Yuri Chernov: the beginning of the journey
The future artist was born in Samara, a joyful event occurred in April 1949. Yuri Chernov was born into the family of a graphic designer and a saleswoman; there were no movie stars among his relatives. The boy inherited his interest in creative activities from his mother. The woman had a magnificent voice, often sang at home and enjoyed performing in friendly companies.
Yuri Chernov loves to remember his childhood, as it was happy. Yura and his sister spent their summer holidays in pioneer camps. The future actor took his studies responsibly, always completed his homework and never copied from his classmates. However, those around him were convinced that the boy did not have to get good grades, because he would still become a famous artist. Chernov liked to parody other people, perform in front of audiences and receive applause.
At the age of 12, with the approval of his parents, he began to take part in performances staged by the Kuibyshev Television Studio. The boy also read poetry, danced and sang live. This did not bring him fame, but Chernov gained valuable experience.

Born Artist
Yuri Chernov was born on April 24, 1949 in Samara (then still called Kuibyshev). His father worked as a graphic designer at the Kuibyshev Aviation Plant, and his mother worked as a saleswoman in a store. As the actor himself admits: “If I have talent, it comes from my mother, Valentina Ivanovna.” Valentina Ivanovna had a magnificent voice and was a very friendly person. Visitors to the store loved her very much, and even an article about her was published in the newspaper entitled “The Mistress of the Counter.”
Yuri Chernov remembers his childhood very joyfully: “I grew up in pioneer camps - in order to take my sister and me to nature in the summer, my father got a job in the camp as an artist.” At school, Yuri studied well (until the fifth grade he was an excellent student), he never cheated, because even then he believed that in life you should always rely only on yourself. However, those around him unanimously said: “Why do you need to study, you’re a born artist!” He always considered himself an artist: he loved to sing, he was always impersonating someone.
His parents, noticing their son’s artistic abilities, supported him and at the age of 12 sent him to the Kuibyshev television studio. At that time, television performances were a big thing, and Yuri began to take part in them. In addition, he participated in game programs, read poetry, sang, and danced live.
Circus school
After graduating from school, Yuri went to Moscow with the firm intention of conquering the capital's stage. He applied to almost all theater universities, and failure followed everywhere. It is unknown how everything would have turned out further if not for chance.

In Moscow, Yuri lived in a GITIS dormitory. One of his friends who lived there was preparing to enter the circus school. He asked Yuri to play along with him on the guitar during his exams, and he agreed. During the exams, they paid attention to Yuri Chernov, noticing that he was somewhat similar to the famous clown Oleg Popov. So, unexpectedly for himself, Yuri became a student.
Yuri Chernov has admitted more than once that he does not regret at all the years spent within the walls of the circus school. Here he learned to play various musical instruments (accordion, balalaika, guitar, trumpet and clarinet), mastered many circus skills, which later came in handy in his concert activities. “We had a wonderful course,” the actor recalls, “actors from different theater schools, including Kostya Raikin, came to us for classes in fencing, plastic arts, and horse riding.”
Syromyatnikov
Students, as a rule, are poor people. To earn extra money, many acted as extras and in episodes of various films. Yuri Chernov also started with this. In one of these films, director Stanislav Rostotsky’s assistant drew attention to him and invited him to audition for the film “We’ll Live Until Monday.” “I had not yet had time to enter,” recalls Yuri Chernov, “but from all sides it was already heard: “Oh, Syromyatnikov!” They hired me right away, without auditions, and filming began.”
It is worth noting that the management of the circus school, to put it mildly, did not welcome the participation of its students in the filming of films. Yuri had to film in secret, showing miracles of resourcefulness. “I had so many excuses, different reasons, how many grandmothers, aunties and other relatives I “buried,” as if a terrible epidemic had passed in Samara. So for the second film I no longer had any “living” relatives,” recalls the actor.
On the set of the film “We'll Live Until Monday,” outstanding actors Nina Menshikova, Vyacheslav Tikhonov and Irina Pechernikova played remarkable roles. The roles of the students are GITIS students Olga Ostroumova and Igor Starygin, as well as high school students from Moscow schools. Yuri Chernov admits that it was easy to work, the team looked like a single whole, and the atmosphere on the set was amazing. “Like our characters, we were also in love with Irina Pechernikova, we simply idolized her,” recalls the actor, “we treated Vyacheslav Tikhonov with incredible respect, he was an idol for us: I called my mother and shouted into the phone: “Mom, I’m filming with Tikhonov!”
