The future star of the Lenkom Theater was born into a military family in Kazan.
From an early age, Elena dreamed of a stage, although not a theater stage, but a ballet one. However, the path to becoming a ballerina was forbidden for Shanina. Doctors diagnosed her with a heart defect, and with such a diagnosis there was no talk of any ballet. Then Elena set herself the goal of becoming a dramatic actress. Immediately after graduating from school, Shanina went from her native Kazan to Leningrad, where her grandmother lived. There she began knocking around the doors of theater universities, trying to understand what documents were needed, what poems or fables needed to be learned. “I was incredibly naive back then! - Shanina recalls. “It was completely clear from my confused face that I was from somewhere in the provinces.” Literally on the threshold of the first university, two young men approached Elena. They assured her that they were both famous directors. And then the story developed exactly as in the film “Come Tomorrow.” Taking advantage of the applicant's naivety, the young people mocked her as best they could. They asked me to read poetry, dance, and sing. Shanina had no idea that she was simply being played. It later turned out that the “famous young directors” were Mikhail Boyarsky and his friend. Ironically, Shanina’s close friend, actress Larisa Luppian, became Boyarsky’s wife. All participants today remember the student draw with a smile. Moreover, Elena became a close friend of the Boyarsky family.

But, sending him, the general, remembering Petya’s crazy act in the battle of Vyazemsky, where Petya, instead of going along the road to where he was sent, galloped in a chain under the fire of the French and shot there twice from his pistol, - sending him, the general namely, he forbade Petya to participate in any of Denisov’s actions. This made Petya blush and became confused when Denisov asked if he could stay. Sitting with the officers at the table and tearing the fatty, fragrant lamb with his hands, through which lard flowed, Petya was in an enthusiastic childish state of tender love for all people and, as a result, confidence in the same love of other people for himself. “So what do you think, Vasily Fedorovich,” he turned to Denisov, “is it okay that I stay with you for a day?” - And, without waiting for an answer, he answered himself: - After all, I was ordered to find out, well, I’ll find out... After graduating from the acting department of the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography in 1974, which Shanina entered without the patronage of famous or unknown directors, the young actress began to actively go to screen tests and theater auditions. Finally, it would seem, luck did smile. Andrei Konchalovsky himself approved her for his film “Romance of Lovers” . There was very little time left before filming began when Konchalovsky’s assistant called Shanina to his place for a serious conversation. It turned out that during the preparatory period Andrei Sergeevich became interested in Elena Koreneva . Moreover, he became interested in her not only as an actress, but also as a woman. From now on, he wanted to see only her in the frame, and Shanina was removed from the role. To somehow sweeten the pill, the assistant director promised Elena to help her audition for the newly appointed artistic director of the Lenkom Theater, Mark Zakharov. There was nothing to lose: the actress agreed. The acquaintance with Zakharov was organized by actor Alexander Zbruev. Mark Anatolyevich immediately liked the young actress. “She’s kind of nervous, she’s probably very talented,” he said then. So Shanina joined the theater troupe, which became her second home.

Shanina’s career at Lenkom was going very well. Main roles in almost all leading productions. Recognition from colleagues, critics and viewers. When she was offered the role of Conchita in the play “Juno and Avos,” Shanina agreed without any enthusiasm. “I didn’t expect anything good from this role,” Elena later admitted. “Moreover, it seemed to me then that there was nothing special to play there.” But it was this role that brought Shanina truly resounding success. Critics unanimously recognized her as the best performer of the role of Conchita.

The theater gave Shanina not only recognition and experience. At Lenkom she had an affair with Alexander Zbruev. Everyone knew that they were connected not only by a working relationship. The problem was that Zbruev was married. “When I realized that Sasha would not dare to leave his wife or leave his family, I let him go, which I do not regret,” says Elena. After parting, Shanina and Zbruev maintained good relations. For their common daughter, he became a visiting dad. The actress was officially married only once. In the seventies, she became the wife of actor Mikhail Polyak .
