Channel TheKateClapp
Two years later, Katya created a new channel on YouTube called “TheKateClapp”, which can be considered as a personal vlog. Here the author answers questions from fans, talks about himself and his interests, and shows videos from his travels. Here Katya Klap hosts the most popular column “Challenge Accepted.” In it, Kate Clapp fulfills non-standard and sometimes very strange requests from subscribers. For example, he immediately chews a pack of gum, eats lemon and chili pepper, paints his eyelashes with his eyes closed and takes on other challenges.
In the video you can find the girl’s inherent optimism, positivity, self-irony and goodwill. Her video blog turned out to be attractive to subscribers due to its high-quality, positive entertaining content. Modern music, jokes, discussion of show business news, as well as current advice on style, season trends, detailed coverage of makeup application issues, combined with the charm of an Internet presenter and her model appearance (height 171 cm, weight 53 kg) brought Katya Klap to the channel enormous fame - this can be proven by her six and a half million subscribers.
In 2020, Katya Klap began producing her own “Beauty Boxes” - originally designed “beauty boxes”, which contain a basic set of cosmetics inside. Katya advertised the set, compiled to her taste, from the pages of her video blog. The first box included a sample of Clean perfume, eyebrow gel, black nail polish and soft pink lip gloss. The second set consisted of perfume, foundation, nail care mask and eye patches. Katya is one of the most prominent and influential beauty bloggers in the country.
Katya Klap: “I’m a girl with brains, but they’re trying to bend even me”
Katya Klap became the first Russian video blogger to collaborate with the MAC brand. We met and talked with Katya about what it’s like to release your own lipstick, what she doesn’t like about makeup, and why she prefers to wear her own makeup for important occasions. By the way, you can buy lipstick in the L'Etoile online store.
You were the first in Russia to make your product with MAC. Tell me how this actually happened?
We've known MAC since '15. My dream lipstick at one time was MAC. I spent my first salary from YouTube on it. From the second I bought another one. They are still in my collection - I cherish them and cherish them. How did it happen that I got the opportunity to make my own lipstick? I don’t understand myself! They explain to me that it was logical: we like each other, and I really love cosmetics. I have lips, like all women, and I often experiment with looks. This probably somehow intersects with the brand’s visuals. MAC is the first brand to bring men's makeup, drag queen, and runway makeup into everyday life. The people who worked at MAC were Internet stars in the 2000s—half punk, half emo. This inspired me a lot. Of course, there was a long discussion - verification, probably, because this is an important step for the brand: the Russian office was given the opportunity to make lipstick with a local influencer for the first time.
And why lipstick?
I think this is the most popular story for MAC. The best-selling product, the most “fun”. Lipsticks are what I buy most often - I think others do too. Shadows are like that. Palettes get boring and forgotten, but lipstick always lasts and makes me happy. If it doesn’t go for this season, then for the next one, yes. I also love blush. But I get used to one shade and only use it. And I have a lot of lipsticks. Well, then, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande - not to mention RuPaul and other figures of art and TV - had their own lipsticks.
How did the work on the lipstick go and what exactly did you do?
I went to the MAC factory in Canada. I prepared a moodboard with photographs in advance. And I was with the technologists when they mixed the shade. I ran from the building to the street to check if my lipstick changed color depending on the lighting. In general, I accompanied the process from start to finish. I wanted to make the perfect product - in my opinion.
How would you describe your lipstick? What is it, for whom?
This lipstick is the starting point of creativity. It can be used for any makeup. Apply to lips, cheeks, eyes. For the last six months since I made it, I've been adding this lipstick everywhere. There wasn't a single image where she didn't fit. It can be applied lightly or thickly. You can apply it over a pencil of any color - with dark pencils it will emphasize the lips and add plumpness.
I thought for a long time about what color to choose. Everyone either turns yellow or needs to choose a certain color for their clothes, and I’m glad that mine turned out to be universal. This lipstick is sexy and at the same time so flirty. And let me be a narcissistic egoist, but it is dedicated to me, and with it I can bring to life all the images that I would like.
What other MAC products are in your makeup bag?
I can't imagine myself without MAC tone-related products, and I'm 100% confident in them. With other products it happens: in the heat it’s one thing, in the cold it’s completely different, or it clogs the pores, but this doesn’t happen with MAS. And when you combine them with other brands, all hell breaks loose on your face. For example, I bought a concealer: it seemed good, but suddenly I bought powder from a different brand, and that’s it - it dries out in chunks, flaking is visible. You think: “What the hell?..” You start to focus on the powder, but it’s not it.
