Evgeny Popov and Olga Skabeeva, divorced or not

Childhood and adolescence

The future journalist was born on September 11, 1978 into an intelligent family from Vladivostok.
His father left the family early and went to Ukraine, where he lives to this day. Despite this, Zhenya never felt “fatherless” and regularly saw his dad in Odessa during the summer holidays. He studied well, already in his school years he became interested in journalism, and at the age of thirteen he first appeared on Primorskoe Radio as the host of the children's program “Sacvoyage.” Then he hosted a news show, and later moved to work on local television. His mother, a philologist by training, worked all her life as an editor of printed publications, so she encouraged her son’s passion in every possible way and was proud of his first successes in the journalistic field.

Evgeny Popov in his youth

By the time he graduated, Evgeniy had already clearly decided on the choice of his future profession and, having received a matriculation certificate, became a student at the Faculty of Journalism of DSU. While studying, he continued to work on local television, already as a staff correspondent for a news program.

Childhood and adolescence

Evgeniy was born in the city of Vladivostok on September 11, 1978. It is known that the mother of the future journalist worked as a biology teacher at the university. The boy's father left the family. After a divorce from his mother, he moved to Odessa.

Distance did not become an obstacle to communication between son and father, and they kept in touch. Zhenya visited him regularly. But his mother and grandmother raised the boy. As a child, Evgeniy dreamed of becoming a television journalist. While still a schoolboy, he worked part-time on local radio and hosted the “Sacvoyage” program.

By the time he graduated from high school, Evgeniy had already clearly defined his future profession. After receiving the certificate, he enters the journalism department at DSU. He combined his studies with work on local television as a staff correspondent for a news program.

TV career

After graduating from university, the young man was enrolled in the staff of the Far Eastern branch of Vesti and immediately went on his first business trip to North Korea, one of the most closed countries in the world.
Having brilliantly completed the editorial task, Popov returned to Vladivostok, and was soon transferred to Moscow, to the main office of Vesti. In 2003, he was appointed special correspondent for the Rossiya channel in Ukraine. During the Orange Revolution, Evgeniy Georgievich was at the very epicenter of the events taking place, reporting directly from the Kyiv Maidan. In 2005, Evgeniy returned to Moscow and became a political observer for the Vesti Nedeli program on VGTRK. Two years later, Popov went to the United States, where he headed the New York bureau of Vesti.

Evgeny Popov began his career in the Vesti program

In 2013, Evgeniy returned to Moscow, but did not stay in the capital for long, and again went to Ukraine, where the flames of another revolution were already flaring up. Just like nine years ago, Popov found himself in the very epicenter of events, only this time tires were blazing all around, Molotov cocktails were flying, and Maidan activists reacted quite aggressively to journalists from Russia.

Returning to Moscow, Popov became the host of his own program “News at 23:00”. At the same time, he made reports for Arkady Mamontov’s program “Special Correspondent”, and also discussed the plots of this program with invited guests in the television studio. During the absence of Dmitry Kiselev, Evgeny replaced him as the host of “Big Vesti” on Sundays, and also hosted the evening “Vesti” on weekdays, alternating with political commentator Andrei Kondrashov.

But Popov’s real finest hour came in 2020, when he and his wife Olga Skabeeva presented the new political show “60 Minutes” to a wide audience. Literally from the first releases, the program began to gather a huge audience in front of the screens.

It would seem, what might be of interest to another political program, of which there are already many on Russian television? However, viewers immediately appreciated the quality of the topics proposed for discussion (as a rule, these are the hottest news, often coming directly from teletypes), the clear discussion, condensed to the main details, and, undoubtedly, the personal charm and professionalism of the presenters, who manage to keep the situation under control and in an intelligent way, without stooping to insults, to pacify “hot heads.”

Olga Skabeeva and Evgeny Popov about the “60 Minutes” program In a short time, the program became one of the three best socio-political programs on Russian television, and since August 2020 it began to be broadcast twice a day. Popov and Skabeeva twice became laureates of the TEFI prize, and were also awarded the prestigious prize of the Union of Journalists of the Russian Federation.

about the author

Hello!

