  • Biography[ | ]

    1964—1986: Childhood and youth[ | ]

Born in Moscow[3]. From a very early age she strove for music and creativity, studied diligently at school and “been a bit of a hooligan.” During my school years I listened to Vysotsky, Zykina, Deep Purple and Kiss. Her interest in singing arose from her father, Natalia learned to play the guitar, composed songs and sang in companies, pioneer camps, at proms, and also participated in various competitions, where she won [3].

She married Nikolai Gulkin early and gave birth to a son, Alexei, at the age of 20.

    1986-1988: Mirage Group[ | ]

    Main article: Mirage (band)

While studying vocals in a jazz studio, she dreamed of going on the professional stage[3]. Svetlana Razina, one of the studio participants, introduced Gulkina to the young composer and keyboard player Andrei Lityagin[4]. At that time, he was looking for a new vocalist for the group “Mirage”, since Margarita Sukhankina, who took part in the recording of three compositions “The Stars Are Waiting for Us”, “Video” and “This Night”, refused to participate in the recording of the rest of the material for the future album, because that she intended to make an opera career at the Bolshoi Theater and did not want to be noticed in a group performing pop music. Lityagin suggested that Natalya record several songs[5][6].

Gulkina performed vocal parts for five songs: “Sunny Summer”, “Mad World”, “I Don’t Want”, “Electricity”, “Magic World”[7][8]. March 3, 1987 debut album of the group “Mirage” The stars are waiting for us

    saw the light.

    1988-1992: Group “Stars”[ | ]

In 1988, Mirage was preparing to release its second album, Together Again, which Gulkina insisted on creating. At this time, Natalia toured with the group around the country. Lityagin, in order not to distract the singer, again invited Sukhankina to record, with whom the album was recorded. Natalia was offered to learn songs and perform them to Margarita’s soundtrack[4]. Gulkina refused and left the Mirage group, deciding to start a solo career[9].

“Probably the first time I left Mirage, because I had to try my own strength ,” said Natalia.

And circumstances in the group developed that pushed me to this decision. Then several members of the group went on tour at the same time, which, naturally, I could not like. In addition, I learned that I earn less than other soloists. I thought it was unfair and left. By that time, I was already quite popular, so it turned out to be easier for me to start my new path.”

The singer did not understand legal issues and continued to perform those Mirage songs that she performed as the lead singer of the group. Soon, however, the group’s organizers forbade her to do this[9].

“I didn’t worry too much about this, ” said Gulkina,

    — and she took it and wrote the song “The Sun is Burning,” which was immediately picked up by various radio stations. It soon became a hit and I started touring the country with it. Then a new song “I Believe and Love” appeared.”[9].

At the same time, Natalia met Leonid Velichkovsky on the “Sound Track”. He told her that he had a lot of interesting material and invited Gulkina to watch it. Natalia liked Velichkovsky’s music, and they recorded the album “The Little Prince,” which included the song “The Sun is Burning.” The album was very popular[9]. A group concert was held in Moscow's Gorky Park in connection with the celebration of City Day, which was filmed by television crews from the American channel MTV. The groups “Mirage” with Tatyana Ovsienko, “Fairy” with Svetlana Razina and Natalia Gulkina were invited to perform at it.

“Until that moment, our group did not have a name at all, ” Gulkina recalled.

    — We were announced as Natalia Gulkina — “Ex-Mirage” or simply Natalia Gulkina. And then we grabbed our heads - what to call ourselves? There can’t be two “Mirages” or a “Mirage” and an ex-“Mirage” on stage. They began to come up with some names on the fly. And at this time the MTV film crew enters the dressing room. I am introduced to them as a Russian star, or rather, a star of the USSR, and let them ask what I have, since I am a star. And my husband, now deceased, Kostya Terentyev, suddenly begins to tell them that I have my own train, on which my group and I travel throughout the country. And that we also have an airplane. And how he went to lie! I am terrified. What is he talking about?! And he just wanted to show that we are no worse than their stars. And suddenly one of us has an idea, what if we called our group “Stars”. At first I doubted that we would call ourselves stars - that we are so cool, or what? And then someone said what does cool or not cool have to do with it. There is also the Moon and the stars. And they are already shouting to us: “Your way out!” How to announce?!“ Well, we waved our hand: “Announce: Natalia Gulkina and the Stars group.”
    [4][9].

