10 singers who left the Pussycat Dolls

The Pussycat Dolls are a famous American female pop/R&B group. The style of this musical group is based on dance burlesque with strong vocals.

The group was founded in 1995 by choreographer Robin Antin. The whole world knows its name, as well as the names of some of its former participants; they gained such wide popularity mainly during their stay in this musical group.

And even despite the fact that the “Pussycat Dolls” have long ceased to exist, its hits are still known to this day and periodically appear on radio and music channels. This only indicates that during its existence the group was able to “record” its name in the history of world music.

Here are 10 of the hottest former members of the Pussycat Dolls.

Nicole Scherzinger

Currently, Nicole Scherzinger is a recognized R&B and pop singer who has won the hearts of millions of fans with her phenomenal vocal abilities.

From a very early age, the future star dreamed of singing on the professional stage and thanks to her determination, self-confidence and hard work, Nicole was still able to achieve what she wanted.

In addition to performing, Scherzinger has successfully proven herself as a dancer, composer, model and actress.

Kimberly Wyatt

This singer, dancer, dance director and TV presenter became widely known thanks to her work in the Pussycat Dolls group.

Wyatt joined the musical group in 2003. After working in the group for seven years, the girl announced her exit in order to participate in her new musical group “Her Majesty & The Wolves”.

By the way, in many of the “Pussycat Dolls” video clips, Wyatt amazes fans with her standing splits, which is considered her signature trick in this group.

Voice of the group

Relatively quickly, in 2003, after auditions, two girls were selected: the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls group, Nicole Scherzinger, and Melody Thornton, who became the second vocalist.

Nicole Praskovya Elikolani Valiente Scherzinger was born in Hawaii, she owes her exotic beauty to the mixture of many bloods, her dad was Filipino, and her mother had Ukrainian-Hawaiian roots. The lead singer of Pussycat Dolls received her surname from her stepfather Harry Scherzinger, who raised her in conservative Catholic traditions.

Before joining the group, Nicole performed at the American Star Factory, thanks to which she ended up in the girl group Eden's Crush, where she became the lead vocalist. The first single of the musical group took first place in sales and even entered the top of the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart. The second single also became a hit, which did not help the group; the production company went bankrupt and the group broke up.

After this, Nicole began her solo career, recording several songs under the pseudonym Nicole Kea, one of these compositions became the soundtrack to the comedy “50 First Dates.” The first time she saw the group perform was in 2002 at a show when Carmen Electra was the lead vocalist, and a year later she herself became the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.

Jessica Satta

Jessica Satta is a vocalist, dancer, actress and composer. In 2003, she moved to Los Angeles and after 3 months she managed to sign up for an audition for PSA, where she liked the founder of the Pussycat Dolls, Robin Antin, who subsequently invited her to her group.

The singer recorded the singles “Stickwitu” and “Santa Baby” together with other members of “Kukolok”. After the latter left the group, Jessica began performing all of her vocal parts.

During the Pussycat Dolls' hiatus in 2007, she contributed to two singles: "Make It Last" and "White Lies." In 2010, she was fired from the Pussycat Dolls.

Melody Thornton

Melody Thornton is an American R&B singer, dancer and songwriter. She gained worldwide fame thanks to her participation in the group “Pussycat Dolls”. In the team, she occupied the second leading vocal position after Nicole Scherzinger.

In 2010, Thornton left the group, deciding to go solo. The singer's first mixtape, POYBL, was released on March 15, 2012.

History of creation

The ideological inspirer and creator of the musical group “Pussycat Dolls” was, oddly enough, a choreographer. In 1993, Robin Antin, who had become famous among Hollywood celebrities as a choreographer of dance numbers, decided to create her own creative team.

Robin Antin

The first members of the troupe are Christina Applegate and Carla Kama. The main feature of the dance trio was their unique style - the numbers were performed to songs of the 50s, and the costumes were made in the style of burlesque and cabaret workers.

At first, the girls rehearsed in the basement of actress Applegate and didn’t even think about vocal numbers. Using her own connections, Robin got the dancers a contract to perform at The Viper Room club.

Christina Applegate

The unusual presentation and deliberately sexual movements attracted the attention of the public. “Pussycat Dolls” became the permanent star of the establishment and introduced an innovation to their own repertoire - the girls invited Hollywood stars to their team.

