Childhood and youth
Valentina was born in Moscow 4 days before the start of the Great Patriotic War. Alexander Malyavin’s father, then still a colonel in the Soviet army, was sent by the command to defend his homeland in the Far East. The family followed - wife Anastasia Alekseevna and two daughters, eldest Tatyana and newborn Valentina. The Malyavins returned to the capital at the end of the 40s, and Valya went to study at secondary school No. 71.
Valentina literally dreamed of becoming an actress since childhood. She was small in height (163 cm), but had a spectacular appearance and a deep look. Fellow student Irina Miroshnichenko recalled Malyavina as a seemingly fragile person, but temperamental and passionate.

Valentina Malyavina in her youth
After studying for a year at the Moscow Art Theater School, the girl transferred to the Higher Theater School named after Boris Shchukin, to the workshop of the People's Artist of the USSR Boris Zakhava, whom viewers know from the role of Mikhail Kutuzov in the epic film by Sergei Bondarchuk - Sr. “War and Peace”.
Malyavina received her diploma as a theater and film actress in 1962 and was immediately accepted into the troupe of one of the most prestigious theaters in the capital - the Lenin Komsomol. After 3 years, Valentina moved to the Evgeni Vakhtangov Theater, where she served for 14 years. Then the stages of the Film Actor's Studio Theater and the commercial Moscow theater "Artist" briefly appeared in her life. By the mid-90s, Malyavina’s career virtually faded away.
Depression
Another loss led to Valentina becoming even more addicted to strong alcohol. I began to hang out in random companies, often drinking with complete strangers. One of these new acquaintances almost deprived her of her living space by trying to transfer the apartment into his name.
Another dubious acquaintance of hers, in 2001, while drunk, pushed Valentina hard, and she hit her head on the floor. As a result of this injury, Malyavina completely lost her sight.
Now the once famous actress is 77 years old. She lives in a boarding house for science veterans. Wealthy and famous acquaintances who cared about her fate were able to place her there. It is considered to be a luxury nursing home with high-quality social and medical care and very strict control. Residents are deprived of contact with the outside world, and visitors cannot visit them without special permission. Guests are not even allowed to use telephones. They are only allowed to go for walks accompanied by staff.
Valentina Malyavina underwent several operations, but was never able to restore her vision. Therefore, she simply needs such care, attention and care. She is occasionally visited by acquaintances with whom she once acted in films.
Personal life
The personal life of Valentina Alexandrovna is the plot of a drama series. Only she never played the main role, which probably every woman dreams of.
Malyavina is the first wife of Alexander Zbruev. The couple met in early youth. The future famous actor, and then an ordinary Arbat boy, was 3 years older than the girl. They began dating, and Valentina was not yet 18 years old when she realized that she was pregnant. The young people decided to get married first, and inform their relatives about this event after the fact. The Malyavina family was the first to learn about the wedding, then the Zbruevs were informed.

Alexander Zbruev and Valentina Malyavina
The parents accepted the information that their children were now husband and wife relatively calmly, but the news about the bride’s interesting position was received with scandal. Valentina, who is in her 7th month, was taken to a doctor who induced artificial labor. Later, Malyavina would claim that until recently she had no idea where and why she was taken. One way or another, after this scandals began to arise between her and her husband. Zbruev, who really wanted this child, could not come to terms with the loss of his daughter.
The coldness in the family also influenced Malyavina’s romances on the side. During the filming of the film “Ivan’s Childhood,” Valentina fell in love with director Andrei Tarkovsky, for whom this film, by the way, is his debut. The man reciprocated the young woman’s feelings, although it was obvious that nothing serious could come out of their union. None of the lovers intended to leave their official partners. It is known that Tarkovsky asked Malyavina to appear exclusively in his works, and she was not against this, but in the end “Ivan’s Childhood” remained their only collaboration.
While still married to Alexander Zbruev, Valentina met director and actor Pavel Arsenov on the set of the film almanac “Youth”. And if she didn’t tell her husband about Tarkovsky, she decided not to hide her new novel. Moreover, Malyavina filed for divorce, and after the court’s decision she immediately officially married her new lover.

