Regina Kova: “As a child, I really loved playing Lara Croft!” | Exclusive for BIMRU

Ukrainian and Russian celebrities spoke out about the scandal with TV presenter Regina Todorenko.

Heated discussions on the topic of a high-profile scandal, at the epicenter of which was the star of Eagle and Tails, do not subside on the Internet. Let us remember that Todorenko was subjected to severe criticism after, in an interview for a YouTube channel, she accused the victim of domestic violence of hype and that it was her own fault that her husband beat her.

The scandalous statements of the TV star were commented on by her colleagues. Thus, some supported Todorenko, condemning her bullying, while others shared their stories of domestic violence, calling the star’s statements unacceptable for a public person, whose example many young girls are inspired by.

Dmitry Shepelev, TV presenter, common-law husband of Zhanna Friske

“What is happening around Regina Todorenko is a very accurate sign of today. There is a public person. He was asked a question. He replied. And those who were not asked, and are unlikely to be asked, began to persuade this man with all their might. Moreover, not for what he said, but for everything that turned up. An opinion was voiced. Not a call. Not an insult. Opinion. You may like it or not. Might be smart. Maybe not. And a sign of a healthy person would be a reaction to precisely this opinion: “I agree because...” or “I disagree because...”. But that's not what happens. In my opinion, this is a very sad symptom of being forced to apologize. How did it happen? This is a diagnosis.

Being a public person is not only pleasant. This, of course, also means responsibility for words and actions. And sometimes it is the duty to follow smooth formulations, to say not always what you think, but precisely what will not offend. Saying what you think may not always be smart, but it is definitely brave. Few will dare.

We live in a very strange time, which requires correctness in everything: just not to offend or excite this or that. And this forces me to write “I am against domestic violence.” But also add “I am also against bullying and against stupid bullying.” PSIf you are very outraged, help organizations that are fighting the problem of domestic violence, instead of scratching your tongue,” Shepelev wrote.

Regina Kova: “As a child, I really loved playing Lara Croft!” | Exclusive for BIMRU

Regina Kova captivated Russian netizens as soon as her photo became publicly available. Regina has a clear resemblance to the Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie. And in early November, the girl decided to take part in the casting of Max Fadeev for the group “Silver”. “Russian Angelina Jolie” managed to make it to the finals, but another girl won. We talked with Regina, asked her about life, potential collaboration with Fadeev and beauty.

Regina, hello! Tell me, when did you realize that you had an obvious resemblance to Angelina Jolie?

— I remember that as a child I really loved playing Lara Croft, then the boys in the yard said that I looked like the actress from this film. I became interested, although I didn’t find much in common between us. But it was very flattering to be compared to such a beautiful woman. At that time I was 12 years old.

Did the resemblance to the Hollywood actress play into your hands?

— The external resemblance to Jolie helps me a lot on the set. I can do facial expressions like hers and create the image of Angelina. It looks impressive.

Have you been able to see Angelina Jolie in person? Do you know her?

— I was at the premiere of the film “Salt”, where Angelina shared autographs. I was 17, I was very glad to see her live: I, a girl from Khabarovsk, see a Hollywood diva! My happiness knew no bounds. Just a photo with this autograph spread across the Internet, people saw a great resemblance between us, apparently.

You made it to the finals of Max Fadeev’s casting for the “Silver” group. Aren't you upset that you didn't become the winner?

— I’m not upset about “Silver” at all. So my path is different, my own...

Do you think you were able to work in this team?

- Maybe if I were younger. I would cling to the group and not let go (smiles). But everything that is done is for the better!

By the way, where did you get such excellent vocal abilities?

— Thank you for the compliment (embarrassed). I think that nature just did its best, thank you!

Tell us what the “Russian Angelina Jolie” does in everyday life?

— I am constantly learning something, improving myself. I am interested in esotericism, astrology, numerology, psychology. I record songs and participate in filming. It seems to me that there are so many interesting things that I don’t have enough time in a day. That’s probably why I have a hard time falling asleep at night (laughs).

Many girls probably dream of being at least a little like you. Are you satisfied with your appearance?

- Every girl can find flaws in herself. I'm not an exception. The main thing is to still love yourself, not to strive to be the same in terms of appearance (I’m talking about plastic). Although I am often blamed for this, I am for natural beauty.

Will you strive to enter domestic show business?

— Nowadays, show business has become more accessible; with the advent of social networks, it would be a sin not to try yourself!

Your wishes to our readers.

“I would like the world to become kinder and people are not afraid to open their hearts, feel, love, then there will be a real paradise on Earth!” Also, don’t be afraid to try yourself, look for your own in everything and just be able to be honest with yourself. Peace and love to everyone!

