Once upon a time, the songs of Sergei Chumakov attracted full houses of spectators who happily sang along with the performer the words from such hits as “Teenage Girl”, “From Spring to Spring”, “Viper”, “On Tverskaya”, “Groom”, “Valyay- go for a walk." After his tremendous success, he suddenly disappeared from the scene, which gave rise to various rumors about this.
However, Chumakov found the strength to once again do what he loved, thanks to which new hits and tours in Russian cities appeared in his creative biography. The star of the 90s was convinced from his own experience that a person can control his own destiny and much in life depends on himself.
First steps in career
The future singer was born in 1972 in Moscow. His parents had working professions: his father worked in a restaurant, and his mother was a crane operator. Sergei showed an interest in music even in his early childhood years, which his parents immediately noted. When they played records with songs by famous singers and groups, the boy tried to sing along, accurately grasping the melody. Soon, 6-year-old Seryozha was taken to a music school, but the kid was bored sitting in the choir class, so he didn’t stay there long. He loved not only to sing, but also to play football and hockey with his friends. While relaxing at the camp during the summer holidays, the young man learned to play the guitar. Quite quickly he became the life of any company, performing his favorite songs to his friends.
After graduating from school, Sergei entered a mechanical engineering college, after which he worked as a dairy equipment operator. Perhaps singing would have remained only his hobby if it had not been for his acquaintance with the poet Alexander Shaganov, which took place in 1988. Shaganov appreciated the guy’s vocal abilities and soon became his producer. Since the young man did not know how to read music, the first songs had to be rehearsed to the accordion. In 1991, the aspiring performer took part in the television competition “Morning Star”, where he managed to charm not only the audience with his singing, but also the jury members of the program, who awarded him victory. Alla Pugacheva also noted Chumakov, thanks to which he sang at her “Christmas meetings.”
Creative career
At the age of 17, he began his professional career as a singer, becoming a diploma winner in the “Morning Star” TV show competition.
Cooperation
Collaborated with such celebrities as: Nikolai Rastorguev, Sergei Minaev (backing vocals for the song “Viper”), Alla Pugacheva (participation in her project “Christmas Meetings”), Igor Sarukhanov, Ekaterina Semyonova, Anatoly Dneprov, Sergei Krylov, Leonid Agutin , Angelika Varum, Grigory Leps, Yuri Loza, Dmitry Chetvergov (guitar parts for the songs “Viper”, “From Spring to Spring”, “Prayer”, “Proud”, etc.), Ivan Smirnov, Arsenal (guitar parts for the songs " Romance”, “On Tverskaya”, etc.).
In 1997, Sergei Chumakov was invited as a player on the “Wheel of History” program together with A.I. Kalyanov and Presnyakov Sr.
After the death of his mother in 2004, the singer was depressed, and only entered the big stage (Balashikha, Ice Palace) in 2010.
Since 2011, Sergey Chumakov began recording songs for the new album “Cryptokaleidoscope,” which he released under his own label in April 2020. The songs “Don’t lie” and “Confession of an oligarch” appeared in 2011, in 2014 - “Catalonia”, “Varteli” and “Prayer”, the rest in 2020. After returning from tour in the spring of 2020, the singer released an album.
Since the spring of 2020, the singer has recruited Olga Petrova (host of the controversial author’s program “Forbidden Topics” on Talk-FM radio from 2011 to 2013) as the project administrator and Vyacheslav Rassypaev, a Ukrainian poet, as the chief editor for the website and publications.
In 2020, the top contestants of “Morning Star” gathered in the “Tonight” program with Maxim Galkin and Yulia Menshova, in the same year Sergei Chumakov starred in the feature film “Exchange” directed by Maria Pavlovskaya as an apartment buyer.
Team
From 1991 to 1996 - soloist and front (drums - Kirill Zagorets, guitar - Alexander Evsyukov, Sergey Kalugin, keys - Igor Slutsky, saxophone - Sergey Ovchinnikov). In 1996, Sergei Chumakov left the group, after which it broke up.
Popularity in the 90s
After successful performances on television, the singer went on tour, receiving numerous offers from concert organizers. During that period, he participated in various competitions and performed with the Lyube group. Having taken part in the “Shlyager” competition in St. Petersburg in 1992, Sergei became its winner. In the same year, his first album, entitled “From Spring to Spring,” was released, which included songs such as “I Like You,” “Groom,” “Maple Leaves” and others. The compositions were liked by listeners who became fans of his work. However, already in 1993, his collaboration began with composer Igor Azarov, who acted as the singer’s new producer.

