Mikhail Boyarsky in childhood
The Boyarsky family is famous for its rich history and roots. Mikhail Sergeevich’s grandfather, Alexander Ivanovich Boyarsky, was the archpriest and rector of the Church of the Savior on Sennaya, and since 1926, the rector of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. Grandmother Ekaterina Nikolaevna Boyanovskaya is a hereditary noblewoman, a graduate of the Smolny Institute of Noble Maidens. Mikhail Boyarsky is Russian by nationality.

The Boyarsky family lived in a communal apartment on Goncharnaya Street. Mikhail Sergeevich recalled in an interview that five of them had to be crammed into a 6-meter room with a stove.

The rich library had to be sold to buy food and clothing. The actor does not like to talk about his childhood, but willingly and with great tenderness he recalls his grandmother Ekaterina Nikolaevna, the “heart” of the Boyarsky family. The woman adored her numerous grandchildren, raising her children in the traditions of the Russian Orthodox intelligentsia and Christian culture.

Mikhail Boyarsky in childhood with his mother
As a child, Mikhail Boyarsky felt like the center of a small universe: his parents and brother doted on Misha, took him to museums and theaters, read books and entertained him with games. Despite this, the boy grew up as an adventurer, got involved in street fights and found adventures.

When their son was 7 years old, his parents noticed his interest in music and sent him to school at the conservatory, where Mikhail Boyarsky learned to play the piano. Ekaterina and Sergei hoped that their son would become a great musician. The boyars drank their share of acting and did not want Misha to follow in their footsteps. But first the eldest and then the youngest son went to theater universities.

Mikhail Boyarsky in his youth
It is unknown how his parents reacted to Alexander’s decision, but Mikhail’s father and mother told him that he should not count on patronage.

No intervention was needed: the young man easily entered LGITMiK, where he gained experience under the guidance of the talented actor and playwright Leonid Makariev. Mikhail studied willingly and was remembered by teachers for his inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge.

Social activity

Supports the policies pursued by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev. In particular, he attributes to V.V. Putin the opening of the country’s borders in the early 1990s:

K. Larina

: — It wasn’t Putin who opened the borders, sorry.
M. Boyarsky
: - Who did it?
K. Larina
: - Borders?
In my opinion, after all, our borders were open after 1990. M. Boyarsky
: - So consider that from that time on he already began to influence this...
K. Larina
: - Vladimir Putin?
M. Boyarsky
: - Vladimir Vladimirovich, yes. And now it has become possible to study in any country...

— Interview on the radio station “Echo of Moscow”, program “Dithyramb”[41]

By his own admission, he is a conservative and supporter of the monarchy, an opponent of communist views.

...I am completely and completely for Putin, for his successor, for the country to develop as they intended. This is very important for me, I am simply shocked by the percentages that the communist Zyuganov has. It’s just a mystery to me how much you can step on a rake. That is why I could not afford not to go and vote for Medvedev. I am categorically against any communist proposals. Then there will be no Gazprom, no anything else, no skating rinks, no sports. There will be Khrushchev buildings, there will be bombed churches, it will be equal for everyone. Zyuganov will take most of it for himself, out of nomenklatura habit. Therefore, I am categorically against this.

— Interview on the radio station “Echo of Moscow”, program “Dithyramb” with Ksenia Larina, 2008[41]

In 2001, he signed a letter in defense of the NTV channel[42].

In 2003, he supported Valentina Matvienko during the pre-election campaign for the election of governor of St. Petersburg. He has repeatedly supported the construction project of the Gazprom City skyscraper (since 2007 - Okhta Center). He starred in commercials for this project. In 2009, he issued an open letter to President Dmitry Medvedev for the construction of the Okhta Center. At the same time, many city residents actively opposed the project, and in December 2010 the decision to build it on the historical Okhtinsky Cape was canceled.

Mikhail Boyarsky and Vladimir Putin, October 7, 2000

On February 6, 2012, he was officially registered as a proxy of the candidate for President of the Russian Federation and the current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for the third term [43].