Polina Nenya, TV presenter, journalist

“A week ago I drew attention to an absolutely incorrect statement justifying violence on the air of Regina Todorenko and Nastya Ivleeva, yesterday glamour_russia discussed other statements by the famous presenter - “what did a woman do to avoid being beaten?”, “to deserve violence”... I remain in my position on the fight against violence in all forms of its manifestation, and I am glad that in a neighboring country, thanks to the sharp reaction of journalists, this situation has become a precedent for the only correct feedback on this kind of statements.

There is no institution of reputation in Ukraine, but having such strength and power as popularity, you need to think very carefully about what you say and what you promote, and be prepared for all kinds of reactions, including adequate ones. This is a wonderful lesson for all of us, to become even more firmly established in the understanding that violence is a topic for CONDEMNATION, and not for reasoning and jokes! I am categorically against the persecution of Todorenko, every person has the right to make a mistake, and I am sure that Regina will hear the pain of every third woman (statistics) in our countries, forced to defend herself, her honor, her children and her rights.

Regina Todorenko apologized for her statements, and believes that violence is still unacceptable and worthy of respect. — I really hope that in our country, opion leaders, journalists, the public, human rights activists will defend the only adequate position, that women’s rights in our country will be protected by adequate laws, that violence will be punished, and, no less important, women will begin to support others women. “Today is Daughters’ Day, I congratulate all mothers and believe that our girls will live in a completely different world, with different examples and values, and this is our responsibility,” she wrote.

Nobody expected

When at the end of April Regina, together with her husband, Vlad Topalov , agreed to give an interview to Laura Dzhugelia , she could not even imagine that an ordinary conversation would cost her advertising contracts and the title “Woman of the Year,” which the TV presenter received in 2020 from Glamor magazine. Internet users were outraged by the girl’s words about domestic violence. “You have to be a mentally ill person to pick up a camera and start saying, ‘Oh God, my husband is beating me.’” What is happening to the brain at the moment? There is probably some critical moment coming to say this. My husband hits me. And why? Have you thought about this? What did you do to stop him from hitting you? What did you do to make him hit you?” - Regina said emotionally. After this fiery speech, Todorenko was immediately added to the ranks of those who justify domestic violence. And, although she tried to explain that this was not at all true, the TV presenter’s career went downhill sharply. Glamor magazine was the first to show itself. The editor-in-chief of the glossy, Ilyana Erdneeva, first, as they say, hot on the heels, interviewed Todorenko, and then hastened to apologize for the conversation. “I offer my personal apologies to everyone who was hurt by what I heard, to all the girls who found themselves in a difficult life situation and did not receive enough words of support yesterday, to all our readers who felt that the publication to which they had trusted for many years with their hopes, plans, and concerns and anxiety, let them down. This is not so,” Erdneeva wrote. After this, the title “Woman of the Year” was taken away from Regina. Further, contracts with the TV presenter were suspended by several well-known brands in whose advertising she participated. “In the current situation, we do not see an opportunity to continue cooperation with Regina. Part of the funds initially allocated for the advertising campaign with her participation will be donated to support families in difficult life situations,” reads a message on the Pampers Instagram account. You don’t have to tell what was happening on the social networks of Todorenko herself and her husband at that moment. Regina even had to block comments on posts where she apologized for her words. By the way, the girl did this twice, but the situation only escalated. However, the TV presenter still managed to reduce the degree of aggression towards her.

Anna Sedokova, singer

“What I heard yesterday from Regina is very bad and wrong. No one has the right to justify violence in the family.

Mom raised us alone. Dad abandoned us, and I didn’t get it from him, because he wasn’t there. And my mother was a typical divorced woman with two children, no money and a lot of drama. But I was happy because they didn’t beat me at home. The way a neighbor from above and another neighbor of his two daughters on the floor below beat his girls. I heard screams and children crying through the walls, but they continued to live. Perhaps because there was only one thing worse for them than that - becoming my mother. To be left without a man. To be left alone. 30 years have passed and little has changed in our society. We still judge the success of a woman by the presence of a man. I know, not you and me. But advertisers and big companies do. They all want a sweet picture, a cute couple, wedding rings on their hands; a child playing three musical instruments.

What are we talking about, if even now I am condemned every day for making a choice at 21 and leaving my abusive husband? I left the one who humiliated me. Even my own mother stopped me.

And for 15 years they have been rubbing it in my face that I am not married and that I was divorced. What do they call me? I think you know very well yourself, you’ve read it. So it's me. As they say, “rich and successful.” We (women, society, the press) need to stop judging a woman's worth based on whether she has a man or not. Whether she is married or not. Does she have children at 35 or not.

