Sergey Prokhanov - biography, photo, personal life, news, filmography 2020

The childhood of Sergei Prokhanov

Prokhanov's hometown is Moscow.
The family lived next to the House of Pioneers, thanks to which Seryozha could try himself in almost everything, attending the clubs offered by the House of Pioneers. The theater always came first. He studied music and sang quite successfully. Seryozha even appeared on television once. He had a very clear voice; they said that Prokhanov could achieve a lot in singing. The first glaring disappointment occurred when Seryozha did not become a laureate at the “Musical Spring” competition. For him it was a great psychological trauma. Around that time, his voice began to break.

Prokhanov’s family, as he himself put it, is proletarian. The father was a worker. The future actor inherited his temperament and irrepressibility from his father, who was always the life of the party. From his mother he inherited a dislike for showing off.

Prokhanov graduated from a physics and mathematics school; he liked the exact sciences. At the same time, he studied in a theater studio. The young man chose the Shchukin School for himself and became its student. Sergei took Vera Lvova’s course. Many people called Prokhanov radiant at that time. It was a wonderful time. The students of this course were called nothing less than “celebration artists”; they hosted television programs on TV and could lift people’s spirits.

Biography[ | ]

I was raised as an ordinary child, next to whose house there was the Palace of Pioneers. In the circles of this Palace I was taught music, singing, and dancing. Almost a noble upbringing - and everything is free[2].

In 1974 he graduated from the B.V. Shchukin Theater School (course of V.K. Lvova [3]) and joined the troupe of the Mossovet Theater. In 1981, having played Sashka in the play of the same name based on the story by V. L. Kondratiev, directed by G. Chernyakhovsky, Prokhanov declared himself as a serious and talented actor. During the same period, the films “Mustachioed Nanny”, “The Young Wife” and “Thrice About Love” were released on the screens of the country. He was the host of the children's television show Alarm Clock.

In 1986 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the actor devoted a lot of time to the stage and performed in concert programs as a reader.

In 1990, Sergei Prokhanov took part as a director in the creation of the play “Jesus Christ Superstar” by E. Lloyd-Webber on the stage of the Mossovet Theater, where he also played the role of King Herod. After this, the actor decides to create his own theater. At first it was a commercial theater-studio of realistic fiction at the Soyuzconcert, and later Prokhanov opened the “Theater of the Moon” with his own funds. The theater was located next to the Mossovet Theater, in one of the basements on the Patriarch's Ponds, then moved to the center of Moscow.

In the theater's repertoire:

  • “Byzantium” (based on “The Poisoned Tunic” by N. Gumilyov, 1994),
  • "Little Robinson's Dreams" (1995),
  • "Dreams of an Adult Robinson" (1995),
  • "Fanta-Infanta" (1996),
  • "Tender is the Night" (1997),
  • “Thais the Shining” (1999) and others.

Most of the plays for the theater's performances were written or revised by Sergei Prokhanov himself. Famous artists at one time played in the “Theater of the Moon”: Valentin Smirnitsky, Dmitry Pevtsov, Chulpan Khamatova, Anatoly Romashin, Marina Blake. Now the theater troupe also has many stars: Sergei Vinogradov, Elena Zakharova, Anna Terekhova, Evgeny Gerchakov, Mark Alisov, Alexey Losikhin, Valeria Lanskaya, Anastasia Stotskaya, Dmitry Bikbaev, Oleg Marusev, Elena Tsorn, Veronika Lysakova.

Since 1999, Prokhanov has been the head of the course at RATI. Since 2005 - People's Artist of the Russian Federation.

The beginning of the filmography of Sergei Prokhanov

While still in school, Sergei began acting. His first film is “Family, Like Family.” His role was small. The aspiring actor played Lena's friend who was present at the New Year's party. As a student, he also played in “Yulka”, “The Cheerful Kaleidoscope”, and starred as a pioneer leader in the film “Oh, this Nastya!” and etc.

