Anatoly Zhuravlev - filmography

This wonderful actor played quite a lot of roles. Anatoly Zhuravlev received his first role in 1974 in the film “Rain.” Zhuravlev’s popularity came only 21 years later, after playing the role of paratrooper Kolya in the film “Everything will be fine.” In the story, Kolya returns home after serving in the army, where his bride is waiting for him - the daughter of his mother’s new husband. And everything was fine with them. They even began to prepare for the wedding until the famous mathematician Pyotr Smirnov came to their town.

In 1997, he starred in the film “Brother” by Alexei Balabanov. That same year he had a small role in the film “Poor Sasha.” After the release of the television series “Bourgeois’s Birthday,” Anatoly Zhuravlev drowned in the rays of real fame. In the series he played a bodyguard.

The director of the film noticed a versatile personality in Anatolia. He also offered to give the main character’s guard a button accordion, after which everyone discovered that the actor knew how to handle it. The towel dance is also his invention. Anatoly Zhuravlev is an actor by vocation. On the set he was the most responsible. I memorized every line thoroughly. To work in the series, Anatoly had to gain a few extra pounds. His hero is partial to Snickers. Therefore, the actor had to eat this delicacy every day. After playing the role of a bodyguard, he received job offers. This is how actor Anatoly Zhuravlev became famous. His filmography began to increase at an exponential rate.

Anatoly Zhuravlev: I love frosty winter, Russian bathhouse and goat's milk!

The stunning lyrical comedy “Love and Doves” was directed by Vladimir Menshov in 1984. Then the success of the film turned out to be phenomenal, and even now viewers enjoy watching the love story of Vasya and Nadya. And in 2020, director Vasily Mishchenko made his dream come true: he staged “Love and Doves” - a performance thoroughly imbued with tenderness and warmth. The main role in the theatrical production was played by Anatoly Zhuravlev, the role of Nadya was played by Anna Yakunina.

The performance is young, it is only a few months old. And at the end of October the artists will present this lyrical story to the people of Tula. We contacted Anatoly Zhuravlev by phone and talked to him about the play, his best roles and real male hobbies.

— Anatoly, share your opinion on the film “Love and Doves.” – It’s the most wonderful! This is one of the best films of Russian cinematography, a wonderful lyrical comedy. “Love and Doves” can be watched endlessly. We all love both the heroes of the comedy and the actors who played them. This is certainly an outstanding picture.

— How long have you been performing the play? – The performance is only three months old. You know, it’s very exciting and responsible to play the role of the main character after the brilliant Alexander Mikhailov (laughs). To be honest, I really like my Vasya; in the theater this is one of my best roles.

Alexander Mikhailov as Vasya. “Love and Doves”, director Vladimir Menshov.

— Who are your partners on stage? – Nadya is played by the wonderful actress Anna Yakunina, Raisa Zakharovna is played by Olya Prokofieva. Also on stage are Mikhail Zhigalov and Olga Khokhlova. I can promise the people of Tula that the performance will be very emotional! We will also try to make it fun.

– By education you are a teacher of Russian language and literature. How did you end up becoming an actor? – After school, I entered the theater institute, but failed the exams. I was terribly upset. I decided that I lacked the reading and erudition necessary for an actor. Therefore, I decided to enter a pedagogical institute, and only then, with my literary baggage, again try to storm the theater institute. And I turned out to be right - my philological education helped me, and the second time I entered the Leningrad Theater Institute.

— Anatoly, do you have any new film projects now? - Not yet.

— You have dozens of roles played behind you. Do you have a dream role? – Of course, every actor has such a role. But I won’t talk about it, I’ll just say that it’s in the genre of drama.

Anatoly Zhuravlev as Baloo. “Zhmurki”, director Alexey Balabanov.

— The film “Zhmurki”, in which you played one of the main roles, is already more than 10 years old, and its ratings are not falling. How was it for you to work with Alexei Balabanov and was it easy to play the bandit Balu? – Working with Alexey was wonderful and exciting, as always happens with talented people. The film “Zhmurki” is a great happiness for me. Filming took place in Nizhny Novgorod, this month remained with me, and, I think, with the entire film crew, in my memory for the rest of my life.

