Boris Dergachev: “On the screen I embody the image of a charming loser”
— What kind of character did you get? How do you see his character?
— He is persistent, angry and kind at the same time. Of course, Tolik found himself in circumstances that allowed him to show masculine character traits and at the same time give up slack. He is an ordinary person who managed to find courage due to difficult life circumstances.
— Did you have the feeling that the writers were planning a remake of “Autumn Marathon”, and your Tolik is a modern intellectual who is not able to make a choice between the women he loves?
- No, the fact that this is a remake is not true. This is an original story, completely invented by Daria Gratsevich. Of course, when writing scripts, the authors follow certain canons, which can work as a reference to a particular film. In this scenario, the canons are destroyed; this is an original story about ordinary people who find themselves in a difficult situation.
— When working on the image, did you have references in front of your eyes that you wanted to build on?
- Did not have. The reference was not a single character - be it a book, play or film. Together with director Dmitry Dyachenko, we came up with the image of my character, how he could talk. After I was approved, auditions for female roles began, which lasted for a whole year. I tried to thoroughly find out everything, to understand how my hero would behave in a given situation. A lot of work was done on the role. We tried to understand the hero’s motive in certain situations, or, if something was beyond understanding, we turned to Dasha. When she could not be personally present on the set, we called each other and found out what exactly she put into this or that scene and sorted out the context. The character was created with the direct participation of the authors of the series. Dima Dyachenko, while working with an actor, explains the task and at the same time shows, so in some moments you can recognize him.
— Which scene was the most difficult for you?
— The stunt scenes were technically complex, and we filmed them straight back-to-back during one shift. For example, where I had to fly backwards from the third floor. Yes, I had insurance, but the moment was still exciting. As for splits, this goes to actor Kirill Polukhin.
I never thought that such a character, who usually plays villains, military men, police officers, and corrupt officials, would lash out so much on camera. I remember there was a moment where I put on masks of cats and dogs in the Snapchat application, and at that moment Kirill’s character came up from behind, who according to the plot was supposed to scare me. I look, and it appears on the smartphone screen, and all these cats and dogs are also superimposed on it. We laughed for so long that we couldn't stop. Then we got together and filmed the scene.
— Is playing with several beautiful women at once a gift, a temptation, a punishment? How did your girlfriend feel about you playing love with three beautiful ladies?
— Playing with three beauties, professional actresses, is happiness, joy... But what else? I am always lucky to have partners; they add beauty and talent to the footage. Daria Moroz is a very experienced actress, and I kept thinking about how to work with her in one frame. But after we shot the first scenes, it became obvious that everything would be fine. She is not easy, but there is not even professionalism in her, that goes without saying, but a certain chemistry. Thanks to casting director Tatyana Khrechkova, who crossed us - Daria Moroz and Boris Dergachev.
— Have you ever found yourself in the situation of your hero?
“I am always in a position of choice. I liked several girls at the same time, and how can I decide who to date, whether there will be common interests, and whether there will be anything to talk about? All men and women, it seems to me, are always at the stage of choice. There are so many options around from which you have to find your person. It is clear that through some ordeals, trial and error, we find. And sometimes it happens completely differently: once, and you immediately met your person, and nothing else is needed.
— Do you have a feeling that big roles are coming to you more often? What do you connect this with?
“I have a number of main characters that I have played, and I’m happy about it, but at the same time I never shy away from supporting roles. When you are the most important in the film, you need to carry the face, the idea of the film, and in the background you can have fun. There is less responsibility here and you can misbehave. There is a director Anton Maslov who said that now in Russia the role of a charming loser has finally appeared in films and TV series, and Boris Dergachev is one of those who embodies it. It’s like Lukashin in “The Irony of Fate”... I was in the right place at the right time. Lucky.
— When the series “In Short” was aired, you said that relationships with women, professional activities, tourist trips and sports are what a man always cares about. Could you tell us what trips and what sports interests you?
- Any trips. Now, for example, I am filming in Belgrade, Serbia. And I am very glad that my profession allows me to travel. Before that, I filmed in Bali, then I was in Petrozavodsk. So I’m wondering when and why I would have made a special trip to Petrozavodsk if it weren’t for the cinema. My life has connected me with travel, and it’s wonderful. As for sports, in the spring I bought myself a longboard. And when I have a weekend, which is extremely rare, or when I need to go to a casting, I take a board and ride. And so I play football, in the theater championship.
— Have you posted videos from the yard box on Instagram? Can you go out and play with the kids or the Tajik janitors? Will they find out?
“They find out, I can play, but more often I go out on my own, alone.” I have a ball at home, and when you realize that you are sitting at home and doing nothing, you just take it, go into the yard on the box and play. Some skills are being developed, I don’t know where they will be useful to me, perhaps someday I will be able to star in some sports project. True, now my invoice does not allow me to do this. But I continue to play.
