A talented girl with a difficult fate
Yaroslava Degtyareva, whose biography is still too short due to her age, lived the full life of a good girl: she studied unprofessionally in the vocal studio “Inspiration,” studied at school and helped her mother around the house. Everything would have been fine if not for one incident that completely turned the child’s life upside down. When little Yaroslava was five years old, she got into a terrible accident with her parents. But she was able to return to life and decided to prove herself in a creative vocal competition on Channel One. Mother Olesya and seven-year-old Yaroslava Degtyareva came to the project. Many immediately noticed that there was something wrong with the girl’s eye. A small defect is visible on the face, but it cannot be called ugly. It only attracts unnecessary attention at first. The family came from the city of Gukovo, in the Rostov region. They moved there to Yaroslava’s grandmother Nadezhda Ivanovna after that terrible accident.

The girl’s family tries not to remember the past, just like Yaroslava Degtyareva herself. Only the scars remind you that something bad happened to your eye. Three years ago, Yasya and her parents were driving in a car, and their car was blown into a cliff. The glass broke and shattered into tiny fragments, injuring the girl’s face and body. Fortunately, her mother Olesya was not hurt so badly and was able to help her daughter in the first minutes. It became clear immediately that Yaroslava Degtyareva would have problems with her eye, based on the nature of the injuries received. The head suffered the most damage; the blows caused an open craniocerebral injury. Numerous wounds and scratches, closed fractures and ruptures of internal organs were also found on the child’s body. The best doctors fought for the life of the little star all night, trying to do everything possible. They managed to literally put it back together.
Biography of a girl
Yasya Degtyareva-Bumagina was born on August 14, 2008 in the town of Gukovo, Rostov region. And in 2013, all the neighbors and relatives were shocked by the news : the girl’s family, along with their daughter, had an accident. Yaroslava's father lost control of the car and the car flew into a ditch. The windshield broke, and fragments hit Yasa in the face. She spent the whole night in surgery, surgeons tried to save her life. After the accident, she had a traumatic brain injury and broken limbs. Ophthalmologists pulled dozens of fragments out of her face, and orthopedists pieced together leg bones.
After the accident, Yaroslava’s parents separated, the girl remained with her mother. The grandmother of the young talent was worried that her granddaughter would develop complexes because of the scars. But Yasya proved to her, her mother and those around her that she is not afraid of difficulties and is ready to stand up for herself. The girl began to walk on her own, helped adults, and while in the hospital she entertained patients with her songs.
Even doctors and nurses were surprised at little Yaroslava’s determination. Despite the severe pain, she stood on crutches and then learned to walk again. Now it is almost impossible to notice that the girl had fractures in both legs.
Rehabilitation in hospital
For about a month, the girl was unable to get out of her hospital bed. They were together all the time: mother and Yaroslava Degtyarev. The accident left them alone with each other (dad does not live in the family). Gradually, the girl began to raise her head, and then stand up and move around on crutches. At first it was very difficult for her. Mom was worried about her daughter’s moral state, because not every adult can survive such a shock. While in the hospital, the girl continued to develop: she studied with textbooks, drew a lot and read books. Yaroslava loved to stage mini-performances with song accompaniment, fortunately there were always many spectators in the hospital. It’s difficult to put a person in a positive mood when there are so many sick children around, but Yasi’s mother always told her about her love and about the great opportunities that await the little star after recovery and discharge.
Voice
The child’s vocal gift was noticed at the hospital. As soon as the pain subsided, the girl began to sing for the doctors, little patients, and their parents. It was then that the idea arose to try my hand at “The Voice”. Within the walls of the hospital room, the dream seemed distant and illusory. But Olesya firmly believed that the black streak could not last forever and Yaroslava would definitely be happy.
After being discharged from the hospital, Yasya and her mother returned to Gukovo - to their beloved grandmother and cat Max. For a long time, the grandmother did not know about the accident: her daughter did not want to injure her. And little Yaroslava was waiting for the scars to disappear from her face. The girl wanted to return home healthy and beautiful.
Everything that happened next looked like a fairy tale. The path to success was rapid. By a lucky coincidence, the school where Yasya entered had a vocal club. The girl was immediately noticed and invited to the studio as a soloist. Then there were victories in regional and all-Russian vocal competitions. Inspired by her daughter’s success, her mother sent a recording of her songs to the “Voice” show.
“I learned that Yasya was being invited to live auditions in Moscow on my birthday. So there was a double celebration in the family,” Yaroslava’s mother recalls today.
At the blind auditions, one of the youngest participants in the competition had to perform first. Yaroslava was terribly worried and mixed up the key in the first verse. But the jury liked the little incident. The song “Cuckoo” by Viktor Tsoi, performed by her, captivated both the audience and the jury members. By the way, the young contestant heard the song itself for the first time on the eve of the performance. There was practically no time left to learn the composition, but Yaroslava firmly stated that she would sing it.
With a song through life
When the girl got to her feet, she began to walk around the wards and sing for the children who were still lying down and could not get up. She encouraged them as best she could, charging them with positivity. Everyone knew that cheerfulness and songs in the department were all about Yaroslav Degtyarev. It’s scary to describe what complex procedures were done to the eye in the hospital, but the girl passed all the tests. Yasya experienced true pleasure seeing how children joyfully perceived her songs. She felt it necessary to help them in some way. When my grandmother cried, Yaroslava calmed her down and said that everything would be fine and there was no need to cry. The girl still faces a long period of recovery and plastic surgery.
Further career
But even when the next season of “The Voice” began, they didn’t think of forgetting about Degtyareva, who had won the hearts of the whole country.
She and her mother moved to Moscow, the little girl was invited to perform on the radio, she appeared again and again on Channel One, and once she even tried herself as a model at Fashion Week in Moscow. In addition, the baby took part in the show “Alice in Wonderland on Ice” in St. Petersburg and won the title “Girl of the Year” at the Teens Bachelorette Award in March 2020. “I prepared several songs for the casting in Ostankino (qualification round before recording the broadcast - editor’s note), recalls Yaroslava. “I didn’t know which one to choose and sang my favorite “Cuckoo,” although my mother and I didn’t prepare it specifically for the casting. I heard it before performed by Polina Gagarina in the film about the war “Battle for Sevastopol”. I liked this song. She's really fighting! I love strong songs. The most important thing is to sing powerfully. With soul, from the heart. And without a goal. Because if you eat with calculation, without a soul, then it won’t work.

“I don’t go to music school yet, and I don’t practice vocals professionally,” the singer admits. — I’ve been singing in the vocal studio “Inspiration” for more than a year now since I went to first grade. By the way, I have a friend there. He is as funny as Dima Bilan. And his hair looks like him. And a humorous character. I also love being outdoors and training my dog. I love interviewing my dolls or my cat, as if I were playing “Evening Urgant” - “View from Below.” My mother and I also often go to the park and ride horses. When I was still little, that is, smaller, I also rode horses, so now I’m not afraid. I haven’t learned how to drive it yet, but skating brings me pleasure.