The character I portray there is a typical young man from the 90s, there were a lot of such people. I went through this myself...

There is a phrase: “We survived the 90s.” Yes, many have gone through this and encountered such characters. I knew this guy, so it wasn’t difficult to show Balu. I accepted him and loved him. I didn’t have any characters at all that I didn’t accept and didn’t justify for myself.

Anatoly Zhuravlev as paratrooper Kolya, pictured with Olga Ponizova. “Everything will be fine!”, director Dmitry Astrakhan.

— You worked with wonderful directors. Who do you remember meeting and working with most? – With Dmitry Astrakhan in the film “Everything will be fine!”, with Alexey Balabanov in the films “Brother” and “Zhmurki”, with Vyacheslav Nikiforov in the series “Executioner” - a very interesting director.

– You were born in the Urals. What from your Ural childhood is still with you in life? – For example, I like winter. Nice, snowy, frosty. Minus 30 degrees is very comfortable for me. I like a real Russian bathhouse, with a steam room and brooms. Sometimes I like to drink goat's milk. I like a lot...

– What other hobbies do you enjoy in your free time? – Started swimming and running. I run in Central Park in Moscow, in Gorky Park, 3-5 kilometers easily. By the way, many people are running now. But I don’t like hunting and fishing.

I went fishing a couple of times, and I realized it wasn’t my thing. And I don’t accept hunting at all. Moreover, I don’t understand people who boast about their trophies.

Recently I was in a cafe, and there was a photo at the entrance - the owner of the cafe with a gun, with a wide smile on his face, bending over a dead deer. I believe that there is no special merit in this, much less joy. I can’t understand why people are so proud of this? I think many people will not understand me now and will say that I am wrong. But everyone has their own opinion.

– Do you believe in horoscopes? – I was born in the year of the Dragon, and all the best things happened during these years. At the age of 12, my grandmother took me in (it was happiness!), and at 24, I entered the theater institute, which I had long dreamed of. At the age of 36 I got my own Moscow apartment...

– Anatoly, share your plans for the New Year. – I love celebrating this holiday in Russia; I never fly anywhere for the New Year. For the last 30 years I have been either in St. Petersburg or Moscow. These are my two hometowns.

– What dish is always on the holiday table in your family? - Herring under a Fur Coat!

In 2000, a star role awaited Zhuravlev. In the series “Bourgeois's Birthday,” Anatoly got one of the key characters – Bourgeois’s guard, Tolstoy. The shots where Tolstoy plays the button accordion and dances a striptease with a towel are the ideas of Anatoly Zhuravlev, gladly supported by both the director and the entire film crew. After the release of the series, the Ural artist woke up famous.

As it soon turned out, the first education Zhuravlev received—philological—was useful to the artist. Anatoly wrote a play about the life of the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky, which told about his last years and difficult relationship with the poet’s beloved Lilya Brik. Anatoly Zhuravlev admitted that he dreams of a film adaptation of the play, as well as of playing Mayakovsky.

The actor recognized his son, but this did not affect their relationship. Father and son began to communicate quite recently. He even introduced him to his current wife. Anton has a four-year-old child. One day an interesting incident occurred between Zhuravlev and his son. Anatoly called his son and asked him to install plastic double-glazed windows in his grandmother’s apartment. When Anton said that he did not have money for this, Zhuravlev was indignant. Anatoly Zhuravlev has known director Dmitry Astrakhan for a long time. Even in his third year, he invited him to play Ivan the Fool in the play “The Little Humpbacked Horse.” It was then that he mastered the skills of playing the button accordion. But the performance never took place. As Anatoly Zhuravlev said, the actor left the theater along with Astrakhan. Dmitry decided to make the film “Everything will be fine.” Naturally, this took some time. At first, no one objected that Dmitry and Anatoly did not appear in the theater, but when they returned, they were bombarded with reproaches. At first, Zhuravlev was not accepted into other theaters. Then he took a ticket to Moscow and on the day of arrival he turned to Oleg Tabakov. He immediately hired him.
