Monroe Jackson Rathbone V

(English: Monroe Jackson Rathbone V; born December 14, 1984 (1984-12-14)) is an American actor and member of the musical group “100 Monkeys”. He is best known for playing the role of Jasper Hale (Whitlock) in the film adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight novels.

Childhood and youth

Monroe Jackson Rathbone was born in Singapore on December 14, 1984. They named him according to tradition - the boy became the 5th Jackson in the family, and his parents called him Jay (short for his middle name). Because of their father's work, they had to constantly move: the Rathbones left Singapore for London, then lived in Indonesia, and upon returning home, settled in Midland, Texas.

Little Jay liked this constant change of environment: it gave him a lot of impressions and new friends. The boy went to the Interlochen Academy of Arts and was interested in the stage. As a child, Jackson played his first role in the musical “Grease,” mastering the guitar specifically for this, and his love of music remained with him for a long time - he carried the instrument with him and called it by its female name, Annabelle.

Rathbone's other passion was sports. His father taught him the basics of boxing, then he went to football training, was interested in athletics and baseball, but when Jackson was faced with a choice - an acting career or a sports career, he, without hesitation, chose the first.

Studying in high school was not easy for him. Jay teamed up with a group of teenage rebels called the Lost Boys and became a desperate hooligan. Now it’s difficult for the actor himself to understand what made him behave this way. As a reminder of those years, he still has a tattoo on his lower abdomen in the form of the inscription “I’m lost...”.

After graduating from school, Rathbone did not want to continue his education and left for Los Angeles in search of roles. There he was invited to the TV show “Nice People”, but the series did not even reach the end of the 1st season due to lack of funding. The attractive young man, however, was noticed by the producers, and soon he starred in other programs - “War in the House”, “Lonely Hearts”.

Childhood

As a child, Jackson practically did not see his own father.
Because of his work, dad was forced to constantly travel. The truth is that he doesn’t hold any childish grudges against him for this at all. On the contrary, the young man confesses his love of wanderlust. And this is confirmed by the fact that the actor changed his place of residence many times. He has lived in different countries and states, from the Texas Midlands to Indonesia, Britain and Norway. As a result, the actor settled in the Midlands. Jackson began building his career in Texas. The young man went to work at the Midland theater. There he was involved in a musical production for young people, “Pickwick Players.” Rathbone easily alternated creative activities with sports. He played soccer, baseball, football and basketball.

And at the same time, the active young man began to engage in mobile DJing. True, it became too much for Jackson to combine so many activities every day, and he decided to focus on what he felt most passionate about. Rathbone chose music and acting.

Actor and musician

In high school, Jackson became interested in theater. The boy went to the prestigious Interlochen Academy of the Arts, a private school in Michigan, and there he studied acting basics in the theater department. The young actor earned special respect from teachers and fellow students for his work in Shakespeare’s plays. And after his first year in high school, Jackson got the role of Ferdinand in the production of “The Tempest” at the Southwest Shakespeare Festival.

Movies

Rathbone made his film debut in 2007. It was the comedy Big Stan, and on the set he played with Rob Schneider. A year later, he was offered the role of Jasper Hale in Twilight - the most famous of his career so far.

Jackson Rathbone in the movie "Twilight"

The film became incredibly successful: its box office exceeded its budget 10 times, the creators received 5 MTV awards, and the actors received worldwide fame. Jackson's character was fully revealed only by the 3rd film - from an episodic character he became a brave warrior and made a great contribution to the victory of the “good” vampires over their enemies. Rathbone is right-handed, but for the scene on the baseball field he had to learn to handle the ball with his left hand. The film adaptation of the last part of the saga took place in 2012.

Jackson Rathbone in The Last Airbender

After this, there were no significant roles in the actor’s filmography. M. Night Shyamalan's film The Last Airbender with Rathbone, released in July 2010, turned out to be a complete failure and received 5 nominations for the Golden Raspberry anti-award, including for Worst Film of the Year.