Actor Sergei Prokhanov in his youth

It turns out that after graduating from theater school in 1974, Sergei was already actively acting. His first theater was the Mossovet Theater, where he was invited as a college graduate. There he successfully debuted on the same stage with honored masters, but being successful in cinema, Sergei played only minor roles there for a number of years.

The real turning point occurred when the audience saw the actor in the title role in the production of “Sasha.” From that moment on, he was considered a serious actor in the theater. It would seem that everything was going well, but at that time such eminent directors as Viktyuk, Chernyakhovsky and Ginkas left the theater.

The best films of Sergei Prokhanov

Sergei actively acted in film, managing to take part in three or four films in a year, and played a lot on stage. Success came to Prokhanov after he played the main role in “The Mustachioed Nanny.” He felt what it was like to be famous. He was offered to play, most often, cheerful and active guys. He was offered a similar role in the film “Breakfast on the Grass.” There he was a counselor at a pioneer camp and again raised children. Since 1981, the roles offered have been mostly minor or episodic.

At that time, he played in the films “Leapfrog”, “First Cavalry”, “Sashka”, “Wingspan”, “Feat of Odessa”, “White Crows”, etc.

Prokhanov received a prominent role in the film, which viewers saw in 1991. Its name is “Genius”. Alexander Abdulov starred in the title role. Sergei played a speculator named Kostya.

The actor decided to finally part with cinema after filming in the detective story “Wanderers' Rest” was completed, where he again had a small role.

The actor believed that cinema was dead and he had nothing to do in it. He completely switched to working in the theater. However, on the screen, TV viewers also saw Prokhanov as a TV presenter. He hosted a program about the movie “Know Ours.” Sergei thought that over time it would turn into an almanac, he planned to create several interesting sections, but in reality the TV show began to resemble a quiz show about certain films. Despite the fact that he liked working as a TV presenter, he left television.

Sergei Prokhanov at the Theater of the Moon

The actor decided to create a creative cooperative “Masquerade” at the theater. When his home theater began preparing a production of the famous musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” his cooperative took upon itself to provide the corps de ballet, without which this musical would not have been possible. It must be said that, as the head of the cooperative, Prokhanov coped with this task perfectly. The audience saw the musical in 1992. The co-director was Prokhanov. It should be noted that this production remains popular to this day and is performed on the stage of the same theater.

Now Sergei Prokhanov has created his own theater

When, as a director, Prokhanov began staging “Byzantium” on the stage of his native theater, it turned out that he had to wait in line to get into the repertoire. We could have waited a year or two. From that moment it became clear that we needed our own theater. This would immediately give Sergei the opportunity to act independently.

Theater

In 1974, Sergei Prokhanov graduated from theater school and began working at the Mossovet Theater. He played on the same stage with the masters of the theater, and it was a great experience.

Sergei Prokhanov in the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar”

In the first few years, the aspiring actor was not offered any serious roles. The situation changed dramatically after the play “Sasha”, in which Prokhanov played the main role. Directors and colleagues saw him as a serious actor. His career took off, but Roman Viktyuk and other talented directors left the Mossovet Theater. With their departure, Sergei Borisovich's theatrical career began to stagnate.

In 1990, the actor organized the Masquerade cooperative. When the Mossovet Theater decided to stage the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Prokhanov’s cooperative financed the corps de ballet, and he himself co-directed the production. The musical premiered in 1992 and was a great success. It must be said that even today the musical is performed on the theater stage.

Sergei Prokhanov in the theater

Inspired by the success, Sergei Prokhanov began working on the play “Byzantium”. He hoped that the audience of his native theater would soon see his new directorial work. But it turned out to be difficult to get through - the theater administration bluntly explained to Prokhanov that the play would not be included in the repertoire soon. Then he decided to create his own theater, fortunately, he earned money for this in a cooperative. “Theater of the Moon” was located in the basement on the Patriarch’s Ponds, and then moved to the center of the capital.