A woman, like a man, is a person! And believe it or not, it’s also possible to be happy without a man (bad, drinking, beating, but any kind). I would really like to see more women who have built their own businesses in advertising campaigns and on the covers of magazines; happy single mothers without takeaways “I dream of meeting him one day.” I really want it to become the norm in our society to accept and support a woman for who she is,” writes Sedokova.

Childhood

Having conquered Russian and world catwalks, Regina was born on May 5, 1993 in the city of Khabarovsk, where as a teenager she began to participate in shows and improve her skills as a fashion model. Visual identity with the heroine of the films “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, “Maleficent”, “The Tourist” and many others appeared as she grew up, and later became her calling card, allowing her to achieve enormous success in several directions at once - modeling, on stage and in as a social media blogger.

Masha Efrosinina, TV presenter

“Violence does not start with a blow. The blow is preceded by psychological terror. In one of the shelters I met a young woman - her husband was destroying her psychologically because she... gave birth to children for him!

That is, he did not want to use protection, he did not care about how four pregnancies in a row would affect his wife’s health, but he found himself an object for the eruption of his cruelty. I’m sure there will be reactions to this story: “it was my own fault/why did I allow it?”

But every victim of violence has an answer to this. He is hers, and she has a right to him. Psychologists explained to me that they never extort from a woman the reasons why she lived with a tyrant - they work to ensure that she does not return to him. After all, since she asked for help, she understands her mistakes.

Now to the point. The story with Todorenko taught us all several clear lessons:

1. Opinion leaders of the current generation are people whom everyone follows en masse, not because they are super experts on any social topic! But because they skillfully show their sparkling life on social networks! They don’t have shutters on the windows of everyday life and personal vicissitudes! Any mistake or expert assessment of theirs, and especially in sensitive topics, is a gigantic risk of being overthrown from their own pedestal!

2. The overthrow occurs quickly and brutally. Shouting “champions” of the fight against violence make the same victim of violence out of the object of their anger, regardless of her remorse and even repentance! Doesn’t it remind you of the story of the one who “gave birth”? It seems that something was missing (one pride, the other understanding of the topic) to avoid such a situation, but the retribution for what was done is many times harsher - a monstrous public inquisition!

3. Violence is not so terrible as the inability to eradicate it in our society. We fight domestic violence, fearing that children and teenagers, seeing it at home, will adopt this pattern. But as long as these public executions continue, cruelty will continue to be ingrained in young minds as the norm. Today, mass bullying on the internet is a new weapon of destruction! Destruction without the opportunity to explain or be listened to! Destruction of mercy! Destruction to defeat!” wrote Efrosinina.

Was there plastic surgery?

It is difficult to imagine that Regina owes her beauty solely to her genes, which is why messages appear on the Internet with enviable regularity that she has undergone plastic surgery. The Instagram star always speaks out categorically on this issue, denying any surgical intervention on her appearance. Moreover, in her numerous posts and interviews, she promotes naturalness and the need to remain an individual, because every person is unique from birth.

Many support the girl’s position, but do not exclude the possibility that she once decided to undergo filler injections, because in some photos the difference in the thickness of her lips is visible.

In the last pictures, the cheekbones became clearer; the girl could remove Bisha's lumps. On the other hand, the questionable photos date back to the period before and after the competition for the title “Miss Khabarovsk,” when Regina lost more than ten kilograms.

Regina Todorenko. History of the scandal

A few days ago, Vlad Topalov and Regina Todorenko gave an interview to the Russian publication PEOPLETALK, in which they touched upon the topic of divorces of their colleagues: Dzhigan and Oksana Samoilova, Rita Dakota and Vlad Sokolovsky, as well as actors Pavel Priluchny and Agata Muceniece. During the conversation, Regina said that women should think about why men raise their hands to them or cheat on them.

Subscribers perceived the wording of Todorenko’s answer as a justification for domestic violence. As a result, Regina received thousands of angry comments, and Glamor magazine deprived her of the “Woman of the Year” award. Regina apologized twice on social networks, but it did not help. The hate and attacks continued, and a number of well-known brands plan to stop cooperating with her.

At the same time, producer Natella Krapivina and singer Svetlana Loboda, TV presenters Nikita Dobrynin and Ksenia Sobchak, the star’s husband Vlad Topalov and his sister Alina, presenter Dmitry Shepelev, singer Slava Kaminskaya and colleagues from the travel show “Eagle and Tails” came to the artist’s defense. Lesya Nikityuk and Alina Astrovskaya.
