Communicating with the press is a must for those who dream of fame. In today's world, celebrities are worshiped like deities and we want to know the minutest details of their personal lives. Anyone under scrutiny feels pressure from the public. Sometimes, refusing to communicate with journalists can be a good strategy for achieving success in your industry, since it preserves some of the mystique of a particular person. In other cases, this does not have the best effect on the career of a media person, and sometimes for stars at the peak of fame, it does not matter at all whether they give interviews or not. Let's see which Hollywood celebrities don't like to talk about their lives.
Olsen sisters
When they first started their journey, they often communicated with the press. But as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen grew older, they increasingly began to shield themselves from public attention. In one of their latest interviews, celebrities noted that they do not want to share their personal lives with the whole world, so it is difficult for them to communicate with the press. “We've spent our whole lives keeping outsiders out of our lives,” says Mary Kate. These girls became famous when they were very young, it is only natural that they want privacy.
Types of interviews
This fertile genre of journalism allows you to reveal the versatility of a person’s character with the help of one successful phrase, one apt word. But it is also divided into subgenres - each type of interview is designed to meet a specific task:
- informational – a tough, concise, laconic type of conversation with a socially significant person, giving answers to pressing questions;
- blitz – short answers to clearly stated short questions; as an example: TV presenter Zhanna Badoeva was recently forced to answer 50 of the most unusual questions very quickly, almost without thinking; there is a type of blitz interview - laconic answers to the same question;
- analytical - in addition to obtaining answers to specific questions, it also contains an analysis of the fact; designed to understand motives and consequences;
- portraiture is a way of creating an image of a person through a conversation with him; this type of interview is usually carried out with famous representatives of cinema, pop performers and other famous personalities.
Beyoncé
After Beyonce turned from an ordinary pop star into a global celebrity, she began to give interviews significantly less. We're used to seeing her talking to reporters alone or with her Destinys Child bandmates. Writer Margot Jefferson says: "Perhaps she decided that interviews were not as dazzling for her as performances?" How much time do you think famous personalities should spend communicating with the press?

How to script a conversation?
Before you begin sampling and writing questions, it is important to consider the following points:
- Who are you interviewing? Name, achievements, personal characteristics, etc.
- Who are you taking it for? Target audience who will read/watch this interview.
- Why are you doing this? Target. What exactly do you want to know? What specific achievements of this person are you focusing on?
- Will the punchline questions be the most important and interesting for the target audience?
- The size of the final version of the conversation.
The interview should not sound smooth, otherwise interest in it will quickly be lost. Punch questions act as an interest trigger, so they must be included if you want to attract the maximum amount of attention from the audience to the interview. The interview is compiled in blocks and schematically looks something like this:
1
- Problem + Plot (1-2 questions);
- Climax (1 main question + 2-3 clarifying questions);
- Denouement (1-2 questions).
The number of blocks depends on the permissible amount of information.
2
This can be illustrated as follows:
- When did you decide to start a business, and what were the obstacles at the very beginning?
- Reveal the secret of how to start a business from scratch? On a low budget? With a lack of connections? What loopholes? What to avoid?
- When did your first result appear? How did it live up to your expectations?
The first block can be conditionally called “Starting a business”, then you create the same blocks “Promotion”, “Pits”, “Takes off”, etc.
Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp is known as one of the most private people on the planet. Struggling with fame, he decided to live most of his life out of attention. In recent years, the number of interviews he has given has sharply decreased, and it has become clear that he is not comfortable answering questions about his personal life in front of a general audience or on camera. Now that he is firmly established among the best actors, and his roles have become iconic, it doesn’t matter whether he gives interviews or not.
Future
Semin wanted to prepare a successor - for example, Pashinin or Evseev.
Ready to continue my career, money is not the main thing. But not in the FNL.
Age is not a reason to leave. He has strong health, he even worked with double pneumonia. “For Semin to say: “Give me a little break to rest” - this has never happened.” And a new punch to the management: they have no right to discuss his age at all. “I was not with you. I was with the Lokomotiv club.
Final appeal to management: “Vasily Alexandrovich, Anatoly Anatolyevich, I treat you well. But you can't work at Lokomotiv! Because this club has traditions that have nothing to do with intrigue. Leaving you is a much more disastrous decision than removing Semin.”
He believes that he will still be the coach of Lokomotiv.