My name is Evgeniy Popov.

So that you understand who I am and what I do, I’ll tell you a short story about myself.

My close acquaintance with web technologies began in 2005 when, while studying at the Ural State Mining Academy, in one of the subjects I received the task of creating the most ordinary 2-page, static website.

Like all the rest of my classmates, I completed this task, but did not stop there, but continued to study this topic and gradually learned how to make more complex dynamic sites. Naturally, in the process of creating various sites, I had to study all sorts of related programs and technologies such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, etc.

A year after the creation of my first website, I opened the ruseller.com project and began to share the knowledge I had gained by creating various educational materials: articles, text lessons, video tutorials and e-books.

In 2006, I defended my diploma on the topic “Creating an online store.” After graduating from the institute, I began to devote even more time to the development of my website, and after some time it began to bring in the first small money through contextual advertising.

Then I became interested in the topic of the information business and, against the backdrop of this hobby, I opened a newsletter - a free monthly magazine “Online Business Tools”, in which I began to post educational materials related to the technical side of the information business.

Along the way, I opened my own offline business, which I quickly got on my feet and provided myself with a basic source of funds.

The magazine's readership gradually grew, and I began to receive many letters asking me to create a full-fledged training course on the main technical aspects of the information business. I took on this difficult undertaking and spent six months developing this course. As a result, in 2006, a DVD called “All Technical Moments of Online Business in Video Format” was released. The course included more than 140 video lessons, and its duration was about 36 hours.

Also around this time, I created the “Photoshop Master” project, which today is one of the three largest Adobe Photoshop portals on the RuNet.

In the process of creating my first DVD course, I gained good experience and new knowledge, which later turned into the course “How to Create an Information Bestseller on DVD or CD.” This course shows all the intricacies of creating and selling educational courses on disk. In the two years that have passed since its release, several dozen clients have already created their own information products and are now successfully selling them. (The second edition of this course was published in 2012.)

Then subscribers of my magazine, clients and just visitors began to terrorize me with questions about creating dynamic sites that are created using the server-side programming language PHP. Since I had experience in this matter, I decided to make a course on dynamic websites and in 2007 I released the course “PHP + MySQL for Beginners,” which was also liked by many, and today I have already received more than 100 reviews from practitioners of this course, who successfully mastered these technologies and created their own websites.

In 2008, I opened a support service website for my projects, where my assistants and I answer questions from potential clients, partners, etc.

In the same year of 2008, so-called content management systems began to come into fashion, which, with only basic knowledge of website building, allow you to create beautiful and functional websites. I did not ignore this trend, especially since in many situations, especially when time is short, creating a website using a CMS is the optimal solution. As a result, at the end of the year I released my 4th course, which was called “Joomla - Professional website in one day.”

2009 was the year of the blogosphere. Many successful people began to start their own blogs. Some knew how they were created, but others did not. It was for such people that in August 2009 I released the course “WordPress - Professional Blog in One Day.”

Then I was drawn to studying the JavaScript programming language and the jQuery framework. The result of this passion was the “JavaScript+jQuery for Beginners” course, which explains things that are quite difficult for beginners in simple language and with examples.

In 2011, I focused on developing the second edition of my best-selling book, “Every Tech Thing About Online Business in Video Format.” The course has been completely redesigned in accordance with modern trends in the information business.

I dedicated the year 2012 to launching a niche photography project called “Photo Monster”. Today, as part of this project, beginning photographers can receive more than 200 educational materials completely free of charge. We have also created a number of paid DVD courses for this project.

Also in 2012, I updated my course “How to Create an Information Bestseller on DVD or CD.” It has also been completely redesigned in accordance with modern trends of packaging any knowledge into training courses and then selling them via the Internet.

In addition, I am often called to speak at various conferences and online events. When there is time and opportunity to speak, I always agree. From 2007 to 2012 he performed in Moscow, Kyiv, and Prague. To stay on the crest of the wave, I constantly learn and develop both personally and professionally. I constantly study everything new that is related to Internet business and try to attend all significant events in our industry.

