Alsu Ralifovna Abramova

(maiden name -
Safina
; born June 27, 1983, Bugulma) - Russian singer, TV presenter, Honored Artist of Russia (2018)[3], Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan (2000), People's Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan (2010), known mononymously as
Alsou
. UNESCO Artist for Peace (2011). Representative of Russia at Eurovision 2000, where she took 2nd place, losing to the Danish duet Olsen Brothers.

Biography

Born on June 27, 1983 in the city of Bugulma, Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. By nationality - Tatar[4][5].

Father - Ralif Rafilovich Safin (born January 6, 1954[6], Bashkir by nationality[7]), entrepreneur, former vice-president of the oil industry, politician, member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia from the Altai Republic.

Mother - Razia Iskhakovna Safina, architect.

Alsou has three brothers - the elder Ruslan (1973) half-blooded, the middle one Marat (1977, not to be confused with the famous tennis player Marat Safin, namesake) and the younger Renard (1996)[8][9].

Alsou's musical career began in 1998, when the singer was 15 years old. Her first two singles, “Winter Dream” and “Sometimes,” turned out to be very successful and are still the singer’s calling card. Alsou's first music collection, entitled "Alsu", went on sale on September 15, 1999. In the first 6 months, over 700,000 copies of this album were sold. In support of the album, Alsou gave a number of solo performances in Russian cities in 1999 and 2000.

Singer Vadim Baykov became the artistic director of her group (he remained there until December 2005). He was also its producer in 2004-2005.

In May 2000, Alsou represented Russia at the Eurovision music competition, where she took second place, performing the song “Solo” in English. Until Dima Bilan's victory in 2008, Alsou's second place was Russia's highest achievement in this competition. In August 2000, Alsou began recording the English-language album “Alsou” at the Universal Music Corporation studio. The disc was recorded in the UK, Sweden and the USA. The Russian release of the album took place on July 10, 2001. In addition to Russia, the disc was released in Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Malaysia and Thailand.

Alsou's debut album was re-released 2 times - in October 2001 under the same cover with 2 new songs and in May 2002 with three more bonus tracks.

In 2002, Alsou worked on her solo album “19,” which was released in Russia on February 14, 2003. The album included songs such as “Yesterday”, “Everything is Equal”, “First Time” and others. Over 800,000 copies of the album “19” were sold in Russia. In support of the album, Alsou gave a number of successful solo performances in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia, and Latvia. The singer also visited Israel, where she gave performances in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in April 2004.

Since 2003, Alsou has been working on her second English-language album. It was decided to call the disc “Inspired”, since Alsou was the author of most of the recorded songs (author of lyrics and co-author of music). In the fall of 2004, the single “Always on my mind” was released in Russia. The release of the single in the UK, planned for March 2005, did not take place, despite the television rotation of the high-budget video clip on British music channels and Alsou's promotional tour on radio stations. After a series of delays in the release of the single, Mercury label abandoned plans to release the album "Inspired".

In 2007, it joined United Russia[10]. In 2008, after a five-year break, Alsou released the music album “The Most Important Thing.” At the end of the same year, another disc was released in the Bashkir and Tatar languages called “Tugan Tel” (Native Language)[11].

On May 16, 2009, she hosted the final of the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Moscow, paired with host Ivan Urgant. In 2009, she made her debut in the film directed by Svetlana Druzhinina “Secrets of Palace Coups. Film 7th. Vivat, Anna Ioannovna!”[12]. Also in it got the role of a maid of honor named Madeleine.

In 2010, Alsou, Jasmine, Irina Dubtsova, Tatyana Bulanova and Lera Kudryavtseva teamed up to record a children's lullaby “Sleep, my sunshine” in support of the Pampers and UNICEF charity project “1 pack = 1 vaccine” to prevent tetanus in newborns and their mothers [13]. On February 17, 2010, singer Alsou was awarded the title “People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan”[14].

In 2011, it became known that the singer owns 19.97% of the Local Credit bank[15]. The same shares in the bank belong to her husband Yan Abramov and his father Rafael Abramov - 19.97% each.

In 2012, an album of lullabies “Fairy of Good Dreams” was released, which received a mixed review from Alexey Mazhaev. According to the critic, this album

does not return the singer to the mainstream of her active vocal career, but continues to successfully support the imitation of activity... Alsou’s gentle and soft voice is perfectly suited for singing songs and romantic ballads, so attempts to remind herself of the promising start of a promising career on this album seem unnecessary. And since they exist, then an outside listener cannot help but notice that since the times of “Winter Sleep” and “Sometimes,” the talented vocalist Alsou has not begun to sing better. Half the album consists of remakes, but Alsou either repeats the original or embellishes it with unnecessary excesses."

About new lullabies Mazhaev writes that

each of them is good in its own way and may well be recommended by the Ministry of kindergartens for listening in quiet times - however, collected together they somehow get confused in the sleepy mind and are poorly remembered[16].

In June 2013, Alsou’s video for the new song “Stay” took place in Baku[17]. In Baku, in addition to filming the video, the singer also celebrated her 30th birthday[18].

On November 5, 2013, the premiere of the video for the song “Stay” took place[19].

In 2014, two videos “Father's Daughter” and “You Are My Happiness” were released - the soundtrack to the full-length feature film “The Diary of a First-Grader’s Mother.”