Valentina Malyavina and Alexander Kaidanovsky
However, this marriage did not bring happiness to the woman. The common child died during childbirth. And then in the play “Hamlet” Valentina saw the already popular actor Alexander Kaidanovsky. After the performance, they met, and the amorous woman became interested in the fatal handsome man.
After touring together, Malyavina and Kaidanovsky became lovers. The actress’s husband, Pavel Arsenov, also knew about this connection, but he was sure that his wife’s infatuation would soon pass. Moreover, friendships even developed between the men; they often communicated and visited each other. In fact, Pavel Oganezovich turned out to be right. Valentina's passion really passed, but only after 6 years.
Her civil marriage with Alexander Kaidanovsky was more like a training ground: they quarreled and swore all the time. After one such conflict, the actress even returned to her legal husband, but only for a few days. As a result, she faced both a break in relations with her actual husband and a divorce from her official one.
It was Kaidanovsky who introduced Valentina Alexandrovna to the young actor Stanislav Zhdanko, who turned the artist’s whole life upside down. For the first time she saw a guy who was 12 years younger than her on the stage of the student theater at the Shchukin School. During subsequent communication, it turned out that Zhdanko had long been selflessly in love with Malyavina and even hung her photo in his room above his bed.

The novel was short, stormy and incredibly tragic. The young man wanted to quickly ascend to the star Olympus, and then suddenly the role on which he was betting was taken away from him. Stanislav began to experience depression, which neither Valentina nor he wanted to see, so they drowned the surrounding problems in wine.
As a result, another evening spent drinking alcohol ended in tragedy. In 1978, Stanislav Zhdanko was found with a knife in his heart. Initially, the police considered the incident a suicide. Vladimir Vysotsky and Galina Brezhneva believed in the actress’s innocence. The secretary general's daughter advised Valentina to go abroad.
Five years later, after repeated petitions from the mother of the deceased, the case was raised again, the investigator was fired for incompetence, and Valentina Malyavina was accused of premeditated murder. The court sentenced her to nine years in prison. Nina Ruslanova spoke on the side of the prosecution, and Natalya Varley spoke in defense.
Neither during the investigation, nor in the courtroom, nor subsequently, after the amnesty in connection with the 70th anniversary of Soviet power, did the actress admit her guilt and insisted on the version of suicide.

Stanislav Zhdanko and Valentina Malyavina
Having been released on parole, Valentina Aleksandrovna tried to return to work in theater and cinema. First of all, she came to Lenkom, Alexander Zbruev provided assistance. But the ex-husband avoids talking about that time.
Malyavina’s next husband was the well-known blacksmith and metalsmith Maxim Krasnov, who at one time created an artistic fence around the Tretyakov Gallery.
The actress began to draw herself and participated in exhibitions. Having painted a commissioned portrait of Nicholas II, Valentina involuntarily began to look for a man who looked like the emperor. I found the icon painter and woodcarver Alexander, but he died from a knife blow to the back when he went out to meet Malyavina late in the evening.
Another grief further aggravated the addiction to strong drinks. Valentina Aleksandrovna began to change companies frequently, often drinking with random people whom she saw for the first time in her life. One of these “friends” almost deprived her of her living space by trying to transfer the property into his name. And another in 2001, during a quarrel, while intoxicated, strongly pushed an elderly woman, she fell, hit her head on the floor and lost her sight as a result of the injury.
Popularity and second marriage
Slava Malyavina had a fatal role in the life of a young woman - she did not want to live with Zbruev only to run a joint household. Therefore, when she worked on the same set with handsome men, she preferred to start new relationships, regardless of other people’s feelings and mental suffering. Thus, having met the actor and director Pavel Arsenov while working on the film almanac “Youth,” the woman told her first husband everything and, having divorced him, immediately remarried.
A sad fact: the family was supposed to have a baby, but after the birth it turned out that the baby was infected with hepatitis C and the daughter did not live to see her discharge. From that moment on, Valentina vowed never to have children again, and the woman kept her promise.
Malyavina led a social lifestyle, diligently attending all the actors’ gatherings after a successful premiere or a sell-out. So, after the debut performance of “Hamlet” with Kaidanovsky in the title role, the amorous beauty got to know Alexander better. The romance broke out at lightning speed and lasted about 6 years with varying success - both lovers were too selfish and hot-tempered to give in to each other.
It is noteworthy that the legal husband Arsenyev endured his wife’s overt infidelities for a long time and, hoping that feelings for the fatal handsome man would quickly pass and the eccentric actress would return home. She actually came to Pavel after another quarrel with her rebellious lover, but the couple failed to improve their family life.
By this time, Malyavina was quite mired in alcoholism, and rarely a day passed without another glass. Arsenyev tried to pacify his wife, forgiving her one drunken prank after another. The end of their life together was the work on the painting “The Deer King”. By this time, the actress was carried away by her new chosen one, and the furious Pavel Oganezovich did not want to continue working together. For this reason, the ending of the film turned out to be somewhat different; the fairy tale story did not have a logical happy ending.
Movies
The young actress made her screen debut in the romantic melodrama “First Date.” And the very next work, the role of paramedic Maria in the military film “Ivan’s Childhood,” made Malyavina a real star of the Soviet screen. The production drama “Morning Trains”, the film about the Second World War “The Tunnel”, the light comedy “Literature Lesson” and the musical humorous fairy tale “The Deer King” also enjoyed great success with viewers.
The last of these films is notable for two facts: firstly, singer Alla Pugacheva performs the musical parts for Valentina, and secondly, according to the script, the film had a completely different ending. But during the creation of the fairy tale, a huge scandal broke out between Malyavina and her husband Pavel Arsenov; it was not possible to continue filming, so the ending of the story remained open.