In 2008, Jackson, who had not forgotten about music all this time, created his own group 100 Monkeys, creating funk rock music. In it he performed vocal parts, played guitar and harmonica. In total, the guys released 5 full-length albums and 7 singles, but after 4 years they announced the closure of the project.

Jackson Rathbone in The Last Ship

2011 was marked for the actor with roles in the films “Big Plans” and “Truck Stop”, and 2013 – in the first episode of “White Collar”, where Jackson played a member of a criminal duo, followed by a company of experienced detectives.

In 2017, the star of the Twilight franchise appeared in episode 4 of The Last Ship, where he played a Greek-American playboy named Giorgio, who is trying to turn the Mediterranean Sea into a testing ground for his own ambitions.

If anyone knows anything about Jackson's personal life, let's share! =)))

Jackson Rathbone talks women, cheating and how to get a second date! Jackson Rathbone is a triple threat. An amazing actor, singer and writer. Women can only guess what he looks for in girls. Some might think that in order for Jackson to give a girl a second look, she would have to be deadly irresistible. Wrong. Jackson will talk about what attracts him to girls, give him dating tips, and tell you what you need to do to get a second date with him! What qualities attract you in girls? Jackson: I'm looking for a girl with a sincere smile and a love of art. I like to go on crazy dates, like breaking into the zoo late at night. So the girl must have a sense of adventure. But I will also be looking forward to spending quiet evenings on the beach, with a fire, whiskey and friends. So a girl should be able to hang out in any company and not get clingy if I want to play the guitar, spend time with friends or family. What do you think men notice first about girls? Jackson: The way she presents herself. Many times my friends and I noticed that a pretty girl looks disgusting because of her behavior. It's off-putting. Life is too short. What does a perfect date look like? Jackson: Since I live with my band 100 Monkeys (100monkeysmusic.com), I like to take the girls out to dinner alone, walk around, chat, and then go back to the Monkey House to see if she can find language with my guys from the group. If she's cool enough to support our jam session, impress my friends, or at least won't be offended when I pick up the guitar... then I know there'll be a second date. What could be a stumbling block? Jackson: If the girl has another boyfriend. I don’t believe in the ideology: “If he’s from another city, it doesn’t count.” This is just idiotic. I've had girls hit on me many times with wedding rings and, frankly, it's disgusting. Even if a girl has a boyfriend with whom she is on the verge of breaking up... this is wrong. I won't even flirt with a woman if she's not available. What attracts you most in girls? Jackson: Everything. I'm a lover, not a fighter. I don’t single out any particular features, I love everything in general. What is more important – personality or appearance? Jackson: For me, it’s more important how a woman behaves, walks, talks, than what she’s wearing and how she’s made up. If a girl is gorgeous and shows off, I won’t be attracted to her. I find these people too ostentatious and superficial. One of our first singles is called “Ugly Girl”. This song is about a girl who sacrifices her personality for her looks. It seems to me that this will make any girl ugly. What's sexier - a girl in a little black dress with heels or trousers and a top? Jackson: Depends on the time of day and location. What do you think is the most important part of a relationship? Jackson: Loyalty, honesty and healthy sex appeal. It seems to me that in any relationship that “works” there is a share of raw instinct, as if the “pheromone cupid” shoots, so to speak. From that moment on, the main thing is to keep the relationship honest and committed. It takes two to dance tango, doesn't it? What's the worst dating advice you've ever followed? Jackson: "Tell her what she wants to hear." I forgot who said that, but it's complete bullshit! Trying to be who she wants you to be is a terrible idea. I'm trying to find a girl with whom I can be myself, and who will be herself with me. I hate it when relationships change people, but it happens... sometimes these changes are for the better, sometimes for the worse, but when two people fall in love and remain themselves, that is true love. Well, that's my humble opinion. What catches your attention first? Jackson: Her eyes and smile. Do you have any special self-care routines in the morning? Well, are there special products for the face and hair? Jackson: Haha. No. Soap and water. Well, I also brush my teeth with toothpaste, use deodorant and sometimes shave. Do you prefer girls with or without makeup? Jackson: I like naturalness for the most part. But it also happened that I fell for the rock 'n' roll look. But sometimes girls go overboard with makeup, and it can be difficult to predict what she will look like in the morning. I think it’s important when girls wear the makeup they feel most comfortable wearing, and not the other way around. The main thing is that the girl determines the amount of makeup, not the girl's makeup. Blondes or brunettes? -You forgot the redheads. Tall or small? - Such that it fits. Favorite eye color? – I don’t care, the main thing is that your eyes smile. Is your hair long or short? - Doesn't matter. I have met girls whose hair was shorter than mine, and those whose curls were so long that they would have been enough to lasso up to the moon. Gabriel: Thanks, Jackson! Jackson: Thank you, Gabriel.

