Biography
At the dawn of his acting career, he was called the “Russian De Niro” because of his external similarity to the French star. And after working together with Fanny Ardant in the play “Joan of Arc at the stake” directed by Kirill Serebrennikov, people began to compare him to Gerard Depardieu. However, Russian actor Dmitry Nazarov has never been in the shadow of his foreign colleagues. He cannot be confused with anyone. He won the hearts of millions of viewers solely thanks to his bright personality, his talent and hard work.
Dmitry Nazarov's ancestors were wealthy merchants and lived on the banks of the Volga. The actor clarifies: “On my mother’s side, my ancestors are Saratov merchants of the second guild. I saw a house in Saratov that could be mine. With beautiful columns. Now there is a children's anti-tuberculosis dispensary there. So even the most greedy person will not raise his hand to take away his former property.”
Dima was born in Moscow, and he was immediately dubbed an “artist,” about which the actor says: “We have a family legend that when I was born, I screamed very loudly. And the elderly, experienced midwife said: “Oh, the artist is climbing!” So it stuck. I was drawn to amateur performances at school and in the pioneer camp. But after graduating from school, he entered drama school only in his third year. That is, there was a period when I was not yet sure whether I would be an artist or not, enough to make up my mind.”
In the two-year interval between the assault on theater universities, Dmitry tried himself in various professions, but he managed to achieve particular success in cooking. “My career at the bakery developed very quickly,” recalls the actor. — After a month of apprenticeship, I received the first category, and finished with the fourth. He was a multi-skilled pastry chef; he made cakes, but mainly baked the famous raisin muffins.
In parallel with the culinary arts, I received an education as an electrician, mastered the skills of a projectionist, an archaeologist... I worked very well as a set assembler, furniture maker, and props maker. All this happened, but it had nothing to do with my subsequent life - other than the experience of human communication and simply broadening my horizons.
The second attempt to enter the theater school turned out to be more successful, and the young man was enrolled in the course of the talented teacher of the Shchepkinsky School, Viktor Ivanovich Korshunov.
Childhood and youth
Dmitry Yuryevich was born in Ruza, near Moscow, on July 4, 1957. The midwife determined that the boy would grow up to be an artist. Only she didn’t know how difficult and long Nazarov’s path to art would be. His mother, by the way, is a graduate of the Gnessin School, and worked as a doctor. His father is an energy engineer who has made singing his hobby.
Dima devoted his childhood to improving his acting skills - he recited poems expressively, took part in school amateur performances with pleasure, and played in KVN.
Dmitry Nazarov in his youth (still from the film “Profitable Place”)
Nazarov was a well-fed, imposing guy, until one day he was attacked by hooligans. Then he enrolled in the sambo section, did not become a discharger, but could stand up for himself and others. And he also stretched out a lot. Now the actor’s height is 196 cm, weight is over 100 kg.
The first attempt to enter the theater was unsuccessful. Dmitry took the failure painfully and decided to settle on a more mundane profession - he became a pastry chef at a bakery factory. However, the dream defeated the prose of life, and Nazarov went to “Sliver”. This time, fate was kind to the persistent young man: he ended up on a course with Viktor Korshunov.
Theater
In 1980, Dmitry Nazarov became a certified actor, whose talent was highly appreciated by teachers. Therefore, it was not difficult for the young artist to find a job. He was accepted into service at the Maly Theater. Here Nazarov worked for more than 15 years, playing a total of about sixty roles. The aspiring actor appeared on the same stage with such luminaries as: Mikhail Tsarev, Mikhail Zharov, Igor Ilyinsky, Yuri and Vitaly Solomin, Viktor Korshunov, Elina Bystritskaya, Elena Gogoleva, Nikolai Annenkov.
At the same time, the actor played on the stage of the new, fashionable in those years, theater “Sfera”. The artist liked to work in a completely different, unusual for classical theater, spherical space, which has a unique possibility of transformation.
The actor warmly recalls his years of work in “Sphere”: “It was a wonderful and good time, I played roles that I would probably never play anywhere else. I played the pacer Gyulsary there. It was a touching, very difficult role vocally, physically, and morally. I played a woman - Queen Tartagliena in the Sphere Theater, I played Treplev in The Seagull - in a scandalous production, terrible from many points of view, but still interesting and dear. I played roles that I will never get to play again either in the cinema or in the theater. Therefore, I am very grateful for this period, like all beautiful things, it is over.”
