. The year was 1985, it was that year that the International Festival was held in Tiflis, and the 12th World Festival of Students and Youth was held in Moscow. “Russian Tunes” became laureates at both festivals. And people heard about the gifted student far beyond Moscow.
Since then, the biography of Maestro Voice has developed rapidly:
- Since 1987, the ensemble “Russian Tunes” has been on brilliant tours in Thailand, Australia, Austria-Germany, Israel, Denmark-Belgium;
- sold-out performances of the ensemble were repeatedly held in the Kremlin, the Hall of Columns, the State Variety Theater, and the State Concert Hall “Russia”;
- musical numbers became frequent guests of ORT, RTR, NTV, Radio Russia, Mayak and other media;
- The first giant gramophone record, “A young fellow is walking along the street,” and the first CD, “Russian songs and romances,” were released;
- since 1989, the group has been included in the Moscow Committee for Culture, the musicians have become the official voice of key metropolitan and state events, the voice of the soloist Devyatov has begun to sound like the voice of Russia;
- in 1995, the singer and founder of the folk music wave was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the country by the President of the Russian Federation, and the International Academy of Sciences of San Marino recognized him as its Honorary Master;
- in the same year, Vladimir Sergeevich opened a unique Center for Russian culture and art, which today has turned into a grandiose School for training, supporting and promoting young talents from all over the world;
- 1996 – release of the album “To the Last Five”;
- 1997 - album “Avos”, since then the Maestro has released more than 20 albums;
- The repertoire of classical Russian romances was mastered, revealing another surprising gift from the Russian tenor.
And by 1998, Devyatov the singer decided to expand his professional skills and try himself in opera. Needless to say, he was extremely successful in this venture too? Over the next few years, the artist brilliantly mastered operatic vocals with the help of teachers and performed the most famous roles in operas:
- "Godunov", the role of Prince. Shuisky;
- "Demon", Book. Synodal;
- “The Two Foscari”, Jacopo;
- "Pagliacci", Canio;
- “The Snow Maiden”, Berendey;
- "Mermaid", Prince.
Jacopo's game is recognized as the most difficult in the world. And the joint parts in “Troubadour”, “Macbeth”, “Onegin” brought true pleasure to the soloist and new friends and fans.
Creative and charitable activities
In 1995, Devyatov was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In the same year, the singer initiated the creation of the “Center for Russian Culture and Art.” The initiative was supported by the Moscow government. The center has been operating for more than twenty years, its employees conduct educational work with younger generations, support young musicians, organize charity performances and art exhibitions.
Since 1999, the Center has operated:
- music children's school;
- children's singing studio;
- Higher School of Art, Culture and Show Business.
In the fall of 1998, Devyatov sang on the stage of the opera house for the first time. Today his repertoire includes the following parts:
- Prince Vasily Shuisky in “Boris Godunov”;
- Prince Sinodal in “The Demon”;
- Jacopo in the production of the opera “The Two Foscari” (one of the most difficult roles in the world tenor repertoire);
- Berendey in “The Snow Maiden”;
- Canio in Pagliacci;
- the prince in "Rusalka".
In 2003, the singer was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia.
In 2004, Devyatov launched a new project - the folk group “YAR-Marka”. The group included folk instrumentalists, choir singers, and dancers. Every year they participate in all festive events of the Russian capital.
"I've never seen anything like this"
In 2004, Vladimir Sergeevich organized a new ensemble, which was called “YAR-Marka”. In fact, it was a large project that included performances by songwriters, dancers, choir singers, and even show illusionists. Active selection of talents for work has begun. The young ballerina Liza Goryshkina also decided to try her luck. The attempt turned out to be successful, the girl ended up in the team of Maestro Golos himself, as the whole of Russia already called him.
By that time, the Maestro himself was going through difficult family times - his relationship with his wife, as a woman, had practically disappeared. The artist, who had a hard time enduring loneliness, more than once noticed the slender, modest Lisa, a dancer in his ensemble. But he didn’t allow himself any proposals. Lisa was married, and the age difference was 30 years, and the singer did not approve of this.
Vladimir Devyatov with his wife Elizaveta
Fate decided everything. Elizabeth came to her boss to resign; she realized that she couldn’t hold out for long in such a profession, and her whole life was still ahead of her. And then the master realized that he was unable to let the girl go, because it turned out that his feelings had outgrown ordinary sympathy. Lisa remained in another position. And during this time, she fell in love with her boss so much that she left her former family.

In 2008, Volodya and Lisa had a son, Vanya, and on June 20, 2009, the happy parents were finally able to get married. Today their second daughter is growing; in 2020 she turned 4 years old. The older children - two daughters - welcomed the new family members, the family often spends time together, including Sergei Ivanovich and Ekaterina Stepanovna. After all, both the father and mother of Vladimir Sergeevich are still in good health and have already celebrated 90 years.
Maestro pampers his wife Lisa, calls him his last, and plans to live with her for the rest of his life. It coincided with all the artist’s ideas about his ideal woman, and today the master is happier than ever both in his personal life and on his creative path.
Devyatov Vladimir Sergeevich
(15.03.1955)

Vladimir Devyatov is a performer of the widest genre range. But the main thing in the artist’s repertoire is still folk songs and old romances.