Perhaps it is precisely in such conditions that masterpieces are born. The film “We'll Live Until Monday” is, without any exaggeration, a masterpiece. It was a rare case in Soviet cinema when school life was told truthfully, without embellishment. And the teachers turned out to be very different: educated, and not very educated, with all the real human advantages and disadvantages. The students turned out to be just as reliable – especially here, of course, I should note the performance of Igor Starygin.
One of the students was played by Yuri Chernov. His hero was the charming poor student Syromyatnikov. To some extent, he is a buffoon - in the good sense of the word. His lines from the film are still remembered by viewers: “My mother told me that it’s not good to kill birds” or “And Russia, after Peter I, has no luck with tsars.” And the famous phrase of the teacher (hero Vyacheslav Tikhonov) addressed to Syromyatnikov: “If you put one, you get Yuri Nikulin.” By the way, the script should have read: “If you put one, you’ll get Oleg Popov.” But both Chernov and Tikhonov were very sympathetic to Nikulin and therefore persuaded Rostotsky to change the phrase.
Fame and its consequences
The film “We'll Live Until Monday” was released in 1968 and was received with a bang by the audience. At the House of Cinema after the premiere, the audience gave a standing ovation. Yuri Chernov instantly became very popular. People recognized him on the street, and his famous lines from the film were rushing after him. Numerous offers from film directors poured in.
One of these offers was the role of Petrukha in the famous film by Vladimir Motyl “White Sun of the Desert”. However, the teachers flatly stated: “Choose: either you act in films, or study at school.” Yuri felt that his studies were more important and refused the role. He recalls: “It’s a pity, because Petrukha is a role for me, I could play along with something on the guitar for Luspekayev, sing along... Then I decided that studying was more important, no one knew that the film would become a cult..."
In the shadow
After graduating from the Moscow Circus School, Yuri Chernov fell out of the sight of moviegoers for some time. For five years he worked at the Philharmonic, and occasionally acted in films in tiny episodes. However, today hardly anyone remembers those roles. For example, in the famous comedy by Gaidai, he played one of the balalaika players and was not even listed in the credits of the film.
A turning point in the fate of Yuri Chernov was his participation in the filming of Sergei Yutkevich’s film “Mayakovsky Laughs” (1975). In this film the actor played the main role of Pierre Prisypkin. At first it was planned to create a full-length two-part film, but due to illness Yutkevich was forced to suspend filming. The edited material did not even reach one episode, and then the director began to dilute it with puppet and hand-drawn animation. Unexpectedly, it was in place, reminding the viewer of the times of “Windows of GROWTH”. The film turned out to be bright, unusual, quite in the spirit of the work of the great poet, but, unfortunately, it remained outside the attention of the mass audience.
Although the audience and “brothers in the shop” did not notice Yuri Chernov then, nevertheless, the film played an important role in the life of the actor. That same year, he decided to leave the Philharmonic, and at the invitation of his friend Leonid Baskin, he came to work at the Moscow Theater of Miniatures. In addition, having decided to make up for lost time in cinema, Yuri entered GITIS, the correspondence department of the faculty of stage direction and mass cultural performances.
Episode King
In the period from the second half of the 70s to the early 90s, Yuri Chernov acted in films a lot. True, there were no main roles in his career, only supporting roles and cameos. But sometimes it is the episodic hero who makes the picture unique. In the history of Soviet cinema there are several great masters, real kings of the episode. For example: Mikhail Pugovkin or Lilian Malkina. And the great Faina Ranevskaya did not always play the main roles, often shining in episodes. So Yuri Chernov had the honor of becoming the king of the episode. Many viewers remember and love him for his roles as orderly Zubkov from the comedy “Balamut”, dad Syroezhkin from the children’s science fiction film “Adventures of Electronics”, driver Nikolai from the TV series “Gypsy”, clerk Chumichka from the fairy tale “There, on Unknown Paths...”.
Often he had to play negative characters. And how brilliantly he did it! In Stepan Puchinyan’s psychological detective story “From the Life of the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department,” he played a bandit named Koryto. He played so realistically that the audience believed in his existence. The actor recalls the following incident: “One day, returning home, I caught a taxi and said: “I’m going to Petrovka.” In response: “Well, Koryto, are you going to give up?”
