Svetlana Morgunova was not only one of the first “goddesses of prime time,” she managed to become a truly popular favorite thanks to her high professionalism and impeccable reputation.
Childhood and youth
Svetlana Mikhailovna was born on March 6, 1940. In a few interviews, the artist does not mention this period of her biography. It is not difficult to guess that childhood, spent during the war and post-war years, was not easy. But my youth, which occurred during the thaw period, was filled with romantic dreams of cinema. The girl then lived on Arbat, next to the Vakhtangov Theater, and often went to performances, falling in love with the magical world of the theater.
Svetlana Morgunova in her youth
One day, Svetlana saw an advertisement that the famous director Yuri Zavadsky was recruiting for the youth group of the Mossovet Theater, and decided to try her luck.
“The competition was crazy. The hosts were the masters: Lyubov Orlova, Vera Maretskaya, Rostislav Plyatt. I’m proud that I got in,” says Morgunova.
However, fate took an unexpected turn. The girl again saw an advertisement about recruitment, this time it was about a school of announcers. The reception was hosted by Yuri Levitan himself. He became Morgunova’s “godfather” in the profession. Acting school was left behind, and the horizons of a new career were opening up ahead.

A television
Svetlana came to Central Television in 1961. And in 1962, she made her first appearance as a concert host on the stage of the Small Hall of the Conservatory. Already working as an announcer, Morgunova entered the university at the Faculty of Philology, and did her internship at the School of Working Youth.
Svetlana Morgunova in the program “Blue Light”
In the first years on TV, the announcer hosted episodes of the information program “Time”. Every day, in reading it, TV viewers learned about the program schedule. And since the late 60s, Svetlana Mikhailovna became the permanent TV presenter of the New Year’s “Blue Light”, which gathered the whole country from the screens.
In the 1970s, Morgunova lived in Japan for a year and did an internship there. At first she hosted an entertainment program, and then taught the Japanese the Russian language in the format of TV lessons.

The 70-80s became the culmination of her career: in addition to working on TV, Svetlana Mikhailovna hosts the country's main holiday concerts in the Kremlin Palace, the Column Hall of the House of Unions and other prestigious venues. She has led solo performances of such masters as Muslim Magomayev, Joseph Kobzon, Lev Leshchenko, Gennady Khazanov and many others.
“I was lucky, I had the good fortune to communicate with such talented people as Arno Babajanyan, Mark Fradkin, Evgeny Dolmatovsky, Mikhail Matusovsky, Yuri Gulyaev. This list can go on and on,” admits the presenter.
The acting lessons were not in vain: the artist took part in filming. In 1965 she starred in the film “In the First Hour,” and in 1972 in the film “Responsible for Everything.”

The announcer continued to work after retirement. She continued to broadcast at Ostankino, which became her home. Conducted concerts, creative evenings, and presentations. The TV personality was often invited to become a participant in TV shows.
Svetlana Mikhailovna admits that she is a little sad about her youth and the old days, when the requirements for announcer work were very high. Now, she says, the bar has noticeably lowered.
Alla Pugacheva, Muslim Magomaev, Svetlana Morgunova
For services in the field of culture in 1978, Svetlana Morgunova was awarded the title “Honored Artist of the RSFSR”, in 2000 the announcer became a People’s Artist of Russia, and in 2011 she was awarded the honorary “Order of Friendship” “for great services in the development of domestic television and radio broadcasting and many years of fruitful activity".
Personal life and family of the actor
He lived in a civil marriage with his first wife for 10 years. It was the Bolshoi Theater ballerina Varvara Ryabtseva. She was 13 years older than Evgeniy Morgunov. Life did not work out for the artist and his wife, ballerina Varvara Ryabtseva.
Evgeniy met his second wife in 1963. Natalya tried to call the institute, but accidentally dialed the number of her friend, with whom Morgunov was visiting at that time. Evgeniy picked up the phone and introduced himself as an employee of the department. He asked Natalya for her phone number and called her several times in this capacity. He eventually admitted to the prank. Gradually they started dating. The wedding took place in 1965. His wife Natalya Nikolaevna Morgunova was born in 1940 and was 13 years younger than the actor.
They had two sons: Nikolai and Anton. The eldest son, Anton Evgenievich Morgunov, was born in 1966, and Nikolai in 1972. Varvara supported her husband in everything and tried to monitor his health. However, Evgeny Morgunov, despite his illness, did not adhere to any diets. His youngest son, Nikolai Evgenievich Morgunov, died in 1998. The cause was a traffic accident. The following year, 1999, on June 25, the actor died. After his death, the actor’s grandchildren and granddaughter remained.
Personal life
There were a lot of rumors about the personal life of the TV star, which is not surprising: Morgunova was one of the first beauties on Soviet TV, whose photos adorned famous magazines. Millions of women imitated the style icon: they copied their hairstyle, makeup, and manner of dressing.

