Alain Delon and Romy Schneider: the love that conquered the whole world

“Go, soldier,” admonished 21-year-old Alain Delon from the partner of one of his army acquaintances, who told him the address of Monsieur Thomas. This man worked at the post office, and could get the handsome man who had recently been demobilized from the army into at least some kind of work.

The year was 1956. France was like a drug addict - the country had not gotten off the dollar needle of the Marshall Plan for the eighth year. The essence of the American aid plan was extremely simple - France supplies the United States with raw materials and semi-finished products, and in return buys finished goods. Inflation and unemployment were constant companions of this economic model. It was because of them that the healthy, handsome and full of energy Delon was ready to work even as a courier.

Early childhood

On the one hand, life did not spoil young Alain. By the age of 12, he had changed three families and a dozen schools. At first he lived with his own father and mother, Fabien Delon and Edith Arnold. The father owned a cinema (looking ahead, it is worth saying that this did not in the slightest degree affect the life of Delon Jr.), the mother helped her husband’s business. Alain was not even three years old when his parents divorced. Mom quickly married Paul Boulogne, who owned a sausage shop.

Working in the sausage shop, according to Edith, took all her time and energy. Therefore, she gave Alain to the nurse's family. It seems like a gloomy start to the biography. However, it is worth remembering what years these were. Alain was born in 1935. He was only five years old when World War II began. Thousands of his peers died from bombing or starvation. Delon was almost unaffected by the war. In any case, she did not ruin his life and did not cause psychological trauma.

Alain never finished school. Biographers lose count - he managed to study at either 15 or 17 educational institutions - not a bad characteristic for a 15-year-old boy. A certificate of completion of junior high school was his only document of education. There were also, however, butcher courses - he completed them in order to help his family in the store. The young man did not shy away from work, he did not have to go hungry, but he wanted independence. Delon took advantage of the most radical of legal options - he joined the army.

Great love stories: Alain Delon and Romy Schneider

“The day I stop trusting you will be the last in my life,” Romy Schneider repeated this line from the film “Christine,” on the set of which a beautiful but tragic love story began, like a spell. She trusted Delon until the end of her days. Their wedding was expected from the very first kiss, but it never took place, and the romance lasted six long and painful years.

"Smile!"

“They had too different stories to merge into one story with a happy ending,” that’s what their closest friends said about them. And indeed, the sophisticated aristocrat and the son of a sausage maker belonged to different worlds.

Romy's mother, actress Magda Schneider, knew exactly what her only daughter needed to be happy and successful. Magda was extremely popular in Austria. She and her husband separated when the girl was barely four years old. Not wanting to risk her career, Magda sent her daughter to a boarding school, and then for several years Romy lived with her grandparents.

At the age of 15, she starred in her first film, “When the White Lilac Blooms Again,” and at the age of 20, Romy Schneider was already a real star. The trilogy about the life of the Austrian Empress Sissi brought her deafening fame. The girl was inundated with letters with declarations of love, she was put on a par with Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich and a great future was predicted for her.

Her mother and stepfather took care of her career. However, she managed to get bored to death with the heartbreaking scripts that the directors brought to her, as if by agreement. The type of a respectable girl, faithful to truly German values and ideals, set teeth on edge. She was growing up rapidly, and more than anything in the world she wanted to finally escape from her mother’s care. “I loved my mother very much, and her advice was really very valuable. However, then I was haunted for a long time by nightmares in which she, standing behind me, angrily whispered: “Smile, I tell you, smile!”

Magda chose the scripts, endlessly lectured her daughter, and did not hesitate to argue until she was hoarse about fees. The script for the film “Christina,” on the set of which a meeting takes place that will ruin the life of her only daughter, was also approved by her. Romy was seriously offended, but her mother did not disobey, although they hardly spoke on the plane flying to Paris.

"Too handsome to be an actor"

In Paris she was given a brilliant reception. Newspaper men scurried around, camera shutters clicked, and no one paid attention to the handsome Frenchman who handed Romy a bouquet. This was her partner in the film “Christine” - Alain Delon. Despite his youth, he not only managed to learn how to skillfully cut up cow carcasses and stuff sausages, but also went through the war in Indochina.