G. S. Poltavchenko’s panegyric was his review of the governor’s report in 2013: “There is a real leader at the helm, at the helm of our city. This is a true Petersburger, in love with the city, amazingly able-bodied, who has touched on all the problems of our city, who is competent in all layers of our problems...”[44].

In 2014, he signed a Collective Appeal of cultural figures of the Russian Federation in support of the policies of Russian President V.V. Putin in Ukraine and Crimea[45].

In August 2020, the SBU added Boyarsky to the list of cultural figures whose actions pose a threat to the national security of Ukraine[46].

In September 2020, he became a confidant of the United Russia party in the elections to the State Duma of the 7th convocation.

In January 2020, he was registered as a confidant of Vladimir Putin in the presidential elections on March 18, 2020 for a fourth term [47].

In June 2020, he spoke out in favor of raising the retirement age.

In December 2020, in a conversation with the general director of the Dozhd TV channel, Natalya Sindeeva, he spoke in favor of introducing censorship in the field of cinema and theaters and for the re-establishment of artistic councils.[48]

He was the co-chairman of the movement “For the Rights of Smokers”, created in the spring of 2012, opposing the Government’s proposed bill No. 163560-6 “On protecting public health from the effects of environmental tobacco smoke and the consequences of tobacco consumption.”[49] Member of the Public Chamber Maxim Mishchenko also calls M. S. Boyarsky the face of the tobacco lobby.[50]

Theater

Mikhail Boyarsky graduated from a theater university and got a job at the Lensovet Theater, where he met the future stars of Soviet cinema. Director Igor Vladimirov accepted yesterday’s student into the troupe. Boyarsky’s theatrical biography began with the role of a student in the crowd of the play “Crime and Punishment.” The image of the Troubadour in the musical “Troubadour and His Friends” brought Mikhail his first popularity: the aspiring actor was noticed and involved in the performances of director Igor Vladimirov.

Larisa Luppian and Mikhail Boyarsky in the play “Troubadour and His Friends”
The artist’s explosive temperament, plasticity and musicality encouraged directors to trust Boyarsky in the role of daredevils and adventurers, courageous heroes and rogues. Performances with Mikhail were sold out, and the audience saw off the young actor with a standing ovation.

In the production of “Dulcinea Toboso,” Mikhail Boyarsky played the philosopher Louis, who is in love with the main character. This is the actor's first stage duet with Alisa Freindlich. Boyarsky performed leading roles in the main productions of the Lensovet Theater. Together with Igor Vladimirov, he played brilliantly in the play “Interview in Buenos Aires.” The artist’s works include leading roles in the plays “Piano on the High Seas” and “Hurry to Do Good.”

In the 1980s, the theater went through difficult times: the actors with whom Mikhail Sergeevich played the best roles left it, and there was discord in the troupe. The last straw for Boyarsky was the dismissal of Alisa Brunovna Freundlich.

Mikhail Boyarsky in the theater
Mikhail Boyarsky left the Lensovet Theater in 1986. On the stage of the Leningrad Komsomol Theater, the actor played Rivares in the musical “The Gadfly.” In 1988 he created and headed the Benefit Theater. On its stage, Mikhail Sergeevich staged the play “Intimate Life”, which received a prize at the international festival “Winter Avignon”.

In 2007, the St. Petersburg city council took the premises from the theater. Mikhail Sergeevich failed to defend his beloved brainchild, and “Benefit” closed.

2 years after this event, the actor returned to the stage of the Lensovet Theater. Spectators watched Boyarsky play in productions of The Threepenny Opera, A Man and a Gentleman and Mixed Feelings.

Tragic accident

In the new year of 1979, the artist pleased his fans by appearing on stage together with the bright and young show business star Olga Zarubina, performing a duet of the song “It Shouldn’t Be This Way.” This incredible performance forced viewers to switch to the channel, where they could hear the voice and congratulations of the magnificent actor.

Later that year, Mikhail Boyarsky, whose biography is still of interest to admirers of his work, gets into a terrible accident. The actor, who ascended to the Olympus of cinema, ended up in the hospital, and when he came to, he learned that his spine was broken.

Still from the film “Dog in the Manger”

This news shocked the entire USSR. Fans of the work of the romantic and brave hero could not believe the shocking headlines that Boyarsky was dying in intensive care. And then there was silence. Fans learned about what really happened in the summer of 1979 many years later.

