Childhood and family of Pavel Tabakov

Pavel Tabakov was born into the family of a famous Soviet and Russian actor, director, founder of the theater school Oleg Tabakov and actress Marina Zudina. By the way, Pavel has a sister Maria (born when Pavel was 11 years old), as well as half-brother Anton (from the marriage of Oleg Tabakov with Lyudmila Krylova), a businessman, actor, restaurateur, and a sister Sasha.

Pavel himself describes his childhood as “ordinary and happy.” Parents raised Pavel with warmth and love. And although the boy knew very well what an outstanding family he was lucky to be born into, he never suffered from “star fever”: he grew up as a moderately calm, uncapricious child, played a lot of yard football in the yard, suffered from asthma, his favorite subjects at school were literature and biology. Like many guys, at first I dreamed of becoming a truck driver, then a bodyguard.

Oleg Tabakov didn’t exactly keep his son under a tight rein, but he didn’t let him relax, he taught Pavel to be a responsible and well-mannered boy. Parents taught their son to know the value of money from early childhood. From 4th to 6th grade, Pavel recalled, he was allocated 500 rubles a week for pocket expenses, from 6th to 9th grade - 1000 rubles a week. After 9th grade, Pavel began earning money himself.

Pavel Tabakov graduated from Oleg Tabakov's theater school

After graduating from nine classes, Pavel entered the Moscow Theater School, created by his father, on a general basis. The senior Tabakov’s participation in his son’s admission ended with the question: “Will you try to enroll?”, warning that it would not be possible to get into college “through connections.” The guy had to move out of his father’s house, since studying at this college required mandatory residence in a dormitory for everyone, without exception. The young man gladly took the opportunity to become independent and independent.

During his studies, Pavel took part in the plays “Viy”, “Biloxi Blues”, “The Year When I Was Not Born”, “Sailor Silence”, “Nameless Star”. In the latter, Pavel played the role of astronomy teacher Mira, whose main dream in life was to discover a star. Pavel with stunning success played a thin, poor teacher, ready to fight with representatives of the “golden youth” for his beloved, after which he gained fame as a romantic hero.

Pavel Tabakov: “I realized early on that I couldn’t disgrace the family name”

— Pavel, the role in the film “Star” is your first experience of filming a movie. How do you assess your debut? — I don’t evaluate it at all yet. I simply have nothing to compare with. However, I don’t view my film debut as a challenge. Just my first experience in a new field, a significant event that I will remember all my life. But I will judge whether I succeed or fail based on my subsequent work.

— Your hero Kostya does not get along with his father and stepmother, goes against the will of his elders, skips school, and is sometimes capable of inappropriate actions. Do you have anything in common with him? — At the time of filming I was old. He grows up, meets his first love, he has his own truth, and he is ready to prove his point by any means. Every teenager has it in him. It happened to me too.

— Was your first love as dramatic as your hero’s? - It seems to me that it goes through approximately the same scenario for everyone. My hero is going through the period of first love and perceives everything very vividly; for him, just a kiss already means a relationship. First love is either for life or a drama.

— What difficulties did you encounter during filming? - It was very cold. When you’ve been outside for five or six hours, and you’re literally shaking, then at the command “Motor!” It's quite difficult to show that you are warm and comfortable, like on a pleasant summer day. You need to pull yourself together immediately.

— Do you now have any level that you would like to achieve in your profession? — No, because I don’t make long-term plans. I have an example of my brother Anton, who proved himself very well, and then realized that it was not for him. At the age of 30, he quit cinema and started doing something completely different. As long as I like it, I do it, develop myself. But if acting suddenly stops being fun, I’ll start looking for myself in another field.

— But you didn’t immediately decide to go to theater school. However, at what point did you realize that you wanted to be an actor? — It was in the ninth grade. I tossed around for a very long time. But then I was guided by the fact that the general education that I would receive at the Moscow Theater College was much higher than school education. Our teachers are from Moscow State University and MGIMO, and this is a completely different level. In addition, artistry is important in any profession. — Do you really live in a dormitory? - Yes.

- But why not at home? - Because I sleep better this way. Why wake up at seven, take a shower, have breakfast and go to college, if you can get up at eight, go downstairs for breakfast and go straight to class. I get an extra hour of sleep. Besides, this is a good school of life. You live with people you may not like, but you have to get along with them. All this tempers.

- Maybe it’s just a desire to quickly escape from parental care and have fun with friends? - Well, of course, there is that too. Although in my case this is not entirely true, because the artistic director is my father. Besides, we have a strict schedule in the dorm, so you don’t have much fun. Here you can’t smoke, drink, or come later than eleven, unless you have a performance in the theater or filming. For example, on Friday you could rest. But if I have a shoot on Saturday, discipline makes itself felt: I won’t walk around until I don’t understand what state and then come to my shift looking like a vegetable.

— Probably, your last name also makes you be more restrained in behavior than your peers? “I realized early on that under no circumstances should I disgrace the family name.” When I was in fifth grade, we were once walking with friends in a large group. And one of us had a bottle of champagne. We were taken to the police station. And my dad came to the department to pick me up. He didn’t tell me anything then, but from his silence everything was clear. And I decided that I would do everything to prevent such stories from repeating themselves.

— Do you consult with your parents in matters of your personal life? Meet girls? - If it seems to me that the relationship with the girl is more or less serious, then yes. If I understand that all this is not for long, and there are no deep feelings, then no. Why bother them?

— Your dad got married for the first time quite early. Are you not thinking about family life yet? - Not yet.

- Only about work? - Not in this case. Before me is the example of my brother, who had five wives. I don't want to repeat his path in this regard. I dream of meeting a person whom I will bring to my parents and say: “I want this woman to become the mother of my children.” And when I meet such a woman, I will immediately understand that she is the one, the only one.