In January 2020, the premiere of the video “Can’t Stop Loving” took place, and in October of the same year the video “Where You Are Not” was released.

In March 2020, the premiere of the new song “Don’t be silent” took place[20]. The video for the song was released on April 9, 2020[21].

Born

This is how it is customary to talk about the children of wealthy parents, and this definition is quite suitable for the singer Alsou. Her father Ralif Safin made a considerable fortune as vice-president of the oil industry, so he was able to provide for his daughter, who was born on June 27, 1983 in the town of Bugulma in the Republic of Tatarstan, and three sons (Alsu has two older brothers - Marat and Ruslan and the younger Renard - Approx. ed.) a worthy future.

Alsou was born into a wealthy family, so since childhood she did not know the need for anything. Photo: @alsou_a.

From the age of five the girl learned to play the piano. Alsou went to school in Moscow, and at the age of 9 she went to study in the USA, where she spent six months. This was not the end of her foreign studies: after America, she spent another six months in Denmark, and at the age of 12 she entered MPW College in the UK, where she mastered mathematics, a business program, and a course in fine arts in English.

And at the age of five, the singer began to study music. Photo: @alsou_a.

The future star decided to receive higher education in Russia: she was enrolled in GITIS in the course of director Valentin Teplyakov.

Personal life

  • On March 18, 2006, Alsou married businessman Yan Rafaelevich Abramov (born December 4, 1977, Baku[22][23]), chairman [24], son of banker Rafael Yakovlevich Abramov, vice-president of the Moscow Basketball Association, and chairman of the bank " Local credit"[25][26]. The wedding, which was attended by the entire Russian elite, was distinguished by the large scale of the celebrations. They received a marriage certificate from the hands of Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, and from their parents and guests they received money, a country house in Moscow, jewelry, and a Bentley car as a gift. The ceremonial part took place at the Rossiya State Central Concert Hall, and the honeymoon was spent on the Fiji archipelago[27][28].
  • On September 7, 2006, daughter Safina was born at a private clinic at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the USA.
  • On April 29, 2008, at the Ichilov clinic (Tel Aviv), the singer gave birth to her second daughter, Mikella.
  • On August 10, 2020, at the Ichilov clinic[29] (Tel Aviv), the singer gave birth to her son Rafael[30].

Happy marriage?

In 2006, the 23-year-old singer got married. Her chosen one was the son of the vice-president of the Moscow Basketball Association and chairman of the Local Credit Bank Rafael Abramov, Yan Abramov. The star’s husband was 29 years old at that time and was the chairman.

In 2006, the singer got married. Photo: @alsou_a.

In their marriage, Alsou and Yan had three children: in 2006 - daughter Safina, in 2008 - daughter Mikella, in 2020 - son Rafael. From the outside, this union seemed ideal.

In marriage, she gave birth to three children: two daughters and a son. Photo: @alsou_a.

Over the 13 years of marriage, Alsou’s marriage was never discussed on the Internet from a negative perspective: the spouses did not scandalize or sort things out in public, so the news of a possible divorce came as a real shock to fans.

Despite numerous births, Alsou was able to maintain a beautiful figure. Photo: @alsou_a.

Revelations from employees of escort agencies appear on the Internet, who talk about how Yan Safin used to relax: fishing, hunting, accompanied by beauties. Allegedly, during such events, girls’ smartphones are taken away and they are temporarily given Nokia feature phones without a camera, so that the video of lovemaking does not float onto the Internet.

Alsou does not comment on a possible divorce, but she deleted all photos together with her husband. Photo: @alsou_a.

So far, neither the hero of numerous gossip nor his beautiful wife react to the gossip. But unexpectedly, almost all joint photos with Ian disappeared from Alsou’s page on the social network Instagram. This circumstance, and even in the light of information about infidelity, seems strange to fans: the singer was brought up in Eastern traditions and always put her family first, which means she wouldn’t just delete the pictures...

Fan harassment

Being quite popular, Alsou many times had to deal with the persistent and sometimes aggressive behavior of her fans. Once, when she was not yet married, she had to double her security after a young man began to persistently pursue her[40] after she stated that she did not have a close friend.

In October 2008, another fan-spammer was arrested, known on the Internet under the nickname Alsuved, who flooded Alsou, her entourage, and fans with e-mail messages, and also wrote messages on blogs and forums that supposedly Alsou still hasn’t married and should marry him in the summer of 2008[41].

"Winter's Dream" turned a 16-year-old girl into a star

The singer was only 16 years old when she recorded her first hit, “Winter Dream.” Top-rated actors Elena Yakovleva and Sergei Makovetsky starred in the video of an unknown girl, which attracted the attention of the audience. The plot of the video, which told the story of Nabokov’s Lolita in a new way, was also exciting. Next, Alsou released a new hit, “Sometimes.”

When it became clear that the popularity of the new star was growing, it was decided to record the first album called “Alsu”. With him, the singer went on tour to Russian cities.

At the age of 17, Alsou represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest and set a record that could not be broken for eight years. Photo: @alsou_a.

In 2000, a year after appearing on the big stage, the performer was chosen to represent Russia at the most prestigious music competition, Eurovision. And they were right! The singer took second place with the track “Solo,” which was the highest result in the history of Russia for eight years: only in 2008, Alsou’s record was broken by Dima Bilan, who won the competition.

The young singer set a record at the Eurovision Song Contest that could not be broken for eight years.