Fate did not spoil this guy, but she gave him an extremely attractive appearance. However, in his youth he hardly realized this - and certainly did not use it. But when, after another scandal in the pub where he worked as a waiter, he was thrown out onto the street, he had no choice: he had to either return home to the provinces, or do everything to somehow get a foothold in Paris. There was no money for study, and so, on the advice of his friends, Alain began going to castings and photo tests. Refusal followed refusal, and the verdict was unanimous: “Too handsome to be an actor.”

However, failures did not bother him at all - hardened by endless guardhouses and service in a disciplinary battalion, he knew for sure that sooner or later luck would smile on him. And so it happened: at the Cannes festival, an American impresario drew attention to him, who sent Delon to a screen test in Rome. They turned out to be successful. The rising star had a 7-year contract in Hollywood, but he would still begin his film career in France.

"I lived with two Romies"

He got the role in the film “Christina” out of friendship. Having met his future partner at the airport and carefully examining her, he thought with sadness that he had never seen anything more boring than this rosy-cheeked burgher. And the set turned into a real battlefield. They could hardly stand each other, violent quarrels followed one after another. Alain openly mocked Romi, he was rude and ill-mannered, and she did not understand how she could kiss this lout - even for fun. However, little by little, Romy saw in him something that was not present in any of her respectable Austrian admirers with impeccable manners and an impeccable past. She saw the power of life, passion and what film critics would later call “authenticity.” Alain loved life and was not afraid to show it. Absolutely all conventions were alien to him, and that is why Romy’s affectation irritated him so much.

Romi was the first to take the very step that separates hatred from love. During the filming of the second part of “Christine,” which took place in Austria, she confessed her love to Alain. This caused a scandal in the family, but Schneider decisively broke off relations with her mother and stepfather and followed her lover to Paris. Feelings overwhelmed her. An entry appeared in the diary of the young actress: “I wanted to immediately become French in everything! In the way I live, make love, sleep, dress...” However, everything turned out a little differently. “I am perceived as a cheerful, pretty, but stupid girlfriend of such and such a brilliant, excellent, incomparable Alain!” Romy complained. And again the diary entry: “What should I do? Austria and Germany have already forgotten me, and France refuses to accept me!”

Later, an engagement took place, which Delon endured with difficulty. The arrogant spirit of the Austrian aristocracy aroused such rage in him, who had seen the very bottom of life, that he could hardly restrain himself from disappearing right from the ceremony. The thought that Romy, a star and heiress to a fortune, fell in love with him, a poor man from the French outback, was unbearable. And it was precisely this idea that was exaggerated by reporters in every possible way.

Then there was a departure to Paris and... reincarnation. From the sophisticated officer that Delon played on the set, he turned into a casually dressed young man who did not at all strive for what Romy so craved: to retire with her beloved in a cozy apartment and coo there all day long. Alain was a mad bundle of energy, and every evening he rushed away from the house. He was tireless in search of new acquaintances that could be useful to him in his career. He flirted, dined, dated and had affairs with the right people, without in the least claiming the freedom of his bride. “My love, if you are not happy with something, you can always leave!” he never tired of repeating.

Delon later admits: “Romy is a child of the society that I hate more than anything in the world. True, this is not her fault. But in five years I was never able to eradicate in her what was instilled in her throughout the 20 years of her former life. I lived with two Romies. I loved one of them madly. I hated the second one just as madly.”

“I will try to keep only the best”

Magda Schneider followed her daughter’s novel with pain in her heart. She spoke of her failed son-in-law with deep contempt: “He could do literally whatever he wanted with her, he committed violence against her - both physical and spiritual. With kisses and beatings, he forced her to join the new morality, the essence of which: everything is permitted. Men can hit women. Men can sleep with men. For this, men can receive money, roles or apartments from men.” But Romy loved only him. Loved without memory. She admitted to her friend, the famous writer Françoise Sagan, that Alain was the man of her life and that she was ready to give everything in the world just to become his wife. However, he was in no hurry. His career took off - and now he is already one of the five best French actors. And he still does not want to limit his freedom. In between filming, they try to spend at least a few days together, but these meetings are becoming less and less frequent.