Since its opening, the Luni Theater team, under the leadership of Prokhanov, has staged a new play every year, expanding its repertoire. In 1994, the play “Dreams of Little Robinson” based on the play by O. Mikhailova appeared, and a year later there was a play hinting at the continuation of the plot - “Dreams of an adult Robinson.” In 1996, the premiere of the play “Fanta Infanta” took place at the Luna Theater. The following year, the premieres of two productions took place: the performances “Tender is the Night” and “Faust”. A year later, “Thais the Shining” appeared, and a year later, “The Journey of Amateurs.”

Sergei Prokhanov, play “Fanta Infanta”

The theater welcomed the new millennium with two productions at once: “Charlie Cha...” and “Old New Faust.” From that moment on, premieres in the theater ceased to take place annually. The team presented the next two productions to the audience in 2002 - “Lips” and “I... hide”. In 2004, the Moon Theater staged Diagnosis: Edith Piaf, and a year later - Lyromania.

2007 brought the premiere of the production “Natural Extreme”, then new performances again became annual: “Bullfight, or A Romance with a Sleepless Night”, “Mary Poppins - Next”, “Prosecutor's Parable”. Then a year-long break followed, and the performances “Chauntecleer”, “Dali and the Spanish Queen from Kazan” were staged one after another.

Over the 20 years of its existence, many famous actors have played in the performances of the “Theater of the Moon”. Director Prokhanov's productions are distinguished by their dreaminess and sensuality; the director strives to show the viewer a different world, in which there is no place for poverty and a philistine view of life. The peculiarity of Sergei Prokhanov’s creative approach to the production is its romantic elation and emphasis on theatrical mystery.

The performances staged by Sergei Prokhanov are distinguished by a cosmic worldview, where the characters exist between heaven and earth. This style of performances, as well as the lyrical musical design, create an attractive and mysterious atmosphere that has become. And the names of the performances are sublime, for example, “Tender is the Night,” “Lyromania,” “Thais the Shining” and others.

Sergey Prokhanov currently

Prokhanov collected all the money earned by the cooperative in order to open his own theater. He found the premises completely by accident. This is a basement not far from the Mossovet Theater. The name of his theater is “Moon Theater”.

So Sergei became a director. He reworks all the theater productions himself. Prokhanov believes that from that moment he became completely different, they were no longer responsible for him, but he was responsible for his troupe.

Over its more than twenty-year history, many famous actors have played in the “Theater of the Moon”. All productions are emotional and sensual, and not without eroticism. Prokhanov does not tolerate anything simple, he believes that in the theater the audience should feel a dream, should see another world. In the “Theater of the Moon” there are no productions about poverty, about some “Vaskas” and “Petkas”. The very name of the performances speaks of their airiness and cosmic quality: “Lyromania”, “Little Moon”, “Tender is the Night”, “Thais the Shining”.

There is a film studio at the Prokhanov Theater. Its name is “Moon-film”. Prokhanov starred in the leading role in the first film. In the story, the director says goodbye to his theater and hands it over to another director.

Personal life of Sergei Prokhanov

Sergei Borisovich met his future wife when he was vacationing at his friends’ dacha. Her name is Tatyana. She is the granddaughter of two famous marshals - Vasilevsky and Zhukov. The girl was then in tenth grade. They started dating. Tatyana entered the institute. They got married when she turned eighteen.

When the recently married Tatiana and Sergei received their first two-room apartment, Sergei removed almost all the interior partitions during the renovation. The family was even threatened with eviction for this. So the newlyweds lived in a spacious apartment until the children appeared and they needed a nursery. We had to build the walls again. This time, Sergei Borisovich remodeled it so that he even had a small office.

The couple lived together for twenty-five years. There were different times in their lives; the acting profession could not help but affect family life. His wife raised their two children. The eldest daughter became a costume designer. She works in her father's theater.

Now Prokhanov is divorced. He lives alone.

Mustachioed Nanny and his Moon. What Sergei Prokhanov regrets

Sergei was born in Moscow, into a family with strong northern and southern roots: one of his grandfathers was a Siberian, the other a Gypsy. As the actor himself says, the nuclear mixture of blood makes him his own throughout the entire length of our country. She is probably responsible for Prokhanov’s artistic temperament and some unexpected talents.