Shia LaBeouf
His relationship with the press has always been difficult. In late 2013, LaBeouf came under fire and was accused of plagiarizing the work of renowned comic book writer Daniel Clowes. “In light of recent public attacks on me as an artist, I am retiring from public life,” he wrote on Twitter. After that, he appeared at the premiere of his film "Nymphomaniac" with the caption "I'm not famous anymore." Since then, he has stopped giving interviews, apparently deciding to actually hide from the press.

Autumn defeats, Smolov’s failures and the reasons for Kazanka’s absence from matches
The general director himself is to blame for the muscle injuries that Kiknadze spoke about. It all happened because the start of the preseason was disrupted - the players were busy negotiating contracts, and there was no time left for full-time work.
We lost points in the fall due to the difficult calendar. The league made no concessions, and this is necessary to win the Champions League. Yes, top clubs have a busy calendar, but they have the players to handle it.
He confirms that he did not go to Kazanka matches. But, firstly, there were high-quality broadcasts on YouTube, secondly, there was a connection with the Kazanka headquarters, thirdly, members of his headquarters - Loskov, Pashinin and Oganesyan went to watch the PFL: “I specifically changed the coaches who went to the matches affiliated teams to hear different opinions on players.”
Exceeded the goal of attracting students. “As a result, we have the most youth in the RPL. We almost always had at least four such guys on the field, and sometimes more. Show me at least one more club like this in the Premier League.”
Reasons why Smolov was not 100% productive at Loko:
1. Stress after failure at the World Cup.
2. In matches he needed to run not towards Alexei Miranchuk, but away from him in order to increase space. “But Fedor loves to work with the ball, which is why, on the contrary, he ran to the reception. We couldn’t change this, and it’s probably my fault.”
3. We couldn’t convince Fedor that after losing the ball we need to immediately fight for it.
4. If you go against the coach’s decision and volunteer to take a penalty, you must score. But the forward did not score against Spartak. Smolov’s decision to shoot from the spot during training camp is the only direct disagreement with the coach.
There was no conflict with Fedor. He let him go because Eder is a more convenient partner for Alexey Miranchuk.
I have never objected to Alexei Miranchuk leaving for a strong European club, but I am against openly saying that Lokomotiv is working for sale. “Is this a third-rate club? If you don’t achieve consistent results, what kind of players will come to you?”
Harrison Ford
One of the most famous actors of our time, Harrison Ford is usually very short and sharp in his interviews. Often, when present at press conferences, he gives very simple and unambiguous answers. He has said more than once that he does not like giving interviews, and promoting his films is one of his least favorite activities. He explains this by saying that his feelings are always censored and his words are distorted.
A certain Losyuk, who is responsible for new players, an Algerian agent and transfer failures
They decided to sign a contract with Nikolic a long time ago, this was known, but they parted ways with Semin because he was “not a tame coach” and “at certain points got in the way.” The coach didn’t care about the salary - he says that he was ready for budget cuts, wanted to work and hoped until the last that they would leave him.
The main reason for the conflict is transfers and a certain transfer committee. Semin believes that Kiknadze entrusted an important issue to an unqualified specialist. “Lists of potential newcomers to Lokomotiv are now being supplied by a wallpaper seller named Losyuk. <…> Either a distant relative, or not a relative.” Semin calls him an unofficial sports director and adds: “He only knows how to palm off mediocrity in his own interests and the interests of certain agents.”
And the “incomprehensible Algerian” Nabil Merabten is in charge of transfers. Considers communication with him humiliating. The reason for Kiknadze’s public attack on Guilherme over the contract is Merabten, he turned the general director’s head with promises to “reveal all of Europe.”
They did not buy a single player from Semin’s transfer list. Komlichenko was number one this season, he insisted on buying Bassogog in the winter, and he wanted Roman Eremenko in midfield.
He hints that the club selected players only according to data from scouting programs, and believes that this cannot be done. “That’s why there are selection departments, scouts - special talented people who cannot be replaced by any machine.” The coach cannot be confronted with a fact; he must communicate with the player before making a purchase. “I have to look a guy in the eyes, see if he’s ready for difficulties that he may not even know about.” Lately, Semin has had less and less chance of such communication. Transfers should be handled by smart people. For example, Boris Rotenberg (former Lokomotiv player), an independent person who knows football.