And then a scandal broke out. Newspapers published a photograph of Delon with a beauty sitting on his lap. Delon breaks up with Romy in one fell swoop, and, it seems, without a second’s hesitation: “Goodbye! I give you back your freedom and leave you my heart!” He marries Natalie Barthelemy, the same beauty from the photo, and soon the couple has a son, Anthony.

Later, Romi would write in her diary: “After Alena’s betrayal, I was destroyed, confused, humiliated... If it had been up to me, I would never have left him... And before there were moments when I told myself: it’s time to finish! But I didn't have the strength. I loved him very much and forgave him everything. Nothing to regret. But God forbid I experience this again - I won’t survive! I will try to keep in my memory only the most precious, the best...”

They separated in the summer of 1963. Romy didn’t want to live - why live if the one she loved more than life betrayed her so easily?

"Pool"

Some time later, returning from Hollywood to Germany, Romy met theater director Harry Meyen. It seemed to her that she had found true love. In 1966, Romy and Harry got married. That same year their son David was born. Some time later, answering a journalist’s question, Schneider said: “Are you asking me if my life has changed with the birth of a child? I’ll say this: with the advent of David, I began to live!” Her son became everything to her: in him she saw consolation and reward for years of torment and self-denial. Life was getting better... but this story will also have a sad ending.

One day the maid called Frau Schneider to the phone: Paris is on the line! Delon called. Having managed to divorce Natalie, he was involved in some unclean business related to murder, he was in severe depression. And he really wanted to remember what it was like to be loved without any conditions. That is why he insisted that Romy Schneider become his partner in the film “Swimming Pool.” Without hesitation, she agrees and flies off to filming.

At first they pretended that nothing but roles interested them. “We love each other exactly according to the script,” they told reporters, laughing. But in fact, filming “Swimming Pool” meant the end of Romy’s hard-won happiness. Having rushed to help Alain, she was no longer able to restore her mental balance. Their meetings are becoming more frequent and more explicit. Romy's marriage is bursting at the seams - the offended husband refuses to put up with the role of a cuckold. They broke up. For the right to stay with his son, Romy had to pay one and a half million marks. Meyen quickly becomes an alcoholic and soon commits suicide.

“My name is Romy Schneider. And I'm an unhappy 42-year-old woman."

In 1975, Schneider married her personal secretary, Daniel Biasini. They had a daughter, Sarah, but this did not save the marriage. The couple separated and officially divorced in 1981. This period was the most difficult in the life of the actress. Her career was taking off, but it was more like an escape from herself. Severe depression, strong sleeping pills, and alcohol became her constant companions from now on. She found consolation only in her children - David and Sarah.

The tragedy occurred on July 5, 1981. David, trying to get into his grandmother’s house, decided to climb over the iron fence, but slipped and fell on the sharp bars, which literally pierced him right through. The 14-year-old boy bled to death. A few days before this tragedy, the actress told reporters: “Stop calling me Sissy! I stopped being her many years ago. My name is Romy Schneider, and I am an unhappy 42-year-old woman...”

The death of her son completely broke her. But she continued to work, escaping the loneliness on the set. She lived as if in oblivion. And the denouement was not long in coming. She was found dead in a Paris apartment a year after the death of her son. The 43-year-old actress died of a broken heart. However, the press wrote for a long time that she simply decided not to cling to life, which was so unmerciful to her.

Romy Schneider is buried in the Boissy cemetery, near Paris. Alain Delon insisted that David's ashes be reburied next to his mother's grave. A week after the funeral, Paris Match published a strange epitaph by Alain Delon on the death of Romy Schneider, entitled “Farewell, my doll”: “They tell me that you are dead. Am I to blame for this? Yes, it was because of me that your heart stopped beating. Because of me, because 25 years ago I was made your partner in “Christina.”

