Biography
Roman Mayakin was born into a working-class family. His parents died before their son came of age.
The artist says: “My family is not creative at all. No one had anything to do with acting, not even my most distant relatives. Both mom and dad had technical professions. My parents left me quite early; I was not even 18 years old at the time.” Roman was brought into the acting profession by his school love, namely a girl who studied in the studio at the Noginsk Theater: “When I was 13 years old, one incident happened. I went to drama school because I fell in love with a classmate. After that, I liked it, and I realized that I could no longer imagine my life without acting.”
After school, there was no question for the young man where to go. Roman went to Moscow, applied to five theater universities at once, and was accepted into all of them. However, the choice fell on the Moscow Art Theater School because his friend studied there.
Education
After graduating from school, Roman could not decide on a university for a very long time and sent documents to five theater universities in the capital at once. To his incredible surprise, he successfully passed the selection in each, but chose the Moscow Art Theater School and never regretted it.
Young Roman Mayakin on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater
At the university, Roman’s supervisor turned out to be the famous Soviet actress Alla Pokrovskaya. Also among his teachers were such outstanding artists as Roman Kozak and Dmitry Brusnikin. And today the actor remembers these professionals with warmth and admits that they taught him a lot and became family to him.
Roman Mayakin on the theater stage
Roman Mayakin became an orphan early - his mother and father died when he was 18, his sister died in a car accident. So he was used to achieving everything in his life on his own, without the help of others.
Theater
Having received higher education in 2007 (course of R.E. Kozak, D.V. Brusnikin, A.B. Pokrovskaya), Roman Mayakin was accepted into the troupe of the Theater. Mossovet.
The actor’s most memorable role was King Herod in a musical play based on Webber’s famous rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar.” He also convincingly played Derzhimorda in Gogol’s comedy “The Inspector General.”
Now the artist is busy with enterprises.
THEATER WORKS
- Orderly - Yuri Eremin “In the space of Tennessee U.” (based on the play “A Streetcar Named Desire” by T. Williams and the novel “The City Without Seasons” by S. Yamamoto, directed by Yuri Eremin);
- King Herod - Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber “Jesus Christ Superstar” (dir. Pavel Chomsky);
- Don Rodrigo - "The Betrothed";
- Brisailles, Gigi, 4th Guardsman - Edmond Rostand “Cyrano de Bergerac” (dir. Pavel Chomsky);
- Tony Lumkins - Oliver Goldsmith "One Night Mistakes" (dir. Pavel Chomsky);
- Derzhimorda - N.V. Gogol “The Inspector General” (dir. Nina Chusova);
- Murad, Assistant to the Chairman, Teacher, student, neighbor, student, passenger on the train - Nodar Dumbadze, Grigory Lordkipanidze “Me, Grandma, Iliko and Illarion” (dir. Marina Brusnikina).
Teenage and adult years
The end of secondary school was approaching, and it was time to choose an educational institution for higher education. Roman couldn’t decide on an educational institution, so he decided to send documents to five universities in Moscow at once, just in case. The surprising thing is that he managed to successfully pass the selection process in all institutions, but ultimately settled on the Moscow Art Theater.
I never regretted my decision, especially since the outstanding Soviet actress Alla Pokrovskaya became his university director. Also on the teaching staff were no less outstanding film and theater figures, such as Roman Kozak and Dmitry Brusnikin. Roman always remembers his years of study and former teachers with special tenderness and gratitude.
The artist always achieved everything on his own and was not used to counting on anyone’s help, because at a young age he was left practically alone. When he was 18 years old, his mother and father died, and his sister died in a car accident.
After graduating from the Moscow Art Theater he received a diploma and became a certified actor. And in 2007 he managed to get into the Mossovet Theater. He served in the theater for more than seven years, during which time he had the chance to work with outstanding artists and filmmakers, such as: Ekaterina Guseva, Evgenia Kryukova, Gosha Kutsenko, Alexander Yatsko, Pavel Khomsky, Nina Chusova, Yuri Eremin and others.