Persistent rumors linked her and the famous singer Muslim Magomayev with romantic ties. Many years later, Morgunova dispelled this myth.
“I often hosted his concerts. And mutual sympathy existed. We were friends with Muslim and his wife Tamara Sinyavskaya. As for novels, no, I don’t allow that in my work,” admitted Svetlana Mikhailovna.
The woman was married twice. The first husband - the father of Maxim's son - died, the second marriage broke up. The third time, the woman did not try to start a family. She lived with her son and mother, whom she jokingly called “the general of the house” for her strict disposition.
Maxim Morgunov, son of Svetlana Morgunova
Mom Morgunova passed away in 2007. For Svetlana, her departure was a terrible blow. My son’s work and care saved me. The TV presenter considers the day when Maxim was born the happiest in his life, and is proud that he is an authority for him both in life and in his profession.
“I am a happy mother because I have a real man with me. If a woman wants to please men, she must first of all please her sons,” she believes.
Maxim Morgunov, like his mother, works on television. Graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of the Peoples' Friendship University named after Patrice Lumumba. Since 2003, his author’s program “Military Affairs” has been broadcast on the NTV channel. Maxim is married, whether he has children is unknown.
Acting and directing works
The first film in which Morgunov showed himself was “Young Guard” in 1948. Many considered the performance of this role brilliant. There was talk about awarding a prize for its performance, but this issue was resolved negatively in order not to popularize the image of a traitor.
For more than ten years, the actor received roles in patriotic films. All-Union fame came to Evgeny Morgunov along with the role of Experienced in the films of Leonid Gaidai. He played the leading role in the films: “Operation Y and other adventures of Shurik”, “Prisoner of the Caucasus”. However, Morgunov’s difficult character played a role here. One day, the actor invited fans to the set without Gaidai’s permission. After this, a conflict broke out. As a result, Gaidai decided that instead of Morgunov, his role would be played by an understudy.
This incident greatly damaged the actor's reputation. Subsequently, for many years he received episodic or minor roles.
However, this was not always the case. Evgeny Morgunov played roles in the famous films “Pokrovsky Gate”, “Ilf and Petrov Rode on a Tram”, “The Tale of Lost Time”, “Three Fat Men”.
In the last years of his life, he played roles in the films “Bolotnaya Street”, “Womanizer-2”, “Apple of Paradise”, “Good Guys”, “My Grandfather’s Imperial Treasures”. The last picture was Russian-American and was released not only in Russia, but also in the USA.
The director's work was the film "When the Cossacks Cry."
Svetlana Morgunova now
In the summer of 2020, the Internet was flooded with news that Svetlana Morgunova was going through a difficult period in her life, suffering from depression and loneliness, and abusing alcohol. The online publication Daily Storm published a refutation of the information by the artist herself. The announcer complained of feeling unwell, without specifying the cause of the illness.
“Everything is fine with me,” she convinced reporters.
Svetlana Morgunova in 2020 at the funeral of Joseph Kobzon
In September, Svetlana Morgunova appeared at the funeral of Joseph Kobzon. She had a warm relationship with the Soviet pop legend: the artists went on tour more than once, the TV personality held dozens of the master’s concerts. In addition, she could not help but support her close friend Nelly Kobzon in her grief.
Eyewitnesses who saw the 78-year-old TV presenter at the farewell ceremony report that the woman has aged greatly and has difficulty moving without assistance.
An excerpt characterizing Morgunov, Svetlana Mikhailovna
“He wants to watch the battle,” Zherkov said to Bolkonsky, pointing to the auditor, “but his stomach hurts.” “Well, that’s enough for you,” said the auditor with a beaming, naive and at the same time sly smile, as if he was flattered that he was the subject of Zherkov’s jokes, and as if he was deliberately trying to seem stupider than he really was. - Tres drole, mon monsieur prince, [[Very funny, my lord prince,] said the officer on duty. (He remembered that in French they specifically say the title prince, and could not get it right.) At that time they were all already approaching the Tushin battery, and a cannonball hit in front of them. - Why did it fall? – the auditor asked, smiling naively. “French flatbreads,” said Zherkov. - This is what they hit you with, then? – asked the auditor. - What passion! And he seemed to be blooming with pleasure. He had barely finished speaking when an unexpectedly terrible whistle was heard again, which suddenly stopped with a blow to something liquid, and sh sh sh slap - the Cossack, riding somewhat to the right and behind the auditor, collapsed with his horse to the ground. Zherkov and the duty officer bent down in their saddles and turned their horses away. The auditor stopped in front of the Cossack, examining him with attentive curiosity. The Cossack was dead, the horse was still struggling. Prince Bagration, squinting, looked around and, seeing the cause of the confusion, turned away indifferently, as if saying: is it worth engaging in nonsense! He stopped his horse with the manner of a good rider, leaned over a little and straightened the sword that had caught on his cloak. The sword was old, not like the ones they used now. Prince Andrei remembered the story of how Suvorov in Italy presented his sword to Bagration, and at that moment this memory was especially pleasant to him. They drove up to the very battery where Bolkonsky stood when he was looking at the battlefield. - Whose company? – Prince Bagration asked the fireworksman standing by the boxes. He asked: whose company? but in essence he asked: aren’t you shy here? And the fireworksman understood this. “Captain Tushin, your Excellency,” the red-haired fireworksman, with a freckled face covered in freckles, shouted, stretching out in a cheerful voice. “So, so,” Bagration said, thinking something, and drove past the limbers to the outermost gun. While he was approaching, a shot rang out from this gun, deafening him and his retinue, and in the smoke that suddenly surrounded the gun, the artillerymen were visible, picking up the gun and, hastily straining, rolling it to its original place. The broad-shouldered, huge soldier 1st with a banner, legs spread wide, jumped towards the wheel. The 2nd, with a shaking hand, put the charge into the barrel. A small, stooped man, Officer Tushin, tripped over his trunk and ran forward, not noticing the general and looking out from under his small hand. “Add two more lines, it will be just like that,” he shouted in a thin voice, to which he tried to give a youthful appearance that did not suit his figure. - Second! - he squeaked. - Smash it, Medvedev!