Paris Hilton, Pink, Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra became temporary participants in the show. The latter stayed in the group for 2 years, and after the “cats” changed their activities, she left the team.

Carmen Electra

The popularity of seductive girls, the number of which had grown significantly by 2001, attracted the attention of production companies. In 2002, the unusual show went beyond nightclubs and began appearing in magazines (for example, Playboy) and on television. By 2003, Jimmy Iovine, a famous producer at the Interscope Records music label, invited Robin to explore a new field - R&B music.

Ashley Roberts

Ashley Roberts is a vocalist, dancer, dance director, actress and television presenter. In February 2010, she left the musical group “Pussycat dolls” to seriously engage in solo work, since Nicole Scherzinger played the leading role in the group.

Her debut in the field of big cinema was her role in the film “Take a Step,” where she appeared in the image of the dancer Brooke. The film mostly received positive reviews. She also took part in one of the episodes of the multi-part series “90210: The New Generation”.

In addition to acting, the girl began her own production of a line of underwear and swimsuits, and also became the face of the Key Fashion Collection brand.

Pussycat Dolls now

In mid-2020, news appeared in the American press about the band's reunion. The reason for the rumors was the joint appearance of Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt and Nicole Scherzinger on the red carpet of a music award.

Simultaneously with the joyful event for fans, the tabloids were graced by the revelation of Kaia Jones. The girl accused the group's producers of forced prostitution

. Allegedly, the entire time that Jones was part of the group, the singer was forced to sell herself. Lawyers for the band's producers are preparing a massive libel suit to refute Kaya's statement.

According to Kimberly Wyatt, the Pussycat Dolls are planning to launch a large-scale tour, which will begin in America in 2020 and continue in 2019 in the UK. Kimberly herself, in addition to the tour, would love to perform within the walls of “The Viper Room”, where the popular group took its first steps. There has not yet been any official confirmation about the reunion of the “cats” from the producers of the dance and music troupe.

Asia Nitollano

This singer, dancer, fashion model and cheerleader joined the group as a result of winning the reality show “The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll.” However, after a few months she left her to focus on her solo career.

Asia was a member of the group for a fairly short period of time, so she managed to perform at concerts with the group only twice.

In 2007, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Asia, who had no official commitment to ever join the Pussycat Dolls, had decided to go solo.

According to the director of The CW, Nitollano was not fired from the team, but decided to perform on her own after the final episode of the reality show aired.

The singer's status in the group was unclear for several months due to the fact that she never appeared on stage with other members of the group (except for the finale of the show) and was not present at the group's big performances.

Compound

There was no question of storming the musical Olympus with the previous lineup. Robin Antin took over as Administrator and Producer. After long castings, the group included several attractive girls who, in addition to choreography, had vocal abilities.

Nicole Scherzinger

One of the first producers signed a contract with Nicole Scherzinger. Before appearing in the group, the oriental beauty managed to study show business from the inside. Nicole participated in the music show “Popstar”, after which she led the group “Eden’s Crash”. Immediately after the collapse of the group, which did not receive much success among the Americans, the girl joined the Pussycat Dolls.

Melody Thornton

The second vocalist was Melody Thornton. Unlike the other participants, the girl did not study dancing, but she had a strong voice. The producers, realizing that Nicole alone could not handle the vocals, jumped at the opportunity to work with the singer.

Kaya Jones

The producers invited Kaya Jones as a third to enhance the vocal component. True, the girl stayed in the team for less than a year. Robin Antin would later state that Jones was not officially part of the group at all.

Kimberly Wyatt

By the time the musical project was launched, the group consisted of 9 girls. Of the “old” members of the group, the updated team included: Kimberly Wyatt, Carmit Bachar, Casey Campbell, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Satta, Saya Batten.

Ashley Roberts

In this form, the girls burst onto television screens and radios with two singles that were featured in cartoons. After a year of performing together, Saya Batten and Casey Campbell left the group, who decided to concentrate on solo careers. Kaya Jones made the same decision. By the time they recorded their first album, the Pussycat Dolls had become a quintet.

Zia Batten

For the first time, the general public recognized her as a participant in the famous “Dolls”. In addition to vocal creativity, the girl managed to take part in several successful film projects, including “Charlie Wilson’s War”, “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle”, “Cutie”, etc.

In addition, she appeared in the television series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Jordan Investigation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” etc.