In 1995, Dmitry Nazarov dared to leave the Maly Theater, although this decision was not easy for him. “I left the Maly Theater because, as it seemed to me, my time was running out, roles were flying past me,” explains the actor. — In the traditions of the Maly Theater, let’s say 19-year-old Glumov from “Profitable Place” plays at sixty. I couldn’t wait for it, I was bursting, I wanted something more, I believed that I could be useful. And instead - small roles.
And then the offer of Boris Afanasyevich Morozov arrived, who moved to the Army Theater, with whom we played four performances together at the Maly Theater. And I happily moved to the Army Theater, although I caused great surprise, because it is believed that people leave the Maly Theater only through the Ermolovsky foyer - this is the foyer where people are buried all the time. You can only leave the Maly Theater feet first, but only a few left, there were examples of this. And I left..."
At the Russian Army Theater, Dmitry Nazarov brilliantly performed several leading roles that he had previously dreamed of. For one of them - the role of Satin in the play "At the Depths" - he was awarded the Crystal Turandot Award in the category "Best Actor".
However, not everything in the theater worked out as we would like. There were interesting works, but the most important thing was missing - the audience, for whom the artist goes on stage. This circumstance served as the actor’s reason for searching for a new stage location. He recalls: “I play and play, but the hall is not full. And I understood that it was in vain. And when Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov’s offer came, I gladly accepted it, although it was a painful transition.”
Since 2003, the actor has been serving at the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov. Here he worked in productions by such directors as: K. Serebrennikov, M. Brusnikina, A. Yakovlev, J. Sas, D. Dyachenko. And in the theater directed by O. Tabakov, the artist shone in the ensemble with Marina Zudina and Irina Pegova in M. Karbauskis’s production of “Uncle Vanya” (Astrov) after A.P. Chekhov.

Entreprise
The actor’s work in the enterprise performance “Feast of the Soul” based on the play by Valentin Krasnogorov stands out. Dmitry Nazarov shares: “We did the play “Feast of the Soul” with my wife, Olya Vasilyeva, and director Boris Erin. This is our common theater project, into which we invest all our strength, all our free time and, unfortunately, all our savings.
This production is about love, but not only about it. A second-rate circus troupe comes to a provincial town, and a circus strongman moves into the woman’s apartment. He is already at the end of his career and is thinking that it’s time to stop in one place...
Viewers will see a story that every person has their own holiday of the soul. And about how difficult it is to connect the holidays of the souls of two completely different people. But how important it is to do this. Finding joy in a stranger. Make her yours, and make the person your family and friends. Here’s an ordinary miracle for you.”
Biography[ | ]
Born on July 4, 1957 in Moscow.
Father - Yuri Fedorovich, electrical engineer. Mother - Margarita Ivanovna, a gynecologist, graduated from the Gnesins Music College (evening department), had a mezzo-soprano singing voice[3][4]. My maternal ancestors were Saratov merchants of the second guild[5].
In his youth, he tried many professions: he worked as an apprentice electrician at the Mosenergoremont enterprise, as a furniture maker and props maker at a branch of the Moscow Art Theater, as a set assembler at the Theater for Young Spectators, as a projectionist[4] and as a master baker of the fourth category at a bakery[6]. According to Nazarov, he was especially good at cupcakes with raisins and sugar sprinkles.
In 1980 he graduated from the Higher Theater School. M. S. Shchepkina (course of Viktor Korshunov).
From 1980 to 1995 he served at the Maly Theater, where he played about 60 roles. He left the theater after a creative conflict with the management and an almost complete lack of leading roles[3].
Then he served in the Sphere Theater and the Russian Army Theater, and since 2003 - in the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater.
Cinema
The actor's film debut occurred in the 80s of the last century. He starred in a number of films and plays, and played a cameo role in Yuri Solomin’s biographical film “The Shore of His Life” about the famous scientist Nikolai Nikolaevich Miklouho-Maclay. He also created the image of the wide, sweeping Nil Nilych Zobov in the drama by Alexander Porokhovshchikov “I Do Not Allow Censorship to Memory.”
