Denis’s father, Ilya Oleynikov, suggested the idea of creating a duet:

In general, dad never insisted on anything, did not interfere in my life, only if for a specific reason. When I first saw Stas Kostyushkin, I listened to our songs and suddenly said: “Why don’t you do a duet?” I was nineteen years old then, I didn’t even think about it, we were just fooling around, inventing something, playing. But my father thought and suggested.

— Denis Klyaver[2]

Ilya Oleynikov lent them $88,000, first 64, then another 24.[3]

History of the creation and collapse of the group

In 1994, the duet “Tea for Two” was created. The composition of the group is already known to you. At that time, the guys did not have any producer. Stas and Denis independently organized “Tea for Two,” recorded several songs and waited for the right moment to make themselves known. And soon they had such an opportunity.

In 1995, the Yalta-Moscow-Transit competition was held. The newly formed group performed there. Everyone was delighted: the audience, the jury members and other musicians. Laima Vaikule herself drew attention to the guys. She offered the talented duo close cooperation. Denis and Stas could not refuse such a wonderful offer. The guys collaborated with Vaikule for two years. During this period, they learned to turn their concerts into a real show.

In April 2000, the “Tea for Two” group was taken under the wing of the production company. Since then, the duo began an active touring life, filming in videos and magazines.

For several years, the group has delighted its fans with bright videos and heart-tugging songs. But in 2011, rumors appeared about the imminent breakup of the duo. Denis and Stas did not want to comment on such rumors. Fans of their work tried to believe in the best. However, in 2012 the group ceased to exist. Each of the guys began to build a solo career.

The reasons for the duo's breakup still remain unknown. Colleagues said that Klyaver and Kostyushkin often quarreled over fees, songs and tour schedules. It was obvious: the two stars of Russian showbiz were becoming cramped within the same team.