Personal life

According to Jackson, he first fell in love at the age of 13 - his first kiss happened at the cinema while watching the famous “Titanic”.

On the set of Twilight, he became close to his partner Ashley Greene. In the story, they played lovers, and the media said that the feelings were not only on-screen. They were seen together in public several times, and in an interview Rathbone called her his queen, but the girl then refused to comment on the relationship.

In 2011, Rathbone met Sheila Hafsadi at his band's concert. The young people began a whirlwind romance. In July 2012, his girlfriend gave birth to his son, who was named Monroe Jackson Rathbone VI. According to rumors, it was because of family troubles that the actor decided to complete the musical part of his creative biography.

Soon the couple had a quiet wedding among close relatives and friends. After 3 years, another child appeared in the family - a daughter, who received the name Presley Bowie in honor of Rathbone’s favorite musicians.

Jackson is a fan of tattoo art. He has several tattoos on his body, but he has not yet achieved his main dream - a family coat of arms all over his back. As a teenager, Rathbone wore an earring and later had his tongue pierced, but now does not wear a piercing.

The actor has suffered from arachnophobia (fear of spiders) since childhood. Jackson is also colorblind, but claims that this does not interfere with him at all either in life or in his career.

The height of the famous “vampire” is 178 cm, weight – 68 kg.

Childhood of the future actor

His full name is Monroe Jackson Rathbone V. The future actor was born on December 14, 1984 in Singapore. The work of the father of the family was associated with frequent moves, so as a child Jackson managed to live in different cities and countries. The student developed an interest in acting quite early - the boy enjoyed going to classes at an art school and learning the basics of the acting profession. Sports were no less interesting for Jackson. Having matured a little, the young man took up baseball professionally, while still managing to attend football and basketball training.

After graduating from school, the guy planned to become a student at the Royal Scottish Academy, but these plans never came true. Having received his high school diploma, Jackson decided to immediately go to Los Angeles and begin his professional acting career.

Jackson Rathbone now

We recently had the great opportunity to interview Jackson.
We took questions from fans and then selected the most interesting ones. At the end of the interview, Jackson Rathbone himself answered them! Online Questions for Jackson Rathbone
'Twilight' is ending, what will it be like for you?

There won't be any time at all. But I like it. Between filming and music classes, I sleep and eat. We constantly read that you often move from place to place; where is your favorite place to live and why?

Midland, Texas. Good people. Plus, I love Texas.

When you were young, you lived in different countries. Do you speak other languages?

Alas, no. I can count to ten in Norwegian and have a fairly good command of Spanish. If you speak slowly and forgive my pronunciation.

What role was the most difficult for you to get into?

Nicolas Fisk in the series "Nice People". This is my first leading male role. I have only portrayed characters in the theater, and never played a romantic man. And I never wanted to. I find it much more fun to play minor characters.

As an actor, is there anything you haven't done in film? (Example: nudity, extremely racist dialogue, etc.)