Valentina also took part in Vasily Ordynsky’s large-scale military-patriotic project “Red Square”, a television play based on Oscar Wilde’s novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. It is also worth noting such films by Malyavina as the sports film story “The Price of Quick Seconds,” the biographical film about the great Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky “My Home is a Theater,” the production drama “You Will Find It in Battle” and the women’s story “When a Man Is Nearby.”
Then, due to a personal tragedy, Valentina Alexandrovna dropped out of cinema for almost 10 years. Only in 1988, a new work with her participation was released on the screens - the melodrama “The Husband and Daughter of Tamara Alexandrovna”, followed by the life film “A Woman for Everyone”, where such stars as Larisa Udovichenko and Nikolai Karachentsov also sparkle with talent, and the unusual comedy film "Autumn Temptations". Then again there comes an almost ten-year break. In 2000, the actress appears in one episode of the series “Editorial”, and this small role finally puts an end to Malyavina’s filmography.

Morning Trains (1963)
However, Valentina did not lose heart. On the set of the film “Youth” she had another affair with the director, Pavel Arsenov. She saw her refuge in a charming man and a good mentor. She confessed everything to Zbruev, filed for divorce and soon married Pavel.
Malyavina tried to live a family life this time and even tried to get pregnant again. But the son he shared with Arsenov died during childbirth. Bohemian drinking sessions and vibrant theater parties began again... While watching one of the productions, Malyavina became fascinated by the charismatic Alexander Kaidanovsky.
It was truly a fatal connection. The lovers shared a bed, cut each other’s wrists, and once climbed into an official’s dacha to spend the night and barely escaped the guards.
Both the actress’s husband and the actor’s wife knew about the passionate relationship. The first begged not to get a divorce, the second could not tolerate Kaidanovsky’s dislike and simply left the capital, going to her mother.
For several years they actually lived together as husband and wife, without dissolving their official marriage. In the end, Malyavina left Kaidanovsky for her real husband, but a few days later a complete break with Sasha and an official divorce from Arsenov awaited her.
Valentina Malyavina now
Now the once famous actress lives in a boarding house for veterans of science, where she was placed at the request of the Actors Guild. This is not an ordinary nursing home, but an institution of high comfort with excellent medical and social services, but with an incredibly strict regime. Visitors cannot enter there without special permission; residents have no connection with the outside world. They are not even allowed to use the telephone, and they only go out for walks accompanied by staff, especially Valentina Aleksandrovna, who, after the unfortunate injury, never recovered her eyesight, although she went through several operations.
She was not informed about the death of her last chosen one, Vladimir Krasnitsky. This man was considered Malyavina’s common-law husband, although he himself denied such a “title” and claimed that he was married and had a son. However, Vladimir did not deny that he had tender feelings for Valentina, because they had known each other for more than 30 years.