90s
In the 90s, the actor acted in films much less frequently. From 1994 to 1999, Yuri Chernov worked at the Luna Theater under the direction of Sergei Prokhanov. He played in the children's play “Little Robinson's Dreams”, as well as in the play “Tender is the Night”. But then, due to workload in entrepreneurial projects, he was forced to leave their theater.
In the new century
A new period in Yuri Chernov’s film career began in 2002. With the development of Russian cinema, the talented actor again became in demand. He still plays bit parts. Viewers could see him in films and TV series: “Detective in Russian”, “Estate”, “Poltergeist Trap”, “Main Caliber”, “Tycophs. To be together", "Adele" and others.
Social activity
Yuri Chernov has been actively collaborating with the Society of Disabled People for many years. Together with fellow actors, he traveled a lot around the country with concerts for the disabled, and also, together with representatives of the Philanthropist Foundation, searched for talent among such people.
Personal life
Yuri Chernov got married for the first time in his youth. “I studied at a circus school, she lived across the street, went to study at a theater studio, and we met,” the actor recalls. And although they had a daughter, Anna, that marriage was unsuccessful.
Yuri Chernov met his future second wife within the walls of GITIS, where she worked at the department of foreign theater. “I came to enroll, looked into some classroom - either for a pen or a ruler, and she was sitting there,” says Yuri Nikolaevich. — Somehow we immediately started talking. It’s probably fate - after all, I could have walked into another classroom and nothing would have happened.”
He and Valentina have been together for many years. The couple have two children: son Maxim and daughter Yaroslava. Yaroslava followed in her father's footsteps, becoming an actress. Yuri Nikolaevich also maintains a relationship with his first daughter Anna, who gave him a grandson Alexei.

Circus school
By the time he graduated from school, Yuri Chernov no longer doubted that he wanted to connect his life with dramatic art. The young man went to the capital, having no doubt that he would easily be able to conquer this city. He tried to enroll in several theater universities, but was denied admission everywhere.
Yura, in despair, was already seriously thinking about returning to his hometown, but providence intervened. His dormitory friend told him about the circus school, which he was planning to enroll in soon. The young man agreed to go with a friend to the exam and play along on the guitar. It is not known whether the friend managed to become a student at the school, but Chernov himself was accepted, appreciating his artistry.
The artist does not at all regret the years he spent studying at the circus school. Thanks to this, he mastered circus tricks and learned to play the clarinet, trumpet, guitar and balalaika. Chernov also made loyal friends with whom he still maintains relationships.
The first roles and films of Oleg Chernov
Working in a mine was a necessary measure for Chernov, because he knew firsthand how much it undermines his health, so when a friend suggested that he go to work as a stage assembler in a theater, he agreed without hesitation.
The theatrical behind-the-scenes life impressed Oleg so much that he also wanted to be involved in it. Subsequently, the same friend invited him to enter a theater university, and after some deliberation, the future actor agreed. The joy of this radical change in life was overshadowed only by a difficult break with his wife Lyudmila, who did not want to be left alone with a six-month-old son in her arms. But this did not stop Oleg, and he set off to conquer the theater stage.
Chernov easily entered the Krasnoyarsk State Institute of Arts at the theater department, where he studied for two years, but, unfortunately, was expelled due to the fact that he missed a very important rehearsal. When he was already sitting at the station waiting for the train that would take him to Prokopyevsk, Chernov was found by a teacher from the institute, who offered him patronage for admission without exams to the Far Eastern Pedagogical Institute of Arts, located in Vladivostok, but the young man refused, and went to enroll in Saratov State Conservatory at the theater department. Chernov studied on a course with Valentina Ermakova, who was a teacher for such stars as Evgeny Mironov and Galina Tyunina.
After graduating from the conservatory, Oleg began working at the Omsk theater, leaving from there to work on local television, he lost his departmental housing, and found himself, literally, on the street. He had to spend the night in the offices of the television channel where he worked. The actor endured such trials with difficulty, because he was already 34 years old - the age when most people are already standing firmly on their feet and starting a family.