Mikhail Boyarsky was on his way to shoot a new film, and his biography could have ended on that day, but the actor, whose nationality is Jewish, survived. Several teams of surgeons fought for his life, who did not want to let the famous artist go to another world. All this time, Mikhail Sergeevich was on the verge of death, but did not want to cross the line. After all, in his life there were still so many unplayed roles and unsung songs. It was too early and disappointing to leave.

When Boyarsky was transferred to the hospital, his body was completely covered in plaster, and the surgeons hoped for their own professionalism and a miracle. But the chance that he would be able to walk again was minimal. However, the brave D'Artagnan did not lose heart, making serious plans for the future and telling funny stories to his roommates. He was convinced that he would get up and go to filming, which had to be postponed due to a minor injury.

And as soon as the cast was removed from the actor, the patient almost immediately went to the shooting of the film “The Matchmaking of a Hussar.” Despite the hellish pain and prohibitions from doctors who insisted on bed rest, the actor starred in the film take after take. And then came pain-relieving injections and relaxing massages. But Boyarsky played the main role of Ivan Fedorovich Nalimov to the end, and in 1979 the film was released.

Admiring viewers watched the movie several times to see again this madness of the actor who starred in the film despite everything. And in 1980, the brilliant Boyarsky played the role of the popular singer Vadim Eduardov in the short film “The Incomparable Nakonechnikov.” And then many roles followed in Soviet, Russian and foreign films.

Movies

While a student, Mikhail Boyarsky made his film debut, playing the main role in the Moldovan film “Bridges” together with Mihai Volontir. The film did not bring fame to the actor, but added experience. The following year, Boyarsky played a supporting role in the musical comedy “Straw Hat” by Leonid Kvinikhidze, on the set of which he met Andrei Mironov and Lyudmila Gurchenko.

Nikolai Karachentsov and Mikhail Boyarsky in the film “The Elder Son”
In 1975, the psychological drama “The Elder Son” was released. In the film, Boyarsky played in a brilliant duet with Nikolai Karachentsov and met with Evgeny Leonov. The film, which took its place in the golden fund of Soviet cinema, was watched by millions of television viewers.

Boyarsky gained great popularity after the release of the musical “Dog in the Manger,” where a stately, characterful young man was entrusted with playing the main character. The professionalism of the film crew and the amazing cast of the musical comedy by Jan Fried made the film a sensation in the world of Soviet cinema. Mikhail Boyarsky played Teodoro, who is in love with the heroine Margarita Terekhova. Armen Dzhigarkhanyan and young Elena Proklova appeared in the film.

At first, Fried approved Boyarsky for the supporting role of the Marquis Ricardo, Diana’s envious fiancé, and for the role of Teodoro he considered Oleg Dahl and Oleg Yankovsky. But after the tests, Yan Borisovich proposed Teodoro to Boyarsky, and Ricardo to Karachentsov.

Mikhail Boyarsky won the status of a star of the first magnitude and sex symbol of the Soviet Union in 1979, when the 3-episode musical adventure comedy “D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers” was released. Initially, Alexander Abdulov was planned for the role of the main character. Georgy Yungvald-Khilkevich saw Boyarsky as Rochefort, then offered him the choice of Athos or Aramis.

Lev Durov and Mikhail Boyarsky on the set of the film "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers"
The idea to entrust the role of D'Artagnan to Mikhail belongs to composer Maxim Dunaevsky. At the auditions, Boyarsky captivated the director with his bright temperament and expression. The tall (1.85 m) and thin guy corresponded to the idea of a poor and recklessly brave Gascon. The image of d'Artagnan became Mikhail Boyarsky's calling card for decades, and songs from the film turned into hits. Subsequently, the actor played the brave Gascon in the sequel to the Musketeer film.

Since 1978, dozens of directors have been in line “for Boyarsky.” Every year the actor starred in 3-5 films. Until 1990, the artist’s filmography was replenished with 30 films. The audience enthusiastically watched Svetlana Druzhinina’s musical comedy “The Matchmaking of a Hussar” and her first film about midshipmen, “Midshipmen, Forward!”, where Mikhail Boyarsky played vivid characters.