In the 90s, Nazarov appeared in several full-length films and played the main role in the short film “Love on a Raft.”
With the advent of the new century, a new, serial stage in the actor’s creative biography began. He turned out to be extremely in demand by directors. He played the director of a store in Nikolai Dostal’s crime detective “Citizen Chief”, the mayor of Ivanovsk in the third season of Mikhail Tumanishvili’s popular film “Turkish March”, and played the honest and principled judge Ivan Sklyar in Alexander Veledinsky’s film “The Law”.
"Railway station"
In 2003, the Belarusian-Russian film “Station” was released. It was this series that brought the actor real audience success. The film was directed by Andrey Kavun based on the novel of the same name by Oleg Andreev.
In it, Dmitry Nazarov very convincingly played the head of the station, Viktor Larin, who was never called anything other than “the man-locomotive”. He carried on himself the entire existence of a complex organism called a station. After all, the station is not only meetings, partings, constant waiting and an endless road. This is a whole world in miniature with its own laws and orders, living its own mysterious life.
The film was attended by: Yuri Belyaev, Valentin Smirnitsky, Andrey Merzlikin, Svetlana Antonova, Yaroslav Boyko and other famous actors.
A year later, the artist played Grossvogel in the multi-part action film by Alexander Aravin “The Red Chapel”. The action takes place in Paris during World War II. The actor says about the film: “The Red Chapel” is a famous spy network, it existed in France and Belgium and seriously harmed the Nazis. She worked for the KGB, for Russia. My hero, a Belgian Jew, gave all his money to the cause of the fight against Nazism.”
During the same period, Dmitry Nazarov starred in the comedy “Full Speed Ahead!” with Alexander Feklistov and Andrei Panin and the youth melodrama of Dmitry Astrakhan “Dark Night”.
"Penal Battalion"
Perhaps one of the most striking and memorable works of the actor can be considered the role of an Orthodox priest in the military drama by Nikolai Dostal “Penal Battalion”. Nazarov got into the character so accurately that he was remembered for a long time by everyone who saw this sensational series.
Upon completion of filming, the artist shared: “We filmed the series “Penal Battalion,” which takes place in 1943, mainly in the trenches and dugouts. This is an eleven-episode story of a penal battalion during the Patriotic War. I play Father Mikhail, a priest who, of his own free will, joined the penalty box - these people with burnt souls and hearts - and returned to them their will, life, Orthodoxy, and sense of duty.
Eduard Volodarsky, the author of the script, told me that there was such a case when a priest fought in a penal battalion. He ended up in the penal battalion not through the camp, but of his own free will. Lesha Serebryakov plays the battalion commander of the penalty box, Yura Stepanov - the thief in law, Roma Madyanov - the disgusting political instructor-Smershevite."
After such a complex dramatic role, Dmitry Nazarov took part in the film adaptation of the cult novel by Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov “The Golden Calf” with Oleg Menshikov in the title role. Adam Kozlevich, performed by the actor, was so original and bright that Nazarov was the only one who escaped the misfortune of critics who could not resist drawing parallels.
One of the actor’s longest works was the role of Alexei Ilyich Khromov in the series “Challenge”. The mystical detective was released on screens for four years in a row. Professional investigator Nazarova became the central character of the film. Together with his partners, the major was involved in solving mysterious crimes in Moscow and the provinces.
The last decade has brought the actor new interesting roles. He played the first president of Russia in Alexander Mokhov’s political drama “Yeltsin. Three days in August”, the chairman of the collective farm Savely Kuzmich in Anna Lobanova’s melodrama “The Color of Bird Cherries”, the father of the main character in the adventure film by Alexei Andrianov “Spy” based on the novel by Boris Akunin.
"Kitchen"
The growth of the actor’s popularity was certainly facilitated by his participation in the top-rated comedy series “Kitchen”. The main character of the film, Maxim Lavrov (Mark Bogatyrev), is obsessed with the dream of becoming a famous chef. He comes to Moscow and gets a job in the most famous and popular restaurant of French cuisine, the owner of which is a show business “star” (Dmitry Nagiyev).