In 2012, I was able to learn from the legendary Western information businessmen - Yanick Silver and Mike Fillseim.

2013-2014 are devoted to further business development. Such projects as “Hosting Ninja”, “Life in Kaizen Style”, “Photo Monster” and others were created. In March 2014, I conducted my first live three-day seminar “Technical tricks of the information business.” Towards the end of the year, the “Evernote Master” and “Screencast Master” courses were released.

In the fall of 2014, he launched the course “Backup using the Evgeny Popov method”, as well as the scripts “ReDirector” and “Invisibility Generator”. In November, I was invited to speak at the largest conference on information business in Russia. There were more than a thousand people in the hall:

In 2015, I released two voluminous courses. First, a course on my time management system “Time Master” was released, and after it a course “Quick creation of online stores on the InSales platform”, and at the beginning of 2016 we launched the course “Voice processing for an information businessman.”

I have already passed this part of the path, and my movement continues.

In life, I am an ordinary person, I live in the center of Russia, I play a lot of sports (I am a current master of sports), I like to travel to different countries. So far I have been able to visit Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Norway, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Sweden, Turkey, Finland, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Spain. I stick to a live diet (plant foods without heat treatment).

That's all, thanks for reading. Visit my sites, because every day I work on creating new educational materials that will help you master the interesting science of website building and running your information business via the Internet.

Enjoy reading and putting into practice the materials from this and my other sites!

Best regards, Evgeniy Popov.

Personal life of Evgeny Popov

Evgeny's first wife was Anastasia Churkina, daughter of the Russian permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin. The young people met in New York during Popov’s American business trip and soon got married. True, their family relationship did not last long, and two years later the couple separated.

In 2012, there, in New York, Evgeniy met Olga Skabeeva, who flew to the States on a business trip. Before that, he had seen her reports on TV, and when he met her in person, he immediately fell in love. They lived in different countries for a whole year, communicating via Skype, and only in April 2013 were they able to officially legalize their relationship.

Evgeny Popov and his wife Olga Skabeeva

In January 2014, Olga gave birth to baby Zakhara. At that moment, Evgeniy was on a business trip in Kyiv and was reporting from the burning Maidan, but he was still able to escape for one day and pick up his beloved wife from the maternity hospital.

The son of Evgeny Popov and Olga Skabeeva is named Zakhar

It is interesting that all this time Skabeeva and Popov hid their relationship from their colleagues, and only in 2020, after the first broadcasts of the “60 Seconds” program, they admitted that they were spouses.

Life behind the scenes

Marriage with Olga Skabeeva is not the first in Evgeny Popov’s personal life - before her, he was married to Anastasia Churkina for some time. This union did not last long and there were no children left after it.

Evgeny Popov’s first wife is the daughter of our country’s former permanent representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin; they met when Evgeny was on a business trip to the States, where he worked as his own correspondent for VGTRK. Popov’s ex-wife is also a journalist, an employee of the Russia Today TV channel, who often visited the UN Mission building, where they most likely met.

Their romance ended with a wedding, but the couple’s family life did not last long, and they divorced even before Evgeniy’s official business trip ended. But the journalist’s heart did not remain free for long - while still working in New York, he met Russian journalist Olga Skabeeva, who came there to film several reports.

A short meeting turned Evgeny Popov’s personal life upside down, and after Olga left for her homeland, they continued to communicate, and their long-distance romance lasted a whole year. Only after returning home, Evgeny Popov proposed to Skabeeva, and they officially became husband and wife.

They had to postpone the wedding date several times - at that time Olga worked in Brussels, and Evgeniy worked in the USA, so they decided to get married in New York. The married couple does not like to talk about their personal life, trying to keep its details away from prying eyes, and even Skabeeva and Popov’s colleagues learned that they got married only a few years later.

Journalist's family

It is known that in the fourteenth year the first and so far only of Evgeniy’s children, son Zakhar, was born. Popov could not be with his wife then - he worked in Ukraine, where at that time there were popular unrest on the Maidan.

Nevertheless, he did everything possible to come to Moscow and take his wife and newborn baby home from the maternity hospital, and fly back to Kyiv in the evening.