I turn down roles where I find moral judgment... but in the same vein, I must admit that I love playing morally judgmental characters. As long as it's tasteful and intelligent and my family promises never to see it, I might do a nude photo... Maybe.

You have worked with a lot of young and wonderful actors. Which of them is the most pleasant to work with?

My very first film, I got to work with Udo Kier, a famous German actor. He understood down to the subtleties how to act in films with me. One of the most important: learn from everything around you. Being on set is like being in film school.

If you didn't have the chance to become an actor, what would you become?

My parents asked me over and over again what I would be if my career as an actor lost steam. I said rock star.

Who do you respect? Or who is your hero?

My awesome friend from Texas, Dave. I respect him. My hero is undoubtedly my father. He taught me everything that was good about me, and he still likes everything that was bad about me.

We read that you are a fan of Mr. Bob Dylan, what is your favorite song of his? What about Man Man; Which of their songs are you absolutely delighted with?

“Man In Me” – Bob Dylan “Doo Right” from the new album Man Man. Beautiful song. But they hooked me “10lb. Mustache."

One day, late at night, you received a call from a “bully” - one of your Twilight co-stars, Edi Gathegi. Have you had any other funny stories on the set of any of your other projects?

In the film "Pain"; I was covered in sticky blood, which froze in my hairy legs. Costume designer Michelle, bless her, helped me by trying to cut it off, but we ended up having to go with the Band-Aid method.

Orlando Bloom got a tattoo when he was 16, your co-star Nikki Reed got a ton of piercings when she was younger; Have you ever wanted to rebel and get yourself a piercing or tattoo? Or did your parents not approve of this?

My friend Spence pierced my ear with an apple needle when I was 16. It was my first offense. At 18 I pierced my tongue and got a tattoo. Now I have no piercings at all, just one tattoo.

We're wondering... a lot of fans are wondering, do you have a middle name?

Jackson is my middle name.

Speaking of names, are you related in any way to actor Basil Rathbone? It turned out that this is one of the many questions that people want to know the answer to.

I honestly don't know for sure, but let's just say yes.

Besides Annabelle (your guitar), do you have any pets?

I have a cat named Dean. He's fat and happy and sleeps on my face.

What was the first song you learned on Annabelle?

Actually, I think this is the first song I wrote. It's called "Little Girl".

"Little girl in a hula skirt, she wants to dance what her mama learned, Her dances wake up the morning light, She dances with the moon and he stays out all night, Little girl, she's gonna dance the world."

What inspired you to start playing guitar?

Musical "Grease". I played the role of "Dudi" and had to play guitar for the role. As soon as we met, I fell in love with the guitar. Love from the first song.

We read that you used to do some mik nights; Do you have any unforgettable impressions from the shows you played in?

I played in a group called The Family Band. During the show, I would tap my guitar on the stand during a break and then try to cover it up with a bridge. I don't know if it worked. It was awkward. I still shudder at this memory. If you could give some life advice, what would it be?

Love thy neighbour.

And finally, do you have any upcoming projects that your fans should see other than Twilight?

Three films: “Daze”, “Samantha D.” and "Fear". Starred on The Cleaner episode "Back To One" this September. Also, the first official EPs from our band 100Monkeys. I like to stay busy.

1. Spencer Bell. – Incredible songs and compositions. Sometimes songs are like stories or laments, or hymns, or dances. In his song "Tourist" he introduces himself. 2. Robert Johnson. – I must admit, I believe in the legend. 3. Lou Reed. – But only with The Velvet Underground. 4. The Kinks. – I can’t find a single song of theirs that I don’t like. 5. Tom Waits. – It changed when I started listening to music and playing. I started rattling dishes and stomping on drawers while listening to “Bone Machine.” 6. Man Man. “I just like saying their name three times faster.” Plus, their show has to be the best I've ever seen. 7. David Bowie. – He has a very weak voice. 8. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. “I don’t really care about the other two guys, otherwise I would have said “The Rat Pack.” These three taught me stage presence. 9. TV On the Radio. “I love what they can do and what others can’t do.” 10. The Stevedores. – They only have one album, but it’s beautiful. Damn good. I mutter too much.

