Father is a mathematician, mother is a chemical engineer. “After the war, everyone had a constant feeling of some kind of threat, people were rarely happy, people were tired,” Petrosyan recalled. “When I was seven, I went to a comedy concert and saw one uncle standing on stage, telling something, and thousands of people laughing. I have never seen so many joyful, happy faces. And I wanted to become such an uncle.”

In the late 50s, Baku was considered one of the most vibrant cultural centers of the USSR, so young Petrosyan could not complain about the lack of food to satisfy his artistic hunger. The young comedian got a job with Leonid Osipovich in the orchestra and worked as an entertainer for almost 5 years. Petrosyan left Utesov with a scandal, causing great offense to the great artist, but work at the Mosconcert then seemed more promising to him.