Valentina Malyavina in old age
The actress, who lives as a recluse, broke her silence a couple of times. In 2016, Malyavina agreed to meet with the film crew of the documentary “Role without the right of correspondence.”
In 2020, Andrei Malakhov became Valentina Alexandrovna’s guest. In a conversation with the TV presenter, the artist said that she regrets the break with Arsenov and is worried about Zbruev. She learned to believe in God, remembering the words of Fyodor Dostoevsky that if the Almighty does not exist, he should be invented.
The tragic page of Malyavina’s biography in 2020 became part of the plot of Vladimir Kott’s series “Intercessors.” The legal procedure is based on real criminal cases described in the book of the famous lawyer of Soviet dissidents and human rights activist Dina Kaminskaya.
As the director said, this film is about the hope that justice will prevail and everyone will be rewarded according to their deeds. Justice that Valentina Malyavina lacked.

Tunnel (1966)
Kaidanovsky, who left Valentina this time forever, still managed to introduce her to the aspiring actor Stanislav Zhdanko, who was 12 years younger than Malyavina. It was he who undertook to console the famous actress.
To begin with, he said that he had been in love with Valentina for a long time, then he began to court her, and they began a whirlwind romance.
As the woman with whom Malyavina ends up in the same cell will later tell, the actress seemed to feel Stas as if she were her own child. His every intention, every movement. And, of course, the young man was very jealous of the younger actresses among whom he constantly moved. This romance was again passionate and incredible, but this time boundless love led to tragedy.
It is still not known for certain whether the actress committed the murder, or whether the young man, in a fit of impulse, actually stabbed himself. Only after another lovers' quarrel did he end up dead.
The knife wound was shallow, but it went to the very heart. Then many people in the arts vouched for the actress; the investigation was stopped and then resumed for five years; Malyavina never admitted her guilt. But in the end she was recognized as a murderer and sent to a colony.
She was respected in prison - a famous artist. Not immediately, but they were assigned to the cult-mass section. According to the testimony of her cellmates, she felt guilty, prayed and asked God for forgiveness, waited for him to punish her and engaged in self-flagellation.
Tragedy
Stanislav was not hired to work in theaters, and television projects with him went unnoticed by producers. Because of this, the man became depressed, but Valentina did not try to help him. On that fateful evening, the couple had a strong quarrel, after which Malyavina left the kitchen for a while, and when she returned, she saw Stanislav covered in blood.
This happened in 1978. The investigation established that this was suicide due to the actor's lack of fulfillment. But his relatives demanded a review of the case, assuring that it was Valentina who killed Zhdanko.
Stanislav Zhdanko
Five years later, the case was reviewed, the investigator who worked on it was fired, and the actress was accused of a crime.
In 1983, the court sentenced Malyavina to 9 years in prison. True, 4 years later they were acquitted. It is worth emphasizing that she never admitted her own guilt.
After prison, the woman quickly found a job and also got married again - her new husband was Maxim Krasnov, a blacksmith and metal craftsman. After him, Valentina officially registered her marriage with icon painter Vladimir Krasnitsky. But their happiness also did not last long - the man was stabbed in the back when returning home late.
This was the last marriage in Malyavina’s biography, after which her personal life did not go well at all, and she did not have children who could become a consolation for the woman.
The actress was suspected of murdering her husband
The tragedy that occurred pushed Valentina even more strongly towards alcohol; her acquaintances and colleagues saw her many times in unreliable companies. One of her many lovers almost left the actress homeless. When the woman was drunk, he wanted to take advantage of this and transfer the apartment to himself.
In 2001, the actress was beaten by a friend after drinking together. He pushed the woman so that she fell and hit her head. The incident resulted in loss of vision. She had several eye surgeries, but it didn't help.
Popular fame
While still a student, Malyavina managed to star in several more films. The most significant role was Asya in the film story “Morning Trains”. And in her fourth year, director Ruben Simonov invited her to the Vakhtangov Theater.