The departures of Fernandes, Denisov, Tarasov, Kvaratskhelia, Herkus are the fault of the leadership. There were conflicts with everyone.
Kvaratskhelia’s departure is an outrageous incident. Semin saw in him the successor of Alexei Miranchuk. “We have lost an inexpensive football player who, if Alexey left, would have immediately integrated into our game painlessly. And then it would significantly increase its value.”
Taylor Swift
At the beginning of her solo career, interviewing Taylor Swift was a no-brainer. After she soared to the top of the musical Olympus, Swift began to share less and less details of her life. In the run-up to the release of her latest album, she never even mentioned it to the press and kept communication with her representatives to a minimum. Some would argue that Taylor Swift's music speaks for itself.

Culture news in Perm
It would seem that interviews with stars appear daily in various media and social networks, but is it so easy to catch a celebrity, especially if you are a provincial media outlet? Former and current employees of Perm News spoke about their experiences, mostly unsuccessful. Look for successful experiences on the website :)
Lyubov Alikina, producing editor of the magazine “Dear Pleasure. Permian"
First attempt.
The group “Beasts” comes to Perm. I start looking for the organizers’ contacts on the group’s official website; the only “feedback” for the press is email. I write a letter, introduce myself as the editor of the Perm tab of a federal glossy magazine, two weeks later I receive a response from the PR manager of the Zveri group:
— To do an interview on site before a concert, you need to send questions to the tour manager, then call him and arrange a meeting.
I prepare questions and send them to the indicated addresses. We agree that I will come to the venue to do an interview 4 hours before the concert. It would seem: Hurray! Hooray! Fanfare! Happiness!
But it was not there. At the indicated time, no one is waiting for me, and then I am met by two gloomy guys - the organizers of the concert, and, citing the fact that there was no announcement of the concert in the magazine and the small circulation of the publication (5000 copies), they report that there will be no interview! “Maybe next time,” they finish the conversation with me.
Second attempt.
Noise MC comes to Perm on tour. I personally know the organizer of the concert, I propose to do an interview for the same federal glossy magazine, but I immediately receive a refusal.
— Wrong target audience. There is no talk of free passages; accreditation is paid, about 5,000 rubles. Obviously, Noise MC or his concert director are completely uninterested in covering the event, or consider provincial journalists to be mediocrities and/or freeloaders.
Elena Fedeneva, chief editor of the Perm News portal
The Animal Jazz group comes to Perm. Two weeks before the performance, we call the concert director of the group and agree on a time and place. “Control” call 2 days before the concert. On the appointed day, we arrive, as agreed, half an hour before the start of the concert, and wait with the rest of the audience in the foyer. I dial the concert director of Brutal Jazz, he asks to call back in ten minutes, then in half an hour, then he doesn’t pick up, then asks “not to call,” then he says that “there are difficulties of a certain kind that we cannot resolve” and says, that he will call back himself. At this time it becomes obvious that the concert is delayed by at least an hour. By the time the public starts to be allowed in, no one calls us back. I recruit the director myself, simultaneously apologizing for “calling again,” and asking if there will be an interview after all.
“Sorry, the situation in the group is very tense, so the interview is cancelled,” they answer me. You are allowed to go to the concert and take at least a photo, so the question “Why did we stand here for more than an hour?” receives an answer.
We go in, the Perm organizers happily nod at us, and the director of “Animal Jazz” informs us that perhaps there will be an interview after the concert, “according to the mood,” apparently, of Alexander “Mikhalych” Krasavitsky.
Meanwhile, the concert is still delayed, and the musicians start playing only at 20:15 instead of 19:00, and we know that at 23-something they have a train to Yekaterinburg. Mikhalych makes sarcastic remarks about journalists and the public on stage, but sings superbly. The concert flies by instantly, the audience is happy, but the musicians (read “Mikhalych”) are not in the mood for an interview. And for some reason, no one thought that we were ready to do an interview with any member of the Animal Jazz team, especially, judging by the photos with fans, all the other guys were in an “OK” mood. Or are all the other musicians in “Animal Jazz” not self-sufficient without Mikhalych?
In order to earn free admission to the concert (tickets at the entrance cost 850 rubles), we are writing a report from the series “as it happened, without embellishment,” but we did not wash dirty linen in public (while the concert was going on, club employees and organizers told many interesting reasons for such a long delays in the start of the concert and Mikhalych’s bad mood).
