Svetlana was born in the city on the Neva in October 1982 into a friendly large family. The parents, ordinary workers who worked at a local enterprise, sought to give their daughter and son Roman a good education. The girl, in addition to regular school, graduated from music school in piano class.

At the age of 12, Sveta saw an advertisement for enrollment in a children's theater studio at the foundation of composer Viktor Reznikov and could not pass by. Classes were held at the Vremya Theater, taught by artists from St. Petersburg theaters. Everything was interesting and adult-like.

Having received a certificate of secondary education, in 2000 Svetlana Shchedrina entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Theater Arts to take a course with one of the leading actors of the Alexandrinsky Theater, People's Artist of Russia Parshin. After graduating from St. Petersburg State Technical University, the young actress was accepted into the service of the “Comedian’s Shelter” theater: this is how her lifelong dream came true, she began to “engage in her favorite profession, from which she received pleasure.” Svetlana Shchedrin was immediately included in the theater’s repertoire of performances: “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” directed by Isakov for the role of Lady Windermere, “Forever Nineteen,” for the role of Sasha.
The talented actress’s graduation performance was “The Glass Menagerie,” which was later accepted into the theater’s repertoire, in which she plays the role of Laura.

After graduating from the theater academy, the young actress joined the staff of the Comedian's Shelter theater. At the same time, Svetlana’s graduation work was the play “The Glass Menagerie,” which, with the arrival of a new addition, appeared in the theater’s repertoire. Shchedrina appeared on stage as Laura. In addition, the directors entrusted the aspiring but bright actress with character roles in the productions “Forever Nineteen” and “Lady Windermere’s Fan.”

In 2009, the actress went to work at the Drama Theater on Vasilievsky. In this theater, Svetlana remembered a rich and interesting period of working with director Andrzej Buben. Shchedrina appeared on stage in the plays “Russian Jam” and “The Witches of Salem.”
The first of them is a winner of the “Golden Sofit” award, a nominee for the “Golden Mask”, a participant in the international festival in Poland and the festival “The best St. Petersburg performances in the Baltic countries”. In an interview, Svetlana called the first day of filming a movie terrible. Then she was still in her third year and was cast for the role of a court secretary in the well-known “Secrets of the Investigation” with the participation of Anna Kovalchuk, Sergei Baryshev, Yulia Yakovleva. The inexperienced student was embarrassed by the film crew and felt squeezed and alien. Subsequently, her heroine Olga Tsvetkova grew to become an investigator at the prosecutor's office, and the role from an episodic role turned into one of the main ones, equivalent to Zhenya and Maria Shvetsova.

Shchedrin didn’t like many things about Olga: the actress can’t stand business suits, although in the photo the official uniform suits the woman very well. I was embarrassed by the loveliness and frivolity in relationships with men, especially with married men, and even at work. And the most unpleasant thing, Svetlana shared, was that at first the young investigator was too naive and in some places simply stupid.
In parallel with the detective story, Svetlana starred in supporting roles in the melodrama “Three Colors of Love” with Anna Samokhina and the adventure drama “Favorsky” with Ilya Shakunov. Both series were directed by Dmitry Svetozarov, each meeting with whom, according to the actress, is a holiday.

As the actress admitted, she had to prepare especially carefully for the role of Anna Nikolaevna in the historical drama “From the Back Door,” based on the story “Memoir” by Mikhail Roshchin. The actors rehearsed for a long time, each scene was filmed in detail. In addition, the image of a teacher is complex, because in the plot the heroine begins an affair with a ninth-grader. And the events take place in 1949.

According to Svetlana, when she read Anton Chekhov’s play “The Cherry Orchard” or watched it in the theater, she unwittingly tried on the role of Anna. Director Sergei Ovcharov realized the actress’s secret passion in the film “Garden”. Anna, performed by Shchedrina, captivated viewers and critics; Svetlana created the image of an aristocrat of blue blood, who knows her worth and is emotionally impenetrable.
In 2012, Svetlana again met on the set with Dmitry Svetozarov in the popular TV series “Coltch and Stepmother.” The picture covers a twenty-year period in the life of two families. One has a daughter who becomes seriously ill, and the mother is looking for funds for treatment. Another has a full house, but no children. Shchedrina got the role of this girl, who was abandoned by her desperate mother, and who was cured and raised by her second, adopted mother.

Svetlana has a creative family. The actress met her husband Alexei Vasiliev at the Comedian’s Shelter, at a rehearsal for the play “Forever Nineteen Years Old.” Alexey graduated from the same university, played in the same performances as Svetlana, only in a different cast.

The premiere of the new series “Alien” with Dmitry Isaev and Denis Matrosov is planned for the spring of 2018. The main character of the film, Catherine, lost her memory as a result of a car accident. Over time, the girl comes to the conclusion that she is a pawn in someone else’s game, and meeting some people is not accidental. Svetlana Shchedrina will appear in the role of Veronica.