Mikhail Boyarsky - “Lanfren-Lanfra” (song from the film “Midshipmen, forward!”)

In Alla Surikova's comedy-western "The Man from the Boulevard des Capucines" the actor was seen in the image of Black Jack, and in the adventure drama of Yungvald-Khilkevich "The Prisoner of the Chateau d'If" Boyarsky played the insidious Fernand de Moncer.

In 1989, 2 films beloved by millions were released - “Don Cesar de Bazan” and “The Art of Living in Odessa”. In the first film, directed by Jan Fried, Mikhail Boyarsky received the main role, in the second, Yungvald-Khilkevich cast the artist in the role of a hypnotist.

In the 90s, Mikhail Boyarsky starred in 10 films. Viewers saw their favorite artist in the continuation of the story about the musketeers, “Tartuffe” by Jan Fried, the melodrama “Cranberries in Sugar”, the series “Queen Margot” and “The Waiting Room”. In the 90s, Boyarsky focused on his musical career. In an interview, Mikhail Sergeevich said that he had a lot of offers from directors, but there were no roles that would hook him.

Mikhail Boyarsky - “Thank you, dear!”

But Boyarsky’s fans heard songs performed by him, which became hits: “Green-Eyed Taxi”, “Thank you, dear!”, “City Flowers”, “Everything will pass” and “Leaves are Burnt”. Mikhail Boyarsky collaborated with Maxim Dunaevsky, Viktor Reznikov and Leonid Derbenev. The song “Sokolniki” with music by Vladimir Migulya and lyrics by Larisa Rubalskaya became the anthem of the ancient park. Collaboration with composer Viktor Maltsev resulted in two solo CDs by Boyarsky - “The Road Home” and “Count Lane”.

In terms of the number of hits sung, Mikhail Boyarsky competes with Nikolai Karachentsov: both have unique voice timbres, recognizable from the first sounds. Boyarsky's musical talent increased his army of fans significantly. The singer's concerts were sold out, the performer was asked to sing the hits "Thank you for your son and for your daughter", "Big Bear", "Ap!", songs from the films "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers" ("Constance", "Song of the Musketeers") and “Midshipmen, forward!” (“Lanfren-Lanfra”).

Mikhail Boyarsky - “Green-Eyed Taxi”

In the 2000s, the idol rarely indulges viewers with appearances in feature films. Mikhail Boyarsky does not agree to play in low-grade TV series about gangsters and cops, so fans see the star in films that claim to be “high cinema.”

The People's Artist gave preference to director Vladimir Bortko, starring in his TV series “The Idiot”, “Taras Bulba” and “Peter the First. Will". In the last film, Mikhail Boyarsky appeared in the image of Prince Dmitry Cantemir, and his daughter Elizaveta Boyarskaya played Maria Cantemir.

Mikhail Boyarsky - “Everything will pass”

In 2013, Andrei Kavun’s series “Sherlock Holmes” was released, where Holmes and Watson were played by Igor Petrenko and Andrei Panin. Boyarsky appeared in the role of Inspector Lestrade.

In 2020, viewers saw their favorite artist in Anton Sivers’ crime detective “Black Cat.” Mikhail Boyarsky surprised fans by deviating from the rule of not starring in crime series, but the director gathered famous artists on the set. The film about a gang operating in the 50s stars Igor Petrenko, Konstantin Lavronenko, Alexey Shevchenkov, Gela Meskhi and Elena Tsyplakova.

The People's Artist supports the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin and signed an appeal from Russian cultural figures in support of the president's policies in Ukraine and Crimea, for which the Security Service of Ukraine added the actor to the list of people prohibited from entering the country.

In the fall of 2020, Mikhail Boyarsky became a confidant of the United Russia party in the elections to the State Duma.

New heights

The artist performed at the Lensovet Theater for 14 years, playing leading roles in famous and popular performances of that time. But in 1986, he left the stage and headed his own brainchild, becoming both its director and artistic director. The Benefit Theater existed in St. Petersburg until 2007, attracting full audiences. The performances staged by the directors of this institution were regularly awarded prizes at international festivals.

From 1968 to 1969, Mikhail Boyarsky performed in his own rock group “Nomads”, and from 1995 to 2002 in the group “Silver”. Over the years of film work, Boyarsky sang more than 600 songs with his inimitable timbre, which is always recognizable by listeners.

Mikhail Boyarsky in the film “Elder Son”

Boyarsky Mikhail received his first roles in the film “Matches are not a toy for children” (1959), and then in the films “Bridges” (1973) and “Straw Hat” (1974), which became his film debut, and the artist’s biography subsequently interested the entire Union . But due to the fact that immediately after the release of the last film, the actor was drafted into the army, he had to temporarily stop filming. Typically, for the sake of his beloved Larisa, he repeatedly went AWOL. The return from the army for Boyarsky was stellar. He starred in several films at once:

  • tragicomedy “The Eldest Son” (1975) directed by Vitaly Melnikov, in the bright image of “Silva”, Sevastyanov Semyon Paramonovich;
  • the comedy “Wild Gavrila” (1976) directed by Leonid Makarychev, telling about the life of the circus;
  • the musical fairy tale “Mother” (1976), directed by Elisabeth Bostan, where he played the main role of the Wolf;
  • film adaptation based on Lope de Vega's play "Dog in the Manger" (1977), directed by Jan Frieda in the role of Teodoro.

In 1979, a film adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s novel “D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers” was released, where the delightful Mikhail Boyarsky played the role of a charming Gascon. The three-part adventure film brought the actor all-Union fame, making the actor recognizable and beloved by adults and the younger generation.

Still from the film "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers"

From that moment on, not a single child growing up in the USSR could imagine Boyarsky without a white horse on which he would ride to solve all problems. The yard boys played musketeers, listened to songs performed by the national artist and competed for the opportunity to enter the image of the brave D'Artagnan.

In subsequent years, Boyarsky Mikhail became recognizable to every resident of the USSR, and his biography was known to everyone. Spectators began to attend theater performances where the artist played and watch movies with the youth idol to see him in a new image. Boyarsky even starred in commercials, which at that time was something bordering on fantasy for actors.

Personal life

The actor’s personal life developed successfully in his youth and throughout his life. Mikhail Boyarsky met his future wife Larisa Luppian on the stage of the Lensovet Theater. The couple met in the play “Troubadour and His Friends,” where Boyarsky was entrusted with the main role, and Larisa played the princess.

Luppian admitted that she noticed Boyarsky at the institute, but then she did not like the guy with his head shaved. On stage, Larisa took a closer look at the charming guy and found him handsome. Mikhail Boyarsky turned out to be the life of the party: people were drawn to the witty and generous Misha like the sun.

The theater director did not like the romance between Boyarsky and Luppian: he condemned the connections between the actors of the troupe and threatened to fire the “violators.” But the couple was not afraid of threats and began to live together in a 13-meter room allocated to Larisa by the theater. The freedom-loving Mikhail Boyarsky was in no hurry to get married, but, realizing that he couldn’t find a better girl than this beautiful and gentle girl, he took Larisa to the registry office.

Mikhail Boyarsky with his wife and children
In 1980, the first-born Seryozha appeared in the acting family. As a child, Sergei Boyarsky played in two films, and his parents expected the boy to choose an acting profession. But Sergei took a different path: he is a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from United Russia. His family has two children growing up - girls Ekaterina and Alexandra.

Daughter Elizaveta Boyarskaya was born in December 1985. The girl was not interested in acting, but it was she who followed in the footsteps of her parents and continued the dynasty.

Larisa Luppian sacrificed her career for the sake of her husband and children and did not regret her choice. The family went through many difficulties: the star actor was pursued by fans, and he could not resist temptations. Touring, all-Union popularity and acting companies turned out to be a breeding ground for a wild lifestyle.

Mikhail Boyarsky in 2020
The artist tries to keep up with the times, so he gladly agrees to participate in music festivals. In July 2018, Boyarsky became a guest of VK FEST, where Elena Temnikova, rapper Basta, Monetochka, Dzhigan and other performers also performed.