At the same time, the group shot the first two videos for the songs “The Sun Is Burning” and “I Believe and Love.”

In 1989, the group released its second album, “Disco,” which gained enormous popularity[8].

In 1990, after winning the international festival “Inter-Chance”, Natalia Gulkina went on tour to China, becoming in fact the first Soviet pop singer to perform in this country. In Beijing, about 20 thousand spectators gathered at the “Stars” concert at the Sports Palace[4].

In 1991, Natalia Gulkina recorded two albums. The first of them is “You just have to dream,” the songs for which were written by Sergei Lemokh with lyrics by Gulkina (“Ivanhoe,” “This is China,” etc., videos were shot on them) and Oleg Molchanov with lyrics by Arkady Slavorosov. The second is the singer’s solo album “Day Angel”, songs for which were written by Oleg Molchanov and Slavorosov[3]. The singer took 9th place in “Song of the Year” according to Moskovsky Komsomolets [10].

Since 1992, dancers appeared in “Stars”, and collaboration with choreographer Sergei Mandrik began. Over the course of several years, the dancers changed several times, and by 1995 the “Street Jazz” quartet was formed: Sergey Mandrik, Maxim Nedolechko aka “Peps”, Volodya Suvorov and Araik Martirosyan. Gulkina worked with this team until 2001[3].

    1993–2004: Solo career[ | ]

In 1993, Natalia Gulkina founded the New Generation school-studio for gifted children at the Constellation children's creativity center[3]. In the same year, the recording company ZeKo Records released her album “Holy Love” with the hits “Rio de Janeiro” and “Goodbye, Love”[8]. In this and subsequent years, Gulkina performed concerts in Germany for Russian-speaking audiences.

In 1995, Natalia Gulkina entered GITIS at the Faculty of Variety Arts, majoring in “Director of Variety and Mass Performances” on the course of People’s Artist of Russia Andrei Nikolaev.

In 1996, the recording company ZeKo Records released the album “Dancing City” with the hits “Albatross” and “Melody of Love”[8]. The album, in addition to the works of Molchanov and Lemokh, contained songs by young authors - Rafael Safin and Lyubov Lyubovtsova. For the title song “Melody of Love,” director Andrei Shcherbakov shot a video, in which dancers from the “Street Jazz” group took part[3]. In December, Natalia Gulkina’s solo concerts were held at the Moscow Youth Palace, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of her creative activity. The dance groups "Crim's" and "Blesk", as well as students of the studio school "New Generation"[3], were invited to participate in the show.

In 1997, Gulkina transferred to the acting department of GITIS and began studying on a course with David Livnev. In the same and subsequent years, Natalia worked on a new album under the working title “Sail of Dreams”, in the recording of which the Tchaikovsky Big Symphony Orchestra conducted by V. I. Fedoseev and many musicians took part. This album was never released[7].

In 1999, Natalia successfully graduated from GITIS, receiving a diploma in dramatic theater and film actress.

In 2000, Gulkina recorded a remix of the song “Sunny Summer” from the first album of “Mirage”, for which a video was shot by music video director Viktor Konisevich. Racing driver Alexey Dudukalo, Russian champion in auto racing, took part in the filming. At the same time, two more remixes of Mirage songs were recorded - “I Don’t Want” and “Mad World”[3][11].

In 2001, replacing the “Street Jazz” team, Gulkina began collaborating with the ballet “Mobius”, joint work with which continued until January 2005[3].

In 2002, Natalia took part in the “Disco 80s” festival, performing remixes of the songs “Sunny Summer”, “Mad World” and “Disco”[3][8].

In 2003, Gulkina tried to create a new duet group “Malta” and recorded two new songs, but soon returned to solo work[12].

2004—2011: Duet with M. Sukhankina and revival of “Mirage”[ | ]

In 2004, Natalia Gulkina and Margarita Sukhankina were recording solo albums at the same time, and since Sukhankina had already left the Bolshoi Theater, one of the journalists concluded that they decided to unite [13][14][15]. Gulkina had the idea to revive the group “Mirage”[9], creating a duet with Sukhankina, with whom she was not even familiar, although at one time they both participated in recording songs for the first album of “Mirage”[14]. Natalia called Margarita, but she did not immediately agree to see her, because the offer seemed unpromising to her. Natalia recalled: “I persuaded her: “Let’s tell the truth - that it was you and me, Rita Sukhankina and Natasha Gulkina, and not anyone else, who made “Mirage”. That we recorded phonograms to which a good dozen aspiring singers sang in different parts of the country.” Persuaded..."