The audience most remembered such characters as King Herod, based on the famous rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar”, Derzhimorda from “The Government Inspector”, Don Rodrigo from “The Betrothed”. He always gave his best.
In addition, Roman was repeatedly seen on television. He began acting in TV series and films during his student years. So he already has more than a dozen films to his credit, for example: “Airborne Father”, “Vorozheya”. However, most of the roles at that time were minor.
The desired popularity came to the artist in 2014, he received one of the main roles in the serial series “Sweet Life” ; many famous Russian celebrities also starred in this drama. It’s interesting that at that time he was filming in another project, with the same people as in “The Sweet Life.” At this moment it became clear that they could not find a suitable actor for one of the roles.
Roman tried his hand at screen tests and easily got the role. The series was filmed for about three years, all this time the artist did not leave the image of Vadim. His character changed with him. The hero has changed radically, going from a conqueror of women's hearts to a man who has lost everything.
Two years of filming did the young man good. At the beginning of filming, he weighed as much as 127 kilograms with a height of 185 centimeters. By the end of filming, I lost all 30 kilograms. But they didn’t just leave; the artist had to spend a lot of effort. He not only went in for sports, but also completely gave up meat. It was the right decision, because weight seriously interfered with the actor’s career.
After La Dolce Vita, he began to be noticed more and more often and was invited to lead roles. At the same time, many young TV viewers were delighted with the man. He began to act more often in films and the theater found himself in the background.
The next few years were marked for Roman by a large number of new films, in which he starred with fairly famous theater and film actors. He was seen in the comedy “Without Borders”, in the comedy series “You All Infuriate Me”, in the comedy film “Favourites”.
Also, 2020 was marked for the artist by filming in the popular television series “Psychologists.” Which brought him even more popularity. And in 2020, he received one of the main roles in the psychological drama “Kept Women,” which consisted of only 16 episodes.
Cinema
Roman Mayakin’s film debut took place in 2005 in the action-packed detective story “MUR is MUR-3.” Then the aspiring actor was invited to such popular TV series as: “Law and Order. Department of Operational Investigations-2”, “Turetsky’s March” (season 4), “I am a bodyguard”, “Airborne Father”, “Barvikha”, “Glukhar-2”, “Truth hides lies”, “Sleeping area”.
In 2010, the artist starred with Nikita Mikhalkov in the military drama “Burnt by the Sun-2. Anticipation,” played a cadet. A stately and handsome young man reliably conveyed the desired image.
The first leading role went to Roman in the comedy “Toys,” a modern version of “Office Romance.” The events center on the lives of young people aged 25 to 30, each of them trying to find their place in the world, meet their other half and find happiness.
The actor quite often plays in melodramas: “Wedding Ring”, “The Eighties”, “Always Say Always”, “Samara”, “Shopping Center”.
In 2014, Mayakin was again offered the leading role in the TV series “Svatya”. This is a comedy about two matchmakers who cannot divide territory and power. Different destinies, different opinions and methods of education in the hilarious Mukhin family - all this is shown in interesting and comic stories in which the heroes find themselves.
Konstantin Kikichev, screenwriter and producer: “I had only one request for the film crew - to watch the film “For Family Reasons,” which is close to us in atmosphere. You know, any warm, sincere film with kind and understandable humor gives a good mood, and at the same time teaches us to love our loved ones. I think this is the goal of our project."
"Sweet life"
Roman Mayakin gained wide popularity thanks to the serial drama “The Sweet Life”. His hero Vadim is unhappy in his marriage to his wife Natasha (Maria Shumakova).
“There is some sarcasm in the title of the series, because the life of our heroes is not so sweet. But for me personally this phrase sounds strange. I can tell you what a happy life is. And sweet...
The reason for the collapse of the relationship between Vadim and Natasha is that they lost respect for each other and no longer wanted to work on the relationship...