As a result, Mikhalych’s grateful fans expressed a storm of indignation at the material and suggested “tearing off the hands of these journalists,” accused him of unprofessionalism, etc. In short, the opinion of the editors with the opinion of the public is predominantly born in 1993. didn't match. Girls, be glad that the concert took place at all, because it was almost canceled 15 minutes before the start (isn’t this an indicator of the attitude towards the public?). Thank the organizers that Mikhalych still came out and did a show. He didn’t really want to come to you, take a look at his Twitter. By the way, he didn’t write there that he canceled two concerts before Perm and one after. We were lucky!
Liliya Pustovalova, correspondent for the Perm News portal
In September, she organized for her subscribers a concert tour of the British group “Hurts” (the hit “Wonderful life”), which was at the peak of its popularity. The concert closest to Perm took place in Chelyabinsk, where the Perm branch of the telecom operator organized the transfer of its subscribers.
The Perm News portal could not stand aside and agreed with Dom.ru to participate in this venture. So I was lucky enough to attend a concert of the most famous group! We discussed the possibility of an interview with the Perm PR manager of the company; she promised that a press conference would be organized before the concert. True, she made a reservation that there would be a lot of journalists - after all, media from Tyumen, Magnitogorsk, Kurgan, Yekaterinburg, Perm will come to Chelyabinsk, and perhaps not everyone will attend the press conference. I still began to prepare questions and look forward to meeting world stars.
Arriving at the place, I saw that there was no wave of journalists, and I was glad that I would get to the press conference. This was confirmed by Dom.ru employees. The PR manager of the Chelyabinsk branch said that the meeting with the artists would take place in 40 minutes, so I had to quickly get myself in order after a long journey and have dinner without tea.
It's time to note that the tour was organized in collaboration with Universal Music Group, a famous recording monster.
At the appointed time, journalists began to gather at the porch of the Chelyabinsk International Trade Center. Minutes passed, but representatives of Universal Music Group were in no hurry to start the press. So a lot of time passed in anticipation. Then it turned out that Universal Music decided to limit the circle of journalists and give only Chelyabinsk residents the right to meet with the group. Well, it’s very disappointing to come a long way and never get what you want! Then it turned out that not all Chelyabinsk journalists passed strict “media control”. 2 publications received the right to ask the group their questions... Exclusive!
All I could do was envy and enjoy the incredibly cool Hurts concert. Well, at least they were allowed to take pictures in the press zone! Special thanks for this!
Leila Sazontova, journalist of the Perm News portal
One of my last works was an interview with the Italian group Vanilla Sky. I’ll say right away: this was my first experience interviewing foreign stars, so fears and difficulties were associated mainly with the language barrier.
Accordingly, we had to find a good translator, and also learn how to work with a microphone and camera non-stop, since according to the conditions of the concert organizers, our interview had to be filmed. This was technical preparation for the interview. Organizational preparation traditionally turned out to be more difficult. Before an interview, I always scour the Internet in search of already published interviews with the artist, to find out how a person reacts to certain questions, and get acquainted with the work. In the case of “Vanilla Sky,” it was even easier for me: my husband enthusiastically listens to this group, who, during the preparation process, talked about the group’s work and let me listen to their hits.
I agreed to conduct an interview with the organizers of the concert in Perm; we decided that I would be able to talk with the musicians before the performance. True, we only managed to talk with the guitarist and bass player - before the interview, the band’s drummer got lost somewhere, and they could only find him at the end of the conversation. The interview itself was fun and relaxed. The guys kept switching from English to Italian (thanks to the translator Alexander, who was never at a loss!), sang songs, joked and answered all our questions with interest. Overall, the interview was excellent!
By the way, interviews with stars do not always go “according to plan” - you always need to be prepared for any surprises. This is what happened when I interviewed the legendary punks from the group “The King and the Clown”. After answering my questions, the musicians asked me to “help a little.” As a result, I ironed concert costumes and hastily applied a mohawk with Prelest hairspray. The concert was delayed for half an hour, I heard the fans in the hall already calling for the band, and at that time the lead singer of the group... fell asleep, waiting for me to finish doing my hair. It was not easy to wake up, but I managed and for the next hour and a half from the hall I watched the result of my work - the suit and hairstyle. By the way, you need to be prepared for less pleasant surprises. As practice shows, interviews with their idols often lead to disappointment at the moment when the stars appear before us as ordinary people with their own merits and demerits.
