The year before, Clive appeared as Arthur in the film King Arthur. Initially, they wanted to use Russell Crowe in the film, but he refused. And Owen agreed with pleasure. True, Daniel Craig almost got in the way of the artist, but Clive gave him a role in the film “The Golden Compass,” which greatly surprised his colleague.

Owen was involved in the thriller “Not Caught, Not a Thief” directed by Spike Lee in 2006. The story of the film is based on the confrontation between detective Keith Fraser and cunning bank robber Dalton Russell. A game of cat and mouse results in hostage taking.

Personal life

The actor’s personal life is quite measured. Even in his youth, he met and fell in love with a young actress with whom he linked his destiny - Sarah-Jane Fenton. They met while playing in the production of Romeo and Juliet. Ironically, Clive got the character of Romeo, and Sarah-Jane got the character of Juliet. Soon after, the couple became husband and wife in real life.

The lovers officially got married in 1995. Then, within a few years of each other, two children appeared in the family - girls Hannah and Eva.

Spouses in Hollywood are considered an exemplary couple. They do not take quarrels out in public and do not make scandals in public. The family lives in their own house in the village of Highgate, which is located near London.

Clive Owen and Gerard Butler

A remarkable fact in the actor’s biography is that Clive Owen and Gerard Butler have similarities in appearance. Articles about this appear in publications where photos of celebrities are compared. But the similarities do not end there: both are British by origin, were brought up in single-parent families and began their acting careers on the theater stage.

The actor is a fan of the musical group “Hard-Fri”; he periodically attends concerts of this group with his family and friends. As a football fan, Clive supports Liverpool FC, attending some matches.

The artist is also a devoted fan of David Bowie. The actor said that the performer’s music influenced Clive in his youth. Later, for some time, he wore the same hairstyle as David's. The film actor owns a collection of the musician’s records from the seventies.

In one interview, the artist said that he was terrified of badgers. Later, when he was talking with another journalist, he laughed when asked about badgers and admitted that he was joking.

Clive Owen

It is noteworthy that Owen chooses the roles of well-mannered and intelligent, but immoral men. And the image of the artist is a worn old coat that Clive carries with him to filming. And the directors can't do anything about it.

Some sources claim that Clive was born in 1962, and the actor himself hides his real date of birth. One publication even wrote a long article on this topic and attached a photo of Owen’s birth certificate, which indicated 1962.

Another interesting fact: Clive hates being called a sex symbol. When he starred with Angelina Jolie in the film Beyond, she commented that Owen was sexy both on screen and in life. Jolie later said that these words made Clive laugh.

Owen Wilson: The Blonde's Tragedy

“Marley and Me,” a comedy about a naughty dog and a married couple, is being released. Starring Owen Wilson. This is the first film in which the actor starred after a suicide attempt.

In the summer of 2007, Hollywood was shocked by the news: one of the best comedians of modern cinema, the carefree and charming “gouger” Owen Wilson, was taken to a Santa Monica hospital. He tried to commit suicide...

More than a year has passed, but they began to talk more or less openly about this only now. “I respect the right of journalists to ask questions, but I ask that you give me some freedom during this difficult time.” This phrase by Wilson, uttered a few days after the terrible event, was quoted by all the tabloids. We must give the journalists their due - they really left the actor alone for a while. And even when he began appearing at premieres, giving interviews and doing photo shoots - that is, doing the routine work of a movie star - few people dared to ask him a frank question: “Why did you do this?”

Late at night on August 26, 2007, 911 received a call. They reported that a suicide attempt had just been made, the victim urgently needed help. It would seem to be a common thing, if not for the name of the victim. Owen Wilson, the world's most famous blond with a broken nose, first took a large dose of sleeping pills and then cut his veins on both arms. He was discovered by his older brother, Andrew Wilson, who accidentally came to visit.

Police cars, ambulances and even, for some reason, firefighters immediately arrived at Owen's mansion in Santa Monica. The actor was taken to the nearest hospital - St. John's. There, Wilson's condition was designated as "serious" and he was sent to intensive care. Only after the star’s life was out of danger was he transported to the “star hospital” - Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. All Hollywood celebrities who have had something bad happen to them end up here.

Owen's entire family rushed to Cedar-Sinai. The next morning, when the actor was allowed to visit, his closest friends arrived, including Samuel Jackson and Ben Stiller. Of course, there were a lot of paparazzi circling around the hospital. However, after the Wilson family talked to them, the photographers left their fighting positions - a peculiar and rare act for workers of the “yellow press”.

