Biography
Evgeny Leonov-Gladyshev from birth and for quite a long time was simply Evgeny Leonov. He got a double surname after he began actively acting. So that he would not be confused with the then famous actor Evgeny Leonov and would not be considered their relatives, he decided to add his mother’s maiden name to his father’s surname and became Leonov-Gladyshev.
The actor’s father was involved in a very serious matter: he worked as an electronics engineer at a secret enterprise where MiG aircraft were assembled. “When they were declassified, I came to them with a concert,” said the actor. “The father was so happy, he told everyone: “This is my son!” And during the war, dad was a military pilot, bombed Berlin. The actor shared: “The living conditions in the boarding school were harsh, but for me there was one wonderful outlet there: a drama club. At the age of 12 I played the banker Shipuchin in Chekhov’s “Jubilee”. The audience roared: “Zhenya, come on, burn!” And so it sank into me like a drug.”

From shelter to actors

And then a small miracle happened. One day, the assistant director of the film “Republic of SHKID” came to their boarding school, looking for talented guys. "Pitfalls" of personal life
Leonov-Gladyshev married for the first time while still a student. His chosen one was fellow student Lyudmila Firsova. Not everything was smooth in family life. Only in 1979, eight years later, the couple became parents. A son, Artem, was born.
Outwardly, for many years they seemed to be a model family. But after living together for almost a quarter of a century, they separated. As it turned out, the relationship had outlived its usefulness, and they did not want to coexist as neighbors.
Later, the actor’s ex-wife was diagnosed with cancer, but it was not possible to save her. And only after that the star father tried to make up for lost time by getting closer to his son. And he managed to forgive his parent after learning that his parents divorced because of his father’s affair.

In the hospital, in addition to a serious head injury, doctors will also find broken ribs. The nature of the injuries could indicate either a fall from a height or a beating. I’m nervous, I knock, asking if you’d like to get in a taxi, the meter is knocking. The door opens and Luda comes out... without her luxurious braid. They are from Siberia, they have their own traditions regarding marriage... I was shocked. But there was no time to start a scandal. It was necessary to urgently move to the registry office. By the way, it was Klavdia Mikhailovna who bought me a wedding suit. My mother spent everything on the feast. True, Klavdia Mikhailovna also made her contribution. She was the director of the Ulyanovsk distillery. I remember going to meet her from the train. Grab your suitcase, but it’s too heavy to lift! It turned out that she put three bottles of vodka, five “Rowan in cognac”, two cognacs and four champagne there! The wedding was fun. In the corridor of our communal apartment they set tables and invited about fifty people: neighbors, relatives, friends, Vasily Vasilyevich Merkuryev... Much later I realized that Lyuda’s tragedy was that she married me...

“Merkuryev was very upset: he subconsciously dreamed that his son Petya would look after Lyuda... And then I made a feint with my ears. In my last year at the institute, I was cast in the lead role in the film “Docker,” starring Nikolai Gritsenko , Elena Sanaeva , and Rolan Bykov . Merkuryev read the script and summed it up: “Not interesting! Evgeny Borisovich, there’s no need to take off.” And I dropped everything and went to filming, setting up the woman I loved. Vasily Vasilyevich was offended by my disobedience, I was immediately replaced in all graduation performances, despite the fact that in two of them I played the main role. And then came the graduation - diplomas, congratulations, a banquet. And I sat in the educational theater on Mokhovaya and cried... Together with me, another person was not given a diploma - my wife Lyudmila Firsova.

I came to him and brazenly declared: “I want to get a diploma.” - “Why didn’t you get it with everyone?” - he asked. “I was on the set.” - “Then sign and pay sixty kopecks for the badge.” I rushed home and shouted from the doorway: “Firsova, run to Mokhovaya!” Then, according to the assignment, we had to go to the city of Sovetsk, Kaliningrad region. The troupe is twenty-six people. What is there to do? Just drink yourself to death... But even here you were lucky. After “Docker” I was invited to the Film Actor’s Theater. I tried to lobby for my wife's interests. But the director immediately said: “We already have Chursina .” Indeed, they are similar: the same height, the same outline of the face... Maybe this similarity ruined Luda? Georgy Tovstonogov invited her to his theater . And it was not easy to get there! She even started rehearsing with my friend Yura Demich . I remember he met me and began excitedly telling me: “Zhenya, we took such a woman to our theater! Amazing! Second Chursina". - “What’s your last name?” - “Firsova.” - “So this is my wife.” You should have seen his face: “Is it true, kuzdrik?” But things didn’t work out with Tovstonogov either...

