When Sergei received approval from both educational institutions, he gave preference to the Shchepkinsky School, but failed further exams miserably. In the meantime, he was noticed by the chairmen of the commission from the Institute of Culture, where he was accepted without entrance tests.
After several semesters of study, Ginzburg realizes that he is not enjoying what is happening, and he decides to leave the university. In his opinion, work and any activity should bring joy and pleasure to a person, which he could not say about being a student at the Institute of Culture.
Work in the theater
Then fate brought Sergei to the Taganka Theater, but not as an actor. There, at the time he was looking for work, there was a vacancy for an assembler. It was this position that Ginzburg held for several years. While working there, Sergei met many celebrities. Among them were Anatoly Efros, Georgy Burkov and Anatoly Vasiliev.
The guy understood that his decision to leave the institute was correct. After all, useful acquaintances and such an environment will be more useful to him in the future than listening to lectures on higher mathematics.
While working as an assembler, Sergei was offered small part-time jobs as a director at the theater at Moscow State University. At that time, Ginzburg had financial problems, and he took on any job. He did not despair and believed that everything would get better soon!
After some time, our hero refused to work as an assembler and decided to get an acting education. So he became a student at GITIS. However, a few months later he received an invitation to work at the Kiselev Theater and left the university again. Sergei never received a higher education diploma.

– Is Odessa-mother resting?
“My father is Odessa, and my mother is Russian, the chief accountant in the regional court,” Gennady Borisovich laughs. – Dad is a builder with two higher educations, an engineer. And I was born in 1934 in Saratov! – he says somehow enthusiastically. – Saratov Conservatory? – I happily pick up.
- If! – the maestro reacts instantly. – Do you know where I got to? To Vladimir, to the combined arms military school (Gennady Borisovich laughs infectiously, as if he himself is surprised at this choice). After demobilization, he had the rank of elder and went to the seventh school in Ryazan to teach physical education and basic military training (CMT). How do you like this arrangement? Funny? Very! And first I entered Moscow – into the historical and archival department, and received a “C”, although I should not have received it. I think that the fifth point played such a joke on me. Oh well, that means I didn’t need to go there.
– Is it necessary to join the military?
- No need either. Therefore, our branch of the military was quickly abolished, and I found myself in the world. What to do? Exercise until retirement? Across the road from the seventh school, in the Saltykov-Shchedrin House, there was a Ryazmus school, where former Bolshoi Theater soloist V.D. Naumov taught vocals. I began to study, and in 1967 I entered the Moscow Institute of Culture in the conducting and choral department.
– How did you end up in Ryazan?
– My father was transferred for work in 1938. He studied at school number ten, sang in the House of Pioneers - a building in the city park - Folk Art Center. We often performed in hospitals, these were my first stage venues. And the last performance was on the stage of the music school together with the children's choir and the RMU symphony orchestra. Some kind of communist concert, with which, as I now understand, we said goodbye to that era.
- You were working...
“I worked... everywhere,” Gennady Borisovich picks up the question. – More than fifty years at RSU named after. Yesenina. At first I was invited by Infak, my classes were in the educational grid, we learned songs in languages. And two years later amateur competitions began. Interfaculty. And they started calling me everywhere. An all-institute choir appeared, which performed at competitions and constantly won something somewhere. There was a good choir. Full of certificates and diplomas on this topic. Then I was invited by the agricultural college for the same thing. And at interuniversity competitions I worked against myself, because both choirs were mine.
-Who did you love more?
- Music! The teachers had classics that I adore. With the agricultural workers, they pressed on folk singing, on Soviet patriotism, because the students did not have classical sound production, but they loved to sing, and I had to work with the natural vocal material that was available; there was no time left for voice training.
– A story has been passed down from the last century about how you were declared... Riesling. - It’s not a story, it happened like that. The institute's report concert, the choir opens, some party song should be performed. The hall is full of people: party committee, local committee, somersault…. Sashka Osipov comes out and in a well-placed voice into the microphone, with all the pauses, solemnly announces “... the artistic director and chief conductor of the choir is Gennady Borisovich... Riesling.” Pause. The choir is standing. The hall is not breathing. I go out and feel the silence behind me. Then such jokes could not have happened on stage. Sashka got it. Someone still thinks that he was not mistaken, but laughed. Okay, but everyone remembers it. I'm not offended
In addition to working in two serious universities, one can add part-time work in twenty secondary schools (approximate figure), although in some of them Gennady Borisovich was on the staff. In those days they sang a lot, and factories tried to get a famous choir singer. He worked for more than fifteen years at Teplopribor, and a little less at Ryaztsvetmet. From 1970 to this day, Ginzburg has been working at Children's Music School No. 5 named after V.F. Bobylev.
– They invited me to raise the choir. And in 1972, we already performed with the Moscow City Choir and the Yaroslavl Symphony Orchestra, performing Kabalevsky’s “Requiem”. It was a sensation. Then on Victory Day we joined the combined choir of Children's Music School No. 5 and the Russian State University named after. Yesenin was sung on Victory Square. It was a grand event! – recalls Gennady Borisovich. “Girls and boys, as well as their parents” remember and love GenBorisych to this day. How can you not love and remember him if there was so much joy in his classes?!
He has so many laureates and diploma recipients of different levels that there is not enough space to list them all. I remember Pavel Bakhmutov, Alexey Rakin - the director of the chamber choir at the Philharmonic, Natasha Gulina, who was called Lyudmila Zykina of that time. More than fifty of his students continued their music studies.
I ask Gennady Borisovich to remember the important awards that he received during his service to art.
“Oh..,” Ginzburg thinks. – You don’t even need to waste time on this! Tons of certificates and diplomas, tons! Which ones are important and which ones aren't? Everything agreed on one thing - Honored Worker of Culture of Russia (1995). It's enough.
There is no square in Ryazan that can accommodate a combined choir of former and current students of Ginzburg.
Who is Ginsburg? Ginsburg is the Planet. He is a kind person who still infects us with his enthusiasm. At the rehearsals, which were conducted by an enthusiastic person with the accented surname Ginzburg, parents led their children in any weather. He allowed relatives to attend the classes, turning them into a real concert and family event. Everyone loves him, because he brings unbridled joy and continuous benefit. And it seems that all he needs is for everyone around him to feel good, because then he, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, choral conductor Gennady Borisovich Ginzburg, will be happy. And may this happiness last longer and longer!

Ginsburg's career

The troupe was offered a contract in Canada for six months, and the team left the theater. Sergei himself was not ready for such a turn of events and decided to stay in Russia.

Together with old acquaintances Kortnev and Ugolnikov, our hero hosted a humorous program called “Both-on!” They also tried to shoot their own commercials, films and direct the works of famous screenwriters.
The actor's film debut took place in 1993. He starred in the film "Road to Heaven." Despite the fact that Sergei received a small role, he was noticed. However, the audience liked his work as a director more.