Finest hour
“We'll Live Until Monday” is a film in which the aspiring actor played his first starring role. He received the opportunity to star in this film, which tells truthfully and without embellishment about school life, thanks to the assistant of director Stanislav Rostotsky, who noticed him in the crowd of some film. The creators of the film immediately liked Chernov; he was approved for the role of Syromyatnikov without any tests.
Syromyatnikov, Yuri’s hero, made a great impression on the audience. The charming loser and jester said a lot of remarks that went down among the people. The actor had to act in the film almost secretly, since the school management disapproved of students who act in films. Yuri was forced to constantly come up with excuses for his absenteeism.
The difficulties did not deter the novice actor; he enjoyed acting in this film. Chernov was delighted that he had the opportunity to share the set with the stars of Russian cinema. Vyacheslav Tikhonov, Nina Menshikova, Irina Pechernikova, Igor Starygin took part in the creation of the film. Tikhonov was his idol, so he proudly told his parents that he was working with him.

Glory
The drama “We'll Live Until Monday” created a sensation; almost all the actors who starred in this film became stars. Yuri began to be recognized on the street, directors inundated him with offers of new roles.
Chernov could play Petrukha in the famous film “White Sun of the Desert” by Vladimir Motyl. Unfortunately, the school teachers forbade him to accept this role and threatened him with expulsion. The actor decided that he had to finish his studies, so he refused to film. In the future, Chernov regretted his refusal, since the role of Petrukha was ideal for him, and the film became very popular.
Cinema
Yuri Chernov made his film debut in 1968, and the role of high school student Syromyatnikov in the film “We'll Live Until Monday” immediately brought the actor wide fame.
“I filmed this film in secret, during school holidays, and the filming itself took place in Moscow, I didn’t have to leave anywhere,” the actor shared. “Of course, I had to miss classes, but I managed to overcome all the troubles associated with them.”
After the role of the poor student Syromyatnikov, Yuri began to be recognized on the streets. Quotes rushed after him: “My mother told me that it’s not good to kill a bird,” “But Russia, after Peter I, has no luck with kings,” “If you put one, you’ll get Yuri Nikulin.”
Offers to act in films rained down on the circus school student as if from a cornucopia. Director Vladimir Motyl approved Yuri for the role of Petrukha in the film “White Sun of the Desert.” But the school teachers told Chernov in unison: choose - either cinema or the circus. Yuri chose the latter and dropped out of film life for several years.
Later, such bright roles in the actor’s career never happened again. The roles he received were mostly episodic. But Yuri was so effective in these episodes that the audience remembered him even so. Like, for example, the balalaika player from the film “Ivan Vasilyevich Changes His Profession,” beloved by millions of viewers.
In general, during his career, Yuri Chernov participated in more than 120 film projects. In addition to films, the actor starred in the humorous magazines “Fitil” and “Yeralash”. In the 2000s, he began to be actively invited to TV series. Thus, he played the main roles in the television detectives “District Detectives”, “Reflection”, “Second Killer”. He starred in one of the seasons of Sklifosovsky. In 2020, viewers were able to see the actor in one of the main roles in the comedy “Woman’s Revolt, or the War in Novoselkovo.”
Black line
Chernov Yuri Nikolaevich graduated from the circus school and got a job at the Philharmonic. He was practically no longer offered interesting roles; the moment was lost. From time to time he earned money by acting in episodes.
In 1975, the half-forgotten actor finally got the main role. He embodied the image of Pyotr Prisypkin in the film “Mayakovsky Laughs.” The film turned out to be extravagant and bright, but could not attract the attention of the audience. Chernov left the Philharmonic and joined the creative team of the Theater of Miniatures. At the same time, he began studying at GITIS, enrolling in the correspondence department.
Episode King
In the second half of the 70s, Yuri Chernov began to actively act in film, and films with his participation began to be released frequently. The actor was practically not offered leading roles, but he was gladly trusted to play supporting characters and episodic characters. In the famous comedy “Balamut” he embodied the image of the orderly Zubkov, in the science fiction film “Adventures of Electronics” he played the father of the main character Syroezhkin. In the TV series “Gypsy,” Yuri took on the role of driver Nikolai, and in the fairy tale “There, on Unknown Paths...” he portrayed the clerk Chumichka.
Yuri Chernov is an actor who can often be seen in the roles of negative characters. For example, he played a criminal nicknamed Koryto in the psychological detective story “From the Life of the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department.” This hero was so beloved by the audience that for a long time they addressed Yuri Nikolaevich using the nickname of his hero.