In the film, Dmitry Nazarov created a colorful image of a Moscow celebrity - the chef of the Claude Monet restaurant. Like all talented people, Barinov has a lot of shortcomings, but there is one merit for which a lot is forgiven him - he is a cook from God.
In one of the interviews, the actor reveals some behind-the-scenes secrets: “We had a team of wonderful professional chefs on the set. We artists don’t know how to cook and shouldn’t be able to. True, on the eve of filming we were enrolled in cooking classes. But they did this so that we could cut and chop something on camera, like specialists. Just in case, other hands were removed for my hero - a real cook. I just had to throw this shoot in the trash because I’m left-handed and my stunt double is right-handed. So the hands in the frame will remain mine.”
Not suspecting that I have been a fan of Spartak for 35 years, the writers of “Kitchen” came up with this passion (in the story, Barinov is an ardent fan of the red and white). I can’t imagine what I would do if they decided that the boss supported CSKA or, God forbid, Dynamo. I would probably ask them to rewrite it or refuse to play it at all!”
Several seasons of “Kitchen” captivated viewers and the creators of the series so much that it was decided to continue this story. So in 2014, “Kitchen in Paris” was released and a new film “Kitchen in China” is planned.
The artist says about his attitude towards the film: “I take this work very seriously, I am happy that such a project has appeared on our television. It differs from many similar genre works. It is unfortunately called a situational comedy. These are translation difficulties. Our sitcom is something with fake laughter. There are no fake laughs in The Kitchen. The series is done with taste and tact; one can discuss its development from season to season. The fourth season is somewhat different from the first, if only because the first two seasons were made by its progenitor, creator and first director - Dmitry Dyachenko. He started, he selected the team, filtered everything that happens at the stage of writing the script - from editing to direct filming and editing. Then the conditions changed somewhat. For me, the first two seasons were more accurate..."
The actor's filmography includes more than six dozen roles. Among his latest works are: Major Kulyasov in the military drama about besieged Leningrad by Alexander Veledinsky “Ladoga” and centurion Grigory in Elena Tsyplakova’s melodrama “While the village is sleeping.”
Film career
His film career was also successful. At first, Nazarov tries himself in films in small roles, and after receiving a significant role in the film “On the Raft,” directors begin to pay attention to him.
New roles and new film projects follow. Not only films, but also multi-part projects loved by many: “Challenge”, “Law”, “Kitchen”. In each of them, the actor received the main role.
In total, Dmitry Nazarov took part in more than 80 films. It’s interesting that he does an excellent job in completely diverse genres: crime thriller, comedy, melodrama.
Voice acting
Many cartoon characters speak in the voice of Dmitry Nazarov. The most famous of them: “Chip and Dale to the Rescue”, “DuckTales”, “Prince Vladimir”, “The Jungle Book”, “The Fixies”.
But the actor especially enjoys working on the creation of computer games. The artist has more than two dozen of them. “Scoring computer games,” admits Nazarov, “is such an amazingly joyful, creative hooliganism. And you generally leave the studio after recording computer games just like a mouse, as if you had played a big performance. It's a tough, interesting story."
The actor also gladly took part in the creation of audio performances:
- “The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schweik” - Schweik
- "Taras Bulba" - Taras Bulba
- "The Lost World" - Professor Challenger
- “Dark Alleys” Ivan Bunin
- "The Inspector General" N. V. Gogol

TV projects
"Cooking Duel"
Since 2002, for six years, the actor hosted one of the most popular cooking shows on television.
Dmitry Nazarov: “When deciding to participate in the “Culinary Duel” on NTV, I consulted with some people, including Valery Todorovsky. It's no secret that film directors don't like it when actors are replicated (that's their term) on television. I had a painful decision-making process, but when I realized that I didn’t need to play anyone - some cook or comedian - I agreed to participate in this kind story that was in many ways useful for the viewer. Completely different people told me: “When you cook, you not only want to eat. I want to live." And this is very important. And if at least someone feels this way about the program, excuse me, Valery Petrovich, it means it is needed.”
In 2008, the artist left the project, passing the baton to Mikhail Porechenkov. “I left this project,” explains Dmitry, “because I was just tired. We need to change something in life. “I am very grateful to the entire Culinary Duel team for six years of fruitful and useful cooperation.”