He calls his family proletarian: his father was a worker at one of the closed industries, his mother, due to poor health, only did housework. In my father's family, the men were singers and jokers, they loved holidays and guests. Many of my maternal relatives drew. But Seryozha’s passion for the arts did not appear immediately. His first abilities that were noticed at school were his penchant for logical thinking and mathematics.

Before reaching the middle level, the boy learned to multiply three-digit numbers in his head, which greatly surprised adults. The director of a regular Moscow school called the parents and strongly recommended transferring their son to a special educational institution with a mathematical focus. But even after getting into a prestigious school, he did not think about entering a technical university.

Additional classes

Oh, this Nastya! (1971)

So that the child would not be bored among the numbers, his dad took him to classes - vocals, dancing, martial arts... But, if in the world of mathematical formulas Prokhanov was a real king, then he lost the first vocal competition, without becoming a laureate. This fact hit the teenager’s pride terribly. It was as if he had quarreled with himself and absolutely did not want to do this anymore.

But, having matured a little, Seryozha became interested in girls. According to his friends, there were so many of them in the theater studio, not far from their home. It was decided - I need to become an actor! It is not known whether the young actor became popular with the fairer sex, but he clearly made an impression on the teachers. By high school, they gave him the idea of going to theater school after math school, rather than technical school.

The school protested until the last minute. One of the most talented mathematics students was called to a teachers’ meeting: “Do you understand that talent is actually needed there?” the ebullient teachers asked the high school student, confident that he would choose a profession related to mathematics. But Prokhanov was not used to giving up his desires.

An intelligent and talented boy carefully prepared a program for theater, went to three universities - Shchukinskoye, Shchepkinskoye and GITIS, and gave his best at auditions at each. The actor says that after the entrance exams, he stood at the stands with the lists of applicants in a dirty shirt - having diligently ran the exam marathon, by the time the results were summed up he was no longer able to care about such trifles.

Student

Cheerful Kaleidoscope (1974)

He entered all three universities, chose “Pike” and took a course with Vera Lvova, a student of Vakhtangov himself. “The Vakhtangov school is an eternal carnival,” says Prokhanov. They were the loudest and most fun course, just as he wanted. The jokes and jokes did not end between classes, but work, even in one’s specialty, was not encouraged. However, already in his first year he began to play his first small roles.

In the films “Family, Like Family” and “Oh, This Nastya” the actor appeared in episodes, in the second he was not even listed in the credits. But the next film, “And the Steamships Hum and Go,” where he appeared again for only a few minutes, brought Sergei Borisovich fame. Prokhanov recalls how he was called out on the street and invited to have a glass: “It’s your fan’s birthday,” they explained to the actor.

While working on his first leading role, in the film “Yulka,” he realized for the first time how difficult it can be for an artist. Filming took place in Odessa; it was impossible to leave school in Moscow. The actor lived in two cities: during the day at the university, on an evening flight he flew to Odessa, the night of filming and again to Moscow, at his desk. In total, he made 105 flights during this time.

Actor

Mustachioed Nanny (1977)

After graduation, the talented actor was enrolled in the troupe of the Mossovet Theater. He continued to work in films, but played mostly minor roles.

When Vladimir Grammatikov decided to film his “Mustachioed Nanny,” he could not even imagine that it would be so difficult to find a young and charismatic actor for the main role. By the time Prokhanov got to the audition, the director had already turned down a whole string of artists.

Only later does Sergei Borisovich learn that for the audition, the middle group of the kindergarten was ordered to stand on their ears and in every possible way infuriate the actor. Finding himself in an uncontrollable children's company, Prokhanov realized: you can't go with them according to the script, you need a game. He immediately remembered what he had studied in his first year and offered sketches to the little imps. Silence reigned. A few minutes later, the surprised Grammatikov looked into the room: “What are you doing here?!”