I don’t have any questions for Vadim - I feel sorry for him purely as a man. Everything is falling apart for him. When there is no confidence, when the ground has gone from under your feet, you can’t even seduce a chick, you can’t even seduce your wife. And his uncertainty ultimately gives birth to the mess in which he finds himself. But this is the life experience that we gain. And the usefulness of “La Dolce Vita” is not that people will watch and suffer, but that people will recognize themselves in certain situations,” notes the actor.
In the project, the artist played one of the key characters for three seasons. During this time, his Vadim went from a spoiled official and a modern Don Juan to a man who lost everything.
In the following years, Roman Mayakin could be seen in comedies: “Without Borders” with Oleg Basilashvili and Inna Churikova, “How I Became Russian” with Vitaly Khaev and Svetlana Ivanova, “You All Infuriate Me” with Svetlana Khodchenkova and “Favorites” with Alexandra Bortich.
"Psychologists"
In 2020, television viewers were able to enjoy the actor’s performance in the series “Psychologists.” The main characters are three psychology graduates who met ten years after graduation. The girls saw that their own knowledge did not help improve their personal lives, and decided to unite to provide professional psychological assistance to each other.
Roman played Ilya, who, due to family problems, signed up for a consultation with psychologist Tatyana (Anastasia Panina). Tanya falls in love with her patient, contrary to professional ethics, and cannot choose between Ilya and her boring husband (Dmitry Endaltsev).
“In La Dolce Vita, my hero is, as they say, crazy: he is an official, he is well-packed financially, he has a family, children. Out of boredom, he begins to look for available pretty girls. In "Psychologists" a fairly mature man falls in love - and in such a way that he is literally blown away. And he ends up seeing a psychologist to save his family,” explains the artist.
Mayakin about filming “Psychologists”: “I’ve never been to a real appointment with a psychologist, but I want to go. Cool, useful topic. When you talk through difficulties with a professional, you free your head. This makes it easier to put something useful into your brain and direct your life in the right direction. The main rule that I learned thanks to my screen sessions is that life is much easier if you don’t lie. By inventing something, trying to get out of it, we complicate our own existence. It doesn’t matter that you don’t have the courage to admit, you need to do it, period... I note that the authors of the series consulted with practicing active specialists. The decisions that “psychologists” make are truly medically justified.”
"The Perfect Enemy"
One of the actor’s last works was in Igor Moskvitin’s detective melodrama “The Ideal Enemy” with Dmitry Ulyanov and Maria Mashkova in the lead roles.
Plot: Veronica Nesterenko (Maria Mashkova) is a police investigator. She is sure that everything in her life is perfect. She loves her job, where she is rightfully considered one of the best employees, and is happily married to her beloved husband Kostya, an IT specialist. Recently, the couple began to seriously think about having a child.
Gleb Kvitko (Dmitry Ulyanov) is a businessman, owner of a number of construction companies. He is married to the beautiful Lera (Elena Turbal). He has a daughter from his first marriage, Masha (Mila Sivatskaya), who does not hide her hostility towards her stepmother. Gleb always knew that Lera married him for money, but the news that his wife might be cheating on him greatly angered the businessman.
And suddenly the life paths of Gleb and Veronica crossed when, outside the city on the shore of a lake, the police discovered the bodies of Lera and Kostya...
Personal life
Roman, unlike his hero in La Dolce Vita, is happily married. He is an exemplary family man and father of many children. His wife Elena runs a small business.
The family has four children: Andrei, Anya, Yulia and Misha. The first three are from Elena’s first marriage, and the last is a common child with Roman. However, the artist himself considers them all his own.
Roman Mayakin about his wife: “I’m a wild guy, I have seven Fridays a week, and Lena slows me down all the time, calms me down. I love her as a woman and respect her as a friend. Fortunately, she has nothing to do with the acting profession. Two actors in a family is a lot.”
The large and friendly Mayakin family lives in the Moscow region, in a house that Roman’s father began to build, and the actor himself finished it.