Kristen Stewart
According to Kristen Stewart, acting is her passion, but she would like to act in films without the side effect of fame. In a 2011 interview with Harper's Bazar magazine, she mentioned that she had experienced many unwanted effects from fame. Stewart considers interviews and fame to be the most difficult parts of his acting career. She says she'd like to just mind her own business. “I work the same way as you, so why should I talk about it? I want to be an actress."
Dave Chappelle goes for a walk
Dave Chappelle shocked the world when he walked out of his hit comedy series in 2005. He left behind a spotlight, money and almost all the interviews. For much of the public, he returned in 2014 to “The Late Show” with David Letterman to promote the upcoming Radio City Music Hall show.
While there were undoubtedly many contributing factors, one of the reasons Chappelle left was because he was becoming famous. On CBS This Morning, the comedian explained that "fame is a terrifying concept when it's aimed at you." He added: “At the end of the day, it is - you don't have that much control over it. You just try to be on your best behavior.”
Although he's back now, Chappelle has found a new appreciation for the smaller stage and low beam. “I found a height that I was comfortable with,” he said. “I found a way to do what I liked and avoid the parts I didn’t like.” For Chappelle, this new height meant a quieter life. “The way I got engaged to the world was different,” he said.
Bradley Cooper
For an actor as in-demand as Bradley Cooper, it's quite difficult to avoid public attention. The A Star Is Born actor believes that when he does a lot of interviews, it actually puts him out of work.
The more personal information his fans know, the less they perceive the character he plays. “I may be old-fashioned, but if you know too much about the person playing a role, then the actor will have to work harder to make the audience forget who they are, believe the character and enjoy the film.”
Nikolic's staff salary, 0 new sponsors and Hercus
Kiknadze turned the players against Semin. “I put a football player in the starting lineup, prepare him for the next stage of work, and I fully count on him. And the general director comes up to him and says: “Let’s do this. You leave, and we give you half the salary for the remaining term of the contract.” This player is still on the team, so the coach does not name his last name.
He did not oppose the reduction in wages; Kiknadze and Meshcheryakov artificially created a conflict. That statement is a reaction to a provocation. I would approve of reducing salaries if they spoke to the players like human beings.
The club will definitely not save money on Nikolic; the reason for the disagreements in negotiations on a new contract is not money. “I can’t name the numbers, but the amount of my completed contract is less than what the Serbian and his two assistants will earn in total.” Spalletti, Hiddink, Advocaat, Villas-Boas are top foreigners. How does Nikolic’s invitation fit in with development?
Over two Champions Leagues, the team earned 70 million, but what did Kiknadze and Meshcheryakov do? “Let Kiknadze name at least one sponsor he attracted.” The club survived the autumn crisis and could become even better after the Champions League. But Kiknadze and Meshcheryakov, instead of helping and taking the next step, ruined everything.
He speaks warmly of Herkus, he attracted fans and often harnessed the coach's support: for example, when Stoffelshaus offered to go to a training camp in the USA, but the coach did not like it - they supported him and refused the training camp.
Herkus and Stoffelshaus did a miracle - they brought Krychowiak to Lokomotiv. He was the first on the list submitted to the transfer committee. “It’s hard for me to even imagine how Krychowiak was persuaded by Herkus and Stoffelshaus.”
J. Cole's interview notes
For nearly four years starting in 2014, rapper J. Cole stopped doing press. Sure, there was a weird interview, but he basically cut the interview. Clearly suspicious of the interview feature, Cole told Billboard that he's "trying to play whatever game is going on."
Cole told Vulture that interviews are rarely meaningful. “Nobody ever asks anyone, That’s the problem,” he said. “It's almost like we're asking everyone - Hey, are you okay? Are you okay, are you sure you're okay? Okay, cool. Everyone's damn good."

Full selection: how to prepare interview questions?
Questions! It depends on them how successful or useless the interview will be.
The most appropriate motto for an interviewer would probably be the famous saying, “As is the question, so is the answer.” The effectiveness of the interview, the accuracy of the information received, as well as how interesting the article after the interview will be directly depends on how correctly the questions are prepared.
In this extensive article I will try to give the maximum useful extract that I collected for myself.
You need to be able to ask questions.
