Biography
Maria Semkina is a Russian film actress and model, known to television viewers for the sitcom “Daddy's Daughters,” the detective story “Inspector Cooper” and the comedy “Cream.”
The girl was born and raised in Rostov-on-Don. At birth she received the name Maria Rafailovna Iofis. Maria's family was not creative; her parents gravitated towards the exact sciences: her father taught mathematics, and her mother worked as an engineer. Nine years after Masha’s birth, a younger sister appeared.
Actress Maria Semkina
Semkina grew up as a quiet, homely girl, preferring to communicate less with her peers and spend more time in her room reading books. Until the age of 16, Maria was shy in the company of boys, because she considered herself too thin and completely uninteresting for them. The future actress compensated for her childhood complexes with excellent studies.
After school, Semkina entered the local Institute of National Economy, where she received a degree in economics. In 1998, in her last year at the university, Maria sent her photographs to the Image-Elite modeling agency competition and, to her surprise, took first place. Then the girl at other similar castings and festivals achieved the titles “Lady Charm” and “Rostov Beauty”. In this way, Maria was able to attract attention, which was the main factor in her invitation to the capital for shows at Moscow Fashion Week.
Maria Semkina
Semkina’s highest achievement in her modeling career was her collaboration with the Modus VivendiS agency.
The career of a model and fashion model developed rapidly - the catwalks of France, Germany, South Korea and Japan were conquered by Maria Semkina one after another. This was followed by erotic photo shoots for the Russian version of Playboy magazine. The Rostov beauty was named girl of the month four times, and in 2000 she became girl of the year.
In her hometown, Maria became a real heroine. The model entered into a contract with the local clothing company "Alice", after which life-size photos of Semkina appeared in all shopping malls where the factory's products were sold. For four years, billboards were displayed next to shop windows, which made Maria a recognizable face in her small homeland.
Maria Semkina in the theater
From a modeling agency, Maria stepped into the film industry. Moreover, the girl herself never thought about becoming an actress; everything happened by chance: they saw her, they invited her, it worked out. But for a long time Semkina did not allow herself to be called an artist, because she did not believe that she had enough knowledge in this area. To fill this annoying gap, Maria entered the Boris Shchukin Theater School, from which she graduated in 2011.
Attempts to act in films
Maria Semkina did not dream of becoming an actress since childhood. She decided to try her hand at the film industry already as an adult young lady. Everything turned out quite simply: a famous director noticed her, invited her to audition, liked her, she was offered a role - she agreed. Many colleagues on the set called the girl an actress, to which she reacted sharply for a long time. Because she understood that she did not have the necessary education and experience.
To somehow fix this, Maria decides to enter the Shchukin School. She received a diploma in acting education in 2011 and more confidently continued to build an acting career.
Movies
Directors often look for the type of artist not only in acting agencies, but also among models. This is exactly what happened to Maria Semkina, who was invited to play a young musician in the thriller “Loneliness of Blood.”

In 2005, Semkina appeared in the melodrama “Doomed to Become a Star,” where she appeared in the role of television journalist Svetlana Berezkina.
Maria also starred in the joint Russian-Argentine project “In the Rhythm of Tango,” where Andrei Smolyakov and Argentine star Natalia Oreiro became partners in the work of the inexperienced actress. The plot of the film revolved around a love quadrangle, which, in addition to the South American couple of lovers, included a Russian football player and his beautiful girlfriend (Valery Nikolaev and Olga Pogodina).
Maria Semkina in the series "Daddy's Daughters"
The actress's fame began to grow after the detective story "All Inclusive" and the action films "Day of Wrath" and "Antifool". In 2008, with the participation of Maria Semkina, the drama “My Husband is a Genius” was released about the fate of the Soviet scientist Lev Landau (Daniil Spivakovsky), retold from the perspective of his wife Cora (Ksenia Gromova). In the film, Maria reincarnated as Hera, the physicist’s beloved. Another heroine, Vera Sudakova, played by Polina Kutepova, also appeared in the same status.
But Semkina’s real popularity came from her role as Oksana Fedotova, the touching and at the same time glamorous wife of an oligarch in the comedy sitcom “Daddy’s Daughters.” The actress played in this series for five years in a row, and at the same time appeared in other television projects.
Maria Semkina in the film "Inspector Cooper"
In the late 2000s, the actress’s filmography was replenished with works in the youth series “Univer,” the melodrama “Marriage by Will,” and the thriller “Cheesecake.”
Together with Oleg Taktarov, Maria played in the crime film “The Guardian”, in a duet with Ekaterina Kopanova she showed a modern version of Cinderella in the melodramatic comedy “Cream”, and with Mikhail Galustyan she worked on the family fantasy “That’s Carloson!” The actress also has leading roles in the crime action film Inspector Cooper, the romantic comedy Little House in the Heart and the humorous film Kings Can Do Anything, in which Maria starred with comedian Maxim Galkin.

Film work
Often directors pay attention to models who could be made into good actresses. Our heroine was no exception. She was offered to play the role of a young girl musician in a film called “The Loneliness of Blood.” This job was not easy for her, but she tried her best to give it her all to please the director and meet his expectations.
Then the girl began to receive offers to star in small roles in many films and TV series. This helped the aspiring actress gain experience. In 2005, the girl appeared before the audience as a journalist in the film “Doomed to Become a Star,” which pleased her fans and increased their number.
Personal life
Maria Semkina got married at the age of 20. The marriage turned out to be difficult; the spouses did not become truly close to each other. Even the birth of her son Mikhail did not affect the relationship, and seven years later the actress divorced her husband, although the young people stopped living together even earlier. In the mid-2000s, the actress’s personal life improved: Maria found her soul mate and is still happy with her second husband. Maria Semkina hides the name of her chosen one from the curious. The actress mentioned in one interview that she dreams of becoming a mother again.
Maria Semkina with her son
As in childhood, Maria remains a homebody. The actress prefers the quiet comfort and peace of her own home to any fiery party. The actress never created a personal page on Instagram or other social networks. But on behalf of Maria Semkina there is a group on VKontakte.
In 2010, Semkina participated in the fifth season of the show “Dancing with the Stars”, as she had long wanted to learn how to dance beautifully. The artist’s partner was ballroom dancing professional Andrei Karpov. Maria watched all the previous seasons and was sure that she would easily learn classical moves on the dance floor, and that stories about difficulties were just for show, to raise the ratings of the artists. When I first stepped on the floor, I realized how wrong I was and that choreography is real hard work.