Chumakov's second album was less successful, which affected his popularity. He soon changed his genre, performing songs in the style of Western music from the 50s and 60s. Despite this, his third album, entitled “Like the First Time,” failed, and after some time, the bright singer of the 90s disappeared from the screens. During the period of creative downtime, the performer was engaged in driving and also changed several different professions. At the same time, he had problems with alcohol, but Sergei found the strength to quit drinking and return to his profession.
Sergey CHUMAKOV
Sergey Chumakov (born June 7, 1972, Moscow) is a Russian singer whose popularity came in the early 90s thanks to his collaboration with the famous songwriter Alexander Shaganov.
He studied at Moscow school No. 252 and graduated from the Moscow Mechanical and Construction College. He has no musical education, and, by his own admission, Sergei does not know how to read music. However, this did not become an obstacle on the path to success.
Sergei Chumakov himself said: “Actually, I had no intention of getting involved with show business. He worked as a dairy equipment technician, and in his free time he and his friends sang on a bench with a guitar. One day a girl came up to me and offered to meet the poet Alexander Shaganov. Then I thought that the poet was some old guy with a beard, and there was no particular interest. But he still left the phone number to the girl. Shaganov called me back himself. It turned out that he was a young hairy guy. We started recording songs. Shaganov had the necessary contacts on television. Thanks to this, I got into the Morning Star competition, although I always sang only by ear. The first songs were generally rehearsed to the accordion. Of course, there was a desire to master musical notation, but I was too much of a hooligan guy. They kicked me out of the music school for bad behavior.”
So, in 1988, Sergei met the poet Alexander Shaganov, who would later become his producer (1991-93).
In 1990, Sergei met composer Valery Bashenev, who wrote the music for most of the songs he performed.
In February 1991, Chumakov became a diploma winner of the Morning Star television competition. In May of the same year, he toured Ukraine with the group “Lube”. Creates his own group - 10 “A”. In the early 90s, the song “Don’t hurt the little girl, groom,” performed by him was heard in almost all the houses of our vast Motherland.

By the way, it is interesting that, according to Andrei Derzhavin (whom we remember from the group “Stalker” and the hit “Don’t Cry, Alice”), another famous hit - “From Spring to Spring” - was written by him, and not by V. Bashenev. However, this fact is not indicated in the official editions of the album.

The first album, it should be noted, was generally a success in terms of the abundance of hits - “Lilac Evening”, and “Viper”, and “Proud”, and “Beria”, and “Doves”.

In 1991-94. Chumakov tours a lot throughout Russia and the CIS countries, participates in various competitions.
So at the “Shlyager-92” competition in St. Petersburg, Chumakov won first prize. In 1993, his creative collaboration with A. Shaganov ceased. As Alexander himself admitted, the reason is Sergei’s addiction to alcohol. Their last collaborations were the songs “Here they are!” and “Friend”, subsequently unreleased, but flashed on television and radio.
Composer Igor Azarov became the singer’s new producer. In 1994, the album “Go ahead” was released, but he failed to repeat the success of the debut album, and only the songs “Go ahead” and “On the fourth floor” became hits.