Now Zakhar is five years old, and he requires enormous attention from his parents, who devote all their free time to their son.

“We see Zakhar every day - morning and evening. We spend the whole weekend with him. He rightly demands our attention. We discuss his problems, we even discuss our problems…” the couple say about their son.

Despite the fact that work takes up most of the lives of famous TV presenters, family is always a priority for them.

In the photo: Olga Skabeeva with her son

They are together around the clock, their professional life is very busy, perhaps that is why there is simply no time for everyday quarrels, and if small disputes arise, they relate only to professional activities.

Evgeny Popov now

In 2020, many significant events took place, which Evgeny Popov covered as part of the “60 Minutes” program. He was at the epicenter of the doping scandal at the Olympics in Korea, reported from the World Cup, was present at the meeting between Putin and Trump in Helsinki, and was the first to report from Kerch, where Ukrainian ships were delivered that violated the Russian border in the Black Sea. Evgeniy Popov kicked out the expert for the name Afanasy Evgeniy - the author of many high-profile documentaries, including “Telemaidan”, “Blockade. Slavyansk", "Kiev Sich", "Media Literacy". For objective coverage of Ukrainian events and the war in Donbass, as well as for supporting the annexation of Crimea to Russia, Popov was banned from entering Ukraine.

Personal life

While on a business trip in New York, Evgeny Popov met Anastasia Churkina, who worked in the USA on the Russia Today TV channel. By the way, Anastasia is the daughter of Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin. The young people started dating and then got married. True, this marriage did not last very long, and in 2012, official divorce proceedings took place.

Soon after breaking up with his first wife, Popov returned to Moscow, where he met his second wife. She became VGTRK correspondent Olga Skabeeva. Now Evgeniy and Olga not only live as one family and raise their common son Zakhar, born in 2014, but also host a joint television project “60 Minutes”.

Olga Skabeeva and Evgeny Popov

However, despite the fact that both spouses are public people, the personal life of TV presenters is kept under seven seals. The press did not publish a single note about the wedding of Popov and Skabeeva, forcing fellow journalists to wonder whether the wedding took place at all, and if so, when and how.

Also, the spouses do not answer questions from work acquaintances on this topic, do not tell their plans for life together in interviews, do not publicly discuss whether they are planning more children, and do not share photographs of their growing son on the Internet.

Evgeny Popov with his wife

The family leads such a secretive and non-public life that journalists from publications devoted to the biographies of popular people even suggested that if Popov and Skabeeva had not conducted a joint television project, fans of the TV presenters’ work would never have known about their relationship and marriage.

TV viewers note that watching a married couple work is incredibly pleasant. TV presenters never interrupt each other and are on the same wavelength, always ready to continue and develop the thoughts of the co-host. But at the same time, fans of the program noticed an unusual fact: during the program, the spouses try not to look into each other’s eyes. As the couple's colleagues suggest, this is being done so as not to confuse TV viewers with hints about their relationship.

Career and television projects

The year 2003 came, he was appointed to the position of special correspondent on the territory of Ukraine. From that moment on, his activities moved to his brotherly country. It was at this time that alarming events took place. The Orange Revolution is in full swing. The young journalist observed the ongoing conflicts at the very center of events and conducted open reports with direct participants in the events. After two years of vigorous activity, he was returned to Moscow, where he was appointed host of the “News of the Week” program on the Rossiya TV channel.

In 2007, our TV presenter went on a business trip again, but this time he went to conquer America. He is assigned as a correspondent for the New York branch. In all subsequent years, he spends a lot of time outside his homeland, obtaining information material from the United States. In 2013, he was again transferred to Ukraine, just during the second Maidan, popular unrest and the overthrow of the current government.

This time, burning tires and Molotov cocktails were flying around the film crew. Being in such an environment was life-threatening, especially for representatives from the Russian side.

Fortunately, Popov returns to his homeland unharmed and heads his own project on the Russia TV channel “Vesti at 23.00”. During this period, he was literally torn between different television programs, helped create special investigations for Arkady Mamontov and periodically replaced Dmitry Kiselev on the final program “News of the Week.”