Now she has become a theater actress. But she didn’t give up cinema either. Valentina Malyavina, whose roles in the theater were diverse, did not just play all her characters. She lived out their fate. Each time it was simply brilliant productions - “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, “Enough Simplicity for Every Wise Man” and others.
In the movie, too, everything turned out well. She was invited to a carnival-theatrical adaptation of Carlo Gozzi’s fairy tale “The Deer King,” where every frame with this stunningly beautiful woman looked like a small miracle. There was also the role of an officer’s wife in Red Square.
Photos of actress Valentina Malyavina were published in many publications throughout her life. In each of them she looked like a dazzling beauty.
Unfortunately, not all the films in which Malyavina starred were of a high level. There were also people just passing by. If not for the presence of Valentina Alexandrovna in them, it is unlikely that anyone would have remembered them 20 years later.
Savior
“I haven’t seen Valenochka for a long time.” I can’t walk due to severe shortness of breath. Although we talk on the phone several times a day. Yes, they wouldn’t let me see her anyway. The administration of the boarding house where she is staying is afraid that alcohol will be brought to her. And some "friends" do this. And Valyushka can’t drink at all: she becomes aggressive and uncontrollable. You see what a scar I have on my head. From her favorite frying pan, by the way!
They keep her in a boarding house in a “black body”. She can’t even get a pension for five whole years. The administration took away my savings book and passport. A crazy amount of pension money has accumulated, including accruals for group 1 disability.
STAS ZHDANKO |
By the way, Valya’s mobile phone, which I had given her, was confiscated and put in a storage room. They said so as not to steal it.
Valya is not allowed outside the boarding house.
She cannot even receive royalties for her books. I tried to take her away by taxi several times. They don't release it like that! Using different prepositions. Like, Malyavina doesn’t need money. What if, God forbid, she dies? “And we will bury her ourselves!” - says director Valentina Medvedeva. Who will help Malyavina? There is, however, one lawyer I know. But once he came to Valya, he got so drunk that he almost fucked all the nurses. And now they won’t let him near the boarding house. — Valentina seems to have a sister? - Yes, Tatyana. But she does not take any part in Valina’s life. He visits once a year and that’s it. - How did she end up in this boarding house? “A woman named Tata sent her there. This is the daughter of a convicted woman with whom Valya was in prison. Malyavina stood up for her and defended her. When Valya got into trouble, Tata, with the help of private detectives, actually pulled her out of captivity, where she ended up thanks to some “friends.” They sent Malyavina to some nursing home in the Kursk region. They wanted to illegally take possession of her home. Tata has locked Valina’s apartment and is fully paying for her stay at the boarding house. That's almost $800 a month. Tata is a very wealthy man. She has restaurants in Moscow, London and Paris. She herself lives on Nikolina Gora. — Vladimir Petrovich, are you really Malyavina’s common-law husband? - Which husband? I have a legal wife and a son. Yes, we have known Valya for more than 30 years. They even lived together, sleeping in the same bed for five years. I love her, that's all. And she has no one else but me.
Film debut
After receiving her school certificate, Valentina Malyavina, a Soviet actress in the near future, became a student at the Shchukin Theater School. And immediately, when she was still in her first year, the as yet unknown director Andrei Tarkovsky drew attention to her. He could not pass by the beauty with black eyes that seemed to pierce through and through. In his first film, “Ivan’s Childhood,” he invited her, Valechka, to play the main female role.
During this filming, passion flared up between the young actress and the aspiring director. Many years later, actress Valentina Malyavina recalled that then she was sure: it was Tarkovsky who was her happiness, it was he who was her great love and destiny. But she was married to Zbruev, and Tarkovsky was also married. He really asked his Valechka to star only in his films. Much to their regret, they never worked together again. Life either brought them closer or pushed them away from each other.
Malyavina was also sure that by letting Andrei go, she made things easier and better for everyone. Other actresses who came to his set could not share him even after his death.