However, in 2015, Nazarov returned for a year to the show that the audience loved so much. The actor says about the main benefit of the program: “Culinary Duel” simply teaches people how to use the gigantic variety of products that have appeared on the shelves today. And the chefs participating in the program are concerned about tasty and, most importantly, with a capital “H”, Healthy food. They always estimate the approximate number of calories in a dish by eye. This is already professional. Another thing is that our stars cook as necessary.”
The inimitable and charming presenter was in demand in other programs about food. In 2013, he hosted “The Hunger Games”, and later went to work on the “Million Dollar Recipe” project.
"Thought Factory"
Unlike TV cooking programs, Thought Factory is a show where inventors compete. And a competent jury pronounces its verdict. Dmitry Nazarov with great pleasure became the host of the program in 2009. “I was incredibly interested,” the actor emphasizes. “Sometimes I stood there with my mouth just open!” They are all from a slightly different planet, and I was amazed by the ease with which they spoke about things completely inaccessible to me. I could just as calmly talk about Stanislavsky’s system, but what they said was amazing.
Thoughts are like chickens. We need to create the conditions, and they begin to hatch. We are creating just such conditions. Not everything that is brought to the “Factory” is equally luxurious and fantastic... But even in the “bottom line” there is a lot of valuable and even necessary things.”
Father Frost
The actor has been playing the role of the country's main Santa Claus since the 1990s. He talks about his mission: “This is my main public role. Several media outlets almost simultaneously declared me the country's main Santa Claus. They did not think at all about those millions of children and adults who believe in Santa Claus. I hope this was done without malicious intent... There is Santa Claus, he has lived in Veliky Ustyug for more than two and a half thousand years. And I am his mentor, image maker, acting teacher.”
Personal life
Dmitry Nazarov was married more than once. His first chosen one, Natalya, gave the actor his eldest daughter Nina. Now Nina already has her own family, in which little Maria, the artist’s granddaughter, is growing up.
Nazarov's second (common-law) wife was Natalya Krasnoyarskaya - Honored Artist of Russia, hereditary actress, director of the Bolshoi Theater. Together they raised Natalia’s daughter from her first marriage, the now famous artist Maria Poroshina. Nine years later, the union of two bright creative personalities broke up. Now they don’t communicate, but as Natalya Krasnoyarskaya said in the “Two Wives” program, she has very warm memories of the actor, and she always rejoices at his successes.
Dmitry met his third wife, actress Olga Vasilyeva, during his years of service in the Russian Army theater. The artist shares: “One of the most important miracles is that we met Olga, my wife. And this miracle happened just before the New Year. I then came to work at the theater of the Russian Army. We saw each other immediately, but we beat around the bush for a very long time. I don’t understand when they ask me: “Do you believe in love at first sight?” I think there can be no other. We see each other, and then we decide whether or not to approach and continue the emerging relationship.”
Two children grow up in a happy family: son Arseny and daughter Arina. The spouses are very kind to each other. For Dmitry, his wife is not only a reliable support figure, but also a colleague on stage. And Olga admits: “For me, my husband is everything.”
Working in a bakery
Few people know that actor Dmitry Nazarov, remembered by millions of television viewers as a restaurant chef from a television series, began his adult life working as a baker. Yes, he dreamed of a career as an actor and even tried to enter a theater university after graduating from school, but he was not accepted there. Then Dmitry thought that in the legend of his birth there was nothing but the imagination of a midwife, and he was not destined to become an artist. And he went to work, because he needed to live on something, and for a whole year before the next attempt to enroll in studies somewhere, he could not sit on his parents’ necks.
The guy was hired to work at a bakery, as an ordinary baker's assistant. The duties included not getting in the way and not watching over the baked goods. But Dmitry closely watched the work of the bakers, and they gladly taught their skills to the inquisitive guy. Soon he received a rank, and lush baked goods and delicious muffins came out from under his hands. Dmitry worked like this for three whole years and managed to become a professional in his field, receiving the fourth category.
Hobby
Dmitry Nazarov enjoys playing the guitar and writing. The actor writes poetry and sets many of them to music. In his free time, he tries to stay in shape: he goes to the pool and lifts weights at home. But the artist’s main passion is Spartak; he is an ardent fan of the team.
