Consuelo de Aviland

(French
Consuelo de Haviland
, born 1955, New York) is a dancer, actress and French-American writer. Representative of the President of JSC Russian Railways in France[1].

[edit] Biography

She was born in New York into a family of Aviland porcelain makers.

She studied classical dance in Paris and Sofia.

According to her own statement, she became a passionate fan of Russia from the age of 12, when she read the novel “The Fencing Teacher” by Alexandre Dumas. She participated in the promotion of the Avignon Festival in Russia, was responsible for the “Russian Seasons” of this festival, and danced in joint Russian-French performances.

In 1987, she published the novel Dondukov Boulevard, a fictionalized account of her own life.

Since 1998, she has been married to actor Igor Kostolevsky, who starred in films as her favorite hero, the Decembrist Annenkov, she converted to Orthodoxy with the name Evdokia, and likes to call herself Dusya Kostolevskaya[1][2]. Due to her husband’s refusal to move to Paris, she had to sacrifice her acting profession[3].

Representing the president of Russian Railways in France, Consuelo actively contributed to the restoration in 2006 of the railway connection between Paris and Moscow, interrupted 12 years ago (due to a fire near Paris in one of the Russian-made carriages)[2].

Igor Kostolevsky and Consuelo celebrated the France-Russia Year 2010 with their first joint interview, to which Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Nicolas Sarkozy helped persuade them[4].

On December 10, 2020, in the Catherine Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace, Consuelo de Aviland was awarded the Order of Friendship for her active work[5][6].

The actor’s filmography includes more than 50 films, including “Re-Wedding”, “The Dawns Here Are Quiet”, “Legitimate Marriage”, “Nameless Star” and other masterpieces of Soviet cinema.

Igor Matveevich was born on September 10, 1948 in Moscow. The boy's family was intelligent. The parents' work activities are closely connected with the trading industry. Father Kostolevsky Matvey Matveevich was the head of the All-Union Association - Exportles, and mother Vita Semyonovna became a faithful assistant and right hand. Igor studied well, boxing was among his hobbies, but after some time the young man realized that sport was not the place where he should realize himself and gave up his hobby.

After graduating from school, he worked for several years as a tester for the quartz industry, and later became a student at the Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering. In the middle of the third year, he decides to leave the institute and enters GITIS on the course of Andrei Goncharov. Literally from his first roles, it becomes clear that this is his calling and the actor is rapidly breaking into domestic cinema. Throughout his life, Kostolevsky will receive many awards and prizes, and on April 29, 2019 he will be awarded the Order of Friendship.

In one of the interviews, the actor shared that the young man fell in love for the first time at the age of 13. The girl's name was Natalya. They had a fun time walking together. Igor saved money to buy ice cream for the girl on the weekend.

The first kiss happened 2 years later and, as the actor recalls, the guy thought that at that moment his heart would jump out of his chest. Having grown up, Igor was looking for himself not only as a theater and film actor, he really wanted to meet his first adult love, to experience a serious relationship.

Actress Elena Romanova - Kostolevsky's wife

She was the main character in the film “Vacation at your own expense,” where she played the bride of the main character, played by Igor. Kostolevsky and Elena (now ex-wife) had an age difference of 10 years. They had a lot in common and there was no discrepancy in years between them. They were united by art, an incredible desire to achieve recognition, and both also wanted to quickly enter adulthood.

For the sake of her lover, Elena moved from the Satire Theater to the Moscow Academic Theater, where Igor worked. The young couple's relationship developed rapidly and they soon decided to get married.

This was the first marriage for Elena and Igor. They got married in 1981, two years later the young family had their first child, named Alexey. This was a long-awaited child, Igor simply doted on his son and tried to spend all his free time with him. Elena left her career and devoted herself entirely to the newborn Alexei.

As can be seen from numerous interviews, Kostolevsky’s first wife always remembers her youth and her ex-husband with tenderness.

Even though our marriage is broken and Igor now has a new family, I know for sure that we were happy in our marriage

- says Elena.

After the divorce, there were complaints and justified grievances, but we were able to survive all this without much loss. Today there are some disagreements regarding his son Alexei, but I believe that he has grown up a long time ago and has the right to decide for himself how to live and what to enjoy.

When asked by the journalist how she was able to forgive her husband after the betrayal, she says that when the heart loves, it is ready to forgive a lot. She admits that it was not easy when she found out about her husband’s mistress.

Igor Kostolevsky's wife - Consuelo de Aviland

The love story with his second wife happened during the production of the play “Odyssey,” where Kostolevsky and his future wife played the main roles. Igor liked the young, energetic and cheerful girl at first sight. He realized that this was more than a hobby. At the end of the working day, when the actors went home, Igor was next to me.