Mikhail Sergeevich does not forget to expand his filmography. Now the adventure film “Midshipmen-1787” is in the works, in which the actor will once again play the hero of Brillya. The premiere of the children's fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” is scheduled for 2020. Online” directed by Natalya Bondarchuk, in which Mikhail Boyarsky will play a supporting role. Dmitry Kharatyan, Boris Grachevsky, Elizaveta Arzamasova, Alexander Golovin will also appear on the stage.

Childhood

Boyarsky Mikhail Sergeevich was born on December 26, 1949 in Leningrad. The boy's parents worked as theater actors. As he grew older, young Boyarsky was initially skeptical about film roles, however, one of them would bring him all-Union fame in the future.

The family did not live richly, but love and harmony reigned in it. According to Mikhail Boyarsky, he still clearly remembers episodes from the past that are associated with his parents. The future artist developed a very special relationship with his mother. Mikhail Boyarsky's wife Larisa Luppian directly calls her husband a mama's boy.

Misha Boyarsky brought his first salary to Ekaterina Mikhailovna. The situation repeated itself with the young man’s subsequent earnings. Even after getting married, Boyarsky continued to take money to his mother. When his wife started talking about money, Boyarsky asked what exactly she wanted to buy, because he had to ask his mother for the exact amount.

According to Boyarsky, he did this because he wanted his mother to understand that she would never have to ask for a loan again. Ekaterina Mikhailovna herself left the acting profession after the birth of Mikhail, preferring directing work on television. However, long-time fans of Boyarsky in the image of D'Artagnan remember the woman's cameo role in the film "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers", where she defended her son's character from the attacks of the guards.

However, users of social networks are more interested in the origin of the idol than the actor’s childhood. The most frequent request on the Internet about Mikhail Boyarsky is the topic of his nationality.

Nationality

Mikhail Boyarsky is Russian by nationality. However, due to his striking appearance, many social media users are wondering about the ancestors of the famous artist. According to Boyarsky, finding his ancestors is not so easy because of two historical events that his family experienced in the past - the revolution of 1917 and the Great Patriotic War. Nevertheless, the press managed to find out something about the origin of the living legend of first Soviet and then Russian cinema.

The artist’s daughter, actress Elizaveta Boyarskaya, at one time became interested in the issue of family history. The girl did a serious job of searching for information about her ancestors. As part of the program “My Pedigree,” viewers learned that Mikhail Boyarsky had Poles in his family. However, the genetic test that Boyarsky did for the “Health” program with Elena Malysheva showed much more interesting things.

According to the results of the examination, the blood of the sultans of the Ottoman Empire, Kazakhs, Italians, French and many other nationalities flows in the veins of Mikhail Boyarsky. As for the artist himself, he recognizes himself as a Russian, a St. Petersburger and, of course, a fan of the Zenit football club. The actor and singer rarely wears a scarf with the symbols of their favorite team. According to the star, there were times when he even wore it in the bathhouse.

In his youth, Mikhail Boyarsky was a theater snob. globallookpress.com / Yury Pilipenko

Real name

It is known that Mikhail Boyarsky could gain fame as Mikhail Segenyuk. His grandfather, Aleksandr Ivanovich, was born with this last name. However, before entering the theological academy, I decided to change it to a more harmonious one.

The young man preferred his mother's maiden name. The future grandmother of Mikhail Sergeevich met Alexander when he was already Boyarsky. It is noteworthy that Ekaterina Ivanovna Boyanovskaya herself came from a noble family. The girl's parents did not support her marriage to a commoner, which, however, did not stop the lovers.

Photo of Mikhail Boyarsky before and after plastic surgery

Mikhail does not need the help of plastic surgeons, because he does not mind his age and old age. A real man is like wine and only gets better with age. So Mikhail, in his youth was an ardent seducer, and now he is a thoughtful and impressive man who can still turn the head of more than one beauty, but let’s hope that he will not look at anyone other than his wife. You will not find true photos of Mikhail Boyarsky before and after plastic surgery, because, as the actor himself says, he did not seek the help of plastic surgeons. His “rejuvenating apple” is his children, his wife and, of course, his beloved grandson, who does not allow his grandfather to rest even for a second.