The main question is why an actor who has made a more than successful career in cinema, was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay of the film “The Tannenbaum Family”, one of the most desirable bachelors in Hollywood, a handsome man, a humorist and a rich man, suddenly decided to marry suicide - there is still no clear answer. But there are at least three versions that are being discussed by Hollywood gossip.

Kate Hudson

Despite the fact that in Hollywood Wilson is usually called a ladies' man, his real-life novels can be counted on one hand. All of them, as a rule, ended in a painful breakup. In 1998, he dated singer Sharyl Crow, in 2000, with Gina Gershon, and in 2002, with Demi Moore. Many of Owen's girlfriends were much older than him. Wilson's other, less famous girlfriends include Playboy girls and porn models. Kate Hudson, whom Owen met on the set of the film “He, Me and His Friends,” was thus the first “normal” girl, suitable for the actor both in age and status. Interestingly, according to the plot of the film, Wilson was wresting Kate from her legal husband. This is what happened in life: after having an affair with an actor, Hudson left her husband, musician Chris Robinson. This didn’t seem enough to Owen: he proposed to Kate, but she... refused, saying that she was tired of a serious relationship. Their romance ended in May 2007 - three months before the suicide attempt. Kate, according to rumors, as soon as she learned about what had happened, tried to get into the hospital to see Owen, however, her relatives did not let her in.

However, Hudson's name does not appear in the official statement about the suicide attempt: Wilson turned out to be a gentleman. Currently, they are back together and Owen is preparing to propose to Kate for the second time.

Drugs

As you know, almost all of Hollywood indulges in them, and Wilson is no exception. They even name specific drugs – cocaine and heroin. Owen got hooked on them after he stopped drinking. Namely, in 2003, after a course of “treatment” at the Society of Alcoholics Anonymous. Courtney Love let slip about all this, also naming the culprit of Owen’s dangerous addiction. According to Courtney, he turned out to be Wilson's close friend, British actor Steve Coogan. So, in one of the interviews, Courtney directly accused Coogan of supplying Owen with “powder” and also involving him in ugly orgies. Allegedly, after several unsuccessful attempts to “jump off,” Wilson decided to take his own life.

Depression

According to official statistics, 6 million people in America suffer from depression – and that’s only those who see doctors. Strangely enough, Wilson had a reason for depression: he became a hostage to his appearance. On screen, Owen embodied only one role: a stupid, talkative, funny guy. Few people knew that Wilson was an intellectual, a talented screenwriter and a good dramatic actor. The irony is that all of the above “sells poorly,” and therefore the actor had to work out the roles of simpletons. Owen has never hidden the fact that he takes antidepressants.

Due to a suicide attempt, Wilson was forced to abandon several films, including the acclaimed Tropic Troop (his role was eventually played by Matthew McConaughey). “Marley and Me” is the first film in which Owen returns to his usual role - a charming and carefree goofball. This means things are getting better.

Clive Owen now

In the summer of 2020, viewers saw their favorite artist in David Bowie’s science-fiction film “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.” Owen appeared in the role of an interesting character - Commander Arun Filitt. Clive's colleagues on the set were Dane Dehaan and Cara Delevingne. And in one bright scene the singer Rihanna appeared.

On April 19, 2020, the International Film Festival started in Moscow. The program includes 16 paintings, one of which – “Ophelia” – was brought from the USA. The film was directed by Claire McCarthy. Critics noted the originality and unusualness of the film. Clive Owen played the role of the central male character. Along with him, Naomi Watts and Daisy Ridley are involved in the film.

And in May 2020, the premiere of Andrew Niccol’s science-fiction thriller “Anon” will take place. The main roles in the film were played by Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried.

The plot of the film tells about an ideal society of the future. Total control over people has been established in the world, which implies a lack of privacy, private territories and civil rights. In such a state there are no mistakes or offenses. But one day detective Saul Freeland meets a girl whose name is not in the database. And then a new world opens up before the man.

Along with Owen and Seyfried, the film stars Colm Feore, Sonya Walger, Iddo Goldberg and others.

In January 2020, Clive joined the cast of Ang Lee's upcoming film Twin. The actor was offered the role of the antagonist, and he accepted. The positive character will be played by Will Smith.
