Biography
Sergey Gubanov is originally from Nizhnekamsk. Here the future actor graduated from high school, while simultaneously studying singing and attending a theater group. Then the family moved to live in Perm. Sergei was going to devote his life to music, but later he entered GITIS in the workshop of Sergei Golomazov.
The artist says: “At that stage when I was trying to make a career as a singer, unfortunately, we did not yet have normal show business in our country. So what should we do? This was not my way of making money to survive. There were some endless investments. We had 1–2 companies that could afford to take an artist, promote him, and allocate a budget.
I decided that singing was not my destiny, and I went where it seemed to me that I could realize myself one hundred percent. And I don't regret anything! Because, having arrived at the institute (and I was the oldest applicant, I was already 25 years old), having experience on stage, extensive touring experience, knowing the audience, having a certain spiritual breakdown, I was able to succeed as an artist, my past to me helped a lot."
In 2006 he graduated from the theater institute.
Sergei Gubanov: biography
The famous actor was born in 1977 in the Voronezh region, almost immediately after that his family moved to the capital. Sergei Gubanov talks little about his childhood years. It is known that the world of cinema fascinated the child even in the first years of his life. While studying at school, the boy devoted more time to the theater club than to general education subjects. He enjoyed playing in school productions and at one time was fond of singing.
After graduating from school, Sergei Gubanov became a student at GITIS on his first try. He successfully graduated from university, despite constantly filming films since his second year. The actor fondly remembers his student days, despite his busy schedule.
Cinema
Sergei Gubanov made his film debut in 2005 in the comedy series “Sunday in the Women's Bath,” immediately receiving the main role as producer Sedykh. A year later, the actor was invited to play the central character in the film “Reckoning” (USA), and then he was busy in the American action film “The Gift” in the role of FSB captain Yuri Malakhin.
At home, the artist became widely known in the 2010s. His most striking works: Major Andrei Ignatov in the crime film “UGRO. Simple Guys-3", pilot officer Andrei Sukhotsky in the military drama "Fate Called Farman", Kirill Borzov in the film "High Stakes".
The actor had the opportunity to play many interesting roles in TV series shown on the Rossiya TV channel: “There Was Love” by Nikolai Kaptan, “Boiling Point” by Oleg Shtrom, “Krovinushka” by Olga Grekova, “Without a Trace” by Stanislav Libin, “Someone else’s Life” by Andres Puustusmaa.
Sergei Gubanov is also remembered for his melodramas: “Unexpected Love Will Come,” “Once and Forever,” “I Will Never Forget You,” “Widower.”
"Doctor Richter"
In 2020, another film with the participation of the actor was released on the Rossiya TV channel - the highly rated project by Andrei Proshkin and Ilya Kazankov, Doctor Richter. This is the official adaptation of the cult American TV series House. The main character of the film is cynical, harsh and withdrawn. But at the same time, he is an incredible professional: he has dozens of saved lives, because Richter is able to make a diagnosis, even if other doctors have given up. Each of his “cases” turns into an investigation, and he and his team become detectives following the trail of the disease.
The artist shared: “It was difficult to adapt the project to our reality, largely due to small details. So, in Doctor House, almost all the patients live in private houses, but here it would look funny. I can say that the work was not easy, but interesting, and the team was excellent. Alexey Serebryakov coped brilliantly with his role, it was interesting and instructive for me to be on the same stage with him. I'm pleased."
"Guest from the Past"
At the same time, the artist played one of the main roles in Vyacheslav Lavrov’s melodrama “Guest from the Past.”
Plot: Andrey (Sergey Gubanov) and Tatyana (Tatyana Abramenko) have been married for several years. They are happy and really want children, but Tatyana just can’t get pregnant, and the couple doesn’t want to involve a surrogate mother or adopt a child.
Unexpectedly, a certain Olga (Kristina Kuzmina) comes to Andrei’s work. She presents him with a boy - Nikita - and claims that he is his son.
Andrei decides to do a DNA test and, while waiting for the results, settles Olga and Nikita at his dacha. Afraid of upsetting his wife, he decides not to tell Tatyana anything.
Meanwhile, Tanya notices that her husband has begun going to the dacha too often. She suspects that Andrei has a mistress, so she goes there herself...
In total, the actor has more than forty diverse roles.
Movies
Yes, American cinema noticed the artist first. The producers of the film “Reckoning,” a joint production with America, England and Russia, were looking for an actor. Sergei Gubanov passed the casting of four thousand aspiring actors and received the role. And although a role in a foreign film is not the young actor’s first experience on television (Sergei played the role of a producer in the Russian series “Sunday in the Women’s Bath”), “Reckoning” became the starting point in his career.
Sergei Gubanov in the film "Reckoning"
After the role of Dmitry in the film “Reckoning,” the actor was noticed by the director Greek Marx and invited him to play the role of Yuri, an FSB captain in the film “The Gift.” The director is a colleague and student of the inimitable Tarantino. Two American films in which the young actor played attracted the interest of domestic producers and directors. This was followed by the role of an investigator in the Russian film “UGRO. Good guys".

