November 9 2008 – WSOP Main Event finalists

Unlike many of his rival finalists, Vanya did not sit around waiting, but went to the WSOPE, the European equivalent of the World Series. And there he took third place, earning $608 thousand.

But, of course, the main goal was the WSOP bracelet. Moreover, Ivan entered the final table with the second largest stack, so he had every chance to compete for the main prize: more than $9 million.

One of the most interesting hands of the “finals” in which our player participated was the hand against chip leader Dennis Phillips:

There were different opinions about this hack of the two biggest stacks at the table. Some thought Vanya's prank was brilliant, others criticized him for being too aggressive. Demidov himself commented on the distribution as follows:

“I played like that because of a tell on him, which I received in one of the WSOPE tournaments - we played at the same table. He also limped and re-raised with jacks there. But he never played like that with the strongest hands. So I concluded that this is how he plays average strength hands.”

Victory in this hand gave Ivan a huge amount of chips, with which he successfully reached heads-up against the youngest finalist, 22-year-old Peter Eastgate from Denmark. He was one of the strongest competitors at the table.

The final hand of Ivan Demidov against Peter Eastgate looked like this:
