Anton Vasiliev began preparing himself for the profession of director in the sixth grade: he wrote stories and took a lot of photographs.
In 1970, after graduating from school, despite the huge competition (265 applicants applied for one place), he entered the directing department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography and was enrolled in the workshop of Mikhail Ilyich Romm. Anton was lucky; he was among the last students of the outstanding master. Advertising:
Having graduated from VGIK in 1975 and having received the specialty of director of feature films and television films, A.S. Vasiliev worked as a director at the film studio of the USSR Ministry of Defense (1976-1978), while simultaneously serving in the army (1976-1977); in 1978 he worked at the Mosfilm film studio, then moved to the Gorky Studio, where he worked as a director for 10 years (1979-1989). From 1989 to 1994 he was a director and scriptwriter at the Central Documentary Film Studio. Then he worked as a director of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater (1994-1996), and the Omsk Drama Theater "Galerka" (1997). From 1985 to the present, he has been working under contracts at Central Television. Since 1998 he has been teaching feature film directing at VGIK. In 1985-1986 as a construction worker, then as a restorer, he took part in the restoration of the St. Danilov Monastery.
A.S. Vasiliev is the author of three full-length feature films: “Blazhnaya” (2 parts, 1978, film film “Mosfilm”), “You Can’t Forbid Living Beautifully” (1982, film film named after Gorky), “On the Grass Barefoot” (1987, film film named after Gorky), author of scripts for the films “The Old ABC” (film film “Mosfilm”, 1987), “Red and White”, awarded second prize at the festival “The Golden Knight”, 1996, as well as the director of the plays “Family Holidays” based on the play by Vasily Belov (Gorky Moscow Art Theater, 1996) and “My Darling” based on the play by M. Varfolomeev (Omsk Drama Theater “Galerka”, 1997). Currently, the director, together with Vadim Kozhinov, is working on the script for a newsreel documentary about the history of Russia in the 20th century.
Problems of ecology and environmental protection occupy a large place in the work of A.S. Vasilyev. He first turned to it in 1983, when he realized the scale of the impending environmental disaster. The director's first film, Earth in Trouble (1985), shot on amateur film and dealing with these issues, was closely examined by the Politburo. At that time, the country's leadership was dealing with issues of transferring part of the flow of northern rivers to the south and did not tolerate any criticism of its plans. Deciding to make such a film at that time was truly a heroic act.
This was followed by new films - “Volga from Source to Nizhny” (1988), “I Raise My Eyes to the Sky” (1989), “Holy Volga” (2 episodes, 1991). In addition to the damning facts (during the construction of hydroelectric power stations on the Volga, for example, more than 90 cities and a thousand villages were flooded), A.S. Vasiliev’s films contain music, poetry and nice people with sensitive souls, and the viewer is charged with the author’s mood and wants to act. After watching the film “Holy Volga,” Nikita Mikhalkov, who heads the Three Te studio, invited Anton Vasiliev to shoot a documentary film at his studio. The film “Moscow River” (1994), shot at N. Mikhalkov’s studio, was recognized as the best at the “Green View” environmental film festival. In it, the director seriously and frankly stated that in a few years humanity will face a global environmental catastrophe if it does not take up environmental protection closely.
In total, A.S. Vasiliev has produced more than a dozen documentaries and journalistic films that touch on environmental issues that concern everyone. Among them are “The Astrakhan Knot” (1991), “The Volga Flows into the Caspian Sea” (1991), “Portrait on a Black Background” (1991), “Voices of Vetluga” (1993), “The Third Patriotic War” "(1994), "Islands in the Mainland" (1998).
A.S. Vasiliev is the author of scripts for a number of television programs and series of programs, including: “The Poetry of V. Fedorov” (1985, Central Television), “The Third Angel” (1992, RTR), “Mesyatseslov” (1995 , RTR), “Chechnya is Russia” (1996, RTR), “Tatiana’s Day” (1996, ORT), “Russian Troika” (ORT), “The Motherland Preserves” (1994, RTR ), “Russians” (1997) and others.

He is a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia (1992) and the International Federation of Environmental Journalists (1994).
Anton Vasiliev is not only a director and screenwriter, but also a poet. He began writing poetry in earnest after the death of his father. In 1991, several of his poems were published for the first time in the anthology “Poetry” (No. 58); in 1999, a collection of poems and poems by A.S. Vasilyev entitled “Words” was being prepared for publication. Anton Vasiliev believes that such diversity of creativity - director, poet, screenwriter, environmentalist, publicist - gives him, a person of an Orthodox worldview, a unique opportunity to actively pursue his civic line. “I would join the party of decent people,” says Anton Sergeevich. His life credo is an ecological lifestyle, which, according to the director, should be developed in the same way as the cultural wealth of the nation.
He devotes his free time to poetry, prose, and traveling around the country; loves the Russian bathhouse and is building a house in the village. He is a fan of the work of his wife, Honored Artist of Russia T. Petrova, as well as his grandfather and his brother, A.S. Makarenko; often visits his father's museum in Kurgan.