While saying goodbye, he kissed me right on the lips. I thought it was a Russian tradition, because Brezhnev also kissed everyone

– the woman laughs.

He casually said that his marriage is in the process of divorce and now his heart is waiting for his chosen one

- Consuelo recalls. In order not to miss his chance, Kostolevsky invited her to a restaurant. So they began an affair, which later developed into a serious relationship. Igor told his wife that he had met the one and only, without whom he could not imagine life, and Consuelo broke off relations with her common-law husband. For the sake of her chosen one, the Frenchwoman changed her religion.

Consuelo De Aviland and Kostolevsky got married in 2001, and a year later they got married in the Novodevichy Convent. Despite the opinion of her close relatives, the French woman decided to make global changes in her life and moved to Russia for the sake of her beloved husband.

It was harder to leave the scene

- says the Frenchwoman. But after some time, she found herself and achieved considerable success in Moscow and decided to open up in politics.

How old is Kostolevsky’s wife - Consuelo De Aviland

Today, Igor is 71 years old, and his wife is 64. They are happily married.

Many Russians say that it is very rare for people at that age to love each other so passionately

- says the Frenchwoman.

I want to assure you that the age difference does not affect our relationship in any way. Igor and I, as in the first year of our life together, love an active lifestyle and have a blast during our vacation together. Most of life has been lived, it is necessary to enjoy every day given by God.

Exclusive: Igor Kostolevsky, his French wife and Alain Delon - the whole truth

In 2020, celebrating the anniversary, seventy-year-old Kostolevsky and his French wife first appeared on television in the “Exclusive” program. They wanted to publicly tell their love story and share details about the role the famous Alain Delon played in their family. The public will see and hear the unique details of a Russian-French marriage, which does not care about borders and barriers. When Igor and Consuelo met, the latter had incredible success as an actress in French cinema, and was also the favorite of Alain Delon, who was her producer. The Frenchwoman openly shared that she and Alain were very good friends, he took her to restaurants, often gave her exclusive jewelry and various gifts.

The Russians reacted ambiguously to the story; various comments poured in online, in which some spoke out about the romance between Alain Delon and Consuelo. Others said that the actress is still in a relationship with the famous producer.

Why did Kostolevsky’s wife receive the order?

Consuelo is French, and she was inspired by the problem of the interrupted railway communication between Moscow and Paris due to the fire. She put all her efforts into restoring this message and already in 2006, having become the representative of the president of OJSC Russian Railways in France, she was able to celebrate the victory.

On December 10, 2020, in the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Consuelo De Aviland the Order of Friendship.

Igor Kostolevsky and Consuelo de Aviland: fiery love of the second half of life

Igor Kostolevsky, it seems, was always favored by fate and glory. From his first film role in “The Star of Captivating Happiness” he became a real celebrity. He could not calmly leave the theater after the performance because of the fans. Why does he call himself a man of the second half of his life, and when did the time of happiness come for him?

He was born into a very prosperous family and grew up as a well-mannered, vulnerable, intelligent child. He was considered weak and often beaten by his peers. In order to somehow resist their aggression, Igor Kostolevsky began to practice boxing. After graduating from school, he worked at a research institute as a tester, and later entered the Institute of Civil Engineering. But already in the third year he left the institute.

Sometimes you can come across a version that the girl with whom Kostolevsky then sympathized played a role in this. She saw Yesenin’s features in the handsome young man and said that with such an appearance one must definitely be an artist. He applied to the Moscow Art Theater School, but did not enter. But he became a student at GITIS on the course of Andrei Goncharov.

After graduating from GITIS, he was accepted into the Mayakovsky Theater, which was directed by the same Andrei Goncharov. The main director of the theater did not really believe in the genius of the young actor, so he kept him in a supporting role. But in Kostolevsky’s life there was also cinema.

The role of the Decembrist Ivan Annenkov in the film “Star of Captivating Happiness” brought the actor unprecedented success. He really played his Decembrist brilliantly, managing to make the image of the Decembrist alive, three-dimensional and reliable. True, in the theater he still got minor roles.

In 1981, he met his first wife, actress Elena Romanova, during the filming of the film “Vacation at Your Own Expense.” In the story, they played the bride and groom, and constantly quarreled. In life, at first, everything turned out much better: Igor was caring and attentive, Elena was in love and happy.

In 1983, a son, Alexey, was born into the family. And Elena had more and more reasons to be dissatisfied with her husband, and Igor increasingly felt endlessly lonely. Maybe two people simply couldn’t become family?

From the outside it seemed that everything was wonderful in their lives. In fact, everything was complicated, they quarreled more and more often. The love that once connected them melted before our eyes. Igor Kostolevsky began driving his car around Moscow at night, praying to God to send him the only one meant only for him.