— Did you make your wife worry?
- I didn’t wander around anywhere. Although, I won’t hide, I had hobbies. And, apparently, Luda knew about them or guessed. But she understood the nature of the profession and never confused love and office romances. For example, I am deeply convinced that an actor must have certain feelings for his partner, otherwise nothing will work out. However, it is not at all necessary to go to extremes. I had an incident that I will remember for the rest of my life. Tanechka Dogileva and I starred in the film “Lights” based on Chekhov. Everything would be fine, only the film contained not just an explicit, but a downright criminal scene with a completely naked actress. After the take, I couldn’t stand it and said: “Tanya, you are a brave woman!” “It’s nonsense - they’ll cut it out,” she laughed. Is it possible to remain indifferent to such a partner? (Laughs). You know, I feel a huge guilt complex towards Lyuda: I couldn’t help her professionally. Now, with position and name, I would do anything. And then she went on expeditions with me only as a wife.

The actor’s first wife was Lyudmila Firsova, his colleague who starred with him in some films. She is most recognizable for her role in the war film Forget the Word Death. Evgeniy and Lyudmila were married for no less than twenty-five years. They had a son, with whom Evgeniy still keeps in touch and continues close communication.
After his divorce from Lyudmila Petrovna, the actor found a new love - Tatyana. Evgeniy met his future wife at a business meeting in the office of a major businessman - she worked as a chief accountant in that company. From that moment they have not separated. Tatyana has nothing to do with the acting profession, but Evgeniy literally idolizes his second wife and considers himself incredibly lucky to have her. The couple has no children together, but Tatyana’s daughter from her first marriage often stays with them. I have a wonderful wife, I have finally found a calm home. I communicate with my son from my first marriage, we have an excellent relationship, he understands that life is multifaceted and it just so happens... Directing works
Evgeny Leonov-Gladyshev first acted as a director in 1992. Then, in collaboration with Viktor Trakhtenberg, he filmed a social drama called “The Supreme Measure.” The film was based on the story “Boxing” by the well-known author Evgeniy Kozlovsky, and Evgeniy played one of the roles in it.
The film touched upon such a serious and controversial topic as the painful thoughts and condition of a man who was sentenced to a harsh death penalty. The film won the prize for best directorial debut at the film adaptation film festival “Literature and Cinema,” but it did not bring Eugene widespread fame among his fans.
Somewhat later, he also made a film in another variety of this genre - a melodrama called “House of Hope”, in the filming of which such actors as Anna Samokhina and Dmitry Nagiyev took part. Then, after a meeting with the famous small arms designer Mikhail Kalashnikov, Evgeny Leonov-Gladyshev released a biographical film about his life.

By the way, the actor himself called the role of Alyosha Ustyuzhanin among the most dear to his heart.

Initially, Evgeniy was offered to try out for one of the main roles - Volodya Sharapov. But then the actor learned with great disappointment that the artistic council did not approve him. (In the end, the role went to Vladimir Konkin). And then Stanislav Govorukhin offered him a small role as operative Vasya Vekshin.

The actor admits: “... many of the films from my luggage are erased even in my memory, not to mention the audience’s. But I watch “Meeting Place...” and get great satisfaction. After the film “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed,” Evgeny Leonov-Gladyshev continued to actively act in film. He also had good luck and passing roles in his baggage. Directors often invited Evgeniy to war films - the actor fit the roles of dashing lieutenants, captains, majors, and commissars very well. They were all similar to each other, only the number of stars on the shoulder straps changed, but the essence remained the same.
In 1992, Evgeny Borisovich tried his hand at directing for the first time. In 2020, Evgeniy also took part in the filming of the new drama series “Wings of the Empire.” The film describes the events taking place at the beginning of the last century, as well as the heroes who survived the February and October revolutions and other difficulties of that time.
Also last year, the actor celebrated his sixty-five-year anniversary, to which a huge number of publications devoted special issues and published many interviews with Evgeniy.