Alexey Muscatin becomes Chumakov’s next producer. The singer begins to work in the style of Western music of the 50s and 60s. His works are influenced by notable performers such as Elvis Presley, Paul Anka, Louis Prima, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. During this period, the singer, who was losing popularity, even made peace with Alexander Shaganov. The third album, “Like the First Time,” included several songs based on his lyrics. However, Chumakov's attempt to perform ersatz Western music failed. The album was a complete failure, and Chumakov disappeared from the screens.
For more than ten years nothing was heard about him.
There were rumors that Alla Pugacheva helped Chumakov both get on stage and leave it. They say that the song “Don’t hurt me, groom,” which made Chumakov famous, was originally intended for the then favorite of the Diva, Sergei Chelobanov. For this, Pugacheva was offended and “closed” Chumakov’s path to show business.
Chumakov explains: “Alla Borisovna invited me to her “Christmas meetings '91.” It was after this that I received offers for tours. As for the song, I didn’t know that Shaganov first wrote it for Chelobanov, and Chelobanov had already sung it. Therefore, when Pugacheva told me: “Sergei, don’t sing this song anymore,” I was indignant. After all, the song became popular precisely in my performance. I answered Alla Borisovna: “How can I not sing? What should I answer to people: did you forbid me to sing or have I lost my memory?” And he continued to perform it. But I don’t think I disappeared from the screens because of this. I just couldn’t pay such huge amounts of money for broadcasts, like Pugacheva or Kirkorov did. My tours eventually stopped due to difficulties in the country - prices were rising, people were not paid for months. So my creative activity gradually faded away. Sometimes I thought: “Maybe I should go to work at the factory again?” At that time I didn’t disdain anything: I worked as a driver, then my loader friends who worked on a car transporting beer and furniture offered to help them. I tried it, carried the boxes, got some money. And he agreed to work with them constantly. I know that some of the former celebrities, after their career ended sadly, laid bricks and repaired electrical wiring.”
At that time, problems in my personal life were added to the problems in my career. Chumakov tried to drown all the troubles in alcohol.
“Of course, I was worried that my relationship with my wife did not work out. At first she tried to interfere in my musical career, saying that I was communicating with producers incorrectly, that I was doing everything wrong. I began to spend little time at home. Then the scandals began due to jealousy. My wife didn’t want to understand that I couldn’t get all the fans I had back then into bed. Someone can control themselves and not drink at all. It didn't work out for me. But I drank not because of scandals with my wife, but because of troubles at work. For example, a planned concert was suddenly cancelled. I was terribly upset and could have taken a glass out of anger. And where there is a glass, there are two. And so it went. Now I have decided to quit drinking and return to the stage again so that everyone will be surprised. And also because I saw how many died from alcoholism. But I still want to live. Two people in different cities, completely unfamiliar with each other, predicted my life until I was 80 years old. And they said that I would die a rich man. I believed in it and decided to make every effort to make it happen.”
After a long absence, in February 2010, the long-awaited appearance on stage took place at the Admiral yacht club - in a concert dedicated to the anniversary of the parodist Alexander Peskov. And already in March 2010, at the same yacht club, Sergei gave a solo anniversary concert. Also throughout this year, concerts were given in a number of Russian cities.
In 2011, Sergei Chumakov signed a long-term contract with producer Yuri Dubilevsky, with whom they had known and been friends since the early 90s, and his creative career took off sharply. In collaboration with his regular authors A. Shaganov and V. Bashenev, Sergei Chumakov records several new songs: “Don’t lie,” “We all came out into the public.” Thanks to the joint, well-coordinated work of the creative tandem “Chumakov - Dubilevsky,” Sergei’s songs began to spin in a new whirlwind on all radio stations in the country, the singer began to be invited to various television shootings and radio broadcasts. In the fall of 2011, the city of Mogilev (Belarus) hosted a large music festival “Golden Hit”, the apotheosis of which was the performance of Sergei Chumakov with his long-time hit “Groom”.

Personal life
In Sergei's personal life there were two unsuccessful marriages and several novels. His first family began in 1992, and his wife was make-up artist Svetlana. But due to the singer’s busy work schedule, his relationship with his wife deteriorated, and they soon divorced. The second marriage was also short-lived. Quarrels and misunderstandings often arose in the family, which soon led to divorce. Children never appeared in these unions.
Despite the fact that there are affairs with women in his life, Chumakov is not yet married. Thanks to his mother, who is no longer alive, he learned to cook, wash, iron and clean. But the stage star’s desire to be happy in marriage has not disappeared, so he dreams of a serious relationship with a woman. The singer is also thinking about building his own house, but for now he lives with his relatives: his father, sister Natalya and niece Anna.
Sergey is in good physical shape and has a normal weight for his height. His creative profession obliges him to have good posture and a toned figure. In order not to gain extra pounds, the singer sometimes has to give up his favorite food and go on a diet. Chumakov also chooses time to go to a cosmetologist, where he gets a massage and various facial treatments.