Interview
About the theater:
“I worked there for seven years. Unfortunately (or fortunately), things went uphill for me in cinema, and the theater gradually faded into the background. Although, to be honest, I didn’t really mind it myself. Theater should bring pleasure, it should make you shake. And I was shaking from the cinema, I just got sick of it. Recently I went on stage again, performed at an enterprise, but have not yet understood whether I like theater or not. This really torments me."
About the roles:
“I can’t say that I dream of any special role. I will be happy to star in a historical project. And with the same pleasure I’ll run around with a machine gun, and with no less pleasure I’ll star in the sequel to La Dolce Vita. I like to work simply. And I enjoy it. But sitting and dreaming about the coveted role is not about me.”
About the profession:
“Acting is exactly the same craft that you need to master. And the main tool in this profession is yourself. The richer and deeper your life experience, the more interesting and convincing you are as an actor. And if things don’t work out, you have to blame yourself first. Not everything, of course, depends on us - the script may turn out to be uninteresting or the director will not fully clarify the task, but the face of the project is the actors. I even stopped looking at my latest works. Although we probably need to do this in order to understand where to go and develop.”
About family and work:
“If I am forced to choose between family and work, of course I will choose family. I don’t have the feeling that if I stop acting tomorrow, life will stop. Maybe in two years I’ll become a bartender and have a blast doing it. It’s just that some people turn their life into work and can’t think about anything else. Of course, when there is a need to discuss problems and seek advice, my wife and I do this. If it helps in some way to solve the problem, good. But work, first of all, should bring money into the house. It’s very cool when you make what you love as your profession and you can make money from it. I have ambitions, and I try to take certain steps to develop my career. But if I wasn’t approved for the role, it doesn’t always mean that I’m a bad actor, there are many external factors...”
About Me:
“For the time being, I was a home child, and then the street became addictive. You could say I was in a neighborhood gang. And straight from there I got into the theater. But I, like any person, certainly need care. That’s probably why my wife and I got together so early, I was only twenty-one years old. I wanted a family, close people.
In five years I lost my dad, mom and sister. There was a family - and suddenly it was gone. It is clear that the rehabilitation process has been going on for some time. And my wife helped me get out of this state - simply with her presence and care. By “care” I don’t mean that she washed my socks and cooked borscht for me. This is a broader concept that implies love and a feeling of warmth and security.”
About my wife:
“I believe that I make my own life, but at the same time there are things that I cannot explain. For example, a meeting with Lena. She and I are similar externally, but we are completely different internally. I love one thing, she loves another. At the beginning of our relationship, it seemed to me that she was mocking me. But in the end, I come to the conclusion that everything in our life is harmonious: what I lack is in it.
For example: I am terribly hot-tempered and can say a lot of nasty things in the heat of the moment. The wife has an amazing quality: she knows how to remain silent. I used to often ask her: “Why do you love me?” And she answered: “No way, just like that!” I don’t understand it myself.” I was outraged: what does “I don’t understand myself” mean? But in the end, this is probably how you should love - just like that.”
About education:
“I don’t even understand what it means to “educate”! We ourselves must serve as an example to our children. The problem of our time is that women change places with men. And men get used to living at the expense of women. But everything is simple: dad is strong, mom is beautiful. And if in a family the father is the breadwinner, the mother is the keeper of home warmth, then the children will build their family in the same way. This does not mean that a woman should be locked within four walls. Moreover, she must work, because boredom may cause her to have the wrong thoughts. My wife works and we have a small business.”
About hometown:
“This is a big beautiful city. Would you like me to tell you a legend? Catherine the Second, driving along the Vladimirsky Highway, was caught in a thunderstorm and stopped in the village of Rogozhi. In the morning I woke up and was delighted: the sun was shining, the birds were singing. She exclaimed: “This is a city born of God!” This is how its name appeared - Bogorodsk. And under Soviet rule it became Noginsk - in honor of the revolutionary.”