At war

Delon's service in the ranks of the paratroopers also leaves an ambivalent impression. He constantly got into trouble and could not improve relations with his commanders. While still at the training center, he committed some kind of offense, after which he voluntarily went to Vietnam - the alternative was prison. In those years, zinc coffins came to France in a continuous line, but Delon was lucky here too. For violations, he was sent to a disciplinary battalion. By a strange whim of the French regulations, the “penalties” were sent not to the heat of the front line, but to the airport to unload arriving planes. So Delon’s worst impression from the combat zone was fatigue.

Bouquet of scarlet roses

Their first meeting took place at Orly airport, from where the young actors were leaving for the filming of “Christine.” This picture was a remake of the 1930s film “The Game of Love,” which brought Romy’s mother Magda Schneider wide fame. The German star made bright plans for her daughter’s future, including a marriage with some artist, but she could not even imagine that she would manage her life in her own way.

Alain Delon put on a beautiful jacket (although he was a fan of leather biker jackets), combed his hair and picked up a bouquet of red roses - all in order to impress his partner, who was already famous then. “When I saw him, I thought: what a vulgar thing, and this boy is just melancholy,” is how Romy Schneider described in her diary her meeting with the one who would become her first and only love.

She didn’t make the best impression on him: “A vain, sweet Viennese fool without the slightest charm.”

During filming, the partners constantly quarreled and hurled insulting words at each other. And then... unexpectedly we fell in love. When Alain Delon flew to Paris after the premiere in Germany, Romy Schneider, unable to bear the separation, packed her things and followed him.

Paris, Paris

Upon expiration of the contract, the ex-parachutist returned to his homeland. After working as a waiter for several months, Alain did what young people who strive for success in life have always done - he set out to conquer the capital.

Paris does not believe in tears no worse than Moscow. Delon got a job there as a waiter, but in terms of his career everything was hopeless. And the waiter had a hard time. Later, in one of his books, Delon, who had already become a star, humorously gave a list of those who could yell at him:

  • assistant cooks;
  • cooks;
  • older waiters;
  • senior waiter;
  • administrator;
  • head waiter;
  • manager.

With Delon’s character, this situation could not last long. And it was then that he began to go around to army acquaintances asking for help in finding a job. Apparently, he enjoyed authority among his colleagues - no one refused him. It all came down to the lack of education, or rather, even the connections that in France are traditionally made during study. The best option turned out to be... returning to waitership.

Biography of Alain Delon

Alain Delon is a famous French theater and film actor, a legend of world cinema. The peak of his popularity occurred in the 60-80s of the 20th century - it was then that this blue-eyed Frenchman drove millions of women crazy and was considered one of the main sex symbols of the era. His name has long become a household name to denote an attractive man who can make you fall in love at first sight.

First steps to the screen

Now it was the Colosseum, a chic restaurant in the center. The salary allowed Alain to exist almost comfortably. He, already as beautiful as a god, acquired some gloss. He had a circle of friends and girlfriends. During this period, he first came into contact with the world of cinema. The famous actress Brigitte Aubert had her eye on the handsome waiter. As it turned out later, this was the start of Delon’s dizzying career.

He had previously been offered to send photographs to production agencies. But it was the mid-1950s. Young men of those years dreamed little of a career as a film actor. Men, of course, acted in films, but such an activity was not considered serious, except perhaps for superstars like Clark Gable. Delon took the photographs, but their use was found much later.

Aubert introduced him to Jean-Claude Brialy. The first homosexual of French cinema introduced Delon to Yves Allegret. The director of the acclaimed "Demons of the Dawn" - a film about French paratroopers - not without friction with the producers in 1957, gave Alain a role in the film "When a Woman Interferes." The film was not a box office success, but Delon, as they say, got into the groove and began starring in several films every year.

Alain Delon and Romy Schneider: there is nothing colder than dead love.

