To be honest, I literally forced myself on director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Michael Bay, convincing them that no one in Hollywood loved these turtles as much as I did.
You said that you literally imposed yourself on the director and producer - and how did you practically do this - I hope that there was no “casting sofa”?
Are you kidding me?! I just wrote them a really passionate letter saying that they couldn't find a bigger fan of this story than me, and that no one would play April O'Neil as sincerely as I could. And that they won't find anyone who wants this job more than me. When they chose me, I was in seventh heaven!
Did you enjoy playing the journalist?
Well, she wants to be like Anderson Cooper, but for now she's doing Access Hollywood-style reporting where reporters do interviews on the red carpet, which she considers a big achievement. I am familiar with all this, since I myself have done a lot of similar interviews, answering questions about who the designers of my outfit were, what I ate for breakfast, and where I would go on vacation. So, I didn’t have to look far for a prototype when I had to play such a journalist.

No, you are a real journalist. I’m talking about completely different people, about those who wear five kilograms of makeup when they interview me, and even male journalists who smear themselves with bronze self-tanning. (Laughs).
Was I surprised to hear that you're starring in a Michael Bay film again, despite a less than amicable breakup after Transformers in 2009?
You know that whoever remembers the old is out of his sight. As I mentioned, I spoke with Michael on the phone. But he never came to our set, although he was going to do it twice. But he is forgiven - he was busy filming the fourth “Transformers”.
In Hollywood they say you have a sharp tongue - right?
I won't deny the obvious. I don't know what they think and write about our film because I only use the Internet for shopping. They worry about whether my jacket is yellow enough and who said what about it.
Why do you think the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have so many fans?
I have my own theory about this: all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have different temperaments, but together they represent the four main temperaments that were identified by the Greek physician Claudius Gelen back in the 2nd century AD. (in the second century). These are sanguine, choleric, phlegmatic and melancholic. This means that each of us can recognize ourselves in them and identify them with ourselves. But there are times when I identify myself with Leonardo, who is sometimes attacked by melancholy. Have you ever had a turtle at home?
No, I've never had a pet turtle. In Hawaii, I often saw sea turtles. I really love watching them, especially at night when they are located on the shore. We prefer to relax in the same place that Franklin chose. That’s what I named one turtle, which I recognize by its clouded left eye. I think this is my favorite turtle. (Laughs).
Did you have a lot of action scenes in the film?
Yes, I have quite a lot of action scenes, but they are different from the ones I did in Transformers. Turtles had some of the most challenging action scenes of my career. It's a big choreographed scene of my April and Will Arnett's character fighting the Foot Clan, which we only found out about an hour before filming. It was kind of crazy, but very exciting. Will and I felt very cool, although the SEALs who took part in it were much cooler than us. And I'm sure they laughed at us on the way home.
How was it working with director Jonathan Liebesman - what is he like on set?
Jonathan is completely dedicated to his work - he literally self-deprecates on set. But he is also very funny, and tries to make everything seem funny. His main goal is to make a good film, and he is ready to listen to anyone who makes suggestions about anything related to the film's production. And not every director is capable of this, as you know. He himself was constantly asking for our opinions on various aspects of the film, and we felt very important.
What was the atmosphere like on set with Whoopi Goldberg and Will Arnett?
I love Whoopi so much - she's so amazing. She's such a big karma, if what I said makes sense. She is truly special and extraordinary. Whoopi and I had scenes together, and I really enjoyed working as a duet with her. It's good when the energy of actors taking part in scenes together mixes, like Whoopi and I did. Because it happens when your partner does not allow you to connect to his energy, and the duet often fails. But Woody was always open to me, which had a positive effect on my playing. As for Will, he's very funny. I'm a fan of his series Arrested Development, and I was very excited that he would be playing cameraman Vernon Fenwick. Will is a very devoted father - he has two sons. And I was pleased to talk with him about children on set. This is now my favorite topic of conversation. (Laughs).