And finally, Gracie wants to know your views on life.

Karma, but I don’t mean that I expect only good things from my good deeds, but that I am prepared for the inevitable low points in my life. Good and Bad exist on the same plane. “Stop and know” because even in the darkest of times, light will find you.

Second part

The last time we talked to you, you only had one tattoo. Fast forward a few years, and now, according to a recent interview with Saturday Night Magazine, you have six. Do you have any new tattoos and what do they mean to you?

In fact, there are now seven... They all mean a lot to me, but I don't know how fully I would like to describe them... A heart for my mom, a hammer for my dad, tattoos for the late great Spencer Bell, and also two for my late grandparents, my first tattoo “I’m lost”, and my new one – my family’s motto “soft but firm” (“suaviter et fortiter”).

With two of your films releasing in the same week, how do you feel finishing two films aimed at two completely different fan bases?

This is a sign of how I want to take my career. Keep it moving, changing, it always makes you fresh for the audience.

How did it feel to take your first step in Sokka's shoes?

It was damn comfortable. Looks like leather slippers.

At Newcon you revealed the “secret” that you originally auditioned for the role of Zuko for The Last Airbender. Are you glad you were cast as Sokka instead?

I think Dev plays an amazing Zuko and I had a lot of fun with Sokka's character. I was excited to get the opportunity to delve deeper into building Sokka as a warrior and strategist... that is, if we get the green light for the next two films. Hope!

After Twilight, you always talked about wanting to create a Jasper story for To Die, and your character Stephen Grace has some pretty shocking and gruesome death scenes. How did this affect the filming?

Amazingly fun. There was an ax sticking out of me, for God's sake! Damn hysterical. Funny crushed bones.

Of all the characters you've played on TV or in films, which one do you like the most?

The same thing I haven't played yet. The one thing you can't leave home without?

Trousers. Well, legally...

Over 300 questions were submitted by your fans and only a few were chosen! Here they are!

From Jenny: I heard that you don't like sweets, what kind of food do you like?

Beef jerky. Everything is spicy.

From Emily: What is your favorite Johnny Depp movie, and if you wanted to play any of his roles, what would it be and why?

Possibly Ed Wood. This is one of the many underrated Tim Burton/Johnny Depp films, and I think the characters are so impressively driven by the passions of what he does and how he develops over the course of the film. This would be interesting to implement.

From Jodie: You were born at the intersection of two signs - Sagittarius and Capricorn, which sign do you see more in yourself or which one are you more inclined to?

I don't pay much attention to signs. Well, except for the stop signs.

From Jillian: What's Dean's story? When and how did you find him? And how old is this baby?

This is a Canadian cat, he was taken from Canada and adopted by southerners, now he prefers American bacon. Like Wolverine, he remembers little of his past... He's five..?

From Brenda: With your aspirations to be a director, what kind of stories would you like to tell?

A story about a search. I like the quote: “the path is the goal.” Also, the idea of continuous natural and professional development in a kind of spiritual union, throughout the most extreme moments of our lives. And I like comedies.

From Tierney: If you had the choice to never pick up a script again or never touch a musical instrument (including singing) again, what would you do?

I would probably become a carpenter. I like to build. From Nikki: What is your favorite childhood memory?

When I was nine, I pulled a bicycle out of a lake in Houston, and my dad and I fixed it up so I could ride it. They painted it a dark, blood red color... The whole process took two weeks. It was a building experience.

From Anonymous: I think that eternity exists in the memory of those who are "done with great adventures", you often talk about your friend Spencer Bell, what is your fondest memory of Spencer Bell and how did he influence your life?

Spencer and I used to trade music back and forth whenever I was in LA and he was in New York. We sent each other songs by e-mail or did little experiments when we saw each other in person. He is a musical inspiration, both in lyrics and music. In addition, also as a bandmate and as a friend.