The film “Three Wishes,” released on television in 2009, cemented the artist’s success. The drama with elements of mysticism acutely touches on the problem of choice and moral issues. The actor had successful roles in the TV series “Comrades Policemen”, “Brother and Sister” and “Krovinushka”.
In 2012, Sergei Gubanov was invited to the jury of the “I am an Actor” competition, in which he took part with great pleasure - he liked the idea of helping aspiring actors get on television screens.
Sergei Gubanov in the film “Spellbound”
The role of the main character Andrei Shikov, an airborne reconnaissance captain, in the film “Spellbound” is rightfully called one of the actor’s best works.
Sergei Gubanov commented on his work in the television series “Dr. Richter” in 2020 as a new experience with the emerging complexity of adapting the popular American series “Dr. House” for the Russian audience.
The actor met his future wife Larisa as a teenager. The girl rented a room from Sergei Gubanov’s grandmother, where the loving couple lived for some time. In 1996, the young people legalized their relationship. The couple had a daughter, Karina, and 5 years later, a second girl, Angelina, was born. After 10 years of marital bliss, the actor decided that long-distance relationships were burdening the couple and proposed a divorce.

At that time, Sergei Gubanov was filming abroad in the film “The Gift”. Despite the circumstances, he remained on good terms with his ex-wife; when he came to Moscow, the artist tried to devote all his free time to his daughters.
While working in the USA, the actor began an uncontinued light romance with a member of the film crew. However, in 2012, Sergei Gubanov came to the conclusion that life without children and an ex-wife makes no sense. The actor proposed to Larisa a second time, and the woman agreed.

The couple decides to expand their family - in 2013, Sergey and Larisa become parents for the third time. Daughter Katya was born with a congenital defect - the girl has no fingers on one hand. But the actor does not despair and is doing everything possible to make his daughter’s life full, studying new medical possibilities for introducing a prosthesis. This is what Sergei Gubanov says about his daughter’s illness:
“I will make every effort to ensure that Katya becomes a full-fledged person. In Canada they do toe-to-hand transplants, but I don't approve of it. There is another option - in Japan they install special prostheses that are controlled by the brain. But this operation is performed only at 7–8 years old.”
The actor’s mother is most worried about the baby, fearing that the child with a defect may not adapt and not be accepted by society.
Personal life
Sergei was married twice to the same woman. The actor's ex-wife's name is Larisa. Their acquaintance took place in early youth. In 1996, the couple registered their relationship, and broke up in 2003. Five years later, Sergei and Larisa got married again.
The marriage produced three girls - Karina, Angelina and Ekaterina. The eldest daughter followed in her father’s footsteps - she entered the theater institute. The middle one devoted herself to sports and became the champion of Russia in rowing.
The couple were happy together for a long time, but in 2020 they separated again. It is unknown how long this time will last.

Interview
About the profession
“I treat any of my work the same way - I do my best. Someone will say: “Gubanov fell asleep with such beautiful words”... Not a damn thing like that! This is true. If you do your job well, if you are honest on screen, they believe you. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re a cop, Hamlet or Othello. Do your job well and everything will be fine.”
About a dream
“I dream of roles with which I can open up and realize myself. There is no definite answer, I can’t say: this is the character I would be happy to play. It all depends on the script, on the hero, on the story. In fact, I like to play not only positive characters, but also negative ones. Such heroes have their own charm, and they have an excuse for bad actions, because the person himself did not make himself, but the accompanying circumstances make him. So I’d like to play a scoundrel!”
About free time
“I don’t have much free time, but if I can find a day or two, I definitely spend it with my family.”
About Me
“I am a very risky person. I take risks for the sake of my family, for the sake of my loved ones.”
“I am not a superstitious person, but there are signs that people usually pay attention to in the film world. One of the bad omens is text dropped on the floor.”
“I am afraid of people who lie and believe in their own lies. I try to run away from such people.”
“I do not enter into dubious projects. I don’t like unpunctuality, indiscipline, deception.”
About hobby
“I really love sports, I love Pilates, alpine skiing. I love to travel."