I also have a lot of blush. Probably the second largest collection after lipsticks. One day my mother told me: “Katya, buy yourself some blush, it’s cool.” And she gave me her MACs. I like it. I even had beauty therapy when I had a tough year—2013, I think. My best friend and I would stop by the MAC store every time we went for a walk. And I always chose at least one blush for myself. I still have them in my makeup bag - they all have a hole in the center, used. Blush is an underrated product, really.
When I made the lipstick, I said: “I want it to be able to be applied to both lips and cheeks. Spread it on, wipe it off in a taxi, and you’re ready.” So I made lipstick, but guys, it's also blush!
Would you like to launch your own beauty brand like Kylie Jenner?
It's very hard. Even in large individual projects with brands, you have to approach the product from a business point of view, and this kills creativity. I’m a girl with brains, but they even try to bend me, deceive me, blackmail me. When I “get mature”, when I don’t care about all the big-toothed moneybags and businessmen, I will probably say myself: “So, they shut their mouths. I create, and you only do.” What I do on the Internet is intangible, so I want everything material associated with me to be worthwhile. So - who knows - maybe one day yes.
Let’s imagine that in theory it is possible to work with any brand. Who would you like to go with and why?
About two years ago I dreamed of working with Fendi, but they fell into nowhere - they went off the hype. And so... I’m even scared to say. It seems like I've worked with everyone I wanted to. Well, and, probably, with magazines. It's cool. Recently I went into the store and saw the All Stars magazine. I thought it would be cool not even to be on the cover, but on the poster. As a child, all my rooms were covered with them. Or Bravo magazine. These are the thoughts. Very sentimental, a little crazy and nostalgic.
How often do you wear your own makeup for festivals and red carpets?
In 99.9% of cases. Firstly, I don’t have enough time to go somewhere three hours before the event. I'd rather do the base at home at the last moment, and draw the eyes and lips in a taxi. Secondly, I began to have a different attitude towards roughness and problems in makeup. I believe that it should not look like it was drawn in Photoshop. In salons, especially male masters, they like to paint my face too much: eyebrows on half the face, big eyes, winged wings, cheekbones, lips (yes, that’s right). As a result, I turn out to be a kind of vamp woman - I would also like a mouthpiece, feathers and sing with an operatic voice. I tell the masters: “I understand that you like my big lips and eyes, but please don’t. Make me arrows, lips to match mine, eyebrows, eyelashes.” But no - they really like to plaster me. The fact that I do my own makeup protects me from using too much makeup. Fixing it is much harder than doing it well in the first place.
What else don’t you like that makeup artists do?
Bright lipstick with a clear contour. It annoys me. This feature looks very dated on my face. I love something half-Korean, smeared. The arrows, yes, can be perfectly aligned, but the lips... Okay, bright, let there be glitter. But when they draw the corners - oh, I can’t. I just don't recognize myself in the mirror. “Hello, here is Aunt Katya.”

Biography[ | ]
Childhood and adolescence[ | ]
Katya was born on May 19, 1993 in Moscow. She grew up there and currently lives there. She graduated from secondary school No. 1122. Later she entered the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) to study as a director, but in her first year she withdrew her documents because she realized that this did not interest her.
Creativity[ | ]
She began her activities in 2008 under the pseudonym Kate Clapp.
on his first YouTube channel
FoggyDisaster
. The format of the channel was sketches and parodies. In three years, she gained about 250 thousand subscribers and more than 33 million views.
Currently only publishes videos on her vlog channel called TheKateClapp
with an audience of 6 million people (February 2018). She is the most popular female video blogger in the Russian YouTube segment[9].
What is Katya Konasova doing now?
She is actively developing her channel, most often posting not laudatory, but revealing stories. She does not have the goal of denigrating everyone and presenting them as deceivers - it’s just that too often dubious promotions are carried out on the Internet, or worthless products are advertised. Ekaterina’s video about “winning” surveys caused a lot of noise - when famous bloggers enthusiastically campaign to answer simple questions, and then promise to receive a large sum on the card.
Her interview with an anonymous employee on a well-known “recommendation” site became a sensation: the girl, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed all the unpleasant ins and outs of the resource, telling Ekaterina many shocking details on camera. True, the “recommendation” resource did not remain in debt to the blogger - the site did not hesitate to publish several frankly ordered evil reviews about her.

The apogee of Katya’s activity on her channel was a fight (there’s no other way to call it) with the cosmetic brand “FEM Fatal”: the company widely advertised a “magic” cream that supposedly saved from pimples. Ekaterina conducted an investigation and, with the help of professional experts, established: the cream contains a cheap antibiotic and other nasty things, and is not at all useful, and even harmful. Not stopping at the exposure, Katya sued the company (she bought the cream to submit it for examination) and won the case for compensation for moral and material damage. True, a company representative said that a counterclaim would be filed (this was announced in early October), but so far no one has done this.