A pretty girl, born into the family of famous Austrian actors Wolf Albach-Retti and Maria Schneider, was named after both grandmothers - Rosemary-Magdalena.
The parents separated, and Rosemary, staying with her mother, got to the set very early. There she, choosing the pseudonym Romy Schneider, received her first big role, which made her famous. Sissi, the young Austrian queen, made the young actress literally a national heroine. There was even a monument to the Queen with the face of Romy Schneider in Vienna's central park. When she, already so famous, was offered a role in the film “Christina,” she wanted to initially refuse. But something, later called fate, pushed her to the right decision. She chose Delon as her partner herself. From the stupid photograph, in which, of course, his blue eyes were not visible. It was only later that girls on all continents would stick his photographs into school albums and cut out not entirely successful pictures from films from magazines.

«Delon at that time had a reputation as a hero close to the criminal world. But his insinuation, aggressiveness and beauty made him an ideal hero-lover

“,” recalled the director of the film “Christine” Pierre Gaspard-Hute.

Alain had already played in a couple of films, but was absolutely unknown to anyone. “Too handsome to become an actor,” managers and entrepreneurs often told him. His fee for filming this film was five times less than hers. At the meeting, Alain was dressed to the nines, had his hair combed and tried to look like a real gentleman. Romy arrived for the shoot and just got off the plane, and Alain met her at the foot with a bouquet of scarlet roses. What could be more romantic for a first meeting? Perhaps they fell in love at first sight? Not at all! Everything happened exactly the opposite. “I thought: what a vulgar thing, but this boy is just boring!”

, Romy later wrote in her diary.
She didn’t make the best impression on him: “A vain, sweet Viennese fool, without the slightest charm.”
She didn't speak French, he didn't speak English or German. Both did not like each other and spent the first days of working on the film in constant fighting and quarrels.

What happened then was not clear, probably even to the two of them. The love fever from the screen suddenly spread into real life. When, after the premiere, which took place in Germany, Alain flew home to Paris, Romy could not stand it, packed her things and followed. This caused a scandal in the family, but Schneider decisively broke off relations with her mother and stepfather and followed her lover to Paris. Feelings overwhelmed her. An entry appeared in the diary of the young actress: “ I wanted to immediately become French in everything!” In the way I live, make love, sleep, dress...

"
However, everything turned out a little differently. “ I am perceived as a cheerful, pretty, but stupid girlfriend number of such and such a brilliant, excellent, incomparable Alen!
", Romy complained.
And again the entry in the diary: “ What should I do?
Austria and Germany have already forgotten me, and France refuses to accept me! "

On March 22, 1959, they got engaged. This could not have happened without the persistent efforts of Magda Schneider. A girl from a good family should have been officially considered a bride. Although, of course, the “goose that lays the golden eggs” flew away from the practical house. Alain agreed to this bourgeois act, realizing that otherwise he and Romy would not live together. In cinemas before screenings, the news joyfully announced: “The most beautiful couple of modern cinema is finally engaged!” They say that it was this promotion that made Delon’s name then.

Romi, describing their evenings together, admits to herself how different they are from each other. Either they are suffocated with love and fun, then the rising star allows himself scandals with breaking dishes and assault, then he leaves the bride for a long time, spending a lot of time with friends, many of whom were too close to him. “ Not only women, not only...

“, she bashfully clarifies.

«When is the wedding?

“- people in society are perplexed. Alain, laughing it off, shows off the wedding ring on his little finger. Romy nods not so cheerfully, agreeing on everything. It seems that they don’t care about officialdom, everything is fine with them. An example of this is the couple Yves Montand and Simone Signoret. Their relationship is a model for Delon. He himself, of course, has changed. No leather jackets or motorcycles! An elegant dandy who admires the music of Bach and Mozart. Where do you intend to film? Only from first-class directors and at least two films a year.

In 1963, Romy went to Hollywood. Her career there did not want to improve, and it was at that moment that a photo in the newspaper caught her eye - Alain, on whose lap a pretty blonde was sitting. Delon called on the same day, convincing her that this was the machinations of the paparazzi and nothing had happened. But it was a lie. In the summer of 1964, Romy received a letter from Delon in which he asked her for forgiveness and announced his marriage to Nathalie Barthelemy, the same blonde in the photo. They broke up, and both thought it was forever.