Dmitry Nazarov: “I practically never miss those matches that take place in Moscow, at Luzhniki. I liked watching football on TV as a child. When I started studying at the theater institute, I found a lot of analogies between football and theater. In addition, the artistic director of the course, Viktor Ivanovich Korshunov, People's Artist of the Soviet Union, professor, supported Spartak. Then I came to the Maly Theater, where almost everyone was rooting for Spartak. When I began to serve in the theater of the Russian Army, where everyone was rooting for CSKA, I stood like a pillar in a storm - alone against everyone! The theater fans were led by the great Vladimir Mikhailovich Zeldin. They pecked at me, and I fought them off with epigrams. And then I came to the Moscow Art Theater and again found myself in the “homeland” of Spartak fans. In a word, he stood, endured and prevailed. By the way, I’ve played football all my life, but now I can’t: doctors forbid it.”
Biography of Dmitry Nazarov
Dmitry Nazarov is a famous Russian actor who managed to achieve success in several different industries simultaneously. From the very beginning, theater occupied a central place in his life, but later it was replaced by film roles. Currently, our today's hero is best known as a TV presenter. Such diversity has become one of the main character traits of the artist. But what other qualities does this extraordinary showman have? How did his career develop, and what bright moments did his life contain? We will try to talk about all this today.
Interview
The best cure for star fever
“I was taught at the institute. As soon as your head is spinning from success, you immediately need to remember five or six people who are more successful, more successful, more in demand, more beautiful than you, more athletic, etc., and more interesting in their profession, and immediately, as if by hand, they take off.
I once suffered from star fever when I moved to the Army Theater and played “Much Ado About Nothing,” and read as many articles to myself as I had never read in 16 years at the Maly Theater. And I started to feel starstruck: I realized that I was late for something, and in general I don’t like to be late, and the worst thing is that I’m not ashamed. And when I realized this, I felt ashamed. My God, I’ve been living like this for a whole month, shame. I immediately began to remember who was better than me...”
About working on stage
“The stage heals. Even if you go out to play a performance with a fever, then after it you find that the temperature has dropped. Maybe the energy of the hall helps here, the work invested by dozens of people in the piece you are playing... I don’t know if the actors died on stage, anything can happen. But the fact that the scene won’t let you die before you finish playing, I completely agree with that.”
About theater and cinema
Once Dmitry Nazarov was asked what he saw as the magic of theater. The actor replied: “The point is for the viewer to become an empathizer, an accomplice. So that when he leaves the theater, he thinks about something and changes something in his life. At least after those performances that call for love, kindness, unification, peace and happiness. And not after those who call for war, terrorist attacks, nationalism, etc.”
“I know a lot of actors who are lying when they say they don’t want to act in films. This is not entirely true. Maybe they don’t want to star in TV series, but no one refuses good cinema. Although, ask any actor: “Where is it more difficult?” He will answer: “In the theater.” “Where is it more interesting?” - "In the theatre". “Where do they pay less?” - "In the theatre". This is a paradox - it is more interesting and difficult in the theater, but they pay less for it. It’s not as interesting and at times easier in the movies, but it pays a lot more.”
About the acting profession and roles
“The acting profession presupposes the following: we pretend that we know how to do something that we actually cannot do at all.”
“Every new role is an exam; the actor constantly has to prove that he is not a camel. Although he has already proven this hundreds of times! But the paradox of our profession is that the more you succeed, the less room for error you have.”
“And in general, the roles are your children, even the most uncomfortable role for me at the Maly Theater (“Warm Heart” - Vasya Shustry), my mood deteriorated in three days, I couldn’t adjust myself in any way, it’s very difficult, humiliating. I couldn’t think of any tricks to turn this to my benefit. And then, I remember her, she is my secret one.”
About dreams
“I still have so many “unfulfilled dreams.” I still dream of having children, playing many more roles, raising grandchildren. I dream of building a large three-story house with three-meter ceilings. And so that this house would have three or better four entrances - for me and my wife, our children, for my mother-in-law and my husband, for my eldest daughter and granddaughter Masha... And in the center of the house there should be a huge living room where we could all gather together.” .