From Susie D: Since you yourself shared with us all the loss of your friend Spencer Bell, and you (and the band) did so much to see his musical legacy live on - what would you like your legacy to be?

Said by Keith Richards, "He Passed It On" engraved on my gravestone.

From Jens: In the last interview you mentioned that you will soon become an uncle, how do you feel about being an uncle? And now Uncle Larry is jealous that he has to share this title?

Now there are two uncles in 100 Monkeys! This is an amazing feeling of pride and constant excitement. Mr. Abrams is no longer Monkey's only uncle... but now we have a joint club. It's exclusive. You must be an uncle. The other guys are jealous.

From Maddie Bridget: I'm a huge fan of crime novels and you seem like a guy who has a sense of mystery about him; my question is whether, God forbid, you were going to be “put to death” like a famous literary, cinematic or “true” detective, alive or dead; Would you like to unravel the circumstances of your death?

I would love to have Basil Rathbone from Sherlock Holmes on this case.

From TRS: Someone invents a device the size of a cigarette. You take one end into your mouth and someone else does the same, and you both can read each other's thoughts and memories as if they were your own. Would you take advantage of this? With whom?

Nope. Getting to know someone slowly but surely is fun. Confusion in love, awkward moments and fleeting questioning glances. From Dominique: What do you most want to do before you die?

Create.

From LS: If you were creating a “Soundtrack” for your life up to this point, what music/songs, etc. (about ten) would be on it?

Born To Be Wild – Steppenwolf Thou Shalt Always Kill – Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip Get Off Of My Cloud – the Rolling Stone Something is Not Right With Me – Cold War Kids Wonderlust King – Gogol Bordello Whatever Happened To My Rock 'N Roll – BRMC Where Is My Mind? – the Pixies Southern Can Mama – Blind Willie McTell Things Go Up – Seasick Steve Not Everybody Likes Us – Hank Williams III

From Heather: Since you come from Texas, and Texas is a rural area, do you know what cow tipping is and have you ever done it?

I know about it. Although, to be honest, I have never done this. From Natalie: Who is your favorite literary character and why?

Spades from the book The Power of One, by Bryce Courtenay**. But not from the movie version.

From Hope Leyba: If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take one instrument with you, what would you take and why?

I would take guitar-drums-bass-keyboards-lele. It's like a ukulele (translator's note - you can see it here)

, but with guitar and bass and keys.

From the Girl_Writer: I know that you love to take photographs and I, as an amateur photographer, would like to know whether you prefer a 35mm or a digital camera**** and what is your favorite camera? And, if it's not too cheeky, what's your favorite photo you've taken?

35mm, definitely. The problem with digital is that it takes you out of the moment and takes on the possible symbiotic nature of artist and instrument. The simple act of allowing immediate capture of the moment by checking the picture (as in digital) negates the origin of making a photograph to capture and preserve the moment, so as not to stop the moment.

From Lee: Kind of off topic and hopefully not too personal, but which of the five senses do you like best and why?

Actually, I'm still looking for my sixth sense.

From Ellie: Thirst*** is one of the seven deadly sins, which one would you like?

Hmm... Lust for life? Insatiable love? Family pride? I think I've fallen victim to all of them to one degree or another. I would like at least one of the seven Virtues.

Thank you very much to Jackson (and his management) for this interview from all his fans!
Thank you all very much! Notes: * cow tipping (cow - cow; tipping - tipping) is an American joke. The point is to tip the cow on its side. It is considered difficult or almost impossible to do, so they have fun trying to do it. There are instructions with a detailed description: how, with what force and where to push the cow. And statistics: how many people tried, how many succeeded. As a result, they come to the conclusion that one person cannot do this, but two can. **Bruce Courtenay's "The Power of Unity" and the film is "The Power of Individuality." *** This refers to the “Seven Deadly Sins of Humanity” and the “Seven Virtues”. **** Perhaps the 35mm is a film camera.