Kaya Jones

This girl was also a member of the Pussycat dolls group for some time. However, her name is associated not with her vocal and dancing activities in the group, but with the scandal that erupted 10 years after her departure from the group.

She shared information with her subscribers on one of the social networks that throughout her stay in “Dolls,” the producers forced her and other participants to enter into intimate relationships with influential people who provided significant assistance in promoting the group.

She called the other vocalists in the group prostitutes and said that she felt so terrible working there that she even turned down a $13 million contract.

Naturally, the creator of “Pussycat dolls” denied such information, calling the words of the ex-participant “a blatant lie.”

MUSIC / MUSICIANS

This, among many other interviews and individual appearances by the band members, led to rumors in the press that the band was about to break up due to strained relations with lead singer Scherzinger. However, Antin responded to this very quickly, stating:

The Pussycat Dolls are very resilient; in fact, there is no truth in the quiet statements. Nicole and Dolls have ALWAYS been close. Nicole is and always will be a strong creative force in the group and I love the way we collaborate.

In January 2010, News of the World stated that both Wyatt and Thornton had been "fired from the group due to falling out with Scherzinger" and that several more Dolls might be leaving. Wyatt stated that she did not like Scherzinger's preferential treatment, including private transportation, rather than joining all the girls in the group on the tour bus, and that she requested a private dressing room while the other girls shared one on recent tours. . The final straw came when it was announced that changes had been made to the group, with Wyatt responding by admitting that she had spoken with Thornton, Roberts and Sutta about a competing project with the Pussycat Dolls. Although the official announcement of the changes was related to Scherzinger's solo project. Wyatt stated that "[Me and the other girls besides Nicole] are trying to find a way to work together. We all want it. But when we do this, we are not allowed to call ourselves Pussycat Dolls. There's a lot of controversy right now. I didn't talk to Nicole about it. She threw herself into her career.”

Finally, on January 29, 2010, the truth about the group was destined to emerge. It started with Jessica Sutta admitting to E!Online that she was kicked out of the group after suffering a broken rib during the band's tour. The news put her in a difficult financial situation, and in an instant she almost became homeless. As in Wyatt's earlier interviews, Satta hinted at the size of Scherzinger's benefits. When the band was on tour with Britney Spears, other dolls had to undergo constant drug tests, and Scherzinger was an exception. According to Satta, Scherzinger was more involved than just singing lead vocals; she apparently controlled the number of shots of each doll in the video as they were filmed. Satta told In Style magazine that while being a doll is an enjoyable experience even after seven years, she still doesn't want to become famous as a backup dancer.

Less than a month later, on February 26, Wyatt confirmed what was expected: she had also left the group and officially confessed the news to Loaded magazine. She left the group because she did not like the position in the group: “I wish it was different because I love what I do on stage. I love being a doll, but with the changes happening behind the scenes, I just can't take it anymore... when I go on stage, I know it's my job and I give it 100%. I feel like I can connect with anyone when working together—because it’s just work, nothing more!”

One day later, Ashley Roberts also announced her departure from the group via the website. In a simple message, she said: “Yes, I left the Pussycat Dolls..I love you all so much!!! I really appreciate your love and support. It was an amazing trip, I learned so much!” Meanwhile, Wyatt later confirmed that all of the Dolls had left the group, including Thornton.

2010-present: New lineup and third studio album

Antin appeared on The Wendy Williams Show to promote her new fitness DVD. Williams took the opportunity to ask Antin about the rumors surrounding the band's suspicious breakup. Antin responded this way: “They don’t fall apart. In fact, we are preparing to make a new group." She confirmed that Scherzinger was staying. However, Antin stated that she will be adding new faces and some of the current members will leave to do solo projects. She continued: “Women’s empowerment bullshit. Inside, every woman is a lovely doll waiting to be released. There are millions of women around the world who want to know what it is. I want to show it through new faces."

Carmen Electra

This girl was able to fully reveal her extraordinary talent as a dancer at the dance show “The Pussycat Dolls,” where she was a guest star.

Carmen Electra has regularly appeared on television as an actress since the mid-90s. To me, her iconic roles are in the following films: “Great Hamburger”, “Mating Games of Earthly Inhabitants”, “Baywatch”, “Scary Movie”.

All her film roles cannot be called serious film work, and these films themselves can hardly be called first-category films. At the same time, this circumstance did not prevent Electra from gaining worldwide fame.
