People's Artist Vladimir Nazarov leaves the theater named after him

The artistic director of the State Musical Theatre, People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Nazarov, submitted a letter of resignation to the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation of his own free will. The artistic director told Izvestia about this.

“I am withdrawing my name and all my performances from the theater,” Nazarov said. — All the stories from the Ministry of Culture that I am fighting for the building (the theater is located in the building of the Olympic Village concert hall. — Izvestia) are nonsense from the first to the last word. I have always fought for the theater, but, as you see, the time has not yet come to serve my fatherland with impunity.

Together with the artistic director, members of his family occupying various positions are leaving the theater: son Artem Nazarov (chief director), wife Lydia Nazarova (head of the advertising department), son's wife Olga Nazarova (head of the artistic and production department) and daughter Ksenia Nazarova (actress).

Previously, the Ministry of Culture conducted an inspection of the State Musical Theater under the leadership of Vladimir Nazarov (the results of the inspection are at the disposal of Izvestia), during which significant violations were identified.

“In 2013, the Theater did not release 1 concert program, did not hold 11 festivals, exhibitions, shows, competitions, and conferences. For their implementation, 41 million 332 thousand rubles were allocated from the federal budget and unlawfully spent by the theater,” reports the Ministry of Culture.

In addition, according to representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the Vladimir Nazarov Theater provided the founder with false reports. Spectator attendance was calculated not from the actual number of seats in the hall, but from the number approved by ex-director Lidia Nazarova.

“For the creation of the solo performance “Ksenia Nazarova SnP” within the framework of the state assignment, the standard costs amount to 7 million 722.95 thousand rubles. It was visited by 122 spectators in 2013, and the revenue from the show amounted to 9.1 thousand rubles, which also shows the extremely low level of efficiency of the theater,” says the document of the Ministry of Culture.

In December 2013, it was announced that the Great Hall of the Vladimir Nazarov State Musical Theater would be transferred to the Moscow Philharmonic. Due to the large number of violations identified and the need to make major repairs, theater director Lidiya Nazarova was removed from her position and Karina Kondrashova was appointed director instead.

“Now I formally manage the theater, but none of my orders are carried out. In the theater, many people work in leadership positions who bear the name of the artistic director, so all my work is sabotaged,” Karina Kondrashova told Izvestia.

Vladimir Nazarov himself stated that he could not work with an appointee from the Ministry of Culture.

“This is a man who destroys the theater and destroys my business,” said Vladimir Nazarov. “We created this theater with the whole family. All members of my family have the highest qualifications and excellent theater education. My son graduated from Moscow State University and the Moscow Art Theater School. And as soon as the rumor spread that from the position of head. My daughter-in-law quits the production department; she was immediately offered a post at the Stanislavsky Theater with a huge salary.

The artistic director also criticized the department’s report, saying that all the figures in the document were obtained as a result of “multiplying a monkey by a parrot.”

— It says that we give 60 performances a year. This is a lie - we give 300 performances a year. For comparison, the Moscow Philharmonic gives 700 concerts a year with 9 halls and 150 groups, and we organize almost half of this number with one group,” said Vladimir Nazarov. — And as for my daughter’s play “Ksenia Nazarova SnP,” on which 8 million rubles were allegedly spent, that’s also a lie. The entire production costs 34 thousand rubles.

Meanwhile, the director of the department of state support of art and folk art of the Ministry of Culture, Sofya Apfelbaum, noted that, despite the actual cost of the production of “Ksenia Nazarova SnP”, announced by the artistic director, according to the documents, more than 7.5 million rubles were spent on it.

“In addition, Nazarov’s statement that the theater holds 300 performances a year is also untrue. The real figure is less - in the report on the number of performances, the artistic director included 61 “Secrets of the Backstage” excursions and 16 “Magic of Music” programs that are not performances,” said Sofya Apfelbaum.

At the moment, according to theater director Karina Kondrashova, disciplinary sanctions have been imposed on members of Vladimir Nazarov’s family.

— Violations that are reflected in the inspection report are within the competence of officials - members of the artistic director’s family. On this basis, the payment of bonuses was stopped and only the salary was left. All other employees receive full salaries,” said the theater director.

From the results of the inspection it also follows that the scenery of the performances was not treated with fire retardants. “Thus, the safety of the spectators, 70% of whom are children, was not ensured,” the document says.

Vladimir Nazarov also called this information false.

“When Messrs. Kondrashova took charge of our theater, she collected all the documents in her office. When the commission from the Ministry of Culture came, they started looking for acts [of acceptance of completed fireproofing work] and simply couldn’t find them,” said the artistic director.

The Ministry of Culture called Vladimir Nazarov’s departure a PR move.

— To resign from his position, Vladimir Nazarov, as the artistic director of the theater, must send an application to the director of the theater Karina Kondrashova. The emotional letter presented is not a resignation letter and has no legal force from the point of view of labor law,” said Sofia Apfelbaum.

The theater is currently preparing for a major renovation, which will improve the acoustic parameters of the large hall. It is planned that from November 2014 it will host classical music concerts organized by the Moscow State Philharmonic. The further fate of the theater, as well as its new name, are currently unknown.

The State Musical Theater of National Art under the direction of Vladimir Nazarov was created on February 22, 2002 by order of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Mikhail Shvydkoy. The group's repertoire includes musicals, dramatic and children's performances, and concert programs. The theater is the successor to the Folk Music Ensemble, created by Vladimir Nazarov in 1982.
