Yulia Volkova is the world-famous “dark girl from Tatu”, the singer from the scandalous duet, which became one of the first Russian musical projects to reach the world level.
Yulia Olegovna Volkova was born in Moscow on February 20, 1985 in the family of a businessman and stylist. She began moving towards a musical career when she was still a girl - at the age of seven, her parents sent her only daughter to a music school to study piano. But in the third grade, a real acquaintance with the stage took place.
Yulia Volkova in childhood
At the age of nine, Yulia Volkova became a member of the children's vocal and instrumental ensemble "Fidgets", a recognized source of talent. This is where the musical biography of not only the scandalous duo began. In addition to Tatu, pop stars Vlad Topalov, Sergey Lazarev, Yulia Malinovskaya and Nastya Zadorozhnaya came out of this group. A year later in the ensemble, Yulia met her future partner Lena Katina.
At the same time, the piano was replaced by the study of acting: ten-year-old Volkova transferred from a music school to a new educational institution that specialized, in addition to general education subjects, in this area. Studying and translation bore fruit, and Yulia appeared in two stories of the children's humorous television magazine “Yeralash” (episodes “Help Me Out” and “Dummy”).

Personal life[edit | edit code]
Volkova and Parviz Yasinov in 2008
Julia gave birth to her daughter Victoria (born September 24, 2004) at the age of 19[18]. The girl's father is Pavel Sidorov[19].
In 2006, newspapers announced an upcoming wedding with singer Vlad Topalov, with whom Volkova had known since her participation in the children’s ensemble “Fidgets”[20].
In 2006, Volkova met the son of General Director Obid Yasinov, 19-year-old Parviz Yasinov. In 2007, the media wrote that Volkova secretly married Parviz in the UAE and converted to Islam[21][22]. Representatives of the group denied reports of marriage and adoption of Islam[23], but Volkova herself confirmed this[24].
Son Samir (born December 27, 2007), from Parviz Yasinov, who, as Volkova says, is a Muslim[19]. Volkova said that she “was always fascinated by mosques, the mullah’s singing, and women in burqas”[19]. According to her, she does not know the Koran by heart, does not follow all traditions, and believes that God is inside everyone[19]. In March 2010, Volkova broke up with Yasinov[25].
In 2020 she returned to Orthodoxy[26][27][28].

Family matters
The family life of Yulia Volchkova was not disclosed. Julia believed that what speaks about an actor is his roles, and not what happens in his personal life. It is only known that the actress was once married to the director of the theater in which she served. The marriage broke up, the reasons remained unknown to the general public. From this marriage, Julia had her first-born, Daniel, who was only 14 years old at the time of his mother’s untimely death. For her son and ex-husband, Julia's death turned out to be an irreparable tragedy. The teenage son was left an orphan, and for the director, even many years later, Julia remained a muse.
The Ukrainian director published farewell words in which he remembers Yulia with pain and trepidation. He writes that he and Julia lived a life filled with happiness and joy. Their life together had everything: love, hatred, quarrels, laughter, and tears. Having gone through a lot, they created a family, and then destroyed it, gave birth to a beautiful son...
In recent days, Ivan was close to his muse. Watching the actress decline was a difficult experience for him. Remembering their last days, he writes that in moments of a borderline state, when clarity of thoughts was less common, fragments of the roles she played slipped into Yulia’s speech. The heroes of her performances seemed to be returning to play their last role and then say goodbye to this world. “Heavy and light,” the director wrote.
The unexpected death of Yulia Volchkova resonated in the hearts of Ukrainian viewers as a great tragedy. Julia was not just an actress, she lived every role to the end. Her dedication to her work evokes only admiration and respect. In her life off stage, she remained a simple woman who loved her family. In our memory, Julia will forever remain the personification of elegance, charm and sophistication. An actress who not only played a role, but became her role. An actress who was sincere in every movement, look, word...

"TATTOO"
Children performed a lot not only throughout the Soviet Union. “Fidgets” often toured abroad, and by the time she was a teenager, the girl had seen almost all of Eastern Europe. They were often recruited to film the humorous children’s film magazine “Yeralash,” and thus the children learned to work on professional film sets.

With such versatile training, “Fidgets” really turned out to be ready-made pop artists. It is not surprising that the group was under the close attention of many famous producers, who often selected children from the ensemble for their commercial projects. That’s how Yulia ended up at TATU.
At first, producer Ivan Shapovalov chose only Lena Katina. He needed a bright performer for a new, completely original idea. But after several tests it turned out that a duet would look more interesting with this repertoire. Shapovalov had to re-cast, and thus a creative tandem was formed, called “TATU”.

It was easy for the girls to work together. They had known each other for years from “Fidgets” and became almost friends. Therefore, Katina was very happy that Julia became the other half of the duet.
The girls began to enthusiastically rehearse, and within a few months the group presented to the audience their debut video “I've lost my mind,” which instantly soared to the top of the most prestigious music charts.
Fame came to the girls unexpectedly quickly. At the time of Tatu’s triumph, Yulia was only 14 years old. Naturally, fame turned the girl’s head, but the producer literally kept the girls under a tight rein.
Within six months, they went on a big tour with a full repertoire. A year later, the first English-language album was recorded, and the geography of performances expanded to foreign countries.
The Tatu group initially gained scandalous fame, as the producer deliberately spread rumors about the girls’ non-traditional sexual orientation. Candid videos, as well as provocative lyrics, also hinted at this. Most viewers believed in this connection. But when Yulia had a daughter, it was pointless to continue this strategy.

The producer reoriented the “tattoos” to socially oriented songs, most of which were performed in English. This bore fruit, and the girls again found themselves at the top of the charts. But nothing can last forever. By 2009, Yulia decided that she had outgrown the TATU project and was ready for an independent creative path.