    [13].

The singers decided to join forces and record a common album. Natalia, as a producer, invited Sergei Lavrov, with whom she collaborated in “Stars,” and introduced him to Margarita[7]. The result of their collaboration was the song “Simply Mirage” and the single “Mirage of Love,” which aroused great interest among the public. The words to the song were written by Gulkina herself, and the music by Vadim Zolotykh[9]. Despite the dissatisfaction of the owner of the rights to the Mirage brand, Gulkina and Sukhankina continued their joint activities, first under the name “Solo”, and then changed it to “Golden Voices of the Mirage Group”. The singers took part in the “Disco of the 80s” with a song from the repertoire of Natalia Gulkina “Ivanhoe”. In 2005, they released the album “Simply Mirage” and also shot a video for the song of the same name[16]. Dance teams “WA”, “Scotch”, “VIP”[3] took part in the project. In 2006, the “Golden Voices of the Mirage” concert took place at the Rossiya State Central Concert Hall [3]. The singers paid composer Andrei Lityagin for the right to perform his works[9].

In 2007, Natalia Gulkina and Margarita Sukhankina teamed up with Andrei Lityagin, reviving the Mirage group[8]. In the same year, a video was shot for the song “A Thousand Stars”[5].

Natalia Gulkina at the festival "Legends of Retro FM 2009"

On September 17, 2009, a new album of the Mirage group was released, entitled “A Thousand Stars”[8], in which Gulkina performed four songs solo and four more in a duet with Sukhankina. At the same time, a new video for the group “The Night Flickers” was released.

Natalya Gulkina and the group "Mirage"

By a lucky coincidence, it was at that moment that the leader of the Mirage group was looking for a new vocalist for his band to replace the departed Margarita Sukhankina.

After the audition, a place in the group was offered to our today’s heroine. However, surprisingly, Natalia Gulkina for quite a long time did not want to participate in the project, which seemed rather dubious to her. As a result, the girl gave her consent in principle only two months later. This began the collaboration of the young artist with the newly formed group “Mirage”.

As part of the legendary group, the blond beauty took part in the recording of one album. In total, Natalia Gulkina performed vocal parts for the compositions “Mad World”, “Sunny Summer”, “I Don’t Want”, “Magic World” and “Electricity”. These songs were subsequently presented on the album “The Stars Are Waiting for Us” (1987).

After the record was released, Natalia Gulkina began touring frequently around the country. For some time she became the main face of the Mirage group, but as it turned out, her collaboration with the group was short-lived.

The same endless tours were to blame for everything.

Having written several new compositions, Andrei Lityagin first decided to offer them to Natalia Gulkina, but later abandoned this idea due to the fact that at that very moment the girl was at the other end of the Soviet Union. As a result, the songs were performed and recorded by the old soloist of the Mirage group, Margarita Sukhankina. Natasha herself was invited to subsequently perform these songs to a soundtrack. However, the girl considered this situation offensive and, in the end, decided to leave the group.

The habit of getting married. Natalia Gulkina

    Don't offend women

    - What kind of men did little Natasha like? Advertising:
    - Blondes with blue eyes. Later tastes changed. Now I like brunettes more.

    Natalia Gulkina photography

    - Do you remember when you first fell in love?

    — One of the brightest events of my life. I first fell in love when I was 15 years old. I didn’t realize what I was doing, it was some kind of brain dump. I was studying at the communications school on Taganka and met with my friend every morning on Oktyabrskaya in a dead end. I noticed a guy who, like me, meets his friend there every day. At first I didn’t pay attention to him, and then I caught myself thinking that I was rushing to the metro station and seeing if he was standing there? He had a bright blue jacket, and one day at school I noticed a figure wearing a similar jacket. Everything went cold inside me. I ran up, but it wasn’t him. The most interesting thing is that on the same day we ran into each other on a flight of stairs. It turned out that he studied two years older at the same school. He waited for me after class, and things started to spin. It was such crazy love! His name was Sergei. This name haunts me throughout my life. But this story ended sadly. I didn’t wait for him to leave the army and got married a couple of months before his return.