90s
The beginning of the 90s was a difficult period for Russian cinema; many representatives of creative professions were left without work. Unfortunately, Yuri Chernov was no exception. The biography of the talented actor indicates that he practically did not act in films at this time. Yuri Nikolaevich focused on theatrical roles.
The actor worked at the Moon Theater for about five years. He was involved in the productions of “Tender is the Night” and “Little Robinson’s Dreams”. Yuri was forced to say goodbye to this theater due to his workload in entrepreneurial projects.
What films with Chernov's participation were released during this period? The actor can be seen in the films “Day of Love”, “Wilkhoman”, “Tanks Are Walking Along Taganka”, “Thunderstorm Over Russia”, “Three Hundred Years Later”, “Black Clown”, “Bonanza”, “We Have to Live Again”. He also starred in the TV series “Kings of Russian Detective” and “Silence”. Almost all roles were episodic.
People's Artists of Russia Yuri Chernov and Alexander Galibin present an unusual performance “On the Trumpet”
Maria Karpova:
Peter I, General Radlov, Rasputin - Alexey Petrenko himself was as powerful as his heroes in life. He was born on March 26, 1938.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
Director Elem Klimov could not choose an actor for the role of Rasputin for the film “Agony”; he called Wolf Messing to help. When Messing saw Petrenko, he liked him so much that he took a photo together and wrote on the back: “Alyosha, everything will be fine with you. I, Wolf Messing, are always with you in my thoughts.”

Maria Karpova:
By the way, in Moscow, Alexey Vasilyevich played in the School of Modern Play theater in the early 90s, and today our guests are just the artists of this theater.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
Alexander Galibin and Yuri Chernov - they came to talk about the unusual performance “On the Trumpet”.
Maria Karpova:
Alexander, Yuri, we are very glad to see you as our guest, hello!
Yuri Chernov:
Hello!
Alexander Galibin:
Hello!
Maxim Mitchenkov:
Have a seat.
Yuri Chernov:
Thank you.
Alexander Galibin:
Thank you.
Maria Karpova:
Yes, have a seat. Of course, first of all, we want to congratulate the theater on its return to its native walls, in general, how long have you been waiting for this and with what feelings?
Alexander Galibin:
We had 2 completely grandiose moves, even 3, it turns out: one from the burnt theater to Tishinka, where we worked for 2.5 years, then from Tishinka again this whole colossus moved to Presnensky Val, this, thank God, is not far, but this also everything is DK.
Maria Karpova:
Certainly.
Alexander Galibin:
The premises were not suitable for a theater, and then we moved from Presnensky Val to this chic, simply beautiful, new building.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
What do you feel when you enter the restored theater for the first time?
Alexander Galibin:
It felt like we had returned home.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
After a long, long journey.
Alexander Galibin:
Yes, that we returned home and the most important thing is that these walls, despite the fact that we were not there for 5 years, they simply accepted us, now we have almost 3 completely autonomous stages, they can be played simultaneously on all stages and are not dependent on each other from friend.
Yuri Chernov:
It seems like they were, but now they have come to such a wonderful position, a wonderful condition, because it is beautiful, clean, well-groomed, the main staircases are magnificent, and, in general, the hall has been transformed, but the theatrical spirit remains.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
But it’s true that during the restoration some old paintings were revealed...
Maria Karpova:
Some secret has been revealed in the building...
Maxim Mitchenkov:
And now people go
as
if on an excursion.
Alexander Galibin:
Yes it's true.
Yuri Chernov:
And they go and will go, because many say: “Oh, I really want to see, find out what happened there, and how it all changed and what’s new there?” This is the performance we are currently preparing...
Maxim Mitchenkov:
"On the pipe."
Maria Karpova:
"On the pipe", yes, yes, yes.
Yuri Chernov:
“On the pipe”, so he will just talk about what the building was like, what happened in it, who visited it, this amazing restaurant “Hermitage”.
Maria Karpova:
The performance is based on 7 legends about the theater, for example, the same Olivier supposedly invented his salad there, right?
Yuri Chernov:
Yes, Chekhov, Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky, Dostoevsky, and Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin - all these great people were in the building of our theater.
Maria Karpova:
What is the most incredible legend?
Yuri Chernov:
They're all interesting.