Filming was not easy. Organizing the kids so that they behave as the director intended was a huge task. Prokhanov promised to give his mustache to the most exemplary child. The mustache, by the way, was glued on to him by make-up artists. The young actor only grew his own towards the end of filming. The funny bristle brush delighted the children; everyone tried to behave well in order to get a souvenir home.

After the premiere, it turned out that Grammatikov had shot a masterpiece. Several million viewers, popular love and instant fame. But filming could have been postponed indefinitely: in the midst of work, the actor was drafted into the army. But a few days later, Prokhanov, already shaved bald, was returned straight from the military unit to the director. Marshal Vasilevsky, whose son-in-law Sergei Borisovich was already at that time, personally helped.

Love

The Young Wife (1978)

He was already an actor who had starred in several films: a fourth-year theater student, a confident gait, a proud look. We came with friends to go skiing at one of the recreation centers in the Moscow region and met two lovely high school girls. Those, skipping chemistry, drank tea from a thermos right at the station, sticking their skis in a snowdrift. They took pity on the girls and gave them the key to the house where they planned to stay.

The actor says that that day he and the guys rode for four hours and, when returning, they no longer thought that they would find the girls. But it turned out that they were not going to school. We settled down in our rooms and together prepared a sparse but tasty dinner. Sergei immediately fell for the beautiful Tanya. And only after returning to Moscow and realizing that the girl had settled in his heart for a long time, did he find out who she was.

It turned out that she was the granddaughter of two marshals at once - Zhukov and Vasilevsky, a bright representative of the golden youth, whose family, even during the Iron Curtain, was accustomed to “real” life. It took a long time to gain favor. Parents saw next to their daughter at least a member of the Politburo, but not an aspiring artist.

But when the girl entered MGIMO and showed that she was not going to immediately become pregnant and give up her own studies, they gave the go-ahead for the wedding. Prokhanov says that Tatyana always behaved extremely wisely. She didn’t delve into his personal life, didn’t believe gossip, and always gave short and biting comments to the passions with whom her husband allegedly had affairs, which Seryozha could not help but listen to.

This marriage produced two children - the eldest daughter Nastya now works for her father at the Luna Theater, she is a costume designer. Son Anton first became interested in traveling, then diving, and now he has decided to make his hobby a profession. Today he owns a hotel and diving center in the Philippines.

But their dad, having once tried himself as a co-director and producer, became interested in creating a new theater!

Moon Theater

The idea did not come immediately. First, at the Mossovet Theater, where Prokhanov served for quite a long time at that time, it was decided to stage the country’s first rock opera, “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Preparing for such an event required serious expenses, and Sergei Borisovich then organized a cooperative, which took responsibility for what is now called producing. In parallel with this, he acted as a co-director and played in the production of King Herod.

The new format of the performance was a resounding success. Believing in himself, Sergei Borisovich took on the next idea, but the management of his native theater looked at it differently than the actor would have liked. Then he decided to create his own theater, known today as the Theater of the Moon. Then it was a small semi-basement on Patriarch's Street, now the theater has moved to the center of Moscow.

Dmitry Pevtsov, Chulpan Khamatova, Anastasia Stotskaya and many other now famous artists began their careers here. Prokhanov is still shining new stars today, and the theater’s permanent artistic director is only rejoicing at the success with which the performances are taking place. Even at the beginning of its journey, the Moon Theater was lucky with its audience: for one of the premieres, Sergei Borisovich even had to buy 30 plastic chairs from a nearby cafe in order to seat everyone.

Life

Today he regrets a little about such a bright role, which forever placed him in the framework of the only role of a charming goofball and took away many others, but he is happy with his full realization in the theater. The actor has also said more than once that he regrets the divorce.

After 25 years of marriage, Sergei divorced Tatyana. His wife turned a blind eye to his affairs all her life, and then one day she didn’t come home to spend the night - she stayed with a friend. Placed in conditions in which his wife usually found himself, Prokhanov created a jealous scandal and filed for divorce. Now he considers this act reckless, calls Tanya his only native woman and regrets his persistence.

He lives alone, continues to run the Luna Theater and does not act in films at all.