Romi wrote in her diary: “After Alena’s betrayal, I was destroyed, confused, humiliated... If it had been up to me, I would never have left him... And before there were moments when I told myself: it’s time to finish! But I didn't have the strength. I loved him very much and forgave him everything. Nothing to regret. But God forbid I experience this again - I won’t survive!”

The actress could not survive this breakup in the literal sense of the word; in a fit of despair, she tried to open her veins.
After recovering from her breakup with Delon, Romy met Harry Mayen, a German actor and director. They got married in 1966 and the same year Romy gave birth to a son, David. The child became the center of her existence, the most important being in the world. Once answering questions from journalists, she said: “Are you asking me if my life has changed with the birth of a child? I’ll say this: with the advent of David, I began to live!”

Delon's personal life was also in full swing; in 1965, a year earlier than Schneider, he and Natalie had a son. But the marriage with the French woman did not last more than four years. They divorced, and in 1968 he began to live in a civil marriage with Mireille Darc. Even when they were with other people (Delon and Darc's relationship lasted almost 15 years), Alain and Romy continued to maintain contact. Their friendly relationship did not interfere with family life at a distance, but as soon as they met again...

Romi receives an offer she could never refuse. Delon announces the filming of the film “The Swimming Pool”, inviting Jacques Deray as director and Romy Schneider as his partner. Only actors connected by a common passionate and not completely lived past could play an interesting, but not too complicated story in this film. They haven’t seen each other for six years and go together to the famous resort of Saint-Tropez to experience the catharsis of fictional, but so close, characters in a villa rented for filming. They start a serious acting duel with each other, in which there could be no winner. Until now, the film “Swimming Pool” cannot be watched without feeling a bare nerve stretched along the bottom of this fateful story.

The actors convinced themselves and those around them that there were no feelings left between them. “The filming of “Swimming Pool” is going smoothly. With Alain I feel as if it were any other partner. It's very professional"

, Romy wrote in her diary in September 1968.
Delon waved away the reporters with the words that this time they “loved” each other exactly according to the script, and Romy pathetically added: “There is nothing colder than dead love.”
Love may have been dead, but on the day of the film's premiere, the French tabloids were full of photographs of the couple in a passionate embrace.

But the final reunion never happened, Delon went to Mireille Darc, and Romy’s marriage collapsed overnight. Harry Mayen never forgave his wife, he started drinking and by the early 1970s they no longer actually lived together, although the official divorce was filed only in 1975. In 1979, Harry Mayen committed suicide. He hanged himself in his apartment, using Romi's handkerchief for this purpose.

All this time, as if running away from herself, Romy Schneider works a lot, sometimes she manages to star in four films in a year. But the more the actress’s fame grows, the more successful her professional career develops, the more tragic her personal life. Romy tried to put her life back together again. In 1975, she married her secretary Daniel Biasini, who was almost 10 years younger than her. They had a daughter, Sarah, but this marriage also ended in divorce. But the hardest test was ahead. In the summer of 1981, her 14-year-old son David died tragically. He tried to climb over the fence, slipped and fell on the metal bars. When the boy was found, he had already bled to death. Romy's condition can hardly be described in words. The only one she let close to her then was Alain. Delon took upon himself the organization of the funeral and all the formalities.

It seemed to many that Romi would not survive the death of her son. The famous director Miklos Forman, who spoke with David the day before his death, tried to support his grief-stricken mother. He recalls that “poor Romy was tormented by terrible dreams in which she lost her dear David again and again.” Trying to forget, she began to take large doses of alcohol and sleeping pills, but the short-lived half-oblivion was again and again replaced by a terrible reality. A year later, on the night of May 29, 1982, Romy Schneider was found dead in her home. A medical examination showed that she died of cardiac arrest as a result of constant nervous overload. Delon again took charge of organizing the funeral. He stood at the coffin with the same bouquet of scarlet roses. Later, he arranged for Romi's son's ashes to be reburied in her grave.