Alexander Galibin:
The most incredible legend and the most mystical is probably connected with the proverb “ends in the water”: when in the basements of our theater, apparently there was some kind of tavern there at one time, it was a one-story wooden building, and, in general, there was a leak in the basement Neglinka river...
Yuri Chernov:
The building was built on the Neglinka River.
Alexander Galibin:
Now she’s in the pipe and “out in the water” - if a person had to be gotten rid of, they got rid of him, tied him up, and threw him into Neglinka. “Ends in the water” - this expression came from there. On the question of what was discovered on the walls: a lot was discovered, in particular, Vrubel’s paintings were discovered, moreover, they found artifacts, found the Olivier restaurant menu, found parts, paraphernalia, forks, knives, spoons - we have all this now in Olivier restaurant museum.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
That is, you found, roughly speaking, confirmation of those myths and legends that previously reigned in the building?
Alexander Galibin:
Yes, that's absolutely right.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
So, let's get closer to the performance, tell us in more detail, we have already learned that it is based on myths and legends, but will you, in general, immerse people in some of your own atmosphere?
Alexander Galibin:
It is based on historical facts entirely and completely, it is based on documents and a huge amount of work has been done by our literary part, Ekaterina Kretova, Volodya Bachin, a huge amount of work has been done to transfer all this onto paper and texts that will be spoken during this movement, and there will be a lot of movement: there will be 175 people in the theater...
Yuri Chernov:
175.
Alexander Galibin:
175, yes. They will be divided into...
Yuri Chernov:
There will be groups of 25 people per group, and these groups will move around the theater, along all the guides, and at this time, where these groups will be, the plots that are in historical documents, which are partly myths, will take place, but to a greater extent this is documentary truth.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
And people, it turns out, looked at one story, moved to another room and looked at another.
Yuri Chernov:
Yes, the audience will not sit, they will move around the building all the time.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
Actors act out the same scene multiple times, right?
Yuri Chernov:
Yes.
Alexander Galibin:
It turns out like this.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
What roles do you play?
Maria Karpova:
Alexander, you play Chekhov, as far as we know.
Alexander Galibin:
Yes, I play.
Yuri Chernov:
By the way, I play Tolstoy. Our action will take place in this hall of the winter “Hermitage” and there will be 7 Chekhovs and 7 Tolstoys and each has its own theme: for example, I will have a conversation with Chekhov on the topic of food, we will tell what Anton Pavlovich likes, how he has breakfast, Lev Nikolaevich, that is, my hero, has lunch and dinner, I will tell you what I prefer to eat, what I refused, thanks to which my health not only worsened, but also improved.
Alexander Galibin:
In general, open historical very interesting facts that are unknown to the general public, but they are documented and these texts are not fictional, this is not some kind of political show, this is not some kind of show associated with some scandal - this is our absolutely open desire make people happy, that is, bring joy to people.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
Of course, you can see in your eyes that you are glad that you returned home to this theater.
Alexander Galibin:
It's true, yes.
Yuri Chernov:
As for me, I’m very happy.
Maria Karpova:
Certainly.
Maxim Mitchenkov:
Therefore, we once again congratulate you on your return to your home.
Yuri Chernov:
Thank you!
Alexander Galibin:
Thank you!
Maxim Mitchenkov:
And neither fluff nor feather!
Yuri Chernov:
With God blessing!
Alexander Galibin:
Thank you, God bless you!

Personal life
Of course, fans are interested not only in films and TV series in which Yuri Chernov managed to star. The personal life of a Russian film star also fascinates the public. For the first time he decided to tie the knot in marriage in his early youth. The actor married a girl who studied in a theater studio located next to his circus school. His wife gave Yuri a daughter, Anna, but the marriage soon broke up, the reasons for which remained behind the scenes.
Chernov met his second wife within the walls of GITIS; the girl was an employee of the department of foreign theater. The actor fell in love at first sight, the sympathy was mutual. Yuri has been married to Valentina for many years and is convinced that he has managed to find his other half.
The second wife gave birth to Chernov two children - Yaroslav and Maxim. The daughter followed in her father’s footsteps and connected her life with the world of dramatic art. The son chose a profession that has nothing to do with the world of cinema and theater. Yuri also communicates with his eldest daughter Anna, who gave birth to his grandson Alexei.