    Natalia Gulkina photography

    - How could you? Such love was...

“It seemed to me then that this was once and for all.” But at some point he lost interest in me and backed off. He said, let's take a little break from each other. And I realized that they were abandoning me. I was depressed, I got sick, I just fell ill. The turning point was my hysteria in class, which happened to me after a conversation with my loved one. The teacher yelled at me and told me to get this guy out of my head. I calmed down, and after a while new attempts on his part began. It amused me. We got back together again, and I even promised to wait for him from the army, wrote him letters almost every day, but I was no longer confident in myself. There is no need to offend women... We met much later, when I was already married for the second time and he was married, and we realized that we had nothing to say to each other.

    Don't get married... at 18!

    - Why did you get divorced the first time?

    Natalia Gulkina photography

    — I married Kolya Gulkin, and a year later we had a child. At this time, I began to wonder if I had made the right choice. But at this age, at 18, it is impossible to make the right choice. It happens, of course, that people get married before reaching adulthood and live together “happily ever after,” but this is rare. As a rule, people get married just to put on a dress and veil. I honestly got married almost exclusively for this reason, although, of course, I was in love with Kolya.

    - Maybe then there was no need to do this?

“Of course, I shouldn’t have, but it just so happened, I got married foolishly.” But I don't regret it. We lived on Obruchev Street, and nearby there was a club where I began to study in a vocal ensemble. It was here that I met Svetka Razina, she had already brought Andrei Letyagin, and this whole story with “Mirage” and “Stars” began.

    Natalia Gulkina photography

    — How did it happen that you divorced your first husband? You had a child together...

“I was given a choice: stage or family. Since childhood, I dreamed of singing and was not going to give up on my dream. I chose the stage. She took the child and went to her mother.

    Blind love

    - What about the second marriage?

    — It was like in a movie. I got into the car, turned my head, our eyes met, and I realized I was gone. Kostya Terentyev manipulated me as he wanted. I lost everything I had earned up to that point.

    - And you didn’t understand anything?

    - It was blind love. I didn’t see, I didn’t understand that he was not behaving very nicely, he was deceiving me. Moreover, it was not about money, but about human relationships. I found out that my husband was cheating on me, and I broke off the relationship quite harshly. I am very grateful to fate and God that we do not have children together, otherwise I would have had to communicate with this person all these years, whether I want it or not. I don’t know what’s wrong with him now, how he lives.

    - What happened after the divorce?

    - There was still love. You know, in my life the number 4 has a magical meaning. I lived with one husband for four years, another four with my second, and with my third - 8 years. Moreover, in this life everything is balanced. I left the first two and left. I made the final decision. And my third husband left me with one and a half year old Yanochka in his arms.

    - For what reason?

    — I found a young and beautiful one. Everything is banal. Time has passed, and now he sees his daughter from time to time.

    Attempt No. 4

    — Was the meeting with your current legal spouse romantic?

    - Oh! Very! My daughter got sick, and my friends advised me to contact a paid service. I called. Sergei has arrived. Yana is a very calm child, but then she spit in his face, so deliciously, from the heart. I was stunned. And Seryozha reacted completely calmly. He went to rich houses on Rublyovka and was used to treating the spoiled children of the new Russians. Then I began to take a closer look at him. You know, over the years you understand that the main thing in human relationships is care, mutual assistance, understanding.

    — Does Sergei know about your marriages?

    - Everything. At first he was jealous of both Kolya Gulkin, Lesha’s father, and Sergei, Yana’s father. And now I see they communicate so nicely.

    — How did Yana react to the new dad?

    - She has one dad, and she knows about it. She sees him on TV, he’s dancing with the “Hands Up!” group. He reacts very calmly to the appearance of his father on TV, and also to the appearance of his mother.

    - And your son?

    — My son lives with my mother and studies. I think it’s time for him to go to work so he knows the value of money.

    — He’s almost 20, hasn’t he gotten married yet?

    - Thank God no.

    Thrills and pickles

    — Do you play sports?

    — I always try to keep myself in sports shape. I’ve been going to the same gym for three years now: they have excellent service and wonderful trainers. I absolutely love swimming in the pool and working out on the “Bicycle Track” simulator. I don’t like extreme sports, especially those related to the vestibular system. I really want to try to put on water skis and run through the waves with the breeze, and also go underwater with scuba diving, but they say that I need to take special courses. And, despite the fear of heights, soar into the clouds on a hang glider and circle over the expanse of water. I really love NTV+, where I constantly watch Eurosport: car racing, diving competitions, synchronized swimming and figure skating, especially ice dancing.