A week after the funeral, the actor published an open letter to Schneier entitled “Farewell, my doll,” in which he wrote: “They tell me that you are dead. Am I to blame for this? Yes, it was because of me that your heart stopped beating. Because of me, because 25 years ago I was made your partner in Christina.

Subtotals

As you can see, Alain Delon can hardly be called the darling of fate. But it couldn’t have happened without the help of luck. Having not had the best character since childhood, Alen created many troubles for himself.

  • The version that his mother gave him to a wet-nurse family looks shaky - in the post-war years, even in France, wealthy families worked hard and hard, and devoted little time to all their children. The concept of “lack of parental attention” did not exist, just as there were no family psychologists making money from it.
  • Numerous schools, the walls of which saw the young Delon, also indicate that he was not a good boy.
  • Nevertheless, the fate of many thousands of young people with complex characters has developed and is developing much more sadly. And Delon managed to get out of all the troubles of his youth and achieve simply incredible heights in his acting career. But that's a completely different story...

Cold but beautiful: Tough love by Alain Delon and Romy Schneider

At one time this couple was talked about on every corner. They fought and then made up. But still they failed to maintain love. Why did the most beautiful couple in Europe of the 20th century, Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, still not find a common language?

The good and the bad

Romy Schneider was a well-known actress in Germany and Austria at the age of 20. Tired of being overprotected by her family, she left for Paris, where she was immediately offered a role in a film. At the airport she was met by fans and... Alain Delon with scarlet roses.

Romy had kind eyes and a sunny smile. There was enough love in her for all winters.

But Alain was different. He inherited his divine beauty from a cruel mother who was more worried about her butcher shop than about her son. Later she gave him to be raised by a wet nurse's family. And there, it would seem, the future sex symbol found “motherly” love. But the happiness did not last long: the nurse died along with her husband, and Alen returned to his mother’s cold house. No wonder he was a difficult child. Rudeness and cruelty are what Alain Delon saw in his childhood.

Romi and Alain started living together. However, they quarreled every day. The actress was sensitive and took these clashes hard. What about Alain? He had already suffered enough in his life, now it was his turn to hurt others.

Together it’s cramped, but apart it’s boring

Soon the main couple of Europe got engaged. Years passed, Delon became famous, girls went crazy about him, and Romi suffered. After 5 years, the engagement was broken off on the initiative of the actor. He began an affair with Natalie Barthelemy. And before that, he had a son with singer Niko.

Romy was having a hard time with the breakup. She even tried to commit suicide.

This is what she said: “After Alena’s betrayal, I was destroyed, confused, humiliated. If it were up to me, I would never leave him... And before there were moments when I told myself: it’s time to finish! But I didn't have the strength. I loved him very much and forgave him everything. Nothing to regret. But God forbid I experience this again, I won’t survive! I will try to keep in my memory only the most precious, the best...”

In 1966, the actress married German playwright Harry Mayen. They had a son, David. Three years later, Delon appeared in her life again, and he offered to star in the film “Swimming Pool.” She agreed, and the romance flared up with renewed vigor. Naturally, Romy's husband did not like this. They divorced in 1973, and a few years later Mayen hanged himself.

But Delon never married Schneider. The actors again did not find a common language. Romy decided to forget Delon once and for all by marrying her personal secretary Daniel Biasini.

In 1977, their daughter Sarah was born, but the actress truly loved only her son David. We can say that there were two men in her life: Alain and David. Only the first betrayed her all the time, and the second never. In 1981, an event occurred in Romy's life that turned her life upside down. David, climbing over the fence of the villa, could not keep his balance and died, running into his stomach on the sharp peaks of the fence.

Delon ran to the actress’s aid and began organizing the funeral. Only Alena, the actress, allowed her to approach her.

On May 29, 1982, Romy Schneider's heart stopped. Alain brought scarlet roses to the funeral, just like then... at the first meeting. And many years later he will say: “In my life there was a job, a son and only one woman - Romy Schneider.”