Since childhood, she was passionate about dancing and dreamed of becoming a ballerina, tirelessly spending several hours a day at the barre. At the age of 12, she read the book “The Fencing Teacher” by Alexandre Dumas and decided that she must definitely become the wife of the Decembrist.

A serious injury forced Consuelo de Aviland to forget about ballet, but she had absolutely no intention of forgetting about the theater and chose the profession of an actress. She was quite successful in theater and cinema, but she did not find happiness in love.

Consuelo was popular with men, but she answered all marriage proposals that she was waiting for her Decembrist. For many years she remained true to her childhood dream.

She opened the door to her dressing room in the theater and looked out into the corridor. And I saw Igor Kostolevsky. For some reason, when he looked at this woman, he immediately clearly realized: this is his woman. This is what he told her already on the second date. Consuelo, true to herself, shook her head and uttered her signature phrase about waiting for the Decembrist.

Kostolevsky thought that he had misheard, and she passionately and enthusiastically began to explain to him who the Decembrists were. He immediately said that he had already played the role of a Decembrist married to a French woman. It was fate. As the real wife of the Decembrist, Consuelo converted to Orthodoxy, renouncing the Catholic faith, received a new name - Evdokia, and married her lover on February 23, 2001. Igor Matveevich and all her relatives affectionately call her Dusya.

When she was faced with a choice: family or career, she chose family without a shadow of a doubt. She wanted to become a real Russian wife.

She was very afraid to fly after the miraculous landing of the plane, which almost crashed. She promised herself to travel by train from now on, but was surprised to learn that trains from Paris to Moscow did not run.

Consuelo de Aviland, having secured the support of the management of Russian Railways, achieved the restoration of the Moscow-Paris-Nice railway route. He considers this route his child and is incredibly proud when he goes to Moscow from Paris on it.

Igor Kostolevsky believes that he is a person of the second half of his life, because it was from the second half that the countdown of his happiness began. He has a favorite profession and the only woman with whom he is happy. They both do not like to give interviews, carefully hiding their personal lives from prying eyes. But even a quick glance at this couple is enough to understand: they are really happy. Their time of happiness came at the moment of their first meeting.

They cherish every moment together, and when apart they pray for a new meeting. The only thing they dream about is time. So that as much of it as possible can be given to them between the two of them.

Kostolevsky's French wife gave up everything for him

Actor Igor Kostolevsky and his wife Consuelo de Aviland became guests of the new television project of Channel One “Exclusive”. Kostolevsky told host Dmitry Borisov the story of meeting his second wife. By that time, the artist was already 50 years old. It was at a banquet after a performance in which the artist took part. “She was sitting at the other end of the table. And I was always drawn to look there, I understood that something important was happening there, that my fate was being decided,” said Kostolevsky.

“I decided it was time to leave. I began to say goodbye to everyone. Igor was next to me. We stand, look at each other, and everyone looks at us. He asked for my phone number, I gave it. And then he kissed me on the lips in front of everyone. I thought, this is a Russian tradition, Brezhnev also kissed everyone on the lips,” Consuelo laughs.

Then the Frenchwoman’s creative life was in full swing. She was a producer project of Alain Delon himself, so she did not accept Kostolevsky’s marriage proposal. “He (Delon) liked me because I was efficient and always knew my text. Once he invited me to dinner at a restaurant in Paris. We talked about roles and future projects. It was very interesting for us. He was a generous man. Alain Delon had his own champagne, which was called after him. He sent me a box of champagne, perfume, scarves at home,” the star recalled.

But still, Igor’s feelings for Consuelo turned out to be mutual. Four years later they began to live together in Russia. Kostolevsky categorically did not want to move to France. Then the actress moved to him herself, converting to Orthodoxy under the name Evdokia. She likes to be called Dusya Kostolevskaya. At the same time, when she married her chosen one, she didn’t really know who he was. She has not seen a single film with his participation. Consuelo fell in love with the actor, not knowing that he was one of the most charming Decembrists in the film “Star of Captivating Happiness.” And when I saw it, I realized that I had always dreamed of marrying a Decembrist.

Before

Kostolevsky was married to actress Elena Romanova; they met on the set of the film “Vacation at your own expense.” At first everything was fine, in 1983 the woman gave Igor a son, Alexei. But over time, their love disappeared somewhere, Elena was dissatisfied with her husband, and the actor felt more and more lonely and useless to anyone. Although from the outside it was impossible to suspect anything.

Igor Kostolevsky and Elena Romanova

Romanova learned that he had another woman from an interview with her husband on TV. Elena went through a very difficult divorce and still does not communicate with her ex-husband, although they play together in the same play. The son, too, out of solidarity with his mother, refused to meet with his father. However, time heals and relations between them gradually improved. Alexey did not follow in his father’s footsteps; he works in the field of international law.