    — And do you like to eat too?

    - Especially salty. So Seryozha tells me: salt retains all the harmful things in the body, they say, eat everything without salt and you will lose weight, but I can’t. I really love Chinese and Japanese cuisine. Moreover, I love Chinese food, both eaten in Chinese restaurants and cooked at home. I’m not such an expert in Japanese, but I just bought a cookbook of Japanese dishes, the recipes of which I adapt to my kitchen. By the way, I am not very good at using chopsticks, but every year I get more and more used to it. From Chinese cuisine, I prefer Chinese chicken, which is served with sweet and sour sauce and cashew nuts; salmon fish with hot or sweet and sour sauce and pine nuts. Absolutely amazing rice vermicelli, which is brewed with boiling water, small pieces of meat are added to it, multi-colored peppers and carrots, cut into thin strips, are fried for 2-3 minutes, and everything is mixed together.

    — Is it difficult to cook something yourself?

    — My son always says that I should have been a cook. My grandmother, who I grew up with, was an amazing cook. When I was 15 years old, I spent the first whole day in the kitchen and, apparently, I got sick of it. Now I always cook myself and come up with all sorts of interpretations of common dishes. My weakness is sweets. I do very well with sweet beetroot soup, borscht, cabbage soup with fresh and sauerkraut, pickles, solyanka, fish soup, and salads. One day I decided to make a quick salad, and I came up with my own recipe, which I called “winter”: crab sticks, cheese, sweet corn, cucumbers, cut into strips, sour cream (can be replaced with mayonnaise or mixed in a 50:50 ratio) and sweet peppers.

“MY PERSONAL LIFE IS UNDER CONTROL”

    — Is it true that you were once given a horse as a gift while on tour? And what is the fate of the gift?

    — (Laughs.) The owners of the stud farm presented it to me for my 50th birthday while on tour in Ussuriysk. But I have to support it myself. And this is at least 80 thousand per month. Besides, there are not many stables in Moscow. If something doesn’t work out with the stable, what will I do with him? Shall I sit on the balcony?

Therefore, although I have a horse, and this somehow warms me, he is in Ussuriysk. Sometimes I call there: “How is my Ruslan?” - "Everything is fine. When are you going to ride the horse?” (Laughs).

It’s clear that if I go to those parts on tour, I’ll go to them first. And those people who gave me the horse also have their own reindeer herding farm. They then gave me a bottle of deer blood and said: “Natasha, drink. You need a tablespoon a day. And not a single illness will stick!” I didn't make up my mind. This bottle is still in the refrigerator. The expiration date has long passed. They advise me: “Take healing baths! There’s an incredible amount of vitamins and microelements!” I'm thinking about this proposal. (Laughs).

    - You already look beautiful. Are you on a diet?

    — It seems to me that any woman today is practically a nutritionist. Anyone can open weight loss seminars because each has experience, and often successful. For example, I have a friend who was able to lose 50 kg. Three years ago, I also lost 26 kg. Naturally, after this it’s a pity to lose your achievements, and along with them the compliments. It’s always nice to hear: oh, how good, how young you look! That's why I gave up bread completely. In the evening - boiled turkey or steamed fish, vegetable salads. But when I come to visit someone, I don’t start like some people: oh, I’m on a diet, I don’t eat after six! Well, why did you come then?

    — But here’s a question that’s impossible not to ask: what about your personal life? I assume that your director Lyon is scaring potential suitors away from you.

    - Agree. I think this is what is happening in my life. But perhaps there are more pros than cons. For example, I don’t use social networks; Lyon is responsible for me. And he says: “Wow, how many men write to you, offer their hand and heart! But I won’t let anyone near you.” That is, he is waiting for a worthy person to whom he could entrust me with peace of mind. (Laughs.)

True, even then he will control everything. This is my Lyon... “Why,” he says, “do we need an army of young people who are breaking in on you? To sit on your neck? I will not let it". And it’s true: we women can be so flighty and naive! They will say beautiful words to us, but we are left hanging. So, I think it’s good that I’m under such control! (Laughs).
