Kate is a representative of an acting dynasty. Both of her parents are quite famous actors. But they mostly played in the theater, where Winslet spent virtually all of her childhood. The director was not mistaken. The girl performed this dramatic work simply brilliantly. The film turned out to be successful and received several international awards, including at the prestigious Venice Film Festival. Kate herself was awarded the title of best actress of the year and called a real discovery.
It is not surprising that a new proposal immediately followed. This time Kate played one of the princesses in the historical adventure film based on Mark Twain's novel about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Kate became a real world-famous star after she played the main role in James Cameron's film Titanic. This is a film about one of the worst disasters of the 20th century, which claimed the lives of thousands of people - the death of the liner, which the designers declared unsinkable.
Since, according to the director’s idea, the film was supposed to convey the tragic events as realistically as possible, huge amounts of money were spent on creating a model of the ship and the entire internal environment. Filming took place in a specially built studio, which had a huge swimming pool. The budget was increased several times, and by the time filming was completed it exceeded $200 million.
It is not surprising that the director demanded maximum dedication from the actors involved in the film. Moreover, the film had two storylines - the sinking of a ship and a passionate romance that broke out between a rich aristocrat and a street artist who saved her life, who won his ticket to travel from card sharps.
Kate was not approved for the main role immediately, but after many auditions. Her main competitor was the no less charming Gwyneth Paltrow. But she was a little older, and she lacked artistry. Moreover, Cameron himself imagined a love story in the best Shakespearean traditions, and Kate’s portfolio already included the quite successful role of Ophelia.
Kate's on-screen partner was the young Leonardo DiCaprio, for whom this film was simply a lightning-fast rise to the acting Olympus. The love story between them was played so masterfully that the film was nominated for the main film prize in 14 categories, and eventually received 11 Oscar statuettes. What a disappointment it was for Kate that this time her luck ran out.
However, from that moment on, her fees increased sharply, and she could now choose her own roles. Kate met her first love while still an unknown actress on the set of the series. He turned out to be 28-year-old Stephen Tredre, with whom 16-year-old Kate simply fell in love without looking back. The partnership grew into a long-term relationship, and they spent four whole years together.
